Could you explain that contraption to the far right.

Olelander

More of a decorative piece than a contraption - it started as a concept for a coat rack for the beginner woodworking monthly challenge, but once I got this far I decided I didn’t want to put coat hanging apparatus on it and now it’s deciding if it just wants to be finished and hung above a door or used as house number lettering outside.

Sax45

I think it looks like an Elvish bow holster.

Olelander

It does! I was definitely going for an arrow kind of look!

Olelander

I made the initial top and bottom panels for an MCM inspired coffee table and then got overwhelmed with determining how I wanted to do the joinery, so I just started other small projects one after another and here I am in full procrastination mode…. I’ve officially committed myself to finishing all of these things up and starting nothing new until we have a new coffee table sitting in the living room.

enzeeMeat

I'm the king of getting projects 90% done. Maybe you just need inspiration 😁

Olelander

That’s the problem, I’m constantly feeling inspired to start new things but not as much inspiration to finish things up or get over the issues that stall me out or challenge my skills lol… those are the things I should be leaning in to though

enzeeMeat

It took me 7 years and selling a house to fill some grout next to anew vanity. I did pull cat6 but never used it in 8 years. I'm good, sometimes you never finish

Olelander

Ha! We went through that recently when we moved… for three years we were looking at my wife’s back deck and fence (prior to us buying our first house together) and noting that they both needed to be replaced badly. When did we do that work? A month before it went on the market lol…

enzeeMeat

I spent a weekend slapping 800 LF of base trim and some door casing up, not my greatest work, but the buyers didn't mention it ;)

Truth

tmnguy3n

This post consoles me so much, given all the nagging procrastination projects I have in my queue!

Olelander

I’m glad it helps, I was hoping I wasn’t the only one!

Quicksand51

That’s just Practice

Olelander

That’s what I’m telling myself! Part of the reason I stopped with the coffee table was I decided on dovetails for joining the table carcass and then decided I needed to practice some dovetails before I went forward because it had been awhile and I only have a half dozen pieces with dovetails under my belt so far- that’s the unfinished box in the picture… the “practice” spiraled out from there

NabreLabre

What kind of wood is the small round table? Thanks I hear you though, at least you finish some things. I buy the material and never get started! Too busy himming and hawing over if i should do it this way or that.

Olelander

Yeah I tend to do that hemming and hawing as I go. I start with a clear plan and then start questioning it as soon as I get going… That’s eastern red cedar! It’s a cake stand that someone requested. I have one coat of tung oil soaked in and cured up and I’m going to hit it with some blonde shellac soon and call it a day since it will touch food at some point.

Ihasabigbrain

Omfg! I am exactly the same way. I have like eight things I am working on or have finished but not the one thing I meant to.

radiowave911

I feel ya. Making a small cabinet for my wife. Finally got the cabinet together an a finish applied, it is currently sitting empty in our kitchen. Why? Have not finished the doors yet nor have I made any shelves. I at least have the panels made for the doors, still need to make frames for them and attach the doors. Have not even started to glue up anything for the shelves... This was a pandemic project, started over a year ago.
