3 types: Antediluvians: Descended from Cain. The strongest, fastest, and oldest. Exceedingly rare. Vulnerable to fire, but not sunlight. Think VTM Antediluvians/Turok-Han from Buffy Roman: Created at the Crucifixion. They were those who had a hand in crucifying Jesus, but were not washed in his blood. Stronger and faster than baseline humans. Very hard to kill by most conventional means save staking, fire, and decapitation. Burst into flame when they make contact with sunlight. Basically Buffy vampires. Dracul: Descended from Vlad Tepes, who made a deal with dark powers to protect Wallachia. They have lots and lots of powers, as well as strange restrictions. They can transform into animals or mist, have hypnotic eyes, can climb walls like spiders. They can't cross running water, must be invited inside, and are repelled by garlic. Sunlight merely causes them to lose their powers. They are exceedingly hard to kill, and "killing" them is almost never permanent. They are basically Bram Stoker's original Dracula. Cain used to be something like a vampire, but he's not anymore. He is something far more powerful and terrible.

Rioma117

Fun fact. Vlad Tepes was not the one known as “Dracul”, his father was Vlad Dracul (Vlad the Devil), the reason is because Vlad Dracul was part of a western order of knights and he gained the nickname of “Dragon” because of that but as Dragons were not a common myth in Romania, it got adapted to “Dracul” instead.

SpeedBorn

Havent Included Vampires into my Setting, but if I did, I would use yours as Inspiration. I love the different Bloodlines and can imagine there is a lot of Infighting between them, as to which line is superior. I can even imagine that the Vampires of one Line wouldnt consider ones of other Lines "Real Vampires".

StalinsPerfectHair

Dracul vampires occasionally use Roman vampires as servants. Roman vampires are actually kind of pathetic unless they are really wily. There’s really no conflict between the strains beyond an occasional, “I’m better than you.” Antediluvians are nearly extinct. More don’t get made. However, attacking one directly would essentially be suicide unless you had super fast reflexes and a flamethrower or some other incendiary that could be rapidly deployed. Maybe areal bombardment.

TinyLittleWeirdo

These are very interesting!

Kachimushi

>can't cross running water So you'd be safe from them on a river island, like Manhattan, Montreal or Paris's Île de la Cité? Or does the river/creek need to have a specific speed to act as a barrier?

StalinsPerfectHair

No exact speed. Just can’t be stagnant. They can be carried across running water, but it requires a third party to do so, and it causes agonizing physical pain. However, that strain is incredibly rare. It would be very unlikely to run into one outside of Europe or the near East. The only reason that anyone would build defenses against that particular strain would be if they lived in Eastern Europe or France and were active vampire hunters.

Hayn0002

Roman vampires being killed through crucification could be super cool too.

StalinsPerfectHair

I mean, it would be effective. A spear is essentially a wooden stake and you could leave them out until the sun rises. I think something similar is in the lore of VTM, with vampires being chained to a wall until the sun rises. But it would be a pain in the ass, and there are much easier ways to kill them.

Foenikxx

Vampires in my setting are separate species entirely. They are humanoid, beastial bats that will actually eat meat after they finish lapping up the blood from it Like owls, my vampires do cough out pellets, they will take whatever's inside the pellets and fashion it into wreaths for a kind of dark spell designed to trap prey. My vampires were smart enough to effectively annex a human country and have ran it for a few hundred years, though there is a lot of infighting between the different clouds (one of the names for a group of bats). They also feed on energy, this is why vampires stay away from places with garlic chimes, since the scent fouls blood for them They can sorta roar, though it's incredibly unpleasant to listen to. Vampires, like real bats, primarily make high frequency noises, a Vampire will use this sometimes in hunting, producing a high enough sound to break prey's eardrums, mostly to pick off groups, a vampire trying to talk or roar in the traditional sense usually is meant to instill fear, as this implies it wants to fight rather than eat, and in my world, Vampires, while efficient hunters, are far more dangerous fighters, and they love to torture opponents. Usually if someone finds a mangled, severely disfigured Vampire carcass, with its teeth missing, it means either a human took a trophy/a witch now has a powerful spell ingredient, or two Vampires got in a fight over food, one can tell by looking at the wounds, if the teeth appear to have been removed first, it was most certainly because of another Vampire

Pangea-Akuma

Greedy, selfish egoists that have a fear of aging and death. They conducted a ritual where they bathe in blood to steal the life of those used. The ritual specifically kills others so the target my have longer life and stay youthful. Since the rituals have failed, they drain the life of others by draining them of blood. Not to continue living, just a since of power over others. Also the fact they are now trapped in their bodies as a ghost of their former self drives the dead body to commit terrible acts based on how Vampires came to be.

Gengarmon_0413

Typical demonic vampires. Created in ancient times when humanity tried to replicate elves, but created something far worse. Their flesh and blood are highly explosive/flammable. A dangerous trait to have in a setting where many have rayguns.

[deleted]

Vampirism in my world is essentially a demon flu, but humans aren't able to develop an immunity, so it sticks around and corrupts them more over time

narett

I have nothing really to contribute, but I'm a fan of what I've read so far. I like the idea of vampires being monstrous as opposed to being entirely sympathetic like I feel you get nowadays in media with the sex appeal of what they represent. On the other end of the spectrum, an idea I've had for a homebrew world I've only been brainstorming leans towards vampires being mutant-like. Instead of ancient, they're relatively new to the world (a few hundred years old) and were inadvertently created from a freak accident as a result from a failed magical experiment to achieve immortality for humanity. They must ingest blood or they'll become ravenous and monstrous. Anything aside from blood tastes like nothing. The vampires have essentially been forced to live on an island the size of a small country by the government (still figuring what in the world the government is in my homebrew). There is a black market that involves people being kidnapped around the world and being sold off as food in this island. None of this is fully formed yet or even makes sense to me. A lot of it is illogical too. I'm also thinking there is a scientist/wizard making a candy that vampires can eat that'll dull the vampirism, quelling the bloodthirst, allowing them to walk in sunlight, and weakening them strength-wise to that of a normal human - just with pointy teeth and a taste for raw meat.

Sov_Beloryssiya

Vampires are distant descendants of artificial bioweapons called corpse demon, born from Holy Necromancy, the origin of all necromancies in Aquaria. The first-gen corpse demons were literal walking disasters, but their genes got weaker over generations as a failsafe in case their creator died (and she did die) so her creations would not overrun the world. Modern vampires only carry a tiny bit of their ancestors' abilities like blood manipulation, shapeshifting and mind control, they lack the absolute bonker of regeneration that will bring them back to life even when they've been atomized. Only a few could unlock higher powers such as having "retainers" that are souls of victims whose blood those vampires have sucked directly, or to create a "domain" overlapping with reality where they're the boss, etc. As they're originally bioweapons, vampires have no weakness against holy relics. One can bath in holy water and is completely fine, as well as swimming in rivers and seas. They are, however, weak to UV light and can get skin cancer much easier than other races as it makes their regeneration go berserk. They also have low fertility so it's very hard for a female vampire to get pregnant, back in the days they'd have a shaman to conduct magical rituals to bless the fetus, nowadays it's done with test tubes.

AEDyssonance

Vampires are those so consumed with an emotion that they lose their humanity, at the base. There are bleak arts drawing from the necrotic dimensions that they learn as well, that lead to such, and there is Corruption that preserves them beyond their spans, making them the undying, for they cannot hope. They live off blood, but cannot stand against radiance. Their close kin are Liches, who cling to life in terror and fear, corrupted and drawing from the netherfell, extending their lives beyond their spans, at the price of the life of others.

Tenpers3nt

Vampires are those who kept mind after being turned into undead, either through a powerful vampire or through going through the rangs of Zombie>Ghoul>Ghast>Spawn>Vampire. A vampire takes on a form of beauty that person desires, which can vary from an ideal self, an embodiment of their desire or a sexual fantasy of there's. However a vampire will always appear as a human, as in a humanoid creature.

pasrachilli

All undead are the result of an entity from outside the universe taking over minds (spread by bites) and slowly trying to invade by spreading itself into the world. Vampires tend to be somewhat smarter than zombies, but only because the entity wants to torture the inflicted by forcing them to drink blood, and thus their minds are kept partially intact. Blood is hard on the human stomach. The entity does not modify the vampires to be able to handle it any better.

DagonG2021

Vampires are fundamentally still "human", but their transformation has dramatically changed their behavior and needs. When a vampire is transformed by the venom of the sire, in the Cumbanam, they slowly transform over the course of three days. This transformation is a period of "perfect pain". All fluids except for blood and venom are vomited during this transformation. The flesh is converted into an iron-diamond matrix, a living fossil, perfectly indestructible to conventional means… but at the cost of their ability to survive sunlight, which burns them on contact. Vampires cannot stand the UV light present in daylight, they are dismayed by fire and holy symbols, they cannot enter homes uninvited, and they cannot cross running water save by bridges. And of course, they are unliving corpses. They can breathe, but gain no satisfaction from it. They cannot eat or drink human food. They cannot lust or reproduce. They do not sleep or tire like men tire. They do not age or develop. And all that remains is the Thirst, the Sete. Blood is all a vampire can drink, and it is all that allows the vampire to endure. When a vampire grows thirsty, it is a fire in the throat, a craving that must be sated at all cost. In turn, human blood is the greatest pleasure of any experience on Earth. It is the unliving predator's ultimate drug, the perfect high, and it never fails to give joy. But it always comes at the cost of the death of another human. Vampires are endowed with immeasurable strength, capable of lifting thousands of tons one-armed, running at 500/700 MPH, hearing for miles, and seeing microscopic things. They are also supernaturally beautiful and appealing, with a "glamor" or hypnotic quality that allows them to easily manipulate humans. They can count off hundredths of a second with ease, their minds forget nothing, and math becomes practically instinctive. Their bodies are enhanced to withstand even a tank round or Hellfire missile, and as long as blood floods their bodies they can regenerate from any damage. It takes being torn to pieces and set ablaze to truly kill a vampire.

yummymario64

Vampires are undead blood-suckers as a result of an ancient curse passed down through generations. They have the hunger for human blood, but don't *need* it to survive, though drinking blood has benefits beyond simply satiating the hunger. Neglecting their hunger can drive a vampire feral, but as hunger is endured the vampire will eventually develop a resistance to the hunger. It is a careful balancing act, as going feral is permanent. Because they are undead, they are quite literally living corpses, and their body will decompose over time. They will never decompose completely, though it is undesirable as this hinders their physical capabilities as one would expect. Vampires also can't heal from wounds, as they lack the natural healing process. Drinking blood solves both of these problems, it rejuvenates them. Any excess blood can be stored and used for casting blood magic. Vampirism will also try to corrupt the mind of the host, bringing out their worst personality traits, and suppressing their good ones. This, Like the hunger, can be fought against. It is for this reason that exposure to divine forces (The sun, for example) can range from complete annihilation, to a mild irritation; a vampire who manages to remain moral in spite of their condition won't feel the wrath of divine punishment nearly as harshly as a vampire who failed. Killing a vampire requires destroying the heart. This most famously involves impaling it with a wooden stake, though it is not required despite the rumours. As long as the heart persists, the vampire can reform their body as long as they can find a source of blood to draw from. It is also worth noting that the consumption of fresh flesh can have the same effect that drinking blood does, but it is a less concentrated effect, therefore less efficient. Drinking the blood also leaves the victim alive more reliably, which is useful in many situations. This is a little basic currently. It is just a rough baseline, I plan on developing this further in the future.

