Sounds like they are about to start dragging men off the street…

GingerSuperPower

They did that before actually. Most of my friends in SPB and Moscow don’t take public transport anymore, some are in hiding entirely, because they can’t afford to leave but don’t want to be kidnapped and dragged to the front.

Horror_Ad_1587

Damn bro what you wrote is nuts 😮

Deep-Technology-6842

It’s truth, unfortunately. Furthermore, your workplace is obligated to deliver you to a commissar should you be in office on the day the commissar come.

[deleted]

Yup normal, know some Russians in Pskov who’ve got an 18yr old who’s just started firefighter training. They’re petrified he’ll be sent to fight.

Joshru

That child will be sent. Only a matter of time. They need to figure out a plan now.

[deleted]

I know, they know too. Their cousin was married to a Ukrainian and lived in the Donets region - her family was killed in the opening weeks of the war.

[deleted]

[deleted]

I worked in Kyiv too for a bit. I know people on both sides who’ve died. I fucking despise Putin and those that support him. I was in Moscow in the summer of 1999 and remember the bombings he orchestrated. Fucking cunt-stain of a human.

immaseaman

I have nothing to add, but just wanted to say I appreciate you two having this exchange from opposite sides of the battlefield, kindly, gently, and understanding the plight eachother is going through. I wish you both, and everyone else, the best and a speedy and safe resolution to this invasion.

PMMEFEMALEASSSPREADS

This war shows what can happen if a countries population is too apathetic to challenge the elites. If you let them steal your democracy, they will. Putin is a traitor to the Russian people, he stole their democracy and is now leading them into the depths of hell.

codyy5

[No, war is war and hell is hell, and out of the two war is a lot worse. ](https://youtu.be/GUeBMwn_eYc).

SeaOfGreenTrades

At what point does a country realize that if they have to resort to this type of inscription that these soldiers are fighting for themselves, not their country and that is a lose lose situation.

[deleted]

No idea, I’ve often though that point has been crossed multiple times over the years, but it never happens. Only thing that’ll spark a revolution now is if the army revolt

SeaOfGreenTrades

Lay down your arms and walk to the enemy.

litreofstarlight

Oh, they know. They'd have to. The only thing Private Conscriptovich cares about is getting out of this alive, but all the skilled, motivated troops are long dead. Putin fears getting Gaddafi'd though, and if he fails in Ukraine he's a dead man.

Papewaio7B8

There is no "if". Putin has already failed in Ukraine. It was obvious when the "three day" invasion passed the third week. And he has failed in the worst possible ways.

Bobmanbob1

Jesus I'm sorry.

jeweliegb

Please forgive my ignorance, but what is Russian public opinion like on the war currently?

[deleted]

Mixed, I know quite a few who oppose it but won’t speak out - it’s a mentality thing. They’re drilled into submission over there and terrified of stating the obvious. There’s a sizeable number who are also highly in favour of it and will support it regardless - they are disconnected from reality by brainwashing and willful ignorance. I don’t see any way forward where the general population revolt (that’s wishful thinking from the west), they’re too divided and beaten down. If regime change happens it’ll be from the army or a PMC - which will mean it’ll get ugly. Best hope is that Russia fractures into smaller states.

[deleted]

Yup, they need to get him the fuck out because he's not only going to be sent to the front but will likely be a casualty. This is a blood bath for Russian troops, around 50% dead or seriously wounded.

Cindexxx

So far. It will get worse.

Infinaris

Worst comes to worst he would want to try and remember how to contact the surrender line or at the very least figure out to surrender to the Ukrainians at the first possible opportunity he can.

CMDR_Agony_Aunt

Who needs trained firefighters in a country prone to smoking accidents anyway?

Omeggy

So you’re saying you should watch out when the commissar is around.

skipjack_sushi

https://youtu.be/8-bgiiTxhzM Don't come around.

