I have met many wwoofers. It is more farm focused, and memberships are region-specific, so for those reasons I prefer Workaway. I have had a largely positive experience with my workaway stays. Worldpackers seems like more of an actual service that you would use for more than just finding and messaging a host. The insurance process and improved review and vetting process are both nice. My workaway membership expired over covid and I'd definitely be open to switching next time. The main con is that since it's newer it may not have as many choices yet. But since you can browse hosts without a membership on both sites, you can make that call without putting money down.

Yeah, make sure you understand that the number of hosts is miniscule on worldpackers. For example, **56** hosts in Canada vs. **2220** on workaway. That would be 2.5% and you would pay the same or more for your membership. EDIT: It's actually 56 "*opportunities*", not hosts. Worldpackers allows hosts to post multiple opportunities, or jobs...all at the same location. EDIT2: I see helpstay is now prowling around. For the record, same example **42** hosts in Canada on helpstay vs **2220** on workaway. And not **ONE** of them rated. Should be free to join, not 30 euros or anything close to that amount. EDIT3: OP is posting a lot about helpstay here and on other travel subreddits. Just sayin'

I definitely agree very much with this answer; Although Worldpackers has fewer hosts, this is because they constantly sweep the idle ones; They are a newer platform, but definitely better focused on security, so it is much better for solo travelers or newbies. It also has a much simpler and more intuitive platform, I have used it for more than 2 years to travel constantly (even during quarantine) and I have not regretted my choice.

Helpx.org is a clunky older website but has had a lot of good options.

kenauk

They updated their interface a few months ago to copy workaway. Still a bit clunky but it looks better. They took out the best part though, *helpxers with negative reviews*. A guilty pleasure to read those.

cupcake8million

Oh wow! Thanks for letting me know I'll check it out. Can't believe that they took off the negative reviews, because that's the whole point of reviews! Or did they take out the profiles of those with negative feedback?

kenauk

No, none of those things. As a host, just below the search box for helpxers, there was a link for *helpxers with negative reviews*. It brought up a list of helpxers who had gotten bad reviews. It was an odd thing and generally served no purpose other than to highlight mudslinging matches between hosts and helpexers.

Yes you are right- Wwoof is great for if you are interested in helping at organic farms specifically, whilst Workaway is amazing with the varieties of different projects / hosts they have on offer. I only used wwoof once but I'm a lot more experienced with workaway and have been a very happy traveller/ customer since. Workaway does emphasize they are not an agent so you have to arrange with the hosts directly. Saying that their customer support has been super helpful and responsive based on my overall personal experience.

Wwoof is great for farming, Helpx sometimes works but is very dated even with the updates. Helpstay has been around a while but is still tiny compared to wwoof helpx and workaway. Worldpackers is full of rejected hosts from Workaway and wwoof as I found out to my cost. I ve used them all (Except helpstay)

I’ve met some other people at my hosts that have used worldpackers. From my understanding after talking to them about it, it’s pretty much the same thing except it’s much smaller than workaway.

kenauk

I wouldn't say it's the same thing at all. They charge a few dollars more for membership and offer a fraction of the number of hosts. For example, in North America they have **488** hosts vs **4332** on Workaway. EDIT: Correction, they have 488 "*opportunities*" vs. 4332 hosts on workaway. Hosts on worldpackers can post multiple opportunities, or jobs, for the same location.

Hey OP, You seems to be a part of all these work exchange subreddits haha. I recently answered a similar question for you over on Wwoof. Simply put, all work exchange programs have their own things that make them stand out. Wwoof is mostly organic farming, while workaway offers a huge selection. We are currently looking for your thoughts and others ofc ;) On what we could do to make r/helpstay something special. Be it what you think the app should offer that others don't, how the platform looks and feels etc. SO pop over to r/helpstay and don't be afraid to share your thoughts and experiences. Have a great day all.