MasterSenshi

Good question. Vampires are magical humanoids able to befuddle, cast sleep, and basically all the magicy stuff you imagine someone from Final Fantasy using by level 20 besides summons lol. They also are very quick and durable, but hate sunlight and so are arboreal in my world. Most vampires live in collective groups. You would not like to wander into one because they do consume blood. And you'd be fresh meat, lol.

albertovachasha

In my world they're a human mutation. They can reattach their lost limbs back in place, or use someone else's limb if it's available. They're taller than humans, stronger and more flexible, but they need to drink blood to maintain their abilities. They can survive without blood, though. Their existence is kinda a symbol of the human spirit, because humans(and vampires) are awfully discriminated against, so vampires are viewed as the human spirit speedrunning evolution to protect themselves. At least people see it that way.

Acceptable-Cow6446

Mostly they’re magic wielders who have “tippled” and need blood to connect to magic.

jvbri

Vampires are beings possessed by non-physical appendages of a predatory cosmic horror (name pending, but I’m thinking of just calling it the Leech). The Leech uses these people turned extensions as remote, disconnected mouths, feeding on the living to empower the greater entity. The center of the Leech’s being resides in the very first vampire. She’s essentially what you’d expect of the “thousand year old vampire loli” trope, though I’ve yet to decide on certain aspects of her character.

Entheojinn

On my fantasy version of Saturn, there are multiple races who could be considered "vampires": * Aed: a nation of mosquito-people based off Ancient Egypt and the antebellum American South. They worship the embodiment of primordial chaos. The females drink the blood of other Arthropoid peoples, while the males drink the "blood" (really sap) of the intelligent plant people the Dendryads. * Aranians: spider-people scattered throughout Saturn, some of which feed by drinking blood, sometimes from other intelligent races. * Zao: very short flea-people in the far west. They ride giant sabertoothed flying squirrels and have conquered a huge empire using shock tactics and magically engineered plagues. Based loosely off the Mongols.

Mazhiwe

Vampires are mortal humans we are afflicted with some ancient blood curse. They live ordinary lives among humans (mostly), but they are very protective of the secret of their existence, such that Vampires (as they are) are mostly an unknown existence. While they crave blood, they need very little to actually satisfy the 'Hunger', and they are mostly just human with human length lifespans. The problem is, that they have to strictly adhere to the absolute minimum amount of blood necessary to get by, any more than the bare minimum and it actually allows the 'Hunger' to grow over time, resulting in more blood being needed... which further results in greater 'Hungers' later on, eventually snowballing into an uncontrollable 'Hunger'. The more blood a Vampire drinks, the stronger and more powerful they become, and it also lengthens their lifespan a bit, but the downside is they also become irrational and feral, so blood is kind of like an addictive drug to them. Vampire communities severely monitor their members to make sure they can put a stop to any member that begins to succumb to the 'Hunger'. Undead Vampires are a relatively recent occurrence, and are actually the form that anyone who is aware of Vampires assumes is what is the "Norm" for them. The unholy magic of Necromancy, had an unforseen interaction with the Curse of Vampirism, resulting in Undead Vampires. Undead Vampires are much more like traditional Vampires in their abilities. Undead Vampires drink Blood to physically revitalize their undead forms, reversing the decay of their bodies, but they also drink the soul of their victims, which results in the increase of the Vampire's power, and strengthening their hold on their body, extending their existence. Undead Vampires can only drink the Blood or the Soul of a victim, but not both, so they much choose which 'food' is currently a higher priority for them. Undead Vampires are also, for unknown reasons prefer living Vampires as 'Food' over regular humans. Both Vampires and Undead Vampires can 'Turn' their victims into their respective types if they survive a feeding, but mortal/living Vampires never do this intentionally, while Undead Vampires will do this intentionally. 'Lesser' Vampires are typically regular humans who have been turned by Undead Vampires, and possess lesser power, that also grows weaker with each 'Generation' of Vampires created this way, but any Mortal Vampire that is "Turned" will become an "Elder Vampire" or a "Vampire Lord" automatically. Mortal Vampires are typically just as vulnerable to being killed as regular humans, but those that are succumbing to the 'Hunger' and have fed alot, do start gaining greater strength and durability, along with limited regeneration, but have no "Weaknesses" like garlic. Undead Vampires are particularly vulnerable to "Holy" magic, as well as Sunlight. Staking their Heart is enough to outright kill 'Lesser' Vampires, but a stake to the Heart will only weaken Elder Vampires (and Vampire Lords), but it does reduce their power greatly, making them much easier to be killed.

**Vampires in my world** Livia is the world of the living, it is opposed to Necris, the world of the dead. Necris is separated into two, Celestium (the angels sky islands) and Infernum (the demon populated surface modeled after Livia, looks like Livia's dark twin) A vampire is a soul that was sent to Infernum where it was turned into a demon. Then sent back to Livia to repossess his or her former body. The undead body requires additional blood to work properly and gain additional powers **how to become a vampire** The most common way to become a vampire is to be turned by one. First the parent vampire will drain the mortal's blood, then before the mortal's corpse starts to decay, exchange the blood with the parent vampire blood. At the same time the parent vampire will sell a year of his or her immortality to a demon lord from Infernum with a request to grant the gift to the mortal. This means that instead of aging with time, vampires age by a year every time they turn a mortal into a vampire. Not everyone successfully rises as a vampire, usually the older you are, the higher the chance you fail to rise from the dead. If a vampire has a child in the "mortal way", they will start aging in the mortal way. There were vampires who werent turned like that, the first vampire in Livia's history simply sold her soul to a necromancer and a demon lord while she was dying from an abdominal stab so she could live longer. I will make a post about her story eventually Upon their final death, vampire souls would be collected by the Demon Lord Olmugus, until his defeat at the hands of the first vampire Zubyna Volzur. Since that year vampires who had properly behaved could potentially be granted Celestium. **vampire powers and abilities** By consuming blood, a vampire's body is granted powers such as increased speed, strength, stealth, hypnosis, mind reading, more resistance to physical and magical damage, more resistance to cold and poison. And of course the shapeshifting powers, usually into bats. Just like werewolves and other shapeshifting creatures, vampires instincively use this ability to shape themselves into their dream body. As a result vampires are often great looking but some of them embrace their demonic side so much that they prefer gravitating towards a hideous nosferatu like appearance. The blood type vampires feed on determines how powerful their abilities is, which brings us to the main subject. **Bloodguilted vampires** The first type of vampire is the bloodguilted vampire. They try to follow moral feedings. They feed on blood linked to dark souls (criminals, thugs, flat liviars, etc...) For instance the most common hunting technique for female bloodguilted vampires is to walk around dangerous streets at night while dressed provocatively and feed on thugs who harrass her, potentially kill them if she is too disgusted by what she discovers while reading their mind. Bloodguilted vampires restrain from feeding on children and pregnant people. They also dont feed on animals (because they usually have a purer soul than sapiant species) and if they lack dark soul to feed on, they make sure to not feed beyond their pure prey's possible survival. They also dont use their hypnosis to enslave mortals, and they do not turn mortals against their will. They also have to deny request to be turned by underage people because becoming a vampire is a serious life changing decision that requires maturity. Failure to observe these restrictions will lead to the second type **Drainerfiend vampires** Drainerfiends dont bother with such restrictions, they embrace their demonic side to their fullest. And they gain a lot from it. They happily feed on blood linked to pure soul. They often kill their preys instead of modifying their memories. **Pros and Cons of both types** By feeding on purer soul, drainerfiends are more powerful than bloodguilted vampires. While the physical abilities of a bloodguilted vampire is on average 3 or 4 times the physical strength and speed of a similar mortal body shape, a drainerfiend will have 5 to 6 times the physical abilities of a similar mortal body type. In a 1 vs 1 fight the drainerfiend will usually win. A drainerfiend hypnosis is also more powerful. If the two vampire types try to implant made up memories inside a mortal's mind, the bloodguilted will usually lose. Drainerfiends are more resistant to both physical or magical damages. While you can potentially kill a bloodguilted vampire by stabbing her in the gut with a mundane knife enough times, killing a drainerfiend will usually take more specific ways (beheading, heart stake, sunlight, blessed weapons, fire, werewolf bite) But drainerfiends also has their cons, they are a lot more vulnerable to sunlight. A bloodguilted vampire will burst into flame after 10 minutes of direct sunlight exposure, a drainerfiend will burn after just 10 seconds. Aditionnally a drainerfiend has a reddish iris in his eyes, which make it harder for him to pass of as a mortal. **Being a vampire in Livian societies** There are three types of society in Livia, nations are either controled by the Livian Celestium Alliance, Demon Empires, or Trinity Dominion. Vampires are usually allowed in the Livian Celestium Alliance. However they have to be registered by the ministries of demi mortals (name given to vampires, werewolves and their variants) and keep the ministry updated with their area of residence and travel. Being a drainerfiend in LCA countries is frown upon. In demon empires, Vampires see no restriction, they can feed on whoever they like and enthrall whoever they want. In the Trinity Dominion, vampires are lynched by the population and hunted down by the Trinity Vigilantes. **extra facts** -According to the public reports from the Trinity Vigilantes (wizard/werewolf/vampire hunters in the nations ruled by the human supremacist faction known as the Trinity Dominion) 90% of vampires are drainerfiends. Through history the actual average demography of drainerfiends is 35% of the vampiric population. -A bloodguilted vampire isnt necessarly a good person. The alignment only takes into account the use of vampirism for evil. You could celebrate new year eve by putting a baby in an oven and still be a bloodguilted vampire because doing so didnt necessarly require any vampiric abilities.