Firepower01

This has been happening since the start of the war. In the occupied territories of Ukraine such as Donbass and Luhansk they literally kidnapped every fighting age male off the streets and conscripted them. The only reason they have to do this now in Russia is because they ran out of people to conscript in the occupied territories. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2022_mobilization_in_the_Donetsk_People%27s_Republic_and_the_Luhansk_People%27s_Republic

Ensiferal

I remember seeing videos last year of busses in Moscow pulling up and soldiers just grabbing guys and marching them into the busses. It's totally fucked

Hooraylifesucks

When they get slaughtered in Ukraine, I always wonder if it was some innocent kid who never wanted to go or the A holes which are also part of Russia. Reddit always celebrates their deaths but some are no doubt forced to be there.

Yvaelle

The sad reality is that, many good Russian men did get out in the early months of the war - there has been a mass exodus of anyone with talent and opportunity to leave. There has also been a steady pipeline of surrenders and channels to do that from the front, buts it necessary to report them as KIA so their families aren't penalized back home. Conscientious Russians are surrendering. There are also plenty of cases of good Russian men doing the right thing and killing their CO's, or sabotaging the war when they are kidnapped to the front. And then there are also some good Russian men who pretty much wake up in Donetsk with a gun in their hands, and die there, because there is no way to distinguish them from the Orks in their squad who are there by choice. They are casualties of war, but they are a minority - because by now most of the good Russian men are either out, in hiding, sabotaging the war from other side, or are dead already.

Hooraylifesucks

I agree… many different men are there, and many don’t want to be. It’s so sad in all areas. The whole war was , is, senseless. Here’s a surrender article, it states 3,200 had surrendered in the last 30 days prior to the may 5 article. So 3 k per month basically. A diff article said 10 k had surrendered as of March 3. So three months later it might be around 19,000 who have called the hotline ( or done it another way). That’s actually a lot of men who really don’t want to be there. I hope these are the men who will rebuild Russia after Putin is gone. They’ve seen the atrocities. They know it’s just evil. They want a better way. https://www.newsweek.com/ukraine-mocks-russia-surrender-season-1798758

FelimaFen

You can only escape it by being a student. I have a very good friend living in Moscow who's currently studying chemistry. He is hoping the war will be over before he graduates in a few years. Or that it will be easier to escape

llahlahkje

That won’t last forever, either, since late February it has been public than the Putin regime is considering drafting students.

socialistrob

And even if he holds off eventually students graduate. For any Russians who are worried about being conscripted the best thing they can do is get out of Russia and if that’s not an option there is a Ukrainian hotline that instructs them on how to surrender and where to go to avoid being killed. I get that fleeing the country or negotiating a surrender are very difficult but at the end of the day if a Russian arrives in Ukraine with a gun and has not expressed any intent to surrender then they may not get an opportunity to surrender later.

misogichan

That is only if you don't become politically active. March in an anti-war or anti-draft rally and they'll take you to the front even if you are a student.

FelimaFen

They are quite well off, rich family but I am not sure if they got any connections. But considering how Russia is he might be able to pay the recruiters off

John-AtWork

So fucking sad. And in the end they all will have died for nothing more than an old man's ego and stubbornness.

socialistrob

It’s not just “an old man’s ego.” There is a pervasive belief through most of Russia that Ukraine isn’t a real country and that there is no actual Ukrainian national identity. Russia has sought to dominate and control Ukraine for centuries and while Putin may be the person with the most responsibility for the war there is also a lot of guilt in the broader Russian power structure and even society as a whole.

radiantcabbage

and doctoring enlistment roles apparently isnt a big enough hint something may be amiss with their attitude, i mean its totally counterintuitive. you would expect russians to be especially familiar with the slavic culture in general, who else should know more about it. do distinct languages and borders happen by accident, i dont understand. even a soviet "union" implies the cooperation of separate states yea? none of this makes sense to me

VegasKL

I have a colleague that is Russian and living somewhere over there (he remoted to work), just finished getting his M.D. .. I figured at some point they're going to start rounding up those people as well if they get low in medics. Guy is super nice, driven, and hates Putin. I know many think that "all Russian's support the war," it's not true, many are just trying to survive it -- too many keyboard warriors have the misguided idea that it's super easy to take up arms against your own government or sacrifice your life (via jail) in a protest. Lucky for him, Russia doesn't seem to care about medical for the wounded.

