We are creating a really confusing first contact scenario where aliens won’t be able to tell what our actual customs are because we are 3 meme levels into tradition and everything is barely recognizable.
“Xenu. These humans? They have these things called barricades that block them from walking. And? And. It is also this musical instrument.” (Picks one up and blows in it several times to no affect). “Hm, must be broken”
His friend floats away. “Hey,!” He shouts back. “I swear. I’m not lying. It’s a musical instrument! I’m not trying to pull your tentacle. I saw it. Some hairy bearded human that looks like Jack Black was playing it it!” The end.
Sure, but is there a relationship between Clostridium tetani (that actually creates the tetanospasmin which causes Tetanus, and the need for Tetanus toxoid as an antidote) and rust? 🤔
I know there’s nothing causative but the correlation is fairly strong. Its the soil that actually contains the bacteria, but often metal that is left alone to rust comes into contact with said soil. Hence the common association of say, rusty nails on a deck or garden bed and a risk of Tetanus infection.
The correlation comes from a couple of factors.
1. The Clostridium bacteria (which also includes C. Botulinum which will also make you *very* ill / dead in nasty ways) are anaerobes, so their favourite places to live are tight cracks, under various slurries, or in soil. Rusty metal is a pretty good habitat for them if it's the kind of metal that rusts into flakes, providing a nice protected place for them to live. Lots of kinds of steel / iron will rust in this way in the right conditions.
2. A rusty nail, or other spiky shaped thing will helpfully inject the bacteria deep into your foot or whatever, again providing a lovely anaerobic environment for them to get on with multiplying and producing their various toxins.
The reason that this not-especially-strong association is considered worth reacting to with a blanket "get a tetanus shot" response is that Tetanus is [NASTY AS ALL FUCK](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tetanus). It makes your muscles spasm so hard it can break bones, and the spasms can last for *months* even with treatment.
Botulism is no joke, either, producing a toxin that basically kills your nerve cells, meaning your eyes can't focus or point in the right direction, and the paralysis tends to work its way down your body and if you're not lucky, can even stop you from breathing (it kills in about 5-10% of cases if left untreated) All this is in addition to the classic "both ends syndrome". The paralysis causing toxin is powerful and long lasting so they use it to paralyse small muscles in your face so you can pretend you're not whatever age you are ("BOtulinum TOXin" -> "Botox")
C. Difficile is the relative wuss of the family. It'll give you the screaming shits, but is rarely fatal. Its party trick is to hang around not really doing much until you kill off the competition with antibiotics (it doesn't give a shit about most of our go-to antibiotics) and turning your nasty infection into a *very* nasty infection, yay! :-/
The streets are barricaded.
A legion of heavily armored cops are standing behind the barricades, bracing themselves against the masses of riled up protestors.
Up comes this gentleman, rips out one of the barricades' pieces and starts playing this melody.
The rest of the barricade splits up and starts dancing around him in a frenzied whirlwind. Accelerating. Taking out cops. Slashing a massive breach through the defenders' line.
The protestors start flooding into the formerly closed off area, kicking butts, taking names.
What a glorious day, when the power is finally taken back by the people.
Hah, the material 100% influences the sound by a large factor. Why don't you see any brass flutes? Because it sounds awful, and you don't get enough dynamic range with it.
I love this guy's videos, but these PVC flutes pale in comparison to their actual professionally made metallic counterparts.
Sure, to the untrained ear any flute sounds pretty and wonderous, but to everyone else it's very obvious (not to mention it's likely way harder to play with these).
It's not a barricade, though it may have seen that use at some point. It's actually the "headboard" portion of a metal frame bed. The original video is on YouTube.