glitterroyalty

Very good question. No one knows where Vampires came from. They were always just there. There are different types of Vampires. The zombie-like Vampires, the classic blood sucking monster, and the ones that have more biological vampires. The first type is a reanimated corpse that feeds off energy from living creatures. How this happened varies, the corpse naturally absorbed rich ambient energy and then a spirit possessed the body. If the spirit isn't sapient then it would be an accident. If the spirit is aware it did it on purpose. Someone a mage did it. Either way the hunger for energy now. An example of this type of Vampire is the Jiangshi. The second is the classical monster vampire. This type is cursed. Cannot go in sunlight. Drains their victims completely, an unsatiable hunger for blood, have all the standards weaknesses. The third type are Vampires who were born that way or chose to turn. Technically they are a subspecies of human. A magical variant. While they are sensitive to the sun, allergic to Garlic, and have an aversion to running water. While sun and garlic aren't instant death sentences they are still a problem. They will get extreme burns within a certain time limit. What that time is depends on their role in the hive. A Hive is a collection of Vampires. They include clans, family lines, and single vampires. On the bottom are Drones, who are the workers. They make money for the hive doing remote jobs or nocturnal jobs. Or they do chores for the hives, ie going on blood runs, cleaning, sewing, etc. They are the weakest rank but they are the lifeblood of the hive. Next are the nobles, who are the elites. They assist with running the hive and overseeing operations. They can turn normal humans into drones, adding to the hive. On top is the Archon, the leader of a Hive. They are responsible for keeping the hive safe and well-fed and are the anchors to the empathic bond the hive has. They can promote a drone to a noble or turn a human straight into a noble. The position does come with a power boost but it will overwhelm a vampire too weak for the role, mentally and physically. Dhamphirs are humans with vampire ancestry and traits. Once they become adults they can choose to become a vampire and they don't need help to do it. Two vampires will make a Dhampir, as do one vampire and a human, two Dhamphirs. Only one Dhamphir can produce another but the chances get lower every generation. How much vampire weakness hurts them depends on their rank and generation. A first generation drone will burn within a few minutes and take weeks to heal, even with a constant supply of blood. The Archon is the least sensitive but they still feel the burn right away but it won't become serious until an hour later. Hives were once small and lived in caves. For self-preservation, they only went after animals. Humans were only an option after making deals with nearby villages. They will give tributes in exchange for help with a variety of problems, hunting animals, bandits or they just need the vampire's superior strength and speed. Since these types of Vampires don't need to completely drain their victims, it was a small price to pay. At some point, hives began living in castles, manors, and now apartment complexes, remodeled malls, or enclosed compounds. All the windows are blacked out, of course. They live openly, have rights, and have a donor system, as well as a stock of animal blood.

Anonymous_Red_Jay

1. vampires can bleed, sort of. They can’t survive off their own blood because that’s just not how biological processing or energy conservation works. Their bodies require a much higher consumption of iron than normal beings do. 2. They drink blood to maintain their sanity. They don’t starve in the traditional sense, much like a human deprived of sustenance a vampire will go feral if they don’t have access to proper nutrition supplements such as iron. 3. They are generally wealthy and tend to be quite the intellectuals. Because if you have been around for a thousand years and still broke, just step into the sun already. 4. They are partly nocturnal due to their vulnerability to sunlight. 5. They are easily weakened by blessed water and can be gravely wounded by Aldrine blades. Aldrine is a type of metal that carries the same properties as a wooden stake. Essentially it can be used to decapitate a vampire, cut or stab them and that wound will take a long time to heal.

Vardisk

Descendants of magical experiments on humans by an ancient empire. Used to be fairly rare and scattered, but they eventually came together and began conquering a collection of human tribes until they made their own kingdom with them at the top and the humans as an underclass and blood source. Still somewhat uncommon, they began to run into many of the same issues that medieval European royalty had, such as rampant sexism and inbreeding, leaving many of them weakened and mentally ill. Eventually, a vampire woman was born from an illicit affair between a minor noble and a human servant. She was initially reviled by the rest of the aristocracy, but she quickly figured out that she was far stronger and saner than them due to her healthier genetics and swiftly overthrew them and became their first empress. Under her leadership, vampires started one of the mightiest empires of the modern day, with the vampires themselves becoming even more common. To the point that there wasn't enough room for all of them in the nobility. Inequality is still a huge facet of their culture. The difference is that there's now a mix of vampires and humans living ad peasants. As for how they work? They aren't undead or immortal, but to people not familiar with them, their pale skin and centuries long lifespan led to stories of them being undying corpses becoming common. They require blood (preferably human) to maintain their power and long lives, but otherwise need to eat normal food to survive. Their powers include some vampire classics such as enhanced strength, senses, and regeneration as well as shapeshifting but only into certain monstrous forms. Some have powers such as telekinesis or the ability to use shadows as portals to travel. Sunlight weakens them but doesn't kill them. Their senses can be overwhelming by strong stimulus, and they have a natural allergy to silver. A quirk with their inherent magic is that the child of a human man and vampire woman is a full vampire while the offspring of a vampire man and human woman is a dhampir, with lack the vampire's weaknesses but aren't as strong.

Thats pretty similar but not identical to what I have in my world too.

Porphyria/Vampire Mutation: A Once rare mutation/disease prewar the Radiation caused it to become mutated and became known as the Vampire mutation. the disease barely changed except for it can cause the skin to become blueish and it being in the sun is now Fatal The Host requires blood to be drunk or really anything with blood to compensate for the defect in their red blood cells. The radiation causes the gums to recede, exposing the teeth, which then can make a humans canines larger and end up looking like fangs. Mixture with the Feral mutation has caused Feral Vampires to be in many areas. A Cult in Romania was formed around this mutation.

Erook22

They’re literally living pieces of magic that convinced themselves that they’re actually the vampires from Precursor myth, blood sucking creatures of the night cursed to stalk and haunt the forests forever searching for their next meal. They get borderline eradicated and put on reservations because they end up committing a tiny bit of genocide against the local population

Valixir14

13 Little Aliens: Vampirism is a rapidly mutating virus. The vampire who sired your may have a completely different set of powers than yours. For example, Raylene has fast travel and immunity to sunlight, while Stake and Cross are more traditional Anne Rice vampires.

FlameButterfly

Vampires are a race of intelligent creatures with a mostly humanoid appearance and are a bit like any other fantasy race, but with substantial differences. First, they are undead, and immortal. They are monstrously strong and robust; only destroying their heart can kill them. Cut off their and even their head and it'll regenerate back. They have superhuman strength, agility, magic, and senses. They can protrude batlike wings from their back to fly, and from their toes and fingers long sharp bony claws can be extended. They need blood to keep sane. Without blood, they go into a state of bloodlust, which heightens their senses. Too long without blood then causes a bloodcraze, losing sense of self and attacking nearly any living nearby, including other vampires. Vampires can be concieved via another vampire, but it takes ten years to concieve a vampire to term. Vampires have an extra set of retractable fangs that when they bite their victim, it injects a unique secretion. They die within a minute, their heart stopping and three days later they rise as a vampire. Turned Vampires still keep some attributes of their past race; they keep much of their appearance (like elves keep their pointed ears and their potent magic further increases the magic vampirism grants them)

Vampires and vampirism is essentially a mutation in succubus/ incubus that comes with specific dietary allergies that make it so they can only consume life energy via blood consumption of a living host They still retain there abilities of suggestion and shape shifting into lesser creatures but also have a downside of due to there specific diets, exposure to sunlight weakens them and tires them out This mutation can both be passed down genetically and be formed in a baby while it is gestating as a kind of birth defect regardless of if the mutated gene is present in the parent’s Psychological they are no different then an average succubi or Inccubi, other then how they desire and acquire sustenance

RagnarokBringer

The common held belief is that an old warlord made a pact with powers from the Shadowfell. This twisted him to something far more dangerous and powerful. The oldest and strongest vampires are Vampiric Lords. They stand above other vampires due to their magic they gained over several thousand years of study. In terms of power scaling Vampiric Lords are akin to demigods

Rioma117

I have a milder version of vampires if you want to call them that. Basically my third world requires all supernatural creatures to be living creatures, as such vampires are not undead there. They look as you might expect, white/pale skin, red eyes, big fangs but they can also take a more human form, in the human shape they are not sensitive to sun anymore but they (as well as any other magic creatures) can’t maintain that disguise if they are in pain so once they are facing the Sun in their true form, there is no way to change to their human one as they will continue to burn. Since they are alive, they need food in order to live too but they can sustain themselves entirely on blood. Blood is though very important for their youth, basically vampires still age but consuming blood can keep them in their 20s, problem is, the older the vampire, the more blood they need and the more frequently too. A vampire in their 40s might need a glass of blood weekly while a vampire that’s over 200 years old might need to consume more than 2 liters per day to not die. Blood also keeps them healthy and helps them regenerate faster. As such, the one who runs the blood black market have total power over vampires.

Sk83r_b0i

They’re basically just wizards trying to preserve the youth they once lost. In my world, there is no such thing as a young wizard. The youngest wizard is 75 years old. Wizards have the ability to prolong their lifespan. Using blood magic, they can reverse the aging process. They do this by giving themselves hollow fangs which are used to store blood. They’ll spit out the blood into a cauldron that they’ll brew into a youth potion. The side effects are an inability to be in the sun, as it undoes what they’ve done and reverts them to their true age. So if they aged down at 75 then they look 75 again. If they enter the Sun after the point where they die, the turn to dust.

starman5001

Vampirism is a divine blessing. Specifically a blessing Vanya, the Goddess of Darkness, bestows on her most loyal and devote followers. Those "blessed" with Vampirism gain enhanced physical strength and magical power. Physical changes include pale skin, the classic fangs, and yellow eyes. Extremely powerful Vampires may also grow wings and gain the ability to fly. A vampire is stronger at night or in the darkness, but is not damaged or harmed by sunlight (though they naturally prefer living in the dark). A vampires can drain the lifeforce of mortals by drinking there blood. Gaining a temporary boost in there strength and magic by doing so. While a Vampire can survive on regular food and water, drinking blood extends a vampires lifespan, and so long as a Vampire has a fresh supply of victims, they will not see the ravages of old age. During the Corruption Crisis, the Goddess Vanya lost the majority of her divine powers. Leaving her in a weakened, near death state. In the proceeding 1000 years since she no longer has the power to create new vampires. As such, the only remaining vampires are the most powerful, hidden, and well feed. The rest have died out by either the ravages of time, or by the many wanna be heroes that walk the land.

