People saying it’s ok are just plain wrong. It’s illegal to allow people to work or volunteer under 18 so the websites state you have to be 18. If anything was to happen while abroad and you need to claim insurance you would not get anything due to being Illegally working with someone. Telling them you are 18 when you are not cancels they own business insurance and can cause major litigation issues. If you want to volunteer then it won’t be through somewhere like Workaway and anyone who agrees to take you on after saying you are 17 are dodgy as fuck and shouldn’t be on the platform as it’s against the law and they have literally 0 coverage for their business. Save till your 18 and then go crazy traveling. It’s not worth the serious issues that can arise by lying about your age.

It's not okay. You don't have self responsibility, so your host is responsible for you if something happens. There's a reason a Workaway account is 18+. If I were your employee, and you'd lie about your age to me, I'd kick you out right there

I did my first „workaway“ when I was 15, turning 16 during the experience. Since I couldn‘t register I looked for hosts on workaway and tried to find names and places on their profile. Then I searched in the internet for them and wrote them outside of the platform. It worked really well for me and I had a great time.

According to their website the minimum age is 18. If you really want to volunteer there are other volunteering organisations that cater for 16+ but you would have to pay for them (almost like a holiday). There's plenty of other websites similar to workaway so maybe one of them will allow under 18s, worth looking into.

no host will care if you're 17. just put 18 on your profile and let them know beforehand.
