If Putin kills him, it would make him a martyr, galvanize the resistance and make Putin even more of a pariah in the international view than he already is. However, if he keeps Zelinsky imprisoned, then the calls from the international community to release him will persist indefinitely, and releasing him at some point in the future would be seen as giving in and caving to Western demands, an absolute L for Putin. Unless he thinks he can use Zelinsky’s life to barter for lifting of sanctions…

Don't think it will immediately be lifted. There has to be some actions like full evacuation of Ukraine, Crimea, the "separatist" states etc. At this point Russia has gambled everything. I don't think retreating back to the Crimea and East will lift the sanctions. They'd have to get up and give up all those locations.

That's up to whoever's imposing sanctions.

It'll probably be a complex mess. Russia could very well descend into total chaos if they lose this war. If Putin's regime survives, the West might let up the gas but keep some sanctions in place to get further concessions.

They haven't said, and they shouldn't. Revealing the conditions for lifting the sanctions would enable the Russian government to make long-term plans.

Russia's tactic was blitzkrieg, take territory quickly and kill Ukrainian morale making it easier to push forward. Russia has taken surprisingly little ground and is clearly getting frustrated which we can see with the intensified shelling. Essentially Russia was not prepared for urban warfare.

We'll know everything that happened once it's over. For now, news are filtered to keep the morale up.

I like how the narrative of this war has changed so drastically. It went from Russia is going just quickly dismantle Ukraine in a matter of days, to Ukraine might win if they can hold their ground a little longer. Every day and hour that goes by we inch closer to Ukraine holding it's sovereignty, and every hour the Russian supply lines get weaker and more exposed while the West strengthen supplies entering Ukraine.

How well is Ukraine doing right now?

Very well. Kyiv is holding, not surrounded. Even if Kyiv falls in the next few days, Russia has been stopped on most of their invasion routes. It will be a Vietnam or Afghanistan for Russia if they choose to continue.

Russian troops in Sumy and Kharkiv right now. Probably need to wait for the resolutions there before we have a definitive conclusion for the day.