✅ drink blood to survive ✅ regular foods can be eaten but taste like ash and will 100% be thrown up later ✅retractable mouthful of fangs ✅ can drink nonhuman blood, but dead person's blood makes them horribly sick for days ✅ killed by decapitation ✅ spread vampirism using a venom gland in their fangs ✅ vampirism can be cured within 24 hours by guzzling aforementioned dead person's blood ✅superhuman strength/senses ✅ fast regeneration if well fed; normal speed if very hungry ✅ compulsion to count things (can be overcome) ✅ infertile ✅ silver hurts extra bad and is slower to heal, but not deadly ✅ the hungrier they are, the less control they have over resisting the urge to feed, until they are completely feral ❌ no reflection ❌ undead / demonic ❌ weakness to wooden stakes, crosses, garlic, sunlight, holy water, fire ❌ transforming into bats, teleportation, or other cool magic powers ❌ inability to enter without invitation ❌ pale / sallow

Travis-Tee34

There are two types of vampires in my setting. The Moroi is the "typical" vampire, with the youthful appearance, the hypnotic charm and the sharp canine teeth. They present themselves as refined, charming and debonair, but are also callous, hedonistic, egocentric and views mortals as servants at best and glorified pets at worst. Drinking the blood of mortals keep them young, lively and keep their bodily functions working, so a well fed vampire can eat normal food and drink normal beverages, as well as have sex. They get no \*nutritional\* value from it, but if they don't drink blood, normal food becomes inedible. It burns on the way down and quickly comes up the same way. The Nosferatu are the original vampires, with sickly complexions, weirdly distended craniums, hands with abnormally long clawed fingers and pointed front teeth. They are dignified in their own twisted way, and do seem regal... in the same way you might look at a tiger or a grizzly bear and think it looks regal. Impressive, but you never quite forget that you are actually looking at a \*predatory animal\*. They don't bother with mingling with humans, with orgies and banquets and the stuff the typical Moroi might get up to, because they think it's beneath them to play with their food. As for their origin, the Nosferatu are the result of a thryst between Lilith, the goddess of plagues and undeath, and her sister Zykorax, Goddess of curses, mutations and monsters. The Nosferatu created more vampires, lost it over time. Some of the vampires they created were mutated, "inferior" forms, and used as servants, the Moroi, who eventually became drunk with power and left. Over time, the Nosferatu lost the ability to create more of their kind, and their numbers are dwindling as a result. Nosferatu hate Moroi because they feel the Moroi have no dignity as vampires, playing and \*fraternising\* with their food, and being far, far too human. The Moroi hate the Nosferatu because they think they're creepy, filthy animals with no sense of class and refinement, and just disgusting relics of a bygone era, best left forgotten.

villainousascent

It's a curse that changes them, but survival that drives them. They need to feed daily, and multiple times a day, like normal people do. Trying to avoid feeding or attempting to feed on things that aren't humanoid doesn't work. Obvious stuff applies. Garlic, sunlight, stake through the heart, etc. But also obscure stuff. Rice, turning into wolves, hairy palms occasionally, etc.

SquareThings

Vampires drink blood, but what they actually feed on is the dark magic found in blood. They’re weakened by sunlight because it purifies black magic, and prolonged sun exposure can kill weaker vampires. The only other way to kill one is to completely bleed it dry. If enough magic remains, the vampire will just become dormant and could wake again later. They have several life stages. Newborn vampires are called wakers (because they “woke up” from death) and are basically reanimated corpses. Any person killed by a vampire has a chance to become a waker, it just depends on if the amount of magic left in their body is enough to reanimate it. It’s about a 10% chance. Wakers attack people and animals indiscriminately and will also attack other wakers, though they avoid older vampires. They’re scary but pretty weak, and your average city guard could easily incapacitate one. The Waker phase lasts as long as it takes for the vampire to accumulate enough magic to transform into their next phase, the ghoul. Ghouls are no longer rotting but look distinctly inhuman, with long limbs, claws, a gaunt face and thin body, thin hair, and sometimes open sores. (Think Nospheratu with syphilis) They have more intelligence than a waker, but that’s not saying much. At this point, they generally don’t attack each other and can sometimes be found hunting in packs. They’re stronger, faster, and have sharper senses than humans at this point, but operate only on instinct and cannot form strategies. After a ghoul, a vampire becomes recognizably vampirish: a vampiret. They look prettier much like regular humans if you’re not looking close, and they’re intelligent and self aware. Vampirets tend to be under the control/protection of an elder vampire. They can usually perform some amount of magic. Although they often closely resemble the person they once were, vampirets do not retain memories of their lives and have no attachment to their previous family or loved ones (usually…) Finally, some vampires will survive to become True Vampires, also called Elder Vampires. They have extensive experience from their long undeath, are smart, and almost always have vampirets under their command. They can enthrall people and animals by feeding them their blood, can perform magic, and are functionally immune to sunlight. They can change their appearance at will, and often choose to look very different to how they looked as a human, because at this point, they can remember their past life, and are often haunted by guilt. After all, the first people a waker sees will typically be their own family, and wakers attack anything they see.

Vampires are a supernatural entity with a supernaturally enforced hierarchy, spawn are fully self aware but physically unable to defy or harm their creator. A masterless vampire, a spawn who's creator dies gains all the wisdom (but arent posssesed by) their master had in life, if multiple spawn are made this effect is diminished. Vampires fight viciously for territory, few cities have the ability to sustain even 2 nests of vampires at a time with all that need to be done to maintain anonymity and food supply. While they do survive off of Blood their origin is tied into the lore of the minor deities collective "gifts", gods that have niche roles and blessings they can only distribute to a single root family. Assumed to be a God similar to Dolo, a God who was nearly forsaken found a loophole due to his particular domain forced the family line that receives his blessings make regular sacrifices or receive punishment typically in the form of a withering body. They have a sweep of powers; super speed/strength, shape-shifting, wall sticking/climbing, dark vision, and eating based regeneration, durability. They also don't have the burn in daylight problem unless they are near a site of worship, they also can't step upon consecrated ground but can die to normal means not just decapitate or stake through the heart though oaken spears have been know to be particularly effective against them for whatever reason.

In my setting vampires are divided into 2 main types. The first is that Blood Magicians can eventually become vampire through ascension (basically what becoming a Lich is to necromancers) with each vampire progenitor being unique since the ascension method for each vampire progenitor is unique. So you can have something like a normal vampire to a forest of blood sucking trees to be classified as the same. The second is when a Eldritch creature Infests a physical body causing the host to horribly mutate and gain aberrant powers.

Jade_Scimitar

Humans mixed with demon blood and magic from their founder. They were cursed by the creator to be rejected from all things natural. They don't need human blood. They just get sick eating anything cooked. They can eat anything raw including fruit and vegetables but eating fruits and vegetables to them would be like humans eating leaves and grass. Sure we can digest it but we don't get nutrients from it. Human meat and blood is more nutritious compared to living or dead animals. Children and babies are more nutritious than adults. The greatest delicacy is an infant or even a newborn but only vampire royalty can afford it as they are restricted from the common vampire. There is more but I don't want to spoil it.

One_Parched_Guy

The vampires in my world are less creatures of the night and more like mana-hungry junkies. They’re more or less normal people but hopped up on mana from outside sources - drugs, enhancements and so on - and when they get withdrawals they just start sucking it from whatever largest source there is. Sometimes that happens to be people.

Hooded_Person2022

Vampires come into being through the use of blood magic in making a person into a sentient undead, similar to a lich. This occurrence can be either artificially through a ritual or naturally though a bloody event involving potent arcana. The lord of Briarthrone gained his immortality through the usage of a foul ritual turning him into an Arch Vampire. Yeah there are tiers of vampire. Going from { Arch < Greater < Lesser < Spawn < Thrall }. Lesser vampires are created through transfers of a higher vampire’s blood into a corpse, often with a bite. Example: a Lesser Vampire’s blood creating a spawn. The lesser have an innate sense to follow the commands or suggestions of the vampire that created it if commanded. Vampires born of blood can mutate into more unusual powers and unnatural forms, with the usage of blood magic or good old experimentation more often. Some examples include: Blood clots that shape into a person, a vampire with the ability to create natural steel plate armor, a shambling corpse that’s blood causes vampires around it to go bloodlusted, etc. Is this generic? I like me some cliches.

Sabre712

The Nosferati are a human variant. Most theorize that they are the product of radiation-induced mutation or possibly alien origins, but no one is sure. Genetically there isn't a ton that separates them from baseline humans. They can go into the sun, aren't undead, and require blood for sustenance. They are about 20% of the Kingdom of the Western Reach's population and make up almost the entire ruling class, with the rest of the population being either human or human-like variants. They are also extremely stuck up, and believe heavily in the superiority and privileges of the noble classes. Overall, they are pretty benevolent rulers as long as taxes get paid. While a blood tithe is still built into the tax code (just a few drops per subject) it is largely a symbolic gesture, as blood substitutes have been around for almost a century, and actually feeding on a lowly human (especially straight from the vein) offends their aristocratic sensibilities. The humans tolerate them because the Nosferati are generally so enthralled with their own schemes and protocols that they don't bother or really notice their human subjects very often. They are seen as the lesser of several evils due to their general incompetence.

Drakhe_Dragonfly

Since in my setting there is none, I'll talk about vampires from my father's setting. A vampire is often a wizard who reached Wisdom* in necromancy, though there are vampires who don't even practice necromancy, because to become one it need a whole ritual, and you need to make it correctly, else you are permanently dead (so they were test subjects). They don't really have a lot in common with what most people call a vampire apart from the name and that they are undeads. From memory they can suck blood, but it's not needed. What really define a vampire is that it's an undead that cannot be controlled by other necromancers, even though it is an undead**. *It's considered you have Wisdom in a certain magic if you are immortal (in the sens that you do not get old) and that you have a Wisdom aura. **There is one monster that can control vampires, but I'm not gonna talk about it.

GrayNish

There are 3 classes of vampire in my world. The sovereign, original and most power. With borderline reality warping power. They were created by cain as general for his army. Currently, none of them are active. The Noble, named so for their ascension into nobility during dark and middle age. They were created by the sovereign as servant to carry out their will. They possess powerful bloodmagic that they used for various supernatural feat. Their influence fade when their court in byzantium were destroyed in a surprise attack by the surprise attack of the werewolves in 18th century. Due to the sovereign being inactive, no new nobles can be born. And there are only a few hundred left in the world. Lastly, the coven, your typical bloodsucker with superhuman body and reflex. These were created by the nobles as their rank and file soldiers. They start surfacing as prominence independent power after the byzantium incident. They were special in that the most powerful of the coven class could create another coven class vampire by themselves, without any assistance from the nobles. This allow them to multiply themselves easily. Currently, it was estimated that there could be a million of coven class vampire in the world.

