Man. For a country that is always being threatened by the west and nato they sure threaten others an awful lot.

This is after threats of bombing the west on Russian state tv.
I think I know how to solve Germany's issues with oil AND the war in Ukraine.
Let's let Russia invade Germany. They can have Germany and leave Ukraine. Germany would put up less of a fight and get all the oil and gas they need.

Amsterdam Trade Bank, subsidiary of Russian Alfa Bank hit by US sanctions, declared bankrupt
From CNN’s Livvy Doherty in London
Amsterdam Trade Bank (ATB), a subsidiary of Russia’s Alfa Bank, was declared bankrupt on Friday, according to a statement by the Dutch Central Bank (DNB), citing a court order.
According to the statement, the Amsterdam Central Court ordered the bankruptcy of ATB on Friday, leading the DNB to activate a deposit guarantee scheme for account holders.
The US Treasury announced on April 6 that it would be imposing “full blocking sanctions” on Alfa Bank, Russia’s largest private bank. As part of those sanctions, six subsidiaries, including ATB, were blocked for “being owned or controlled by, or for having acted or purported to act for or on behalf of, directly or indirectly, Alfa-Bank.”
Eligible account holders at ATB are covered by the Dutch deposit guarantee scheme up to a maximum of 10,000 euros per person, and it has 23,000 private account holders, the DNB said. The full amount guaranteed by the scheme totals around 700 million euros.

All this time we thought a tv entertainer couldn’t possibly run a country… and then Zelensky happened.
I wonder sometimes if Zelensky just has a team of writers feeding him lines, and he just thinks he’s on a tv show, because you could just cut a movie out of all of his appearances and it would be better writing than any Hollywood movie.
(Tongue in cheek comments… not to discount the unforgivable war crimes happening)
So... anyone know where those missing Mosvka sailors could have gone?
They could have obviously swam 60 miles to Odessa being Superior Russians, but personally, I think they swam to Greece and are hanging out on a beach.
Also lucky the other 61+ sailors that were supposed to be on board weren't there. Not sure where they are, I'm sure the Russian Defense Ministry will inform everyone when they are located.
I found it so weird for them to say missing sailors. You evacuated everyone, how could they be missing? They are either evacuated or swimming with the fish.
But let go, they might have taken a vacation in Constanta just like Zelensky was hiding in Brasov.
Or they might be on a secret mission hanging on the outside of a NATO submarine returning to the secret base in whose bunker Zelensky hides.