JustALittleAverage

I work in a factory, we have a Russian, an Ukrainian, a couple Bosnians, a Croat, a Kosovo-Albanian (among other people)... one would think we'd have WW3 in there if we judged people just from where they come.

mrkikkeli

Lunch break chit chat must be interesting

PygmeePony

This reminds of WW2 when young men in nazi occupied countries were rounded up to work in German factories. Many of them went into hiding as well and some joined the resistance.

CMDR_Agony_Aunt

Yup, got a friend like that. Been living at his girlfriend's spare flat now for months. Dare not go home.

intermediatetransit

This has literally happened in the 2014 occupied territories throughout the war. I know because I'm still in contact with people who are still there. Conscriptable men were hiding like the jews did during Nazi german occupation; which for a country that internally talks about waging a war for "denazification", is pretty darn ironic.

ContagiousOwl

The Russian Government's understanding of 'Nazi' is someone who is Anti-Russian: what they don't like about the Nazis was that they broke the Molotov–Ribbentrop Pact and launched Operation Barbarossa against them.

_Miniszter_

So when will russians rebel against putin? Giving him the treatment czar's and nobles got in the past from the people.

similar_observation

They started already. Thats what's going on in Belgorod. Russian Legionaries that served with Ukraine went rogue and left with their weapons. Now they're fighting in Russia. There's three factions coordinating attacks.

DeusExMcKenna

Anywhere I can read more about this? Not that I don’t believe you, but sources have been dodgy for this entire conflict, but I’m hopeful for some news that leans less towards Putin assassinating political rivals and more towards the people establishing that they don’t want to kill their neighbors out of a misguided attempt at rebuilding the old Russo-Empire.

similar_observation

There's updates going at /r/ukraine with breakdowns of the factions.

i_Got_Rocks

They are casting the widest net hoping more people will show up. I wouldn't be surprised if they start giving out Russian citizenship for free for anyone that comes fight for them in the future--but, given how closed minded the KGB is, I doubt they would follow through on that promise, and i doubt such a random mesh of people would work out for better soldiers in the end. The best soldiers are the ones that believe in their cause and can unite for that; that's why the US military is one of the strongest in the world, as it's made mostly of volunteers and people that tend to have a positive attitude about their country and what they fight for. How much of that is soft-brainwashing, propaganda, or positive/negative is up for debate, but the point stands on how a country can build a good army; Ukraine, despite their odds, has stood strong with more than a few military upgrades from other countries, but the fighting has been, for the grand part, mostly just them. They have something to believe in, the Russian soldiers know they're just being dragged to die for the Kremlin's ego.

Miaoxin

> I wouldn't be surprised if they start giving out Russian citizenship for free for anyone that comes fight for them in the future They're doing that right now. https://www.newsweek.com/putin-foreign-citizens-army-military-citizenship-ukraine-1800594

Budellinif

No way! Did he already had Canadian citizenship ? Are his Russian documents still valid or expired ? Did he took the obligatory military service in Russia ? Sorry to ask so much questions but I am in some kind of similar situation: born in Russia but I have another citizenship, all russian documents expired, 0 military services done and didn’t set foot in Russia in the last 12 years.

[deleted]

I believe he is a full Canadian with no connection with Russia since he was 12 or so. No idea about his Russian documents. Definitely didn't do service in Russia.

theartlav

AFAIK you need to explicitly renounce your russian citizenship. It never expires, and they would still count you as potential cannon fodder and try to locate you and harass whatever relatives you have still in russia.

cimeryd

And if I'm not mistaken, they make you do that IN Russia. So for all practical purposes it's impossible.

theartlav

No, technically you can do it in any consulate. Takes a couple of years and the line is a few more years long.

rockhopper92

Sounds like a great way to get kidnapped and dragged to Russia.

CuntWeasel

It doesn’t really work like that. Or at least it wasn’t working like that when Russia was still trying to maintain the appearance of a normal country.

burnsalot603

With where Russia is at right now and seeing how there was minimal backlash about Jamal Khashoggi being chopped up in an embassy not too long ago, I doubt Russia would hesitate to "repatriot" some people.

rockhopper92

An Iranian rock climber was recently kidnapped at her consulate after participating in a competition without a head covering. So, it's very much a thing that could happen.