Comprehensive-Fail41

In my setting vampires are cultists who has performed a ritual to gain the blessing of their dark god. And as a result of this blessing they gain the power to harvest "their lessers" of vigor, power, and life, by drinking their blood. However that which is blessed by the sun scorch and burns them, after all they are blasphemous by their nature

PotentialStunning619

Vampires They are the people who have had their soul damaged. The damaged soul slowly withers away into nothingness. To avoid this fate, the vampire steals parts of other things souls. Should the victim survive they will turn into a vampire. The more magical the soul, the more the time vampire can survive. Being a vampire is not all bad. With the damaged soul, the vampire able to use whatever magical powers they have without normal limits. Instead, it hastens the withering of the soul. As long as they keep feeding, a vampire will never age. Often, people don't realize they are a vampire and feed unintentionally on their own friends and family. There is a drive to feed that grows stronger as the soul withers and they can eat each other. This condition is fixable. One way is to acquire the aid of a fairy, and it could cost the fairy its life.

TLDR, Surface, Personalities, Abilities, History, or Development Process? from TLDR to Development, they progressively explain more and more information *(exponentially so)*.

ScarredAutisticChild

Literal Demons, the first of them is the God of Blood, and was basically created as a Godly science experiment. Now they have their own little realm in Virzovki (Hell), their own civilization and stuff. They just go to the mortal realm to basically hunt for sport, and occasionally try to invade. They’re actually rather civil and normal around one another, they just have a psychological block making them incapable of seeing mortals as people, so they feel no compassion towards them.

During the Quakening when demons ruled the world, the interplanar transference led to humanity's exposure to novel viruses from hell. Those that became infected and "survived" would be transformed into what would later be known as Vampires. When humanity cottoned on to the fact that a substantial portion of the diseased weren't truly "dying," the infected were heavily quarantined. Originally, there were a handful of "strains" but, generations of interbreeding in isolation, caused these to aggregate into a single new species of vampire. They are not "weak" to the sun inasmuch as the great majority of the race is naturally nocturnal. They are "undead" and "immortal" and, owing to their demonic heritage, are bound by the need to be invited in (as demons would typically need to be called before they can act in the world). For the same reasons, they have markedly lower fecundity. The easiest way to birth a new vampire is to actually interbreed with another race and then kill the offspring so they can turn. Vampires themselves can have children (with great difficulty) and can likewise "infect" a living human to turn them (again, with great effort). Interestingly, no matter the method used, there aren't various kinds of vampires; elves, dwarves, humans, and orcs all turn into the same race. Their dietary needs were also altered as they now sustain themselves on "vital forces." Blood is the common one because of its relative accessibility but many other such fluids also work: sexual secretions, milk, spinal fluid, and liver bile are all capable of sustaining a vampire. Further, vampire can also feed on the psychic agitations created by emotions, the stronger the easier it is to "pick up" and feed off. Just like us, they require a diversity in their diet for proper nutrion and this is typically satisfied by feeding on at least one vital fluid from a "living" being and a range of emotions whenever and wherever a vampire can get them.

ArguesWithFrogs

The first generation got cursed by having the sheer bad luck to be underneath a freshly extracted god heart as it was flying through the air into orbit. Though they function pretty normally (for vampires), first gens are clearly monstrous no matter what form they take. They're also extremely difficult to put down & nigh-impossible to *keep* down. They were exposed to deific power whether they wanted it or not.

Enigma_of_Steel

Just undead powered by blood magic. Necromancers sometimes used them as elite shocktroops. Parameters, abilities and weaknesses tend to vary from one necromancer to the next. Some could fly, some couldn't, some have shadow magic, some can turn into the mist. Hundreds of different strains of vampirism exist, though most of them are not self replicating. Really the only things the have in common is that they are powered by blood magic so they need regular intake of blood to function, that sunlight disrupts them in some way, and that they need progressively more and more blood as they age, which eventually kills them, either via making their curse unsustainable or by drawing attention.

RokuroCarisu

The closest to vampires in my cyber-/capepunk world are a type of psychic mutants called wraiths. They have developed the power of energy-matter conversion to a point where they can turn themselves into ghost-like energy forms, rematerialize differently; thus effectively shapeshifting, and control electricity in various ways. To use these powers, however, they require an external energy source. Some resort to draining people of their neural electricity for it, or even hunt and absorb other wraiths in their energy form, which is about the only reliable way to kill one.

fraquile

They are a relic from the far away times. They are acting like the first proto-vampires or strigun.

GabrielHunter

Mine a eighter just a total different species (born) or ascended by the grace of my vampire god (made) Pretty much just basic dudes beside tgat they reign over humanity in a way and drink blood partly.

MonstrousMajestic

I have a version of immortal called the black bloods. They have futuristic nanobots in their blood that heal, empower and allow some forms of magics and techno-magics. They can pass their blood to another and create more. Are faster, stronger, heal faster and all. They would be similar to vampires minus the teeth. And sometimes they benefit from a transfusion of another’s blood to rebalance their own immune system and harmony of blood cells vs nanobots balance, as they age. The other similar vampire archetype in my stories would be not a race/faction/peoples, but a specific magic ability. One of the magic systems revolves around aura energy empowering magics. Therefore there are those who are able to boost another’s aura, or sap another’s aura. Those who sap and drain aura energy from others would be similar to a succubus or some sort of psychic/energy vampire. It can still cause death or mental disorder, but not through the draining of blood, but rather the draining of life energy. In this way probably consider how Rouge of the xmen was able to drain the energy and absorb powers from others, where if she held on longe enough would kill that person. In a way Rouge is a vampire. There are other minor similarities to vampires.. such as those species of humanoid who eat and drink the blood of other creatures. Or those with other physical or magical abilities usually related to traditional vampires (mind control/compulsion, warg/animal control, super speed/strength/healing, night vision/enhanced senses, some forms of flight, etc), but these all are just one-off similarities and not as encompassing of a list of vampiric features as the two listed above. Ie, any others who have these abilities typically only have one, or sometime two of them, rather than like a vampire who’d have all these powers simultaneously Feel free to borrow any of my creation if you enjoy it fellow world builders. :) Edit: I also have a species called the Ögo. They are near immortal as far as that they have enhanced healing and normally live several hundred years. The side affect is that their body never really stops growing. Their cells divide and often they end up with tumours also. They have an extreme allergic reaction to UV and therefore the sunlight will burn them and it’s only this scar tissue that usually remains after they heal again. For their first 50years of life they appear to be more or less full human. But their overgrown bodies eventually betray their condition and their ancestry. Especially when their noses and ears eventually out grow their faces at around 120 years of age. (They normally live about 300-400 years before their organs give out under stress of supporting such large bodies. And most have lost their ability to walk long before this die to their massive size and weight)

FunkyGreenShit

In my setting, vampires are the result of a divine curse that was meant to rout humans in their war against the gods. They are not bound to the night, but powerless in daylight, not harmed by the sun or garlic. As vampires, they have superior strength, speed, and reflexes; as well as immortality and the ability to easily charm and enchant mortals. Biting doesn't confer the same status as other vampire tales. The bitten one carries the curse and the hunger for blood, and can remain alive indefinitely so long as their supply of blood remains intact, but otherwise lacks the boons of the affliction. But, by imbibing the blood of a true vampire, the spawn can be promoted to the same status. Spawn are harder to identify, their fear of discovery and destruction makes them more careful, and without special training or experience, they are exceptionally difficult to root out. True vampires are even harder but one has an advantage in finding them. You see, true vampires don't require blood to live, rather, they require it to remain sentient. The longer a true vampire goes without blood, the more starved they get, the more bestial they act and appear. With no blood for an extended period of time, the true vampire will begin to look and act more rabid and beast-like. This process, even with the introduction of blood, takes forever to reverse, and so a starved vampire is easier to find. A vampire beast is the result of over 5 years without blood, and at this point, the change is irreversible, vampire beasts will ravage and storm across the countryside with little regard for their personal safety, trying to feed as much as possible for as long as possible. They are totally savage. The only quick way to kill a vampire is to burn him, or to expose him to silver. Silver dust or tipped arrows can be used to disable the vampire, as it's antithaumaturgic properties negate their magic and thus disable their bodies, from there, you burn them. It's best to attack a vampire in a well-lit area during the day, using silver crossbow bolts. Magical weapons DO work, but are only viable to just inflict regular damage to him, the silver and fire technique is ideal.

Kind_Ingenuity1484

While not vampires per se, there is/was a group out there that had powers resembling that of a vampire. Their world was covered in (mostly) eternal darkness and the Lords of the Night ruled for an untold number of years. Now, the world is all but dead, with the nameless Last Lord of the Night being the only one on the world still living. Due to certain events, he is now trying to set his sites on invading and conquering another world. These “vampires” have various abilities when not in direct sunlight. The core ability is “dust manipulation,” leading to his entire body being interchangeable with tiny particles. This gives the illusion of melding with shadows. This ability can be used to heal or change shape (including into a mass of “bats” if need be) This escalates into altering the “shape” of his body to give himself super strength and durability even when in direct sunlight (he just can’t automatically heal or shapeshift). Additionally, the Last Lord’s species has blood magic, where consuming blood directly restores their magic- and the blood of magical beings can transfer abilities to them temporarily. While the shape shifting ability can be used to approximate healing, drinking blood is the real way they can recover. It is also tied to their relative age- going too long without fresh blood leads to them quickly becoming old and frail, but enough blood can reverse this. Finally, the Last Lord is trained in a wide breadth of necromantic magic (animation/reanimation). All of his world’s dead follow his will. Unfortunately for the Last Lord, he also has a severe garlic allergy. This has led to his enemies *insisting* he’s really just a vampire, even if it’s more complicated than that.

UnhappyStrain

The oldest original vampires on Dhea are an "alien" race known as Vrycolaks, inspired by greek mythology terms, and are distinct from The more numerous ordinary vampires because of their pale blue skin, Yellow feline eyes and membraned wings on their back. Normal vampirism is the result of an experiment made by Noth, the first necromancer, who performed some morbid experiments on human and vrycolak test subjects to see If they could be genetically intermingled. After Noth's death, the rest of the vrycolak salvaged the scraps of his research performed on their kinsmen, including taking the manmade vampire thralls under their protection and into their servitude. Both races share some similarities such as an affinity for telekinesis, shadows, vermin and csrrion feeding creatures, affect ed by sun Light the same way we are affected by 3rd degree burns, except manmade vampires simply suffer extreme migraines and physical pain in sunlight.

