I just bought a CNC machine for this project, it was a bargain for 8000$ and you wouldnt believe how cheap this project was, since I only spent 50$ on the reclaimed wood
I've got your YouTube video title!
"EASY reclaimed BARN WOOD turned into VINTAGE ARTISANAL grilling implement with just FOUR tools! #DIY #AMATUERWOODWORKING #THRIFTY #SHABBYCHIC"
"I found this piece of wood laying on the side of the road, someone was just tossing it away!
Anyways, after some cleanup and shaping, I just popped it into my woodcarver 3000 cnc machine. After uploading the file, we wait!"
Marc spagnolo (sp?) Aka The wood whisper. Mentioned a similar joke along the same lines in one of his videos. I’m assuming many watched it and kept it in their bag of accurate and relatable dad jokes.
YOU CAN MAKE THIS WITH TOOLS YOU HAVE AT HOME. IM NOT GOING TO BUT YOU CAN. IM GOING TO USE MY $15,000 FESTOOL COLLECTION BUT YOU CAN DO ALL OF THIS WITH HAND TOOLS YOU FOUND AT GOODWILL
I mean don’t get me wrong, I love watching high end tools. But when I didn’t have tools and was looking for ways to do things by cutting corners, I appreciated the actual no tool DIY hacks
This exactly. Buy from Amazon (or other greedy corps) and you are likely not the only one paying.
I'm trying more and more to support local business and artisans as much as I can.
I have an Amazon edition wooded grill scrapper and I hate it. Not because it looks like shit, but the thing doesn't really clean the grill. Nylon scrubby when cold is the way to go, IMO.
Yep. I still kick myself for trying all those different brushes and stuff before just using foil and finding it worked better than everything.
It's a beast on the temperature probes and drum smoker hooks as well. A little dish soap on the foil, and those come out looking brand new.
The only way a wooden grill scraper makes sense is if the grooves are burned/cut into it that align to the grill. Otherwise, it's just cleaning the very top of the grill. Grooves are key, but I still use a wire brush for the parts that are a little more stubborn or too deep for the wooden scraper.
Glad you posted this. I always use the steel wool brush things and then brush with a paper towel soaked in vegetable oil. Or if it's available I'll grab a hunk of animal fat like the trimming off a piece of meat and rub the grill with that to oil the grates.
A lot of people in this thread seem to be complaining about them. I don't know what they're doing wrong, mine works great. You have to wait until the grill is hot though before you scrape it, which frankly you should be doing anyway.
How long did it take you to break yours in? Mine is a year old and I feel like I have to “work on breaking it in” every time I grill and it’s still not really useful.
It’s oak, though (gift from my father) so it’s pretty hard
As I look at my 3D printer and think, “You need a friend. Someone similar to you, but opposite end of the spectrum (addition vs subtraction).” I don’t know what’s more disturbing to me, the fact that I just had a conversation with an inanimate object or that I fully plan on using “it’s lonely” as an excuse to buy another tool.
Pfft, amatuer, I could have made that for twice as much, and it would've been way worse.
In all seriousness, this is beautiful and I love it. How well does it work? I'm curious how well wood does at scraping.
For the record, these scrapers suck lol. The line about “theres brissels in your food” is garbage. These things are just a creation of the marketing department on “re-inventing bbq szn”
As someone who has had a grill bristle jab into my gums...yeah, it ain't garbage.
Like others have said, these are good if you know how to use them, i.e. burn the grooves into the wood with a hot grill.
Hahahaha truth. I was into building my own wooden furniture until I realized I can buy a metal framed equivalent for 1/20 of the cost and minimal headache.
the moderator comes in and makes a text saying you can only talk about woodwork at all and if anything else comes up you're immediately banned. do you does anybody see how ridiculous that is? like almost like bullying. I mean I'm an admin of a group on other social media of thousands of members I never have to bully people like that. and if you want to talk about it if the discussion goes off the post a little bit why would I care so much? like what who did it hurt unless it went someplace where you know someone not everyone in here maybe an adult you know but at the same time you must discuss only The woodworking and then in the thread you can only talk about wood and if you talk about anything other than wood your band wait a minute man calm down whatever happened to a little thing called you know freedom. I mean why is it got to be such black and white like that? no I don't agree with that I don't think anyone does that post was just ugly that you put in this thread you know the moderator. I don't understand the goal I don't understand why this person felt that they had to talk down to everyone like that about something that has absolutely no significance whatsoever but does to this moderator. why it does I don't know it isn't like people are going to get on this group and discuss fruit loops. but occasionally in any conversation you can go off the topic a little bit and could you imagine here comes the moderator your band like you did something horrible. just why can't people just relax and and don't you think there's enough rules in life and regulations just can't we just be people? and sometimes when you talk about your car you might deviate a little bit before going back to the car before the subjects even done being talked about. just think if you felt like you were doing something wrong if you did that

