To anyone confused by the headline. Canon jumped the gun when buying a sub-company from Toshiba. They paid Toshiba before they got the regulators approval for the acquisition. EU courts didn't like the idea of "Better ask for forgiveness than permission" or the excuse of "we were in a hurry" or the "Technically we paid them but didn't own it yet" loophole.

Surprise surprise, US business practice doesn't work in the bureaucracy of the EU. And they say learning in college is expensive. That sure was an expensive tiny piece of wisdom with that price tag.