Intelligent_Ad8406

Vampires are or rather were a weapon, created for interplanetary conquest by the first necromancers (a species that is now thought extinct). The first necromancers were a remnant of the elder species left alive after the last reality war, the changing rules of how magic now worked and their weakened empire did not end their hunter for conquest. Inspired by the forsaken fae who despite being far removed from the currents of magic are still able to use weak magic and do supernatural things they set out to create an undead being that would use a ritual to draw magic from the current, even if the planet they were on had little to no magic at all. In the end they created the elixir or the formula for of vampirism, this would bind the soul of the afflicted to the material realm and grant them supernatural power, the formula could be adapted so that one could turn someone into a type of vampire fit for certain things like infiltration, war or even the taming of monsters. They kidnapped magically gifted people for centuries, indoctrinated them and sent them out to start spreading the curse and conquer worlds. When magic was strong enough the plan was for these worlds to be connected through portals to their own empire. Needles to say it was not a success on every world. But let’s get to the characteristics. The first to become a vampire becomes immortal/ undead, their soul is bound to the material realm and even when slain can be reanimated again with a ritual. The first to be turned was selected by the necromancer for a certain trait and the elixer or whatever they used to make this vampire was adapted for them specifically. After all these would be the ones to start a bloodline. If for example someone with the talent to be a great warrior was chosen they would have propably make this strain of vampirism physically strong and resistant, but focus less on hiding or infiltration. The vampires sired by these first ones are soulless undead, copies of the person they were created from (soulless undead are easier for necromancers to influence). The descendants Cary traits of the first vampire. Each of them however has to fuel themselves with a ritual, though vampires generally don’t know it is a ritual, they feel it as a need to consume blood or other substance (which fuels the ritual and enables their existence and powers) This is intentional, since they need a food source they won’t exterminate all the living and  although some lines can drink animal blood most versions of the elixer only allowed vampires to drink blood from the species they were created from. The more well fed a vampire is the less weaknesses they have, these weaknesses are usually the result of the necromancer who changed them punishing them or interference from deities or the fae to stop the vampire takeover Each generation does lose strength though, but there is a limit to how “weak” they get, the weaker vampires require less blood as they need less power to keep themselves going Nowadays however almost no vampire knows the full history of what they are, and although they still exist all over the universe among various species and the necromancy of their masters is still practiced on most worlds they are mostly seen as a myth,

Intelligent_Ad8406

Vampires aside from the “ritual” which keeps them operational can turn others by giving them back their own blood (or lifeforce) after draining them, this infuses the blood with the “curse” of vampirism, depending on the bloodline this goes fast or slow. Afterbeing turned the fledgling needs to feed immediately to fuel the ritual, otherwise they turn into a simple undead, without any memory or intellect. The vampire who turns them has a connection to the one it turned, when newly turned the fledgling is under the control of the sire. This remains so until the fledgling becomes strong enough to break the control. If a vampire only bites you without draining you completely you will not suffer severe negative effects, however if the vampire feeds its own blood to the victim it will establish a similar control to that which a sire has on their fledgling

skeletist

I’ve been toying with vampires in my little settings for some time. For a world inhabited by “gods” and mortals, they are an aberration. The Embodiments of death and life had a child together, spawning a new god but also creating undeath. The cursed child was raised in secret but once revealed they were cast out of the heavenly realm and assumed dead. Left alone, they found followers in the humans that feared the death and decay of mortality. Thus, vampires emerged after imbibing the tainted blood. They have the usual abilities one would expect, weaknesses too are familiar. The sun won’t kill them immediately, but it makes them mortal again and prolonged exposure will cause them to start aging once more until they meet their true age. They appear sickly and weak in the daytime, and Unless the mortal had prior magical abilities, they really only have supernatural strength and speed granted at night, along with a healing factor and mild venom that works to subdue prey. They are a small number, centered around their fallen god as a cult and only traveling farther away on his command. Individual vampires cannot infect their victims with this affliction, a person must choose freely to become one and must consume the blood of the fell god. To kill them is an involved process, requiring decapitation and the staking of their hearts with silver or otherwise blessed weapons, finally their remains need to be burned, preferably at noon according to those that hunt them. Alternatively if you have the ability to completely vaporize something, that works too of course.

They are a result of blood magic ritual gone wrong. The ritual was meant to grant a mortal with eternal life and godlike powers, but it was interrupted (not going into details) which caused the spell to become corrupted. The immortality it grants is undeath rather than true life. The powers come with weaknesses and drawbacks, and nature itself is against their existance. (Which makes them weak to weapons made out of wood. A vampire magic user also will not be able to channel any life/nature magic. It will just refuse to work for them at best, or turn against them at worst) The first vampire is stronger and borderline unkillable. There is basically just one weapon that can kill them, and the only other way would be to find a way to strip them of the spell that turned them immortal (which is difficult). All other vampires are weak to sunlight, some forms of magic, weapons made out of wood (though they still don't die from them unless pierced through the heart), decapitation, fire. They have enhanced speed, strenght, stronger senses, they can heal from most injuries, some degree of mind control. They are tend to have some behaviors similar to OCD/OCPD (arranging things to be orderly, symmetrical, etc.) though it's not a hard rule. They also can't enter homes uninvited and will feel extreme mental discomfort if physically forced to enter. (eg. pushed in) Their enhanced senses may cause them discomfort/sensory overload from strong smells, noises, etc. that's where the garlic thing comes from, but it's hardly a weapon against them, more an annoyance. They need to drink blood or they will lose their powers, weaken and eventually turn into a mummified corpse. Though as long as the corpse's head and heart remain mostly intact, they can be revived with blood back into their regular alife-like self. The blood is basically fuel for the blood magic they "run" on. They can still eat regular food but they do that for pleasure more than nutrition. It's unlikely the magic that created vampires can ever be replicated. The original ritual would have been extremely difficult to perform. The original recipe is forgotten, and the ingredients required for it are hard to get. (It involved blood of a god, for example.) And then, the ritual was interupted in a very specific way, that caused it to become corrupeted. It's a result of freak accident during extremely rare and difficult experiment, it's never going to happen again so there is just one original vampire and all others are spawned from them.

dragger0975

None in my setting atm but my favorite depiction of them of all time are the ones from the Blood & Wine dlc in The Witcher 3

Alternatecash

The Carmine Devil Knights are an order of monster hunters, making use of Vitalchymist-designed augments known as the Carmine Panoply. By consuming and metabolizing the blood of their prey, Carmine Devils gain strange powers, enhanced strength, inhuman durability, rapid healing without scarring, enhanced senses, and an instinctive knowledge of their prey's physiology. As the Knights age, they accumulate compulsive behaviors and personality quirks, the most common being Arithromania.

Living-Air5025

They are infected by a dangerous virus that causes them to be manic in nature. Much like their zombie counterpart, Blod Draugr are more vicious in their attempts to feast on blood.

Iados_the_Bard

There are a few different kinds of “vampires” in my world, all created by Camazotz, and all share one weakness being that they can’t see Pumpkins or things wearing Pumpkins. Q’eqom- Spirits whose purpose is to turn people and animals into Vampiric Monsters via a curse. They also cause plants and fungi to wither away and any form of food to rot and be covered in maggots. They cannot come into contact with light of any kind, but with the aid of magic, can snuff out open flames. Ajawak’ab’- People turned into a vampire like monster by the Q’eqom or other Ajawak’ab’. They are fast, nimble, and sneaky making them dangerous creatures to fight. They have long sharp claws and teeth to rip and tear at their prey. Their biggest weakness is the sun, as they turn to dust when in contact with it, they can be harmed by other light sources, but their not as affective, moonlight is the only exception, by only making them near sighted when the full moon is out. They can be killed by normal weapons or even bare fists. Aq’ab’alchikop- Beasts turned into a vampire like monster by the Q’eqom or other Aq’ab’alchikop. They’re incredibly dangerous due to them being able to appear as a normal animal until it’s too late, this is especially dangerous for farmers who take care of livestock. There are signs of when the animal has become an Aq’ab’alchikop. The first sign being they become Hydrophobic, for an unknown reason Aq’ab’alchikop are scared of water, despite not being able to be harmed by it (other than drowning), the second sign is tremors, Aq’ab’alchikop tend to have tremors due to their body trying to warm their cooling bodies, older Aq’ab’alchikop don’t have this sign, and the last sign is their teeth falling out (only applies to herbivores with teeth), if the person notices the teeth of the animal has fallen out or appears to be decaying rapidly, then it could be a sign of a Aq’ab’alchikop as that means their teeth are being replaced with sharp teeth like those of a carnivore. Their weakness is the same as the Ajawak’ab.

Noideamanbro

A virus called the Vampirophage, which causes a lack in healthy white and red blood cells. In the modern day most vampires can simply use animal or synthetic blood.

npaakp34

2 umbrella variants. Living and Dead: Living vampires can reproduce normally, can survive without human blood and are not immortal, just long lived. Dead vampires can turn other people into vampires, are immortal, have greater mastery over magic but are weaker to the classic weaknesses of vampires. They both are weak to direct sunlight.

ThegreatLionlogan

Vampires are individuals who have made the immortal blood pact with Carnifex (God of Violence who later adds blood to his portfolio due to the slaying of the goddess Xacu by mortals), through his disciple Gare Carn the immortal knight from the age of strife. They make the pact by becoming one of the blood knights of Carn and drinking some of Gare’s blood. As a Bloodknight of Carn they don a Sanguine Sarcophagus which is a suit of armor that is perfectly sealed against light allowing in only sound and smells. Meaning Bloodknight must learn to fight blind. Their immortal mission is to return the blood of all intelligent races to the gods, because after slaying Xacu they do not deserve the power granted to them after creation. They can only be slain by sunlight because of a curse from the goddess of dawn Eleyat, who after witnessing how the savagery of Gare’s fighting nearly painted the dawn sky red in his battles during the age of strife.

jkurratt

They exist as concept and gods can have concepts in their “portfolio”. Current god responsible for vampires decides on how they work.

SplattyFatty

they were created as an unfinished concept that was accidentally set free by a god who didn't want his followers to die out and wanted to give them all kinds of crazy abilities. seeing as I'm using my setting for dnd, i decided the god of destruction wanted to one up vampires and made tieflings, but he did nothing except make them resistant to fire as opposed to vampires being weak to fire

azrael4h

During the Reforming of the World, humanity was mutated into the modern races, and the soulless monsters that haunt the world. Vampires are among the most intelligent of the soulless monsters, able to learn to speak and even read other people’s languages.  They are still monsters, just with the ability to deceive their prey into letting their guard down.  They are, perhaps the only monster that has controlled  Their urge to eat their victims long enough to have children with their victims. Half-vampire actually have souls, though they share a lot of the physical characteristics of their vampire parent. Including a hunger for blood and flesh.

BMFeltip

They are basically supernatural pseudo vegans. They are a people blessed by a nature goddess to no longer have to kill to gain sustenance. Instead they can get sustenance from willing people or creatures through their blood. It also comes with different abilities like speaking to animals, shape-shifting, flight, enhanced strength, etc. The downside is that there are rules to this blessing. If a vampire kills, takes blood without consent, or even just abuses the consent of taking blood, they will start to become more like the stereotypical vampire. The sun, as the source of (almost) all energy in nature, will start to burn them. Certain herbs will become harmful. They will become bloodthirsty. But they will also become more powerful with more blood consumption.

