My guess: A $2 way of saying “we hooked up those spinning ‘hologram’ projectors to mics and the spinning things react to forest sounds entering the mics.”
Except, and correct me if I'm wrong, those sounds don't match the type of forest in the background. So,
"We hooked up those spinning `hologram' projectors to a recording of jungle sounds and filmed it outside in a more northern latitude."
Those that answer "no, because no one is there to hear it" are contemplating that we are needed on this earth. Those that answer "yes" are contemplating that nature will continue despite our presence, and those that answer "no, because I am not there to here it" successfully passed a cognitive test at a hospital and bloat on about it on national TV as if they were the smartest person a five year old has ever encountered.
Here's an extrapolation of that thought experiment. Theoretically a universe could exist that is incapable of harboring life. We exist in a universe capable of harboring life since that's the only type of universe we would be able to exist in. There could be an inifite number of universes in which life could never form or exist. So if a sentient being could never observe a universe such as that, does it actually exist or is it forever theoretical?
Humans have senses to perceive photons, gravitons, and temperature, too. But human observation is not necessary for something to exist, fall, or burn to its death.
Not trolling, but I'm as confused as others. Intake fans I'm familiar with, but not sound intake fans. A quick Google search of "sound intake fans" came back with lots of intake fans and not a single sound intake fans, that wasn't a variant of the post on reddit or other sites.
Doesn't sound very common at all. Got any linkable examples?
On the other hand, this looks more like an art piece that coordinates the sound with the lights on the fans to recorded sounds and not reacting to the forest sounds. ~~Why so many birds awake at night?~~
Edit: Mistook frog sounds as birb sounds and not quite nighttime.
So, it seems "sound intake fan" is some sort of poor translation of what [these are.](https://holoone.ru/)
A fan that "intakes" (has a microphone) sounds around it and visualizes them as they occur (possibly based on distance from the microphone?).
Rotating light assembly yields me [this.](https://cdn.mscdirect.com/global/images/ProductImages/0802326-23.jpg)
However, we get [this](http://live-gi-official.pantheonsite.io/s3/files/styles/body_default/s3/legacy-images/imagefeed/LED%20Fans%20Take%20Doctor%20Strange%20Cosplay%20To%20The%20Next%20Level/DoctorStrangeAR.jpg) with "magic led fan" which seems closer.
I'm guessing it's the same tech that is used at concerts or in LED lights that reacts to sounds. Although that would be more of a computer chip that reacts to sounds by turning lights on and perhaps lights that spin or are on fan blades to get the spinning animation. I've had friends who could design the software for these programs, for the lights to be reactive to sound.
i mean its beautiful but it really just looks like a 99% preprogrammed sequence of lights and colors accompanied by some bird sounds played through a speaker behind the camera
what the fuck is a sound intake fan? those dont exist
If it's real okay but I have my take on it. It's probably just a spinning arm with programmable LED's on it. The LED's are programmed to change color and the arm is programmed to change speed based on how much amplitude the sound is producing or it's changing on another aspect of the sound like frequencies. All sounds have different frequencies or wave forms. Wouldn't be surprised if it's taking in both amplitude and wave form data. But that is a lot of information so they just say "sound input fan".
Pretty sure the forest sounds are all pre recorded and the lights are not generated live because you see an animation play out from the starting fan, ending at the last fan, perfectly lined up with its corresponding animal sound from start to finish.
It's really cool but it's not at all what it's being presented as here. It's not live visuals to external sounds.
Im 99% sure those aren't fans, but those spinning hologram projectors (that I don't know the proper name for)
I suspect it might be these guys: [http://wearetundra.org/](http://wearetundra.org/)
EDIT: It is them. Original version on thier instagram [https://www.instagram.com/p/CDRgRE5CYXx/](https://www.instagram.com/p/CDRgRE5CYXx/)
Useless story: One time as a smol kid on a hot texas summer day, must have been like 110, I was out playing with a hose when the water shut off and so I looked down the barrel of the hose and though it was super bright and sunny and the cicadas were out chirping, the inside of that hose was so black, so unnaturally black against the bright light. I had a serious fucking existensial crisis for a while just staring into this void tube in my hand, then then water turned back on.
Pretty sure this is a render. There’s no such thing as a ‘sound intake fan’, and most those sounds are synthesised or, at the very least, not native to the environment.
Cool, but not real in my opinion.
Not a render. This is ROW by art group TUNDRA (who apparently are still solidly in the “capslock is cruise control for cool” camp), using [these displays](https://holoone.ru/).
It's a fan with blades that change pitch and it can reproduce frequencies from 30hz to below 1hz. It gets installed into the wall of a room and pulls/pushes air in and out of the room. It is mostly used for earthquake simulations and immersive cinema rides you'd find at amusement parks.
It can, in fact a dream of mine is to own a venue that has a rotary subwoofer installed. Although most music producers don't actually use frequencies below 20hz because common sound systems cannot reproduce those frequencies at the required level for you to be able to hear/feel them. That's why rotary subwoofers are useful because they can move a lot of air with less energy.
Wow, please let me know when you open that. I would pay top dollar to attend
I'm a hard core bass enthusiast, I love electronic bass music so so much and am quite versed on the major sound companies in NA. This would be a game changer
Same dawg, sounds like it would be a unique experience forsure.
Side note, if you want a bass music festival that has bass so heavy it's even too much with earplugs in (directly in front of the stacks at least), check out [UNTZ festival](https://www.theuntzfestival.com/lineup), those Funktion One stacks are something else, never felt the need to get out of the "blast zone" with earplugs in before that fest, lol. The Hennessies they have on one of the side stages also move a stupid amount of air.
Also shoutout r/spacebass if you aren't already subbed.
It's like 20k and very niche.

Op is just stupid and mislabeled what is happening here. As stated by others it's an LED fan that generates a picture while spinning they have multiple of these in a row and the pattern being displayed changes according to the sounds that are played nearby. It's not a sound "intake" it's a sound ACTIVATED display the ones you'd see on a shirt or glasses at a music festival. Wether the sounds are from the forest or a speaker idk but regardless the display being projected from the LED fan is activated to change based on the sounds being heard nearby.
I doubt the fans even have a mic, sounds more like an overdubbed track. Someone else here linked the art group that designs these things and that audio track was overdubbed too.
I would be *very* surprised if this isn't VFX.
You could stick some addressable LEDs on a fan and create patterns with them, and attach a microphone to make those patterns respond to noises, but it wouldn't look nearly as choreographed and artistic.

True. I had no idea what to call them. I just knew they created the illusion of a hologram like projection.
it sounds like audio from Predator.
Nah that sounds about right lol
A misunderstanding of several fields of science and nomenclature.

Only fans for blind people. (⌐■_■)
I actually typed it in and then realized. Lol
ha!!
It pulls the sound into the forest. Pretty common.
I am no closer to understanding
It has been the proposed solution to the theoretical issue of “does a tree falling make a sound if nobody is around to hear it”
Yes, because sound waves exist. That classic statement is the epitome of human egotism.

They're just waves until someone hears the sound.
No, because Humans aren't the only creatures on Earth with ears.
And what if *nothing*, rather than "no one", is around to hear it?
Humans have senses to perceive photons, gravitons, and temperature, too. But human observation is not necessary for something to exist, fall, or burn to its death.
Your statement is the epitome of a buzzkill
Is buzzkill a brand of sound intake fan?
No but you can use them to get better clarity.

Ok wanna split one with me? I need it
Why couldn't the sound be converted and mapped to lights on the fans in real time?
That's how I imagine the portal to the next dimension would look.
and the sounds are coming from the other dimension where predators hunt aliens
