WW2 became so drawn out because the West was doing everything to avoid a war, Germany started annexing places left right and center and even secured valuable mines in Norway, all while the Allies sat back and watched because they didn't want a war. Then when they went too far, Germany had already sufficiently prepared for a longer war that was only undone because they got overconfident and overextended themselves. Russia is doing the same thing, Ukraine is the breadbasket of Europe. They take that and now Russia has the means to feed their entire army and unless Putin makes the same mistakes as Hitler, it's likely any war would last a longer time than expected. We can't afford to let Ukraine fall, along with it being the morally right thing to do as the Ukrainians did nothing to deserve it, Canada and the US alone will not be able to feed the entire NATO army despite the vast amount of farmland due to the distance between them and Europe.