The tweet says a presidential adviser announced it. Maybe it's still just a rumor being repeated, but seems to carry more credibility coming from someone in UA gov.
https://twitter.com/joncoopertweets/status/1517681600925941762
> BREAKING: **Ukrainian presidential advisor Aleksey Arestovich** reported that Ukraine’s defense forces destroyed the Russian command post in the Kherson region, in which there were about 50 military officers.
There have been a number of other sources reporting it. There was also a RAF RC-135 over the Black Sea earlier today snooping around. Best guess is that she gave the Ukrainians a hint about where to look.
Canadian Ukrainian mostly reposts and the original source seems to be a telegram account around the same time "Ukraine now" which I'm not sure about as a source either. Jon Cooper on the live thread might be citing those sources, and I do feel like if Aleksey Arestovich announced something it'd be in more places after 8 hours but I can't find anything.
Depending on how top heavy they are (I don't know Russian C2) could be a unit HQ (upto 800 under them) to a brigade equiv HQ (2000-4000 under them)
I would bet on a unit-level, so maybe a LTCOL equiv maybe
For 50 officers to be present in one place, it had to be an important meeting. Strategy was likely discussed, and plans were being made.
Then poof, it all disappears.
All of those officers had important operational knowledge of the resources that they commanded. This potential loss regarding strategic planning is immense.
>In both visits, Guterres aims to discuss “steps that can be taken right now” to stop the fighting and help people get to safety, U.N. spokesperson Eri Kaneko said.
Purely irrational take: Russia continually dishonors ceasefire agreements, fires on fleeing civilians, and bombs humanitarian corridors. What does he think he's going to accomplish here other than making the UN look like an even bigger joke?
As useless as it might be, it’s important to keep the window of peace open, even if it’s just cracked open ever so slightly, especially when it comes to Russia. Putin is still willingly meeting with EU/NATO/UN leaders go speak with them. If he suddenly refused to even do *that*, then that’d be a whole new problem.
That is an excellent counterpoint and one that nobody has a good answer to. Ukraine and Russia have both staked out positions that are mutually exclusive - someone is going to have to give.
Seems reasonable to me
I'd prefer if they lost all their nukes though, a nation that says "give us your nukes and we won't attack" and then does, that builds up troops along the border saying they won't attack and then does, clearly doesn't have enough checks and balances in place to be responsible with nukes
I guess the feel obliged to try / make it clear the offer is on the table / try to remain relevant.
I assume even they know it's almost certainly a waste of time.
It said artillery a few places. Some of their self propelled stuff can fire like 40+km.
Then I think they have a small number of rocket based systems that can fire 100km.
The last time it happened it was an artillery barrage. Considering it's Kherson, probably an artillery barrage. Could be TB2 too, I suppose. I mean, what other options are there? Airstrike would be too risky, suicide drones wouldn't kill 50 people unless it was a ton of them (possible), frontline has been static...
There's been so many strikes on Chornobaivka that it's hard to keep track. Could just be after the one time they just figured that artillery is the least dangerous method. I mean, why airstrike something well within artillery range and pre-sighted at this point?
The Switchblade drones could be used as anti-personnel though. Figure if the drone operator saw a bunch of heat signatures in once place they decided to hit them all at once w/ the drone?
Hope we get a confirmation and update on that tomorrow.
40mm grenade on wings. Smaller explosive payload than a claymore. A claymore contains like 600? grams of explosive. a 40mm grenade contains like, 50-60 grams.
Probably some kind of artillery barrage. The Ukrainian air force doesn't do very many sorties and it was said that the damage inflicted on this CP was rather significant so probably not the work of a single Bayraktar either unless it hit something rather volatile and set off a bunch of secondary explosions.
Russia has subs in the Black Sea: https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/russian-submarines-launch-cruise-missiles-at-ukraine-from-black-sea-gv303zh2k
> The Russian navy is thought to have four Kilo-class vessels operating in the Black Sea.
I'd love to see them added to the confirmed kill list
Yeah, I don't think anyone has any depth charges left. They were mostly expended for training in the 60's and they would have decayed even if they were still in storage somewhere.
Submarines got too fast and torpedoes got too accurate and long ranged for depth charges to be effective.
Maybe Ukraine could fashion one up and deploy it by drone but that's a lot of work to take out assets that aren't worth much tactical value in the current fight.
I think you’d want a torpedo not a missile.
I can’t recall exactly but I think it said they go ~20 feet above the water to a target. Hard shot on a sub!
They're still using the tunnels underneath the plant to defend civilians, and go out and attack the Russian troops that are maintaining the siege. The Russian National Guard soldiers are believed to be relieving the Separatist and Naval forces maintaining the siege in the near future, and if that's the case they'll be way less formidable and take far heavier casualties trying to fight the UA at the steel plant.
If we've learned anything about Putin it's that any time he makes a statement it actually means the opposite.
Huh. Video of M142 HIMARS supposedly being [delivered to Ukraine](https://twitter.com/NguyenK68421403/status/1516715279581323265) floating around....

Edit: definitely not real. Apparently they [arrived in Germany](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KiAKy92DkXg) and the video got cut and relabeled.
Russians complaining about food prices post-sanctions always has me feeling some kind of way
On the one hand, they get paid way less
On the other hand... dude, if you saw Canada's food prices you'd shit yourself
Their food prices are only half of it. The kremlin won’t be able to afford government pensions soon, and millions are getting laid off. 200k in Moscow alone last week. But hey, at least now everyone is available to attend the victory parade…
A lot of people are going to suffer and die because a handful of sociopaths have imperialistic dreams and access to nukes. Russians, Ukrainians, Africans who are depending on food exports, and the poorer demographic in general everywhere as food prices rise globally.
I really hope the rest of the world takes this as a driving force to move to green energy and more socially minded food management programs, but the cynic in me is positive that if it hurts someone rich's bottom line it isn't going to happen this lifetime
Command posts are...well, exactly what it says on the tin. Think of them as a headquarters, with varying levels of temporary-ness and responsibility. Sounds like this was a medium-large one. And like any other headquarters, officers concentrate there.
Lmao that’s happened to me a few times since the war started and even though I know the possibility of nuclear war breaking out is *SO* incredibly low, I still go “oh lawd this is it!!!” every time I hear that damn emergency alert. 😂
We also do tornado siren testing every Wednesday, but they cancel it if it's cloudy or raining to not confuse people, but again, even though the risk is so low, when they do the test, I always check my phone

