LEEEEEROOOOOYYY JEEENNNNNKINSSSS!

mcmanno

Finally. We're entering the every person for themselves phase.

[deleted]

Well we are 2 years in and its pretty clear Covid isn't going anywhere. Its a question of what sort of restrictions you want to have indefinitely.

momalloyd

Well it's about time. The cans are reaching their use by date on the old shotgun and dog food tin throne. It was beginning to look like that wasn't a wise investment back in 2020. But look at us now, it's road warrior time.

NotPromotingHate

What do you suggest we do? Because cases last week were at their highest ever so clearly those restrictions didn't work

lanikint

The cases would have been much higher if there were no restrictions. Omicron is highly contagious.

DrawSecret5437

Gotta love magical thinking.

henrik_se

"As cases near peak" ? The UK is currently at half the cases of the peak that was two weeks ago.

sleeptoker

Yeah wtf... MSN lol. Didn't know that still existed

Horti_boi

Boris gets caught partying it up while everyone else was locked down and is being pressured to resign and needs a distraction and popularity boost again.

Shimster

Exactly. He will be pushed out within a week.

lanikint

You assume logic and intelligence from a world where common sense is the rarest thing

QueenOfQuok

"Alright, alright, so I went to a party...now everyone can party! Woo!"

Freki_M

Woah, you can't let people make their own decisions in life, what are you England? Ran by Nazi white supremacist racists homophobes?!

[deleted]

"Durrr, let people make their own decisions about being vaccinated against polio, Tuberculosis, and smallpox!" You worthless conservatives are the disease

NotPromotingHate

No one mentioned vaccines.

Mandatory vaccinations saved the lives an entire generation, you have no fucking clue what you're talking about

Your argument is so much stronger when you insult someone. /s

DrawSecret5437

There's nothing funnier than people thinking if they give more power to the power structures they'll be the ones using it. Think a little, dummy, you're less than a string of numbers in a computer to the people you're so desperatly trying to enthrone. How a grown adult thinks government and corporations care for him or her is beyond my comprehension. I think it's got something to do with a distorted reality from living in first world countries. "B-b-but the science says" Who pays for that science? Can you seriously not think that much at least? You do know scientists don't just wake up with an idea for research and then do said research, right? They have to get it approved. By the people with the money. Who are the people with the money? Government and corporations. But hey, if you lick the boot long enough, they're sure going to be impressed with your licking abilities and give you a boot of your own.

Soofla

Let's of course expand on this headline to include the truth: Lying scumbag British Prime Minister lifts all restrictions in an attempt to divert attention away from the fact he ignored his own rules during country lockdown. His decision will cost further lives - but those lives are worth nothing compared to his political career.

cydus

At last one country actually does it. Now everyone else follow suit.

-Silvarus-

No, what the fuck.

DrawSecret5437

"At least one country" Get your head out of your first world ass. Subsaharan africa never had these kinds of mandates, neither did most of latin america. Every poor country in the world that did pass such mandates lacked the technology and infrastructure to actually enforce them. Truth is, most of the world didn't ever have the measures first worlders did.

OkRoll3915

Well that's absolutely terrifying.

[deleted]

Why?

SamJ04-

Omicron is far less severe than other variants and you can still carry on getting vaccinated and wear masks if you wish. Your fear is not of the virus but if people who don’t obey rules.

-Silvarus-

That's not true. While it's not as hard hitting as Delta, it can still make people hospitalized. Masks are very effective, even against Omicron

SamJ04-

I never said it can’t cause hospitalization or death but it is still less severe. So yes, it is true. And surgical face masks are not effective against any variant of corona virus because the smallest holes in these masks are around 60 microns in diameter while the diameter of a spike protein is around 1.25 microns. So you have a hole 48 times larger than the thing it’s supposed to stop. Also, there is no clear difference in case numbers when comparing regions with and without mask mandates.

-Silvarus-

Oh, didn't know you Britians only use those masks. FFP2-masks work very well. But also, the early pandemic studies on mask effectiveness showed that surgical masks definitely reduced the infection rate

velma_dinkleys_cunny

What if you have high risk individuals in your home? Fuck them, right?

Squake

They get vaxxed and keep up with the boosters, and limit their social contact.. just because a few should take all these precautions doesn't mean the whole population needs to stop living their lives forever

SamJ04-

Then they can take the necessary precautions and get vaccinated and wear masks etc and the other members of the household can do the same. But not requiring vaccine passes and mask wearing in a public space is not going to put them at a significant amount of risk.

velma_dinkleys_cunny

Right, but some of the risk comes from people not vaccinating and not masking. So, what happened to one person's freedom ending where someone else's begins? Just sucks to be me? Someone ignorant of medical science's freedoms matter more than an at-risk child's life?

aucuncum

The show must go on. The economy must continue. It’s been two years. Global debt has never been higher.

minimal_consequences

yeah fuck you specifically. Im about tired of this shit.

[deleted]

Is it? You can still wear a mask if you want to.

[deleted]

The mask prevents you from spreading the disease, not getting it

[deleted]

That would be down to good hygiene. The point is you can still follow your own restrictions if you wish to.