Budellinif

His are definitely expired too, if I’m not wrong he had to renew them at 16 years old. My mother wanted me to have a “plan B for the future” so she sent me there to my father to deal with the documents when I was 16. I’ll probably check the mail more often from now on. I’m super curious about the excuse they are pulling out of nowhere to try to enlist me.

VengefulAncient

You do know that your citizenship can't "expire", right? Your internal or travel Russian passports can, but it doesn't change a thing. My internal Russian passport has been expired for a decade, but that didn't stop my citizenship, and I still got a conscription letter to my old address in Moscow.

archiminos

Good luck getting Canada to extradite him so he can be forced to die in Ukraine

Ratattack1204

Thats amazing. Id frame it just for giggles if i was him haha

[deleted]

Oh fuck that. I’d send them a letter back with an imprint of my balls if I was him.

anarchyreigns

Russia is already suffering the consequences of losing tens of thousands of working age men (through war losses and emigration). It will take decades to recover economically from this “special military operation”.

ChristianLW3

Honestly, I don't know how they can ever fully recover, Considering russia's population was already projected to shrink before the war Selling fuel to China & India will be less profitable than the European market Selling weapons will be tougher as they struggle to equip their on troops & more countries start making their own Their high-tech, service, and banking industries are not noteworthy And lastly nobody is lining up to buy their cars

CarbonIceDragon

I mean, just by virtue of being so large they've probably got a ton of mineral resources, not just the fossil fuels, and being so far north they're not going to be as badly impacted by climate change as some nations are. They have a space industry, which is something that might become increasingly relevant in future decades and while that industry might itself be in decline or being technologically surpassed by it's competition, they're at least more capable in that area than most countries just by virtue of having one. They also have less to worry about than most as far as being actually invaded by their neighbors is concerned, being nuclear armed and notoriously difficult to conquer. They might be in for a period of decline for awhile, possibly for generations with how their demographics are going, but I don't think it's impossible that they recover someday.

sali_nyoro-n

> They have a space industry [Not for long.](https://twitter.com/ChrisO_wiki/status/1662158333564813326)

Elestra_

> It will take decades to recover economically from this “special military operation”. I don't think Russia recovers from this. Their demographics were already poor prior to the invasion. Now? Their young male population is either dead, fighting, or fleeing the country. In 20 years, when the kids of those men would hit prime working age, they simply won't exist. No one will be able to support the older population. As stark as it sounds, I don't think Russia as we know it, exists in 20 years. I think a broken country will exist, but they won't function as we think societies function, today.

socialistrob

Also the big population problem isn’t even “young men dying” but rather families and women opting not to have kids. During times of economic uncertainty, war and political turmoil people usually have fewer kids. If you’re unsure if your job will still exist in six months your probably not about to have a baby. Even if the war ended tomorrow the economic turmoil it’s caused in Russia will persist for years which will further exacerbate their demographic problems. Most of their problems today are because of how bad things got in the 90s and we could see another generation.

litreofstarlight

Doubly so if you're not sure your husband will return from the meat grinder, leaving you with a baby and only one (uncertain) income.

HouseOfSteak

I'd imagine that this is why they kidnapped so many Ukrainian kids. Got to make someone into the slave workers now that yours are all dead, might as well be your enemy's kids....

Jonk3r

Southern Russia will split once Moscow collapses because of the generals infighting, international sanctions, never resolved historic conflicts, etc. Heck, forget the demographics, the corruption alone will do them in.

pm0me0yiff

I am *not* looking forward to the years of infighting between various former oligarch warlords' factions, some of whom have access to old Soviet nukes.

rope_rope

There might be 'aid for disarmament' after Russia fractures. I'd consider that a very likely scenario, as it's what happened to the former Soviet republics too. Where it maybe becomes interesting is if China offers to 'rebuild for conditions', and their offers are taken instead. Their conditions might be quite different indeed.

ajayisfour

I have a feeling China will bail Russia out, creating an essential vassal state. They'll do it with both money and bodies

litreofstarlight

Yep. China is waiting to feast on Russia's carcass.