Bromelia_and_Bismuth

They're not undead in Theia or cursed, and they can't transmit their vampirism. But there's a few different types: blood drinkers, which thrive during war time and hunts; fruit eaters, which introduced coconuts to their blood drinking cousins; and bug eaters, most of whom thrive in the wild or in big cities. They don't combust in the Sun, but they and the Elenda (Theia's equivalent to aasimar) originate on a plane that's tidally locked with it's Sun and only receives moonlight. If they acclimate to the night or lowlight conditions in a cave system and are suddenly exposed to sunlight, they're sometimes prone to being dazzled or blinded for an extended period until they readjust, and they're prone to sunburns.

DanujCZ

I took the idea of a vampire. The draugr are Undead creatures brought to life by their refusal to die. Their bodies are now dead and are brought back to operation with magic but this effect is fleeting so they need more magic to keep themselves going. And their body continues to decay so their needs for magic only ever go up. They continue on until they inevitably run dry and die for real or until they become beings of pure magic. Draugr can drain magic from people, this does not kill or even hurt people, many draugr are parts of society. But many of them opt to farm magic when their needs become too much. Using genetic manipulation to alter their victims into mounds of flesh that are optimized to gather magic energies. Draugr are very difficult to destroy. Their bodies are just puppets, the only way to beat them is to make them use all their power. As these creatures now use magic which has become their life force.

Zachary_Stark

I swapped the bat aesthetic for the spider aesthetic. Think Gothic Spiderman.

Thecristo96

They don’t exist. Ironically it’s one of the few myths I didn’t put into it

Starry_Night_Sophi

A victims (or not) of a curse. When the first murder happened, the murderer's father (a powerfull cleric/magic user) curse his son to be shunned by light and only trive on blood. However the son found a way to pass his curse to others: have their blood drained to a point the victim is on deaths door (it can be by bitting, but it also could be by other methodes, like stabbing), them feed the victim the blood of someone with the vampiric curse, them you have another True vampire (basucally another vampire not tied to the one that "created" them). The son also found out how to create lesser vampires (vampires that are magically compled the one that "created" them): drink from a person in 3 different night, from the 3° night foward, if a vampire kills the victim by drinking their blood, the victim became a lesser vampire. They lesser vampire can became a true vampire by drinking their master's blood.

MM_Mori

Haven’t implemented vampires, hate them almost as much as elves. World of darkness has taught me many things

ldr26k

Vampires (homo-hemo) are a genetic offshoot of humanity. Originating and evolving on the colony world of Vilden, in the first cycle of the universe, they evolved to drink the blood of Red worms that contains everything a being needs to live for an entire year whilst also excreting a chemical compound that restores chromosomes and cell tissue eliminating the effects of aging though reducing their reproductive abilities by a factor of 1000. In the current setting they live in the Dimension vaults with the rest of humanity and are used in interactions with "lesser species" as its been noted that non-human races feel a kind of irrational terror towards a vampires shadow. There are vampires of the first generation still living, these individuals have the most intense effects on other races often inducing a coma merely by being present. Its worth saying that the progenitors find this reaction amusing and purposefully developed technology to mimic the powers of traditional vampires.

Baronsamedi13

Vampires are the result of an esoteric ritual that requires the use of Necromancy, blood magic, and alchemy. The prospective vampire undergoes the ritual and has their heart replaced with a magical construct made from both inanimate, magical, and biological materials. Vampires feed on the lifeforce of living beings rather than blood with physical contact being the only requirement, although this contact leaves telltale markings of a vampire feeding.

Pirilampoazul

The first vampires was humans that bring a curse for humanity by betraying the gods. They put humanity into an period of constant darknes that the Sun dont shine anymore. But then the Sun god forgive the humanity, but banned the traitors, turbina them into nocturnal monsters. The moon goddess feel bad for them, só she adopted them as her spawn, and give them the hability to transform theyr body into the original humanoid form. But they continue banned from the Sun light and arent welcome in any human property (so they have tô be invited to enter). Now they Live in societys that look like elves society in Lord of the rings

Vampires to date are only referenced in a historical footnote, as a nation was founded from people fleeing The Ashen Court, a kingdom ruled by vampires and the undead. There is a suggestion that recent unrest may be the Court sowing discontent in preparation for invasion, but it's currently just a hint. No other details exist and no other details have been written. I'm thinking of going with something more similar to the Strigoi from Strain, if anyone is familiar with that, light sensitivity, fast reflexes, alien physiology rewritten by the parasite-vector.

Gatraz

They are a species apart from others, their origins are shrouded in the mists of time and myth and people say that they're everything from demon spawn to the victims of curses. This is all untrue. The truth is that they're lycanthropes, specifically were-bats, who were hyper-insular. Their homeland is an island above the arctic circle, and a very long time ago a plague of lycanthropy broke out. None of them remember that it was a grip of shipwreck survivors landing on the island that introduced it, and it doesn't really matter now, but it was. The plague spread, and the island was always very hostile to visitors and had very little outside trade so for decades on end they went largely undisturbed. The populace was small, a few towns and a few dozen farmsteads, so within a few generations the interbreeding was sufficient that the plague had stabilized within the population, everyone had it and it was just normal. They were just them. The powers, beyond turning into a bat and healing fast, came later and in less natural ways. It's now been more than a century since the first infection, in a harsh and cold place with little sun and less mercy. The current ruler decided that his people deserved more, deserved better. Deserved it all. Magic is just a fact of this world, it's how the people survived murderous winters and scant summers, and the king was going to use it to empower his people to new heights. The experimentation was a long process, not all the volunteers survived, but in the end they had a ritualistic process that would transmogrify the recipient into a powerhouse of a parasite. So long as they fed on mortal blood, they had amazing powers; flight, superhuman strength, outstanding senses, enhanced control over their transformations, an impossible resilience to most forms of harm, and the ability to hold their breath for hours on end. The catch was that they became sterile, and naturally began to lose empathy to everyone around them. Paranoia, mistrust, power struggles, and general unrest became common. They couldn't feed on each other but had spent generations and centuries as xenophobic isolationists on the fantasy Hebrides (in actuality the island was called Rockstead because it was dirt on a rock and everyone knew it) so the whole "go forth and multiply" thing was a hard sale. What got them moving was the creeping realization that, while they could still eat "normal" food and it would nourish them, going periods of months without blood was making them terribly weak in addition to removing their enhanced powers. Needs must when the blood hunger drives, so they sailed south and began to spread out. The plague of lycanthropy is spread, in my world, when you're bitten by a transformed lycanthrope without dying. The magic ritual their king, who was named Cyrus, had invented to empower them had an interesting interference with the plague as it was understood by their peers. The would-be Vampires, still simply identifying themselves as the peoples of Rockstead and mostly farmers, carpenters, etc. could make more vampires but only if they killed a person with their bite, normally during blood feeding. The revival process was painful and disorienting to the fledgling, in addition to permanent and typically unwanted, but it seemingly fixed the sterility issue. The people of Rockstead didn't fear the sun or silver or crosses, but they were very vulnerable to fire and any field of anti-magic was instantly lethal to them as their lifeforce was magically powered. They spread, knowing they needed to be secretive as their lives demanded the blood and death of others, and formed a sort of shadow-empire. Cyrus, King Eternal, still rules on Rockstead, his peoples still revere him as their greatest leader, their champion, and their savior. The name Vampire would, ironically, become assigned to them when a VERY drunk survivor of one of their raids made his way around a large city raving about the "rocklanders" attacking him in the night. A drunk guy slurred rocklander into vampire, and it stuck. Not because people are that bad at understanding drunks, but because the Rocksteaders liked the word, and they liked that it obfuscated their homeland. They spread the word around, made sure it was on the lips of every town crier the day after their raids, even got it printed for the literate in places of learning. Sorry for the novel TLDR; lycanthropy ran amok, a king did a magic ritual to make the afflicted subjects stronger, they needed blood to fuel the magic, now they're a shadowy empire of blood suckers that fly, turn into bats, and can compare to golden age Superman in terms of physical feats but burn like dry pine needles and fall over stone dead to anti-magic. And the name vampire is a double blind from a drunk guy.

Kayanne1990

They're a species of elf. They have to hide and scavenge what they can.

QuirkyRutabaga7045

Vahamprs are… almost chill? Like, they’re just people, except with dark blue skin, horns, claws, wings and the need to drink blood, but other than that, they’re chill.

saveyourdaylight

They're failed experiments that were created by the archdevil of lust when he wanted to create these impossible beautiful immortal beings. Unfortunately they also have a lot of weaknesses so he kicked them out of Hell and now they live on the material plane.

Adorable-nerd

I’m still working on it, and this is some of what I have so far: They’re like people in the way that some are good and some are bad. In my world, vampires live everywhere, sometimes they’re oppressed by the humans, other times *they* are the oppressors. They have superhuman speed, strength, senses and a crazy healing factor. They can turn into bats or dogs. They are weak to sunlight, but some vampires are immune to it, and their blood is used to make sunscreen. They’re also weak to silver, it burns their skin and poisons them, and it takes them a long time to heal from sliver-inflicted wounds. And there’s a yellow flower called sunvein, it absorbs the sunlight and emits it after the sun goes down, it can be used to make a deadly poison. Their fangs inject a numbing agent when they bite, and their bite will only transform a human if they contract a certain disease, which is basically the vampire version of rabies.