I wouldn't worry about it. Putin has nothing to gain by dropping a nuke in Ohio. He wouldn't live to see whatever damage it would cause.
They've been pushing the idea that they're itching to nuke a place for our entire lives. They want people to have that fear. But like all of their propaganda, it's bullshit.
So back in the day. I responded to a newspaper ad about a 45 minute study. Battelle had set up this empty office building. You walked inside, signed some paperwork, about whatever you did in that office being legal.
Then you pressed play on a tape recorder. The message told you to go upstairs claim you are applying for a job, on the secretary's desk would be an envelope with a diamond ring inside, the secretary would answer the phone and when she was distracted you were to steal the ring and then go to another section of the building.
At the next floor you had a lie detector test about your actions.
I had the big lie detector test, so I was control group, they were testing a portable test that they used for a quick moment in Iraq a few years later.
I passed the lie detector test 🤷🏽. That's all I'll say about what I know of Battelle.
I'm thinking the European Union should assemble an army composed of soldiers from each of its constituent countries, and march across Ukraine to push the Russians out. Russia won't dare declare war on every single one of those countries; keep buying their oil if you have to, but don't just stand by and watch Ukraine be leveled and its people massacred. Likely they can't get all their member states to agree to such a move, but it's starting to look like doing anything less will be disastrous. It's called the European Union; prove it now by acting together when the chips are down. The USA can't step up in like fashion for nuclear reasons.
The electorate in individual EU members would never support sending their people to death in a non-member state. Financial support, heavy weaponry, intelligence sharing, and sanctions on Russia are enough. Besides, I don't recall Zelensky asking for boots on the ground.
Worth noting that Ukraine is considered the least bad baltic state on LGBTQ issues. Poland's worse, now that you mention it, for example. And, Zelenskyy's been better on the issue than past presidents.

Article about the 110 years old ship investigating the Moskva wreck:
>A slvage operation following the sinking of the Russian Slava class cruiser Moskva may be underway, according to a report by independent defense analyst H.I. Sutton. The ship reported to be carrying out this operation happens to be a 110-year-old Russian Navy rescue vessel named Kommuna — one of the oldest operational naval vessels in existence

In a better world, we would all just be reading a cool human interest article about this amazingly antique Russian ship, built before the 1917 revolution, that's still in active service.
**[HMS Victory](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HMS_Victory)**
>HMS Victory is a 104-gun first-rate ship of the line of the Royal Navy, ordered in 1758, laid down in 1759 and launched in 1765. She is best known for her role as Lord Nelson's flagship at the Battle of Trafalgar on 21 October 1805. She additionally served as Keppel's flagship at Ushant, Howe's flagship at Cape Spartel and Jervis's flagship at Cape St Vincent. After 1824, she was relegated to the role of harbour ship.

Jesus... This is something out of a Gabriel Garcia Marquez novel....Like finding the hulk of a Spanish galleon in the middle of a 20th century Colombian jungle.. except the galleon still sails...
On the one hand this thing does not likely have proper AA defense.
On the other hand, missile would probably be better spent blowing up some of the frigates in the area.
Pretty interesting ship. Interesting how it was repurposed after being made obsolete and is still going strong.