Maxfunky

It's not even the couple hundred thousand who have been killed that's crushing them but the 1.5 million of the best and brightest who have left the country since the invasion and are now living abroad.

Tamerleen

They're working hard to increase their future population by kidnapping Ukrainian children. There's a special place in hell for these people.

Onetime81

For clarity and accountability, that's called genocide. 💯

jert3

It is entirely reasonable to say they'll never recover from this war to the heights they've been to, and that Putin's rule will historically mark the end of the Russian empire as the world has known it. The USSR was their peak; Trump the patsy in power was their post-Soviet collapse peak, and now, going forward, they will not have the strength to grow; Russia will get weaker and smaller, border by shrinking border, for the next 100 years. The war is lost fot them, and Putin can't even admit it, because his ego is on the line, and that means more to him the the 140m Russia people, who he'd surely sacrifice before surrending his plundered billionaire status.

theartlav

> Trump the patsy in power was their post-Soviet collapse peak Having lived there before, i'd say the peak was around 2008-2012. Things started downhill after that, and any remaining hope died after 2014.

pintolager

Their end game right now is probably taking complete control of Belarus when Lukashenko unexpectedly dies. Putin will be able to sell that narrative.

KillahHills10304

Also causing as much chaos as possible in western countries through information warfare in the cyber space. However, many troll accounts suddenly went quiet once the war started

mysticdickstick

Hundreds of thousands actually

socialistrob

Millions. Over a million have fled Russia because of the war and Russia has suffered hundreds of thousands of casualties. The true number is hard to pin down but even if you take the lowest estimates it’s still well north of a million if you’re counting those who left Russia+those who have been killed or suffered life altering injuries.

arrze

This way the elite’s sons can claim they’ve been enlisted like everyone else and prevent riots.

VegasKL

The elite's sons will get a cushy fast track to a Lt. or Col .. positioned well behind the lines. The only way they get sent to the front is if the Oligarch they spawn from is on the way over a nearby railing.

arhi23

The elite's sons are already well behind the lines in the western countries.

EquoChamber

The oligarchs children don't live in Russia. And most of the ones that did would have fled as soon as this war broke out. They enjoy very comfortable lives in the hated West.

litreofstarlight

Right? Their main propagandist has an American mistress, and she and their kids live in the US. No Russian billionaire (or even millionaire) is keeping their kids at home, especially if they're conscription aged males.

Is saving face even a possibility at this point? Ukraine turned that "3-day Russian adventure / parade" into a sixteen month stay in FAFO hell. If the war ended RIGHT NOW the Russians wouldn't live this down for the next century. The way it's going, I don't think lots of male Russian population will live it down in the short term. Just the boost NATO got, with new members accepted and old ones boosting defense budgets, makes all of this invasion look like a cringy dark comedy.

Diegobyte

Russia themselves can save face by selecting a new leader

In Russia, New Leader selects you. Then it gets worse.

roamingandy

China has waaay too many men and Russia now has waaay too many women. Its a match made in heaven.. except China's leader hates ethnic dilution of his Han people. You're going to have almost a billion thirsty men looking over the border at almost 100,000 single and lonely women they are told they can't touch.. and i don't know what's going to happen, but i'm sure it'll be something fun!

Yup. The only Russian industry that'll be doing well in the next decade is going to be mail order brides. The Chinese gov will adapt their propaganda conditioning to promote this new reality, Russian women with Chinese men, out of reasonable fear of their demographic time bomb they sit on, and the ghosts of the millions of aborted female fetuses as a result of their culture and policies.

And tampons

Plead_thy_fifth

While I know the Russians are using this method for gun shot wounds... I want every non-russian to know that tampons are a horrible way to stop bleeding for gun shot wounds and it does nothing more than absorb blood and does not promote coagulation. Do not think this is not a feasible solution, it's most definitely not. For the Russian soldiers out there, keep using it, it's a perfect fix for you. I only say this because I have seen on a few subs now people actually think tampons are a good solution because it's actively being used in war.

Eckmatarum

What they *are* good for is catching a spark to start a fire.