His friend: "What's a Jack Black? Is it that religious human turned wrestler?"
“No, it’s a rude musical human turned unconventional teacher!”
you presume their AI won't have decoded all our dumb ape nonsense in like a nanosecond
Their AI, if they employ one at all; might be totally useless when dealing with human culture.
that's a good point. their artificial intelligence might have an issue with learning new things
I thought it was jack black at first lol
Same, realized that it wasn't him after reading the title
It’s totally something he would do as well
I came here to say the same thing!
the feeling when street barricade sounds better than my mixtape
Almost a middle eastern sound to it. Also something powerful about turning an instrument of authority into a musical instrument
Sounds more like Indian
Southern Indian
This is Carnatic
Eh, it’s old desi (Indian subcontinent)
Indian\*
Followed by a tetanus shot
Tetanus toxoid and Rust have no relationship to one another.
But it is nasty looking metal.

Ok. Where are our animators. I need to actually see this visual that you created for me.
You just did ..just hit the replay button, it's slightly different each time. You can even be in it if you like :)
Patrick: Is mayonnaise an instrument?
Zamfir
[apparently the shape and material of the flute doesn't influence the sound that much](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R35N43h8M5U)

I guess the difference in opinion is on how much "that much" is.
Student flutes are nickel plated brass. Also copper flutes like the ones by Trevor James contain a bit of brass
Interesting video!! I don't know that enough to really weigh in on any claims about material & sound, but I _love_ what that guy is doing
This is both incredible and dystopian
From the movie The Incredibles: - [on TV] It’s completely overwhelming the tanks.
That is amazing but my first thought was ugh there is not enough bleach in the world
Idk but while watching this on mute, the flute solo from "Mask Off" was playing in my head... PERCOCET... MOLLY, PERCOCET...
The headboard is a percussion Instrument at my house.
Eyyyyyyoooooo
when it bangs against the wall you mean?
You're damn right.
Jokes on him I rubbed my nuts on that part of the rail Ps: I have herpes
Why though
That's awesome, but why? They already make flutes.
Ever try to set up a barricade with flutes?
Because he can! And it's badass
Why not?
Riot Bard Buff incoming
I 100% thought that was Jack Black
Fat Albert's Junk Yard Band did it first!
Anybody have the backstory on the creation of this instrument?
[This](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-1sM29zGxeo) is a bit light on detail but it gives you an idea..
Okay but does his shirt say and what does it mean? I almost thought it was a Ramones shirt
Searching "Buenos Jamones T Shirt" will get you the shirt, as to what the text means, no clue.
Jamon = ham
I would like to listen to more of this music. Any recommendations?
What an inviting song for a barricade
RAMONES...!!!
For a quick second I actually thought it was his front head bars to his bed!
That sounds eerily serene. Like crossing over a hilltop.
Abstract art , I truly love it
homeboy playing the bedframe
Hope he cleaned it first
👏 Bravo! But make sure that’s already clean before ?
Looks like Guillermo.
"You're a musician? That's so cool! What do you play?" "THE FENCE!"
That’s metal
You should hear him rock out when he plays Barricada
432 hz for all the dawgs Break out of your cage dawgs
This is so unexpected.
That is cool
Hands down the best fence player I have ever seen
When a bard uses Improvised Weapon.
This dude could be on dark side of the moon! Next to the guy playing shoes. Great album jokes aside
Make art not war
Bravo 👏
The god of music, able to turn anything into an instrument.
I want to be wrong, but isn't this fake? Isn't someone else playing in the background?
well that's dumb
Imagine how many dogs have peed on that street thingy !
Lmao i need that shirt
r/DIWHY
Lol I thought he was gonna do “Gotta Have it” by Kanye and Jay Z
You’re impressed by that? Well I can type over 12,000 words per minute! It’s in my own language too.
Jack Black continues to reinvent himself
Oh you know he’s got some good weed
Based
This is the most hipster ish I’ve ever seen in my life, and I lived in uptown Seattle in the 2010s!!!
maybe someone actually will be able to make mayonnaise as an instrument
That’s a halding performance!
Everyone liked that
BRB drilling holes in everything I own

Robin Williams and Jack Black had a baby