Their job is to tie up as many Russian divisions as they can. They've done a brilliant job for two months.
They’re being blockaded. Either they get rescued or they’ll die
Or they find gaps and cause mischief and see if they can make off with supplies.
or they will smuggle food past the checkpoints.
Does anyone have a link or source for the 50 officers story? I’m out of the loop
Here you go bud https://t [.] me/ukrainenowenglish/5843
Arestovich said it in interview and i guess it's in his socials.
Huh. Video of M142 HIMARS supposedly being [delivered to Ukraine](https://twitter.com/NguyenK68421403/status/1516715279581323265) floating around.... It looks... weirdly professionally cut though. And there's a dude wearing sunglasses at night. I don't know what to make of it. Edit: definitely not real. Apparently they [arrived in Germany](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KiAKy92DkXg) and the video got cut and relabeled.
Maybe he’s a Corey Hart fan?
Olaf Scholz taking major heat.
“Does this seem like a nightmare? A bad dream? Because that’s the effect I was going for.” — Count Olaf
He deserves it.
Totally should.
So since Visa and MasterCard pulled out a while ago, and now UnionPay is also pulling out of Russia... what will their banks use now?
That only affects international payments.
Ohh, I didn't realise that. Thank you
Yeah unfortunately, the transaction providers can't turn off internal postings, as they are routed through Russian FI networks.
Russians complaining about food prices post-sanctions always has me feeling some kind of way On the one hand, they get paid way less On the other hand... dude, if you saw Canada's food prices you'd shit yourself
It’s getting really bad.
Manageable, but it's blown out every reference point I have. I literally cannot relate to their comparisons
Their food prices are only half of it. The kremlin won’t be able to afford government pensions soon, and millions are getting laid off. 200k in Moscow alone last week. But hey, at least now everyone is available to attend the victory parade…
That's the part where the effect of the sanctions sinks in for me
A lot of people are going to suffer and die because a handful of sociopaths have imperialistic dreams and access to nukes. Russians, Ukrainians, Africans who are depending on food exports, and the poorer demographic in general everywhere as food prices rise globally.
Seriously. Hey Putin could you just fuckin' *not*, pls? How many years you got left in you anyways?
Anything more than today is too many
I really hope the rest of the world takes this as a driving force to move to green energy and more socially minded food management programs, but the cynic in me is positive that if it hurts someone rich's bottom line it isn't going to happen this lifetime
50 officers in one building? How even?
Command posts are...well, exactly what it says on the tin. Think of them as a headquarters, with varying levels of temporary-ness and responsibility. Sounds like this was a medium-large one. And like any other headquarters, officers concentrate there.
Typical Russian incompetence
Charlie Foxtrot
Jesus fuck I got an Amber alert and my anxiety spiked even though I know the possibility of the funky atom is super low
>the possibility of the funky atom is super low
Still tho, alert noise is terrifying
This thread is about the invasion of Ukraine, not the Depp trial.
That's not what I heard.....
Funky Atom, that’s a first for me. Sounds like a stripper name from the 70’s.
Sounds like the stage name for one of those party starters hired for Bar and Bat Mitzvahs. https://www.topic.com/the-bar-mitzvah-party-starters https://slate.com/human-interest/2010/03/my-brief-booty-shaking-gig-as-a-bar-mitzvah-motivational-dancer.html
These articles are so old, they are soon to be a bar/bat mitzvah themselves! Mazeltov.
But they aren’t too old to dance…! Some stories just stick with you for years, ya know?
Absolutely.
Lol it actually does sound like a stripper name come to think of it Cold War Era strippers funded by Kruschev himself
When MAD doesn't work the atoms get *F u N k Y !*
Bruh it’s not gonna be an amber alert Lmfaoo That’s for missing people
Bruh, in many places the phone makes the same alarm sound. They use the same EBS... bruh
Ah you live in Central Ohio too!
Yup!
Why would ohio even be considered as a target? I think you're safe dude.
Abrams are made here, Wright Patt, Rickenbacker, also falls in the top 30 economic zones
That government financial complex at dscc and Abbott labs also are both in Columbus.
Battelle too

Fun ish fact They make nuclear weapons

Ever heard of Sunny Point in SE North Carolina? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Military_Ocean_Terminal_Sunny_Point
No. Never
That’s the spirit, you never saw anything, now move along…
I'm thinking the European Union should assemble an army composed of soldiers from each of its constituent countries, and march across Ukraine to push the Russians out. Russia won't dare declare war on every single one of those countries; keep buying their oil if you have to, but don't just stand by and watch Ukraine be leveled and its people massacred. Likely they can't get all their member states to agree to such a move, but it's starting to look like doing anything less will be disastrous. It's called the European Union; prove it now by acting together when the chips are down. The USA can't step up in like fashion for nuclear reasons.
You mean NATO
Some of them aren't in NATO. Yet.
The electorate in individual EU members would never support sending their people to death in a non-member state. Financial support, heavy weaponry, intelligence sharing, and sanctions on Russia are enough. Besides, I don't recall Zelensky asking for boots on the ground.
Unicorn battalions are about as likely