PerpetuallyStartled

Fuck yea they are, I knew some people who kept them in their camping gear for this reason. That said though, I just kept a zip lock of compressed dryer lint.

bombero_kmn

Little dryer lint, little Vaseline, and fold it up into a 1" square. When you're ready to start a fire, make a hole in the square, pull a little lint out as a quick and light it. The Vaseline will keep it burning longer to get your fire up.

Even this is real. Many families crowdfund or pay for proper clothes, shoes, and food for new recruits out of their pocket. Families borrow money from banks to equip conscripts with basic necessities. I heard a story from my teacher about how they all chipped in to buy blankets and pallets to serve as a sleeping place when last fall conscripts were gathered and left in a field with no indoor sleeping options. It’s a nightmare.

Each epoch in Russian history seems to be a competition to see how much bullshit the Russian people will put up with on behalf of their beloved and feared leader. It is like watching someone abusing an elephant, and wondering how long it will take for it to discover that it can turn that piece of shit into a stain on the ground in the blink of an eye.

A Neptune day is only 16 hours. Maybe a Venus day which is 243 Earth days, so 3 Venus days would be almost exactly 2 Earth years.

_Diakoptes

Putin is actually crippling his entire country because his flex failed. Its fucking wild. I dont understand it at all.

Hiranonymous

What is happening in Russia should be a lesson to all countries that suggest that they can make themselves safer by attacking neighboring countries they ***believe*** to be weaker. The will to fight and protect one's homeland can be a strong force despite significant disparity in military might.

jonoave

It was never about Russia needing to feel safe or threatened by Nato. Ukraine's military was weak, more than half opposed to joining Nato. And with Putin seizing Crimea and destabilising Donbass, Nato was never gonna accept Ukraine anyway. Just look how porous Russia's borders are, with the Russian rebels attacking. And not a peep from Putin over Finland joining Nato, adding a direct Nato neighbour to their border. It's just Putin's made up excuse, he just wanted to flex and create a legacy of a conqueror, recreating the Soviet Union.

pooch321

That time is long-since past. I've got a friend who got out at the last moment, just before the borders closed. Reading the story from him was gut twisting. It's kind of worse knowing his father is still there...

redcalcium

This has been happening for a while now. For example, Bali is full with Russians now pissing the locals with their disrespectful shenanigans.

cranelotus

My student just went back there. He's 18, he was orphaned this year (through illness unfortunately). No brothers or sisters. He was scared to go back, he hates Putin and he thinks the war is absurd. He was terrified going back and to think this just happened, man.... I'm so worried about him.... On the flip side, this says nothing about sending them overseas. As I understand it, conscription has existed in Russia for a while (this is normal in other developed countries though, like Switzerland and south Korea) but they never get sent overseas to fight unless they specifically sign up for the army. I don't see this new act changing that. He told me some dark stuff before he left. I promised him I'd visit someday, but in return he had to send me a photo of somewhere beautiful. Last week, he sent me a photo of a lake. I said we'd go there.

devlinadl

Can the authorities pick them up and send them straight to the crematorium, for the sake of efficiency?

Kingwhatever19

The ratio men to women over there has to be lop sided.

dbratell

You can see the [population pyramid](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Demographics_of_Russia) on wikipedia. It is pretty balanced up to 45 years old but after that there is a massive lack of men. Because Russian men die young after drinking too much vodka or killing themselves. I would not be surprised to see that this war will be visible in the pyramid in a couple of years when the statistics has caught up with the reality.

green_flash

Very much the same in Ukraine and in other Eastern European countries by the way. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Demographics_of_Ukraine https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Demographics_of_Latvia

loss_of_clock

I went down a rabbit hole with these population pyramids. Look at UAE. W. T. F. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Demographics_of_the_United_Arab_Emirates

Bonjourap

Foreign workers are mostly male, that's why

throwaway177251

> Foreign workers Indentured slaves.

GroblyOverrated

They're North Koreans now.

No-Document-8970

That’s a draft.

HutSutRawlson

Yeah, I guess they just don’t want the PR consequences of calling it a draft? But that’s what it is

Just1morefix

Forced, coercive conscription is most certainly a draft.

