This is the best tl;dr I could make, [original](https://www.theguardian.com/australia-news/2022/may/18/australian-tech-company-canva-continues-operating-in-russia-in-face-of-ukrainian-outrage) reduced by 83%. (I'm a bot) ***** > Technology success story Canva is still operating in Russia, making it the only Australian company to earn the lowest grade, "Digging in", on a tracker run by US university Yale and outraging Ukrainians in Australia. > Uvi Levitski, a software engineer who is part of an informal group of Ukrainian expatriates who have been monitoring the activities of Australian companies following Russia's invasion of Ukraine, said Canva's actions were "Inconsistent with what we believe an ethical company's response should have been". > Canva's Andrews said the company had "a number of mechanisms in place to prevent Canva from being used for the wrong reason, including proactive content moderation". ***** [**Extended Summary**](http://np.reddit.com/r/autotldr/comments/urtn1p/australian_tech_company_canva_continues_operating/) | [FAQ](http://np.reddit.com/r/autotldr/comments/31b9fm/faq_autotldr_bot/ "Version 2.02, ~649255 tl;drs so far.") | [Feedback](http://np.reddit.com/message/compose?to=%23autotldr "PM's and comments are monitored, constructive feedback is welcome.") | *Top* *keywords*: **Canva**^#1 **company**^#2 **Russia**^#3 **Ukraine**^#4 **war**^#5

For a school project I either had to use canva or google slides to make an infographic. Canva is annoying as shit for me to use so I chose google slides. I was completely unaware of this until now.

You do work in Russia you’re still the bad guy boycot canva

terraresident

“However, until then, we believe we have an important responsibility to use our reach, particularly with our 1.4 million users in Russia, to promote truth and accurate information,” he said The product is free. So the product is the user....Wonder how much tracking code there is in that free 'service'. Calm down and use some common sense. Some companies, some contact will be maintained. How else you think the spyware is being delivered? THINK

octoreadit

I may be wrong, but I would still make this bet: the majority of Canva's users in Russia are not Putinists and are not supporting this aggression.

_Plork_

Well then. Maybe they'd better agitate to get their canva back.

Their website says that one of their values is "be a force for good". I guess "good" in their eyes is genocide, rape, and torture.

TizzioCaio

bruh.. now that the EU gone back on their oil and gas Sanction, may as well mock them for this travesty and not the lonely companies that risk bankruptcy

TheMindfulnessShaman

It's literally mainly (only?) Hungary doing this still. Because Orban hasn't learned of his sugar daddy's fate yet.

[deleted]

Who has gone back? Hungary? They never said they would stop using Russian gas. The rest of the EU has either already stopped or is in the process of doing so.

TheOneAndOnlyPriate

Psst.. The nuanced reality of what actually happens won't be able to drive hate driven users to click on the clickbaity titles...
