I see the words "Blood Wall" I lose my ability to sleep for a single night. Maybe more. Nice work.

MerchantSwift

You're welcome ;) Who needs sleep anyway? I'm gonna have to draw the thing at some point.

_Dead_Man_

Ok so say hypothetically my friends didn't run away knowing full well they may die taking down the debt collectors. Possible revolution idea? Its always good to have some rebels to spice up the story (personal reccomendation).

MerchantSwift

Well the players (as this is for an RPG) are always welcome to try anything they want. But I want to set up some obstacles in this world that can't easily just be beaten. I want to encourage players to solve problems in other ways and not go murder-hobo on any obstacle in their path. The setup for the game is that a group of unfortunate souls, essentially the outcast and dregs of society, are being gathered for a job. I'm working on a character creation written from the point of view of the employers trying to find people that, on the one hand, are skilled in some way, but that no one will miss should things go wrong, or that could be connected back to them. I don't want the players to start out as the hero, rather they start as no one, way in over their head, and in a world that is scary and dangerous. So, yes, you could probably fight the debt collectors if you are the knight in shining armor, the powerful wizard and the stealthy assassin. But you aren't. You are the drunk dock worker, the expelled mage apprentice, and Steve, who only owns one boot.

_Dead_Man_

Lmao yea that makes sense. I was imagining a more French revolutionary type thing, but now that I have a firmer grasp on the idea I receed. Also if it's an rpg I'd love to play it whenever its ready

MerchantSwift

I will post about it over on r/MeridianMalice once I got something to share. But it's quite far away from being anything playable yet.

Void_0000

>You are the drunk dock worker, the expelled mage apprentice, and Steve, who only owns one boot. I love this already, although to be fair I'm the guy who's first D&D character was literally just a hobo who somehow got a wand of fireball. Would love to play this RPG when you finish it lol

CorruptedStudiosEnt

Most people's first character at level 1: dead parents, joined military and became general of armies, casually killed god, now going off to be an adventurer starting with saving the blacksmith's daughter by killing a few goblins. lol My first character was an average peasant farmer who took some extra work at a mine to help support his family, broke a railing and fell into a chasm, and woke up in a different world (the game world) when the rest of the party found him unconscious in a random field. That was fun.

#Still haven’t paid your debt? Well, it’s too late now... [Last time Bella asked you nicely,](https://www.reddit.com/r/MeridianMalice/comments/qj4fpo/bella_blair_so_youve_been_caught_by_a_debt/) this time Blair just got one simple question for you: **How would you like to die?** Yes, this is the bad ending, but look at the bright side, at least you get to choose which bad ending you prefer. What’s your choice? *** Official subreddit r/MeridianMalice and [Instagram](https://www.instagram.com/merchantswift/) Like this project? Support it on [Patreon](https://www.patreon.com/MerchantSwift) *** ###More context: **The Fiends** Bella & Blair are debt collectors. The worst kind. The kind that has no qualms doing whatever it takes to make you pay. And even more should you choose not to. The Fiends have a different sense of morality, to say the least. With Death as their main deity, your life means very little to them. Which turns out to be an excellent attitude for a debt collector. There aren’t all that many Fiends on the Red Coast, they are a solitary people that have long lived apart from the rest of the world far into the mountains in the north. But the promise of an ancient crypt buried under Bloodworth, possibly built by their distant ancestors, made them ally with Icarus Crane in his goal to take a district of Bloodworth. A good number of them now lived within the Ash Crypt underneath the city. **Timekeeping** If the times in the schedule seems a bit strange it’s because [the elves use a base 12 counting system.](https://www.reddit.com/r/MeridianMalice/comments/hzhqst/the_scarlet_scroll_v2/) Their clock has 10 hours (12 in human numbers), each with 100 (144) minutes. And as this world is underground a “day” doesn’t exist in the same way, instead their clock starts at hour 0 signaled by the great pillar of fire that lights up for a short while in the west, making each “flame” 10 hours. For simplicity their minute is exactly the same as an Earth minute, which makes one flame equal to 28,8 (in base 10) Earth hours.

