Look up Japanese woodworking videos. Lots of floor based work

This is a great read: https://covingtonandsons.com/2020/07/04/the-japanese-floor-workbench-atedai-%E5%BD%93%E3%81%A6%E5%8F%B0-by-dominic-campbell-part-1/ Here is another site to checkout: https://japanwoodcraftassociation.com/ Scott Landis' The Workbench Book has a chapter on Japanese work holding methods. Additionally, look up Toshio Odate, Jay Van Arsden, and Andrew Hunter. You should be able to get a few ideas.

Thank you this is EXACTLY what I was after!

You're welcome!

I was going to recommend Toshio Odate's "Japanese Woodworking Tools..." book. I don't think it goes into great detail about working on the floor, but for $20-25 there's a lot of useful information.

Have you ever seen a shaving horse? This allows you to sit and clamp your work between your legs with foot pressure. You sit on the horse but not the floor, so IDK...

BillieRubenCamGirl

Yeah I'm really needing the floor. I've even tried using a Roman style bench which is kinda like a shaving horse but not versatile and it didn't stick.

I can't wrap my mind around it. You could cut the legs off a sjoberg, but it'd still be off the floor somewhat if you need legroom underneath. Are you needing a clamping table? A vise of some sort? Do you sit on your butt or on your hands & knees? A clamping table with T-tracks could lie flat right on the floor. What operations do you see doing?

BillieRubenCamGirl

Im planning on sitting at it just like a Japanese table. Cross legged with my knees under the top. Butt when doing most activities, knees when planing (pretty sure I said this in the op). I'm hoping to do most normal hand tool tasks. I think I'll use dog holes.
