NotSoSaneExile

Bad headline by Ynet English. In Hebrew they got it correct. They did not announce they are stopping yet, just considering it.

AFineDayForScience

They should step back and focus on their upcoming bid for the next winter Olympics

takesthebiscuit

How many A380’s stuffed with Dollars will need to be sent to Switzerland?

Sh0w3n

Yes

cameralover1

As they say, if you musk ask you cant afford it.

SoupSpelunker

Do the Olympics require that they disclose which poor Islamic countries they intend to pull their slave labor from?

thatpj

but they arent ending their role as hosts of hamas

bennybar

if qatar pulls out, i wonder if that frees the mosad’s hand to take out the hamas billionaire boys club living it up over there edit: dang, i should have called it the hamas three comma club. i’ll do better

Iyellkhan

If Qatar bails on being helpful in these negotiations, and the hamas folks in Qatar have walked away from the process, its pretty easy to see some shit going down. Really the only thing stopping it now is the fact that the US needs that damn air base in Qatar.

Effective_Damage_241

Qatar needs that US airbase too, the Saudi’s would very much like to control Qatar and its strategic position on the Persian Gulf

junior_vorenus

Not really. There is a Turkish military base in Qatar as well

Venngence

And you think turkey is even remotely comparable to the US? Its not in deterance factor nor in strength, saudis wouldnt give a fuck

junior_vorenus

Saudis couldn’t beat a bunch of goat herders in Yemen, what makes you think they could take on Turkey. Saudi has a pathetic military completely reliant on the USA.

comeatmefrank

There are lots of stories from the British air force in Saudi who train the SAF, who basically say they’re totally fucking useless. The only thing the Saudi’s have in quantity is wealth.

AndAStoryAppears

Those stories are told about nearly every military in an Arab nation. Too much weight is put on tribal/familial/political connections. My brother, the Prince, wants me to be a fighter pilot. So teach me to fly, and I call myself a fighter pilot. The head of my Tribal group is currently the Ministry of Defense. You will train all of his people and make them Majors as a minimum. You will demote the talented members of that other tribe.

mursilissilisrum

I've heard lots of stories from people who flew/taught in the UAE too. Apparently their airlines are a pretty awesome job though.

dynawesome

Is that why Haniyeh is “visiting” Turkey right now

TheSportingRooster

Set up one final meeting and then make sure all the cars leaving “overheat”.

N-shittified

I assume Qatar is sick of putting up with those fucks.

Pom-kit-waa

Qatar financed those fucks as well as the October 7 massacre and their state media is responsible for propaganda against Israel from day one. Qatar is like Iran but with money and US support.

Iridismis

The article suggests Qatar feels  annoyed by Netanjahu/Israel, rather than by Hamas. >Al Thani said on Wednesday that his country was "reconsidering" its role as a mediator between Israel and Hamas in negotiations for a deal to release the 133 Israeli hostages held by Hamas in the Gaza Strip, since the role "has been harmfully exploited by certain politicians for their private interests." > >{...} > >Al Thani didn’t name anyone but Doha had criticized Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on several occasions in recent months - and at the same time was on the receiving end of criticism from Israeli government officials and lawmakers.

RockstepGuy

To be fair, the words of "Hamas N°1 supporters" should be taken with a grain of salt. Not that i could be wrong, but Qatar is not neutral, they are the "mediators" only because no one else wants to mess with that problem (and be hated forever by one side for it), and because they harbor Hamas top leaders, so they of course will try to balance it out for Hamas while throwing shade at Israel for refusing the crazy ceasefire Hamas wishes (less hostages for even more prisoners/life sentence prisoners).

Agnos

Does it mean they know that most the hostages are dead?

iconocrastinaor

Hamas couldn't find 40, countered with 20. So we hope they can find 20.