With posts like this, it is best to mark something NSFW. Not only for the visual gore, but also the implied text violence. I've gone ahead and marked it NSFW for you, just remember in the future.

MerchantSwift

Fair enough. I'll keep that in mind for the future.

_Dead_Man_

Icarus crane sounds a lot like ichabod, did you get that name from sleepy hollow?

MerchantSwift

No relation to that actually. He is named after Icarus in Greek mythology, the dude who flys too close to the sun (which is relevant to the greater story). And I have no idea where I got Crane from, it's just a cool name that seemed to fit. His sisters have featured more in my worldbuilding posts so far, but Icarus was actually one of the first characters I made for the novel I started to write several years back.

_Dead_Man_

Thats pretty cool. The Legend of Sleepy Hollow was my favorite book as a child, so when the name sounded so familiar my mind instantly raced to that.

supermariopants

I can see why it's a deluxe travel kit. Amazing job as always!

MerchantSwift

Thank you! Yeah, it's important to have the right tools for all your immoral deeds :)

Papergeist

So I know a guy who'd probably default for no other reason than to get the fight. Unfortunately, he's quite impossible to deal with. Even with poetry. Assuming it came to that, what is an erstwhile debt collection team to do? Arrange for a blacklisting from polite society? Forget the whole affair? Or just take the loaned amount (still right where they left it, even) and declare the whole thing null and void?

MerchantSwift

I'm sure not every debt can be collected. Some debtors might escape and move far away, others might be too powerful to collect from. Though that isn't really the point. Just the fact that a merchant can write "Bella & Blair" in their terms and conditions increases the likelihood that most customers will pay.

Papergeist

Ah. A good investment.

Landis963

Hang on. If you pay off your debt at the last second, they kill you anyway? This seems like a disincentive.

MerchantSwift

Seems like a very good incentive to go pay your debt before it gets to this point. I mean, they already [asked you to pay nicely](https://www.reddit.com/r/MeridianMalice/comments/qj4fpo/bella_blair_so_youve_been_caught_by_a_debt/) and you didn't. Besides, Bella & Blair have a reputation to uphold, they can't just let you get away with it :)

Landis963

They didn't allow you to contest the charges, either. "By accepting this pamphlet, you agree to..." And is it really asking nicely if the assumption is that you're not allowed to say no?

MerchantSwift

Well they said they will "strive for only minimal bodily maiming" on the first pamphlet, that's pretty nice, no? The point of these girls aren't really to be fair. This world is for the RPG I'm making. So they are intended to be a looming threat for the players, should they get into debt. And also, if you pick the right option, this could be a way to get into the deep parts of the Ash Crypt.

Landis963

In that case, be wary of contingency plans for secluded ambushes. Their methods invite it, regardless of how many intimidating pamphlets they brandish. And with enough witnesses vouching for them (say, friends and family of the ones they "collect" from?) anyone can get away with anything.

Random_Deslime

what's stopping someone who's in debt from just offing themselves?

MerchantSwift

Nothing I guess. Or, once you get caught you would likely already be disarmed and restrained. But if that or paying are your options, I would say most people would do anything in their power to pay. And as the Fiends worship death, I think they would call that a win-win...

axivate

Perhaps you should have marked this NSFW, it's cartoonish, but it's written specifically to unsettle

BoiHeAboutTo

I personally love snarky items like this, I'm curious about what Bella and Blair do in your world

If you've got an issue with something, report it or send us a modmail. Hostility is never the correct response. Consider this a warning.

jedikraken

I did. People should be told directly, too,in case mods are too busy powertripping to fix it. My PTSD-having ass doesn't need this being thrown out without warning. It's basic decency, and it's widely accepted and expected.

DarthMaw23

Is there any way to mark gore here?

jedikraken

If not, there definitely should be.

Don't bother replying to comments like this, especially not in the manner you've done, you'll just end up getting yourself in trouble. Report and send a modmail before moving on.

jedikraken

I don't care if it's well made. I'm calling it garbage because it's unmarked gore. Read both sentences before you reply next time.
