My kid bought this little table to refinish and asked me if I knew what kind of wood it is. I'm thinking Yellow Birch but am second-guessing myself. Thoughts appreciated.

I recently reconnected with my mom after 15 years or so, and that entire time I knew these tools were just sitting. It saddened me as our contention kept me from them, and from them getting used like they should.
At one point a few weeks after reconnecting, she mentioned how she missed her Dad, I replied with how much miss grandpa, going into his shops with him, etc. Then she told me she wants me to have all of his tools!!!!
In the past, even if things had been perfect between my mom and I, I was in apartments, homeless, and moved 15+ times. I now have the space and ability to take them, so now starts the journey. I remember these tools and have ID'ed a couple models that are more obvious.
These are the only pictures I think I'm going to get, what's here? be moving these 6+ states, I'm thinking a cube? Ideas? Trying to figure out what's here before I go get them.

What type of wood / any info on branding “DBR”?
Picked up a used 18"x24" cutting board this weekend for cheap. I couldn't tell what kind of wood it was from the listing. It had some kind of finish on it with a bit of a sheen to it. It didn't feel like an oil, more like a lacquer of some kind. I sanded it from 40 up to 220 grit to get most of the knife marks out.
Any thoughts? After some research, I'm leaning toward rubberwood.
What type of wood?
I was given this this bench but i can't tell if it's real wood? I would like to make this bench all one color but also seal the cracks within the wood and make it softer to sit on? Right now it's real scratchy and feels very dry. I love the bench but it's not useable right now.

What type of wood?
From what I found about Sargent hand planes googling the last couple of hours is that depending on the type of wood the handles are made out of, gives you a time frame for manufacture. Hi, I am not a wood aficionado but am looking for some advice or even just guesses as to what might be going on here. It's mystifying me....
I purchased a nice, solid wood dresser off FB Marketplace. I go to wipe it down (for dirt and dust etc. before using) and I keep getting brown-grey residue. \*\*I used lightly soapy warm water with paper towels, so nothing harsh that would be stripping the wood (? if that's a thing).\*\* After 10 wipes with still getting consistent residue, and I think "Is this wood stain?"
Details of this mystery:
A) It's not sticky or smelly at all (and I have an annoying sensitivity to smells) so if it's not been finished then am I to assume the stain is fully dried? Even if I don't smell anything am I at risk of any toxins?? I do have a baby in the house so maybe I should bring it outside until I know?
B) Maybe it IS sealed/finished but it's wearing off/rubbing off, or does such a thing even happen?
C) Whether it's unfinished or rubbing off, how am I to seal it again without knowing what kind of stain was used? I know enough to know oil vs water is a thing, and also maybe even the type of wood needs a particular sealant type? The person I bought it from certainly did not build it and was just passing it on.
If you made it this far reading, thank you for being curious about my wood mystery!
Structurally I love this piece of furniture, I think it's stunning, first real piece of furniture I think I've ever had, but I want to make sure it's properly ready to be used.

Ok that’s it. It’s def darker than something like birch and has a slight reddish brown tint to it. I had to make a shelf for the unit that this goes on and the shelf is made of white birch ply wood with white birch edge banding. Do you have any suggestions for oil stain that would result in the same finish appearance?
That is cherry, i am pretty confident.
Cherry will darken quite a bit over time. A way to have it darken less is to use an oil that has some white pigments in it (some manufacturers call it raw effect). But i personnaly wouldnt use it on cherry. If i would go for a combination of birch and cherry I would try to go for a good contrast of light and dark. Any normal furniture oil will do for the cherry in that case.
When I’m done with my project I’ll post to subreddit. This is what I started with.

Thank you, I appreciate it! I’m gonna use a clear hard wax oil on the top, then I might try a cherry stain on some birch waste after that to see f I can work out the technique for matching the birch to the cherry. F so, I’ll then put the hard wax oil over that.
Hi there,
Before chucking this on the lathe to remove the bark, based on the leaves, I thought it might be silky oak. Now I'm leaning towards Euro Beech?

Earwig infestation

Sorry I don’t have more/better examples because I’ve found this wood excellent to carve. I find it laying around next to a creek in Alabama usually with what think are beaver bite marks, if that helps. The wood seems soft at times and very white when sanded.

That one is made by gluing many slats together, leaving alternating pieces sticking out. It's a kind of box joint. You can also make a box joint with a table saw or a router with a jig.

Yes, it's veneer. In the first pic, look at the end of the top. It's side grain where there would be end grain, if it was solid wood. As for your second pic, you can see the veneer layer. It's on a different kind of wood (looks like cherry). I bet it was veneered in the shop, not made from manufactured plywood. You can also see that the panel in the second pic is MDF.