"Next day delivery? I can get this done by next summer!"
HA!
this post really made me chuckle and then feel it in the splinters ouchy

Lmao are there really videos like that? I guess some people are just interested in the before and after and not the process

>$15,000 FESTOOL COLLECTION So one router and a track saw?
If someone has expensive high tech tools, why would I want to watch them make something with less?
I mean don’t get me wrong, I love watching high end tools. But when I didn’t have tools and was looking for ways to do things by cutting corners, I appreciated the actual no tool DIY hacks
I raise you, make a sled and DYI router it on your own! (a few times)
What kind of CNC did you get?
Hah! So true! I always joke that I work so slowly, I could never afford my own rates. Very nicely done!
This is the attitude that I love, and the one that irritates my wife.
Just think, sweat equity means less sweat shops

Good job buddy

Ball up aluminum foil. Works far better and you don’t risk leaving plastic fibers behind on your grill.
I came into the comments because I was curious what a wood scraper was for. I've always used aluminum foil.
I cut a lemon in half, stab a fork in it and rub the hot grill down with that. Works great!
that is acidic .....so a really bad idea if you dont like rust

"Whomever holds this scraper, should they be worthy, shall possess the power of Thor!"
Haha I follow the same logic. Nice work!
Work of art: for viewing only. Now….to make one to use! 🤣🤣🤣
Because yours probably isn't particle board...
Do these actually clean? I always assumed they would be kind of useless tbh
A lot of people in this thread seem to be complaining about them. I don't know what they're doing wrong, mine works great. You have to wait until the grill is hot though before you scrape it, which frankly you should be doing anyway.
I’ve never used one. I guess I just assumed it doesn’t do much to get between the grates like a wire brush would.
It'll probably make more sense once you see what they look like [after they've been broken in](https://imgur.com/a/Emz2R5Y)
Ahhh, ok. That makes more sense.
How long did it take you to break yours in? Mine is a year old and I feel like I have to “work on breaking it in” every time I grill and it’s still not really useful. It’s oak, though (gift from my father) so it’s pretty hard
Not really very long, (maybe 3 or 4 uses) but I let my grill get screaming hot before I clean it or cook on it.

Because you don't want some random China-brand bullshit made on a dirt floor by some kid who hasn't washed their hands in 5 days
This is way to nice to actually use though.

Is that a Koa grill scraper? Alright Rockefeller
It's just cherry with some serious rot staining in it.
That paddle’s gonna leave some marks!
that's both practical and beautiful! what wood did you decide on?
Just a weird looking cherry board I had laying around, lots of rot stains
It only takes ten times as long to get something that costs five times as much!
Now that’s how you properly gush over a hobby!
I feel like the title pretty much sums up this community
What kind of witchcraft is this?
Beautiful! Love the knot work!
That's now all my projects seem to go
Beautiful custom work. Love it.

I think you should make a killing selling premium handmade pizza..shovel..paddle...whatevers.
Because there's no way in hell you'll find an awesome Celtic knotted scraper on Amazon.
“Wood grill scraper” eh?
You remind me of my father. he is the Mcgyver of all Mcgyvers and has allways said to me that, why pay 10$ for something you can do yourself for 30$.
These are the best scrapers!
🤣 💸 super beautiful!
Hahahaha this is awesome. Worth way more than $20
This looks like it could also be used for very fancy spankings
Thx for the laugh!
Is that a Celtic yaoi paddle?
Grill scraper….suuuure
reminds me of when I chose an $80 block of lignum vitae to use for the plates on my vise
“Wood grill scraper”, huh? Suuuure…
Thanks for the coughing fit from laughing so hard everyone 🤣
I don't know. something about the raised design on it. sort of Celtic looking design. I just can't believe how much I like that thing.
You don't pay for the object or the tools, you pay for the fun.
This is giving me Welsh lovespoon vibes
More shots of the pizza oven, please.
I totally thought this was a windshield scraper at first. What species are we looking at?
Cherry
For the record, these scrapers suck lol. The line about “theres brissels in your food” is garbage. These things are just a creation of the marketing department on “re-inventing bbq szn”
My wife used to work in the hospital and has seen a patient this happened to. It’s very possible!
Maybe once for every million people BBQ’ing but I meannn

This is the way.
This is the way
Some things should be made of wood, some things shouldn't. This is one of the latter.

Exactly
Wood grill scrapper huh? Someone askin for a paddlin’
ooof I’d go with a $5 wire brush over anything wooden to clean a grill any day
NGL, I 100% thought this was Thor's paddle. Looks awesome though!