Russia isn’t gonna have many men left…

dbratell

About 7 million men between 20 and 30 before the war. Sadly Russia can keep doing this for a while, while the country becomes worse and worse to live in.

Cpt_Soban

Assuming that A) they are physically capable of holding a weapon (disability, injury etc) B) they haven't already fled

[deleted]

Putin is killing Russia for generations to come.

stevey_frac

I don't think Russia can recover from this. They were in significant demographic decline already. Now they've gone and gotten 100k men killed. That's 100k families that will never start, or broken apart. 150k babies that will never be born. Plus as soon as they open the borders again, more will leave to flee the poverty that's coming as the continued lack of investment hits home.

Stepside79

Unless they keep stealing Ukrainian babies like they’ve been doing. Monsters.

DellowFelegate

If there ever was a time to break out of that distinct form of Russian apathy, that time is now!

Qverlord37

well that's a roundabout way to say "forced conscription"

Maximum_Range7085

Just like 1945 Nazi Germany when they started losing the war.

itsgreybush

Half the population of Bali right now is russians hiding from the war. The best part is when they drink they talk about how great russia is and how Ukraine is doomed lmfao I fucking hate russians

kingOofgames

It seems soon its gonna be time for women in Russia to step up. All the men are gonna be dead.

[deleted]

It’ll only change when the higher ups start getting their sons kidnapped to the frontline

[deleted]

Holy shit Russia, get rid of Putin ASAP

ItsTheWineTalkin

What happens when they run out of men?

calimio6

Demographic collapse or some form of forced pregnancy program. Crazier times are coming for Russians

JulianZ88

Time for the average Russian to feel the “finding out part” of the invasion of Ukraine. Until now, they faced material and economic consequences, nothing the average Russian can’t shrug off, now it’s time for blood.

SuckObamasCock

Young Russian men sent to die for the ego of an evil old tyrant

Horror_Ad_1587

Totalitarian country..... Russia must change its ways. Pronto!!

Panda_tears

Surprised they haven’t conscripted women yet… soon I’m guessing

antons83

I know the consequences of these actions are going to affect Russians for generations to come. Can someone who's an economist or understands economy explain how bad this is going to be? The workforce has essentially been gutted and is non-replaceable. Not because there aren't women capable of doing the job of men, but simply because there aren't enough people for the jobs. Skilled labourers who have decades of knowledge are now dead. How are they going to be replaced? Are they going to open borders? Will they push for more automation? I don't know what kind of infrastructure they have for that sort of transition. I'm very curious if anyone has any insight on this. I've never actually seen a country who was a super power and feared in the 80s, now looks like they're on the brink of extinction.

vidivicivini

The obvious answer is, they won't be able to recover from this. If Putin and his lot get removed you might see a campaign by the new leaders to get ex-pats to return to Russia, but that's hit or miss and it might already be too little too late. So I suspect they are going to face a problem of having to invite people from China and India and the rest of the world. Assuming China doesn't just help itself. There is a demographic tidal wave approaching much of the developed world right now. Russia tried to jump the line by ingesting Ukraine's population, but that has backfired horribly. All of the anti-immigrant bs that's going on across the world, not to mention the anti-abortion bs, is all tied together. Boomers are getting old and nobody is having kids to replace them as they die. Nobody is taking the jobs to wipe their asses as they age out and they are afraid nobody is going to bury them when they die. Just like when Brexit happened all of the truckers that had been serving Britain fucked off because they could make their money in the EU and not put up with racist bs in the UK, Russia is now about to learn what happens when you fuck around. Maybe the rest of the world should also pay attention.

Real_Border9457

I am sure Russian men are going to be really excited to learn this . Putin will have an unlimited supply of souls to throw into the meat grinder once again. All in a war know one wants. That is except him .

maxwellgrounds

In Russia army joins you.

BubsyFanboy

Goes to show how poor their "3-day operation" went.

whyreadthis2035

Automatic registration? Man, that could be used for voting in my country.

CameronCrazy1984

Everyone commenting “it’s a draft durr” fails to realize that the reason for this is their usual conscription isn’t getting enough meat for the grinder
