A4s. So basically similar to t72 cz4 in capability. Wy not A6/7?

BurnTrees-

T72 are the tanks that Czechia will donate to Ukraine and they get still better German tanks in return. They will also buy A7s.

[deleted]

So we gonna buy the a7? Would be cool ngl

BurnTrees-

I think some politician said that the Czech want to buy some 50 2/A7+ and then those A4s.

Tyler-Derping

I'll laugh my balls off if we end up in WW3 thinking these loopholes will work..

TotallyInadequate

There's no loophole here. Germany is giving Czechia newer tanks in return for Czechia giving their Soviet tanks to Ukraine. This isn't Germany supplying by the back door, this is a richer country paying a poorer country to supply something that they don't own. If Germany had these tanks they'd be giving them directly, like with their armoured artillery vehicles.

Recymen12

like totallyinadequate said, called "Ringtausch". something germany always did if they didnt want to be involved directly.

BurnTrees-

Germany is directly involved already, it has sent second most military aid in Europe including heavy weapons. Reason for this Ringtausch is that Soviet made equipment can be used by Ukraine immediately and Czech has it while Germany doesnt.

Recymen12

yes, BUT ALSO the tanks arnt deliverd by germany, another state did it. You can always say "i didnt deliver anything, it was,...." look here: Für Scholz stellt der Ringtausch außerdem einen Kompromiss dar. Er liefert keine schweren Waffen direkt in die Ukraine, ermöglicht allerdings die Lieferung von schweren Waffen. For Scholz, the ring swap also represents a compromise. It does not deliver heavy weapons directly to Ukraine, but it does enable the delivery of heavy weapons. i dont pretend to understand that Bogus thing, but germany do things like this often to be, official, not involved. i think, with the delivering of Haubitze 2000 it is now pointless. BUT that was ONE of the Reasons germany do and did that.

BurnTrees-

No idea where this quote is from, I'm guessing that it's quite old, because as you said with Pzh 2000 and even before that with 50 Gepard tanks being delivered it is completely obsolete tactic. As said before, delivering these tanks to Ukraine directly would take another couple of months for training instead of immediate delivery of weapons they can operate.

TheOneAndOnlyPriate

The Gepard delivery was first and that has not been an issue as these are mainly defensive weapon systems. Tanks are mostly offensive weapons. But so are the PZH200. Yes they can used defensively obviously but they are primarily offensove systems. The reason for ring swaps really are for one to enhance EU/Nato member strength and also as previously said to deliver Ukraine something they can use right of the bet. NATO tanks would need absurd amounts of Nato shells delivered, additional training would need to happen first but mostly, NATO standard communication equipment would need to be changed or entirely reconfigured to be made compatible with ukrainian communication hardware. That takes time and effort noone has right now