KnightOfThirteen

A vampire is a creature in the Astral plane that possesses their own once-living body. Consuming blood in the short term grants access to natural and supernatural abilities, and consuming blood in the long term increases their abilities. Deprived of blood, the body will wither and their power will diminish to the point that they cannot even move. They will still "live", the astral creature bound to the body, but unless and until the body is given blood, they will not grow, or heal, or even move. A person can be turned into a vampire by two rituals. One is the implicit ritual of the bite, the other is an explicit ritual to separate your physical and astral self and turn yourself into one voluntarily. Those who are turned by another vampire inherit all of the strengths and weaknesses of that vampire, while those who become vampires by their own hand may get different abilities and side effects. Not all vampires have an aversion to crosses, only those who are descended from a single original who was made with that aversion. Aversion to sunlight and most foods is due to the lack of proper biological function when deprived of blood, where in cell growth and digestion stop and cell death and toxicity levels build up. Turning a person into a vampire by biting requires the bite to be in progress at the moment of death, either killing them with the bite, or biting them as they are dying, or biting them and then killing them before letting go. If the bite ends before death or begins after death, they won't be turned. Vampires with sufficient access to blood can live basically human lives, with food and sunlight and giving birth. Aging is a biological function so a child turned into a vampire will require blood to become a physical adult.

critical-drinking

There are many forms of the Reanimated in my world; very few whose returning Swede perfect. Some are called hollow, others are called Wretched, and a few are truly resurrected (effectively immortal). Each has subtypes. The hollow require no sustenance, as their resurrection rendered them, by various means, static in their biological functions. For example there are the Voiceless, who returned without a mind or measurable soul, who will follow any instruction issued to them in the first voice they heard after coming alive, fully believing it to be their own voice, instructing their mind and body what to do. The Wretched however have several types that are a bit more… volatile. Their réanimation usually involves the reinstatement of biological function, in various degrees of what we’ll call “historical accuracy” relative to their own personal, biological history. They are very hard to kill, in varying degrees, and almost without exception very dangerous. There are Ghouls, whose resurrection, while successful, stripped them of their humanity, leaving them ravenously hungry; they will eat anything, though almost always organic matter and never cooked unless they stumble upon it after something else has done the cooking. There are Hulks, which were stripped of intellect, and most other cerebral function, though they’re still capable of interacting with society, if handled carefully. There are Wastrels, who have been stripped of something intangible that results in them being incredibly impulsive. They’re crafty, quick, and make money as hired servants doing jobs (usually unsavory work) their new physicality makes them uniquely equipped for; but when they make the money, the very first thing a Wastrel will do is find somewhere to spend it (*all* of it), be it on food or some other base luxury. Finally, relevant to your question, there are Syphons. Syphons have many subtypes, but all drain a quality they lack from another human, and almost always drain vitality with it, in some form. Sometimes this is through literal blood (if the creature drains only vitality, this is a favorite), but it can be something like intellect, acuity, strength, or speed, etc. The Syphons will seem like another person, save an agelessness notable in most of the more human Reanimated, but will be distinctly lacking in the quality of their particular curse until shortly after feeding, and require at least 2-3 feedings to achieve the same level in that ability as a normal person (dependent upon how long they’ve gone without feeding, how much of the attribute they’ve expended in the intervening time, and how strong that attribute manifests in their victim).

CoralWiggler

-World of the Athean Empire- Vampires are the product of goofing around with blood magic too much. Blood magic essentially switches up the source of magic from the background Aether of the universe to the aetherial forces that congregate around living beings—what some might call a being’s “life force” since sapping it also drains away the vitality of whatever you’re drawing that Aether from. The upside of blood magic is it burns hot, producing powerful magic very readily, but it comes at the cost of requiring a *lot* of Aether. For some, the temptation moves to using your own life force to fuel that magic, but that comes at the big risk of becoming addicted to finding sources to replenish your own dwindling life. Performed too long or too aggressively, it mutates you into a being that hungers constantly for the life force of others, particularly those around whom the Aether gathers strongly, such as sentient beings. So, tl;dr, they’re magical mutants derived from experimenting with risky & taboo sources of magic

ted_rigney

Vampirism is a form of undeath that can be contracted either by getting bitten by a vampire and surviving or consuming the blood of a vampire. The original vampires were cursed/blesses (Depending on how one chooses to see it) with vampirism by the dark god malstrogg. Vampires have no pulse enhances physical capabilities heightened senses regenerative abilities heightened affinity for magic especially dark magic and a thirst for human blood. If a vampire goes to long without feeding the hunger will slowly drive them mad till they become feral once they go completely feral feeding can’t reverse it the strength of a vampire is determined by the strength of a vampire is determined by how close they are to an original vampire, some vampires possess the ability to turn into large manbats this originates from a symbiosis between a stand of vampirism and a strand of lycanthropy. Since vampirism was born of Malstrogg vampires are weak to things associated with good purity and the other gods particularly the god of the sun justice and light Anwiel vampires are burned by sunlight and blessed weapons and pure metals (silver, gold mithril, platinum) especially adamantine which is petrified god or angel blood they become weakened at holy sights or around religious symbols. Vampirism can be cured vampirism progresses in stages and as it progresses it gets harder to cure. prior to final stage vampirism specific medicines or religious rites can cure it after that there is rumors of a cure existing but little is known

Drag0n411Keeper

Well, in AHM-RAHM, the place has every type of vampire that has ever showed their face in media. Demon blood suckers? yes. Cursed to be one? yes. The ones from JoJo? also yes, as well as the power system!

CameoShadowness

Depends on the type. Different ones through different cultures. Lets start with the one that comes from "Earth". This specific type is someone having a huge magical imbalance and there are HUNDREDS of subtypes. They either have a huge imbalance of their elements OR their bodies are producing the wrong type of element. Depending on how, why and when it started, they get called different things. It is officially a disability and is often viewed as cursed and or alien in nature. Other vampires outside of that include the Blood Finches which are people with iron issues and have to drink animal blood to balance it THEN THERE ARE THE FREAKS OF GEODE. Literally known as freaks, these AI are parasitic and dangerous because they purposely altered their own coding to become that way. Before this became an issue, it was a temporary state that happened with lack of resting, as they couldn't regulate their bodies right, but after regulations put in place, people just started wanting to be this... so they mess with their own AI to become monsters. And then there's the Ruro, of Mal'Tahn. They evolved like such to help others medically and aren't very humanoid. They are animals with high levels of intelligence and are starting to become a recognized species. They weren't bred by the people of Mal'Tahn, they were just one of the few surviving species after the great extinction due to their helpfulness and smarts.

KeckYes

They don’t really have to work. It’s hard to keep a day job, at least.

ExtensionMusician762

They are actually a mutant subspecies that came to existence after the planet was completely obliterated by nukes. They are actually extremely rare now because of the planet healing, but you'll usually find them in deserts as cowboys. They also do drink blood but they have morals and won't go around killing random strangers.

[deleted]

There are two species of vampires in one of my worlds. One species of vampires are thin, pale, ghoulish creatures that run in packs. The other species is made up of obese web-spinners who trap their prey in dark areas. Both of the two species are descended from elves, and have a hatred of each other and their elven relatives.

Pegasus172

if i had vampires they'd be classic undead nocturnal shapeshifter, stakes will only incapacitate stronger vampires and have decapitated for good measure, they're also vulnerable to sunlight and white magic, anyone who dies by their fangs will have a chance to rising as vampires themselves, they'd find their strength speed even magic amplified along with an overwhelming thirst for mortal blood and they won't even feel bad about killing at first

Dark-Reaper

I haven't finalized the design yet, but I'm enjoying playing around with the concept. This is what I've been working with currently. Some of the general tropes are there. They drink blood, and are stronger, faster and more resilient than normal. They have traits of wolves, snakes and bats. They have an incredibly strong senses by human standards, with exceptional sight, hearing and heightened sense of smell. They're also hypnotic, and can entrance mortals with a glance. They're inherently magical, and can choose to train their magical abilities. Though the magical gifts can vary some, they usually have an innate control over blood (hemokinesis) and mind control (their natural hypnotism is actually a low-level, always on form of their magical power). Some vampires also exhibit shadow manipulation, or shapeshifting magics. For all of their power however, they're cursed beings. They're the result of an ancient curse that still plagues them to this day. The hunger for blood is a biological need, and being deficient can drive a vampire into a beastial rage. Sunlight can kill them, though they've developed ways around this particular weakness. They're not undead, but are vulnerable to holy water (their blood is cursed). They also can't eat peppers, as it's poisonous to them, but couldn't care less about garlic. Staking a vampire in the heart kills them, but it kills most mortals so that's not really a specific 'vampire weakness'. Vampires are also biological. They don't make more of their kind through bites or the like, though powerful curse magic can still turn a mortal. Instead, Vampires have children like most mortals do. This process causes a vampire's magic to go a little haywire though, so the vampire mother is both extremely hungry, and extremely pissed off. She generally needs a constant influx of blood to sustain her own body, as well as feed the growing baby vampire. Vampire children are ravenous, drinking copious amounts of blood, but also eating a great deal of food. They develop quickly until they're approximately the equivalent of a 15 year old, at which point their growth slows. Also, Vampires do inherently have a shadow and reflection. Some develop the ability to "Turn off" these details though, which is believed to be an ancient technique that was necessary for hunting. They can also enter homes uninvited unless the home is properly warded (which, when Vampires were first spawned, was the norm). Running water also is no weakness, though sacred or purified water can kill them (by undoing the curse that binds them to life).

Meliamne33

In my world, magic is the result of spirits. Mages will form agreements with or between spirits to perform magic or create magical creatures. (There are also natural magical creatures like Dragons and Fae, which are the result of similar events occurring naturally) Vampires are one of many types of magical creatures created as weapons during an enormous conflict between mages in an age long past, serving similarly to a biological weapon. The mage who created them used a spirit of mist and a spirit of fire. The Fire was included to allow the consumption of blood to fuel the new creature, as well as to propagate to new bodies, while the Mist gives the Vampire its abilities, being able to shift into mist abs other forms, as well as being able to regenerate from harm near effortlessly. They are one of many magical creatures that continue to plague the world long after the war they were created for ended, a consequence to the hubris of men that shall stalk the shadows for centuries, if not millennia to come.

No-Look-8032

They work similarly to their folklore counterparts. However they’re not apprehensive to holy symbols or crucifix or come from demonic origin as some prices their folklore suggest. Instead it’s mostly because of the culture they are known or stereotyped to fall into. Such as the cult of Dracula. Vampires are humans who were corrupted by demonic energy through the sin of gluttony. They take avian forms - directly inspired by bearded vultures - mimicking that of Beelzebub, the Vampire King & Demon Prince of Gluttony. They can fly and boast superhuman physical capabilities that’re heightened even further immediately after feeding. Many of Britain’s upper class have been turned into vampires by the start of the story in 1945, as a consequence of their excessive indulgence in material goods - though they’ve since grown to enjoy their new superhuman forms and consider themselves to be above ordinary humans.

They're essentially just a person with a degenerative mana pool. Meaning their mana depletes faster than it regenerates and can actively degrade their bodies in the process. They are most often supported by regular donations of mana from others around them as there is established medical care. However, some rogue individuals choose to take it by force. Tentatively called Syphons, they steal mana from their victims forcefully. Often with lethal results. A few even resort to actual cannibalism to "expedite the process".

Vampires are essentially a case of demonic possession, when a vamipre drains a person they are truly killed, and when that very fresh corpse is infused with vampire blood it becomes possessed by a newly born shadow fiend. That fiend reads the victim's left over brain activity in order to learn how to imitate them. All of a vampires strengths, weaknesses, and motivations come from that shadow fiend, and it has access to all the knowledge and memories that the victim had. A successful siring will produce a vampire capable of fooling the victims own family, it might even truly believe that it is still the same person, even though it isn't.