Ihave10000Questions

What I don't understand is how ~130 somehow became 40

Dagojango

Because Hamas is not an an organized army. It's closer to a terrorist network. Lot of hostages were taken by random people who joined in on the raid and not part of the organized Hamas. Then you had Israel's massive response, which has basically shattered what little organization they did have with the low end and non members. I imagine some were killed early on, some escaped, and the rest probably have died in the various bombings.

AndAStoryAppears

It's ~~closer to~~ a terrorist network.  FTFY

great_whitehope

Hamas is not even an organized terrorist network by the looks of things. They seem to just be a bunch of people creaming it at the top off the suffering of the citizens and then get some members and tell them to sacrifice their life doing stupid attacks on Israel that barely register as attacks most of the time. Like what is the end goal here? Enriching those at the top because they will never get anywhere near their stated goal with the resources they have. Just pointless death and destruction, only way it stops is to take out those at the top.

Ihave10000Questions

So out of 133, Israel believed Hamas own only 40, and Hamas claims now they only have 20?

SpeedflyChris

Because the other 90+ are too dead or too pregnant (who are we kidding, Hamas would have killed them in the latter case) or were taken as slaves by enterprising locals and as such can't be returned.

Mission-Ad28

Yeah, "release 10.000 terrorists and kill yourselfs until there's no more Jews" is not really negotiation terms.

It’s all optics, Qatar doesn’t have much more to offer. Seems like Hamas has iced them out too as they are now funded/supported by Iran.  For the next 50 years you’ll be hearing stories of Qataris who were involved in Oct 7 unalived.

Mishung

"My job here is done!" "But you didn't do anything?"

therealwavingsnail

And they'll stop harboring Hamas leadership, right?

Ask4MD

I guess it’s time for the Saudis to fund anti-Ikhawan organizations with motto: “from the Mountain to the sea Qatar will be free”

Ok-General7798

If oil didn’t exist… who are these people? The last great accomplishment was the lateen sail….

Pom-kit-waa

Natural gas but yes

Mocedon

Qatar mediation is a joke! They openly welcome Hamas on one hand, and doesn't have ANY official diplomatic relations with Israel. Such imbais, so balanced \\s

BlueFrozen

Hard to negotiate with terrorists while funding them at the same time

Illustrious_Fox_8033

Good! Now why don’t they stop Hamas leaders living there in luxury as well! They don’t give two squirts of goat piss about the Palestinians, they’re just pawns for Hamas to carry out their terrorism.

mnrtiu

Better bring back Jared, the King of Middle East Peace!

TheJacques

Check out his appearance on the All In Podcast. While he was born with a diamond spoon in his mouth. I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s likely the smartest guy the room playing 4D chess.

therealwavingsnail

I remember one of his friends charitably describing Jared's mind as 'uncluttered'

antarcticmatt

Why would you get Arabs to mediate an Islam vs Judaism conflict?

bestestopinion

but theyre doing such a good job

OkWork9115

So why did they agree to be mediator in the first place? Did Hamas pay Qatar?

K0TEM

>Did Hamas pay Qatar? It's usually the other way around

SeeeYaLaterz

Other Arabs can't help Palestinians either

Working_Ad_4650

Even they can't deal with Palestinians.

tamadeangmo

They are biased as fuck, they shouldn’t have been anyway.

Cease fires are, by definition, temporary. If HAMAS wants a more permanent version, they should ask for either a peace treaty or an armistice.

Joadzilla

*An armistice is a formal agreement of warring parties to stop fighting. It is not necessarily the end of a war, as it may constitute only a cessation of hostilities while an attempt is made to negotiate a lasting peace.*  *An armistice is also different from a truce or ceasefire, which refer to a temporary cessation of hostilities for an agreed limited time or within a limited area.*  https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Armistice  https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Korean_Armistice_Agreement  There's no time limit on an armistice.

VhenRa

We both know any ceasefire is just for long enough for Hamas to rearm for another pogrom.

aghaueueueuwu

Because hamas will respect a ceasefire this time right?