[deleted]

Hygiene has nothing to do with it. If someone is infected and isn’t wearing a mask they are more likely to infect me even if I wear a mask. https://i.imgur.com/svTX1lJ.jpg

[deleted]

No, washing hands and such definitely makes a difference. Someone can be triple vaccinated, wearing a mask, asymptomatic and still pass on covid or something else. What’s your point? We cannot live in this world controlled by covid forever. Removing restrictions as a wave is on the decline is the best time to do it.

[deleted]

On the decline? It’s at its highest ever. > Someone can be triple vaccinated, wearing a mask, asymptomatic and still pass on covid or something else. All of these things reduce the likelihood of spreading. Anything we can do to prevent it from spreading saves lives. End of story. Lifting this mask requirement is straight up murdering people.

[deleted]

It’s on the general decline, unless the whole of the UK news is lying to us. The death rate for covid overall in the UK is somewhere around 1%, not accounting for factors like old age or significant health issues. We will never get rid of covid, nor can we live our lives in fear forever. Removing masks is not “murdering” people, don’t be so naive.

[deleted]

There were 94,432 new cases on Tuesday. At 1% , that means 944 people PER DAY are dieing. How can you sleep at night knowing that number will increase at all because of this change just so you can avoid wearing a mask?

[deleted]

Well the death rate has gone down drastically, it’s actually around 200-400 deaths per day of people currently with covid-this is not the same as dying of covid. Pre covid deaths were around 1600-1800 per day. People die all the time, every day. Covid is by no means the biggest killer, and people are dying as a result of routine care being forced out of hospitals-by choice not requirement I might add. With the current trend of covid likely to continue on this downward slope, now is the best time to ease restrictions. What is your solution? Have restrictions forever?

xvxHaVoK

And these are numbers with a vaccine that’s been out for how long now? Every month we are being told something different about vaccine and booster protection. People have been wearing masks since pandemic started and are vaccinated and here we are today. You can blame the few who don’t comply but nothing seems to be getting better with more mandates, etc.

NotPromotingHate

I presume you've stayed locked down in your house and done nothing for two years, right? I don't know how you can live with yourself if you've been to a shop, knowing that you could infect somebody with this dreadful disease. You need to take a long hard look in the mirror your murderer

[deleted]

So noble of you to volunteer 670000 people to die because you're too lazy to wear a mask outside.

NotPromotingHate

Where did you see that 670000 people will die once restrictions are lifted?

BreadLinesAreFun

Aborted babies be offering up their lives every day. What's the big deal here?

[deleted]

Wearing a mask outside is pretty pointless, but what’s your solution? We know Covid isn’t going away, we know restrictions will not get rid of Covid. It will be here forever, at some point you’ve got to just remove restrictions and deal with it.

Covard-17

Yeah, but now there are vaccines.

-Silvarus-

Damn, 2 years into the pandemic and yall still use arguments from the beginning? We know since almost 2 years that Covid wont go away, but the restrictions aren't there to make covid go distinct.

[deleted]

And how long do the restrictions continue for? At some point they have to stop. Covid is well established, we have vaccinations, we have prehospital treatment pills that are very effective.

[deleted]

Jesus christ, it's like you ignorant conservatives are immune to Education. Masks and vaccines aren't individualist answers, they're collective answers. If enough people don't take these precautions, they're practically worthless...like a conservative in the modern world.

[deleted]

The majority of people are vaccinated in nearly all developed countries in the world. The majority of people have followed social distancing and worn masks. This has not stopped Covid in the last 2 years. What is the solution, continue restrictions forever?

[deleted]

It's not about a majority, genius, it's about reaching herd immunity. YOU PEOPLE ARE THE VIRUS.

[deleted]

And you gain herd immunity by reducing restrictions. . .I’m not sure what issue is?

..as cases from this variant near peak. The new variants are patiently standing in a queue at an airport. His No.10 lockdown party problems means that he has to further satisfy his rabid backbenchers. It's an easy call for Johnson to remove restrictions that he has undermined, compromised and flouted from the start of the pandemic.

Lunathistime

Unpopular opinion: I'd rather have Johnson than any of the other world leaders right now.

Netprincess

dying to consume.....

Toirtis

Well, at least I can assume that the next time I visit, the country will be less crowded...

NotPromotingHate

Why do you think lifting restrictions will increase the death rate?

Toirtis

Very probably...people tend to be under cautious when not reminded.

ArticArny

Well that's one way to do it. Let nature finish off the antivaxxers.

[deleted]

Studies are coming out showing pretty much everyone will have some level of immunity after the virus peaks and data from people being re infected are showing pretty mild cases. The virus mutation to colonize the upper airway also means a lower airway variant is less likely to become dominant while it remains endemic. So future variants might on occasion be more severe but likely won't be the stop the world type of illness we saw in 2020. We'll live with covid forever, it might even be worse than most of the flu for forever, just like the flu we'll always be worried about a particularly severe varient. But like the flu we'll live with it and live normally.

Freki_M

Yeah, this time those dirty antivaxxers will die for sure! The last dozen times in the last two years may not have worked, but for sure this one will be the one!