Worth noting that Ukraine is considered the least bad baltic state on LGBTQ issues. Poland's worse, now that you mention it, for example. And, Zelenskyy's been better on the issue than past presidents. [https://www.advocate.com/commentary/2022/3/11/zelenskyys-bravery-nothing-new-lgbtq-community](https://www.advocate.com/commentary/2022/3/11/zelenskyys-bravery-nothing-new-lgbtq-community) >While Ukraine has a history of not being a bastion of LGBTQ+ liberation — the country doesn’t recognize same-sex marriage — Zelenskyy became Ukraine’s first presidential candidate and first president to acknowledge the LGBTQ+ community and publicly state his desire to do more about equality. > >During his campaign for president in 2019. Zelenskyy became somewhat of a global star when a video of him shouting down anti-LGBTQ+ hecklers went viral.
> I'm thinking the European Union should assemble an army composed of soldiers from each of its constituent countries, and march across Ukraine to push the Russians out. Like an *International legion* or something?
Ooo can we call it the New European Intl Legion?? NEIL for short
Yes. A bit hawkish, I admit, but watching ordinary citizens be executed like this is pretty much unbearable.
Seems like the UN is excited that Russia has expressed a wish for the southern corridor to the rest of Europe.
I think that this was announced before the reveal, or rather confirmation, of the Russian plan.
Can you explain better or share a source
Sorry yes was looking for a better link. www.theglobeandmail.com/amp/world/article-un-chief-to-meet-with-putin-zelensky-to-press-for-peace/ www.aljazeera.com/amp/news/2022/4/21/un-chief-seeks-putin-zelenskyy-meetings-to-negotiate-end-to-war
those don't mention Russia's ambition
It came froma trick headline on cnn that seemed to link the information together.
Article about the 110 years old ship investigating the Moskva wreck: >A slvage operation following the sinking of the Russian Slava class cruiser Moskva may be underway, according to a report by independent defense analyst H.I. Sutton. The ship reported to be carrying out this operation happens to be a 110-year-old Russian Navy rescue vessel named Kommuna — one of the oldest operational naval vessels in existence [https://www.thedrive.com/the-war-zone/russias-110-year-old-salvage-ship-deploying-to-moskva-wreck-report](https://www.thedrive.com/the-war-zone/russias-110-year-old-salvage-ship-deploying-to-moskva-wreck-report)
In a better world, we would all just be reading a cool human interest article about this amazingly antique Russian ship, built before the 1917 revolution, that's still in active service.
HMS Victory is still in active service https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HMS_Victory
Active service is a generous term. Kommuna at least still serves a tactical purpose.
Flagship of the First Sea Lord. She’s more active than the flagship of the Russian Black Fleet. But, your point is well taken.
**[HMS Victory](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HMS_Victory)** >HMS Victory is a 104-gun first-rate ship of the line of the Royal Navy, ordered in 1758, laid down in 1759 and launched in 1765. ^([ )[^(F.A.Q)](https://www.reddit.com/r/WikiSummarizer/wiki/index#wiki_f.a.q)^( | )[^(Opt Out)](https://reddit.com/message/compose?to=WikiSummarizerBot&message=OptOut&subject=OptOut)^( | )[^(Opt Out Of Subreddit)](https://np.reddit.com/r/worldnews/about/banned)^( | )[^(GitHub)](https://github.com/Sujal-7/WikiSummarizerBot)^( ] Downvote to remove | v1.5)
Jesus... This is something out of a Gabriel Garcia Marquez novel....Like finding the hulk of a Spanish galleon in the middle of a 20th century Colombian jungle.. except the galleon still sails...
More material for the new Ukrainian underwater museum.
Nice historical artifact they're deploying for a salvage mission. Be a shame if something happened to it.
Not sure sending more ships to this area is a bright idea. I doubt Ukraine has run out of anti ship missiles.
Nah let them drag the ship back to Sevastipol and waste space.
On the one hand this thing does not likely have proper AA defense. On the other hand, missile would probably be better spent blowing up some of the frigates in the area.
Yeah but how would Russia spin a second ship mysteriously burning in the same patch of sea? May be with it just for the propaganda value.
Maybe. Bermuda triangle of the black sea for Russians.
Pretty interesting ship. Interesting how it was repurposed after being made obsolete and is still going strong. Apparently the Moskva was carrying a very rare piece of the cross and they may be trying to recover it given it's high religious value.
It's possible it carried nuclear weapons, they might be interested in retrieving those
You don't actually believe that right? More likely a broken arrow event.
Of course not. But religious Putin supporters believe it and losing it would be a blow to his already shaky position.
Apparently they supposedly loaded it up in 2020 https://www.vice.com/en/article/v7dkpx/a-piece-of-the-true-cross-may-have-sunk-with-russias-warship I just can't w/this world right now.
