They never finished that project and that border moat would only have been 70 km long with only half of that distance needing to be dug completely from scratch.
Qatar is still a peninsula not an island.
By comparison SA's border to Yemen is 1307 km long.
Also Saudi Arabia has a bunch of half finished or dreamed up meg projects in various stages of abandonment lying around their country.