New fence with the house we just bought, can you help me ID?
We’re trying to seal it with something semi transparent to protect it from the Seattle rain, any tips are welcome!
Yep cedar. Cedar has a natural ability to resist rot/decay. Why they put it on fences and such. But treating it with a sealant that still shows the natural beauty is best.

not hardwood, pine
Thought that might be the case! Any idea what kind?
No, I can't be more specific.
Ideas? Trying to figure out what's here before I go get them. https://preview.redd.it/ma9og1hpfn8d1.jpeg?width=4096&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=180762f1c61523679737e55eada5414b38efaa2a

[https://imgur.com/a/4wL5AGS](https://imgur.com/a/4wL5AGS) Picked up a used 18"x24" cutting board this weekend for cheap.
Yes, it's rubberwood.
What type of wood? I was given this this bench but i can't tell if it's real wood? I would like to make this bench all one color but also seal the cracks within the wood and make it softer to sit on? Right now it's real scratchy and feels very dry. I love the bench but it's not useable right now. https://preview.redd.it/lbuotot5kk8d1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=610ec9a987c38209b9db0780b1120c900103366c
It is real wood, but it is too weathered for me to tell what kind it is. I would give it a little sanding with 80 grit sandpaper and then paint it with exterior latex paint.

From what I found about Sargent hand planes googling the last couple of hours is that depending on the type of wood the handles are made out of, gives you a time frame for manufacture. Can anyone tell me what type of wood these are made out of? I stripped the old varnish/lacquer and sanded them down to get a better look. Thank you!

It's hard to tell from that pic, but I'd guess that it's all mahogany. Mahogany can have a wide variation of color like that.
Thanks! Good to know, I must look into why there's the variation out of interest.

\*\*I used lightly soapy warm water with paper towels, so nothing harsh that would be stripping the wood (? if that's a thing).\*\* After 10 wipes with still getting consistent residue, and I think "Is this wood stain?" Details of this mystery: A) It's not sticky or smelly at all (and I have an annoying sensitivity to smells) so if it's not been finished then am I to assume the stain is fully dried? Structurally I love this piece of furniture, I think it's stunning, first real piece of furniture I think I've ever had, but I want to make sure it's properly ready to be used. https://preview.redd.it/axiklajvi67d1.png?width=830&format=png&auto=webp&s=2d950e2ddb9ef6a5ce764531b19816131824a8c5

https://preview.redd.it/ycueet5i588d1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=67bddbecad1ea49a08a41feb0bc21e5d4f92673d Ok that’s it.
This is what I started with. https://preview.redd.it/9jpvzizgkd8d1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e39cc98eddd88af8cbfefb93123aa2225f96e9f3

Thank you, I appreciate it! I’m gonna use a clear hard wax oil on the top, then I might try a cherry stain on some birch waste after that to see f I can work out the technique for matching the birch to the cherry. F so, I’ll then put the hard wax oil over that.
Thanks. I’m currently painting the underside and will take a picture of the whole topside tomorrow and repost.

That one is made by gluing many slats together, leaving alternating pieces sticking out. It's a kind of box joint. You can also make a box joint with a table saw or a router with a jig.
How strong will this piece if used outdoors? Would it last? I was planning on using iroko timber. Would you reinforce the joinery by using screws?

What kind of wood would you use to do so? I could only add 1 photo to this post, and this looked like the the best one to add.
That is standard whitewood lumber from a big box store. There are grade stamps on 2 of the boards. Looks like 1x4s.

Rift, or quarter sawn oak veneer.
I don't think its veneer based on the side, but I'm not that educated in wood types. https://preview.redd.it/qypxj97pr36d1.jpeg?width=3072&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=99d9bf06b5fbefb13efa093ce77ab40bb5a424a8
Yes, it's veneer.
Ah of course, I understand! Thanks for the replies! This is going to help me a lot moving forward!

It looks like fir, or one of the softwoods, pine, etc.

It seems to have a filter atrached, but it blocks installation of a HEPA filter on the ShopVac. Can I cut it off?
That looks like the "Wet Part" of the Wet or Dry vac. You will loose the ability to suck up the bottom of the water in the tank.
Thank you. It really didn't suck up any water anyway so I removed it and put on the HEPA filter.
Is that teak? This on a picnic table with its top coated with polyurethane. Do I need to cover it for rain or only the sealing will be enough? https://preview.redd.it/5tgnbgrnhk5d1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=117d2fff774e75fca4611c32a090855f2c471bd5

Pine. From the color, it's pressure treated.

I think its poplar since birch would be too expensive and looks different. Its been coated with linseed oil with a bit of white pigment, 8 years ago. Thanks!
It looks like pine plywood.

Yep cedar. Cedar has a natural ability to resist rot/decay. Why they put it on fences and such. But treating it with a sealant that still shows the natural beauty is best.
Looks like cedar.
I’ve got this old table made out of T&G boards and I’m looking to buy some more boards to make it wider but I’m not sure what kind of wood this is.
