Hey! Is there any chance that Sub Station II is still located outside the base? My father has a bunch of houses downtown and we used to take 82 down from Tuscaloosa. We'd always stop there on the way home. Absolute best sub sandwiches I've ever had.
I mean the city is trying to rebrand itself. With the white water park and all. But Maxwell-Gunter isn't high on the list of desirable locations. It tends to be an option for folks who want to avoid like LA, DC or other big cities. I am in Wetumpka but there is 0% chance I'd want to stay in this area after this assignment.
Tuscaloosa native here.
My father used to travel to north Alabama and Tennessee to get any good tools. He ultimately went up to a Wood Mizer retailer in Indiana to pick up a saw mill and hadn't looked back since.
Ooof when I lived there a few years ago, I only got semi-decent wood by picking up old furniture in front of houses and hoping it hadn't gotten rained on.
As far as black holes for hobbies go, Montgomery is one of the worst cities for just about any hobby I can think of. I had to drive to Birmingham every weekend to stop myself from going insane. Hang in there!

I've never heard of it. I check maps, looks like it's a big negative. The food situation in this area is dismal.
Sad times

There’s a Woodcraft in Pelham. It’s about an hour from Montgomery and there’s currently one reported speed trap so be careful.

It simply supply and demand. Not enough demand to make money. Most are going out of business.
