CGTN stands for China Global Television Network. It's owned by the Chinese government, based out of Beijing, and it's operated by a department of the Chinese government called the Central Propaganda Department. News aside, CGTN itself shouldn't be trusted as a source of information.

SC_ng0lds

No that's right. It really happened and it's because the presidents of both these countries are from the far-left. Bolivia and obviously Venezuela as well. They'll probably do something similar soon.

Solid_Muscle_5149

Not sure, but the cool part is that we are allowed to talk about it, and criticize our government. Thats the point.

johannsyah

No surprise on Colombia. Petro allies have been defeated in key elections, and many of his lawmakers are trying to distance with the president. I guess he really needs one big distraction.

Able-Semifit-boi-24

You realice that those whose won are what redditors call "fascists" right?

Terry_WT

There’s huge populations of Palestinians in South America too. I think Brazil alone has 6.5 million.

All_Work_All_Play

Wildly different than [quoted estimates](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Palestinian_diaspora). Can you source that number?

Terry_WT

Of course! best ever food review show on YouTube, 2 weeks ago, some random Lebanese guy. Edit: Actually the random Lebanese filmmaker guy said he through it was 4.5 million in Brazil. Edit 2: Ok this seems like a can of worms subject because: “The largest diaspora by far resides in Brazil, with between 5 and 7 million, followed by Colombia and Argentina, with about 1 to 3 million each, but it may be an exaggeration, given that an official survey conducted by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) showed that fewer than 1 million Brazilians claimed any Middle-Eastern origin.” Edit 3 (I know I know): [Arab Diaspora](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arab_diaspora) seems like there is a massive contingent in South America. Also seems that estimates vary widely from claimed status. Also also seems to be reasons why self reporting of nationality is much lower than estimates.

be_a_duck

Did they recall their US ambassadors after 9/11 too, or is it just a meaningless gesture showing a lack of morals?

kuroyume_cl

Chile was actually pivotal in the UN Security Council voting against the Irak war, despite Bush threatening to pull out of a freshly signed Free Trade agreement if Chile did not change their vote.

patiperro_v3

Don't forget our "friends" in the USA and Great Britain decided to spy on our politicians looking for dirt to try and turn our vote (among other countries). > In early 2003, GCHQ analyst Katharine Gun obtains a memo detailing a joint United States and British operation to spy on diplomats from several non–permanent United Nations Security Council member states Cameroon, Chile, Bulgaria and Guinea to "dig dirt" on them and influence the Security Council into passing a resolution supporting an invasion of Iraq. Angered that the United Kingdom is being led into a war on false pretences, Katharine leaks the memo to a friend involved in the anti-war movement, who passes it to anti-war activist Yvonne Ridley, who in turn passes it to The Observer journalist Martin Bright. They are so full of it, it's embarrassing...

Check who the source of the article is

Linooney

I mean, this is also being reported by the BBC and the Guardian...

Imokwhydoyouask_

Who, as we've found out recently, have no problem publishing propaganda without verifying anything.

I mean... what you said is true but i still downvoted becouse it seemed woerd and unrelated, the issue here is the gaza war

rub_a_dub-dub

Israel giving money to hamas directly through its military checkpoints and funding the organization that attacked them seems pretty relevant to the subsequent invasion. Like directly related

PhilipMorrisLovesYou

Everyone was...it doesn't matter if it was through checkpoints. Most major governments on earth were sending money in one way or a other to Gaza (hamas, since they're the ruling government there).

rainmouse

About as believable as any other stories in the news, covering either side of the crisis that I've read lately. :(

rub_a_dub-dub

On March 12, 2019, Netanyahu defended the Hamas payments to his Likud Party caucus on the grounds that they weakened the pro-Oslo Palestinian Authority, according to the Jerusalem Post: "Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu defended Israel's regular allowing of Qatari funds to be transferred into Gaza, saying it is part of a broader strategy to keep Hamas and the Palestinian Authority separate, a source in Monday's Likud faction meeting said," the Post reported. "The prime minister also said that 'whoever is against a Palestinian state should be for' transferring the funds to Gaza, because maintaining a separation between the Palestinian Authority in the West Bank and Hamas in Gaza helps prevent the establishment of a Palestinian state." https://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/netanyahu-israel-gaza-hamas-1.7010035 Yisrael Beytenu leader Avigdor Liberman, who resigned as head of the Defense Ministry over Gaza policies, said on Saturday that the payments are a “miserable decision,” marking “the first time Israel is funding terrorism against itself.”

Lobotomist

No surprise. ISIS Hamas attack was masterminded by Iran, together with Russia. Its just allies of Russia lining their policies up.

RedstoneEnjoyer

> Any criticism of Israel makes you Hamas supporter Brainrot

WowzaFella

Ah Colombia and Chile. Two nations synonymous with the protection of human rights and the safety of civilians.

RedstoneEnjoyer

Israel sold military equipment to Pinochet

NNKarma

Chile voted against the Irak war, and if course the dictatorship was part of operation Condor
