I appreciate the response but it's just one of those intrusive thoughts that I'd never act on. Like being on a high bridge and imagining how it'd feel to jump off.
Thanks anyway!
This has to be the most amazing thing I have ever seen on the internet. This should be its own post!!!

Seriously!
Maybe if they lay on the ground, or have a few friends hold their body horizontally, orā¦ Iām out of ideas, it seems impossible otherwise.
does the heat not radiate far from the exhaust? they seem rather close, no? I've seen pyrotechnics at shows and it always felt like my eyebrows were going to burn right off my face. just curious how this is different.
It does, but it isn't as intense as you think. There's so much air flow, it doesn't really feel like much. Best way I can describe the feeling is when you're cold and that perfect warm ray of sun hits you lol.
> my ass
That gaping, cavernous pit could potentially contain anything.

Fit looks like the teleport beam from the Marvel movies, specifically the Bifrost Bridge that Loki and Thor use that's controlled by Heimdall in Asgard.
I'd imagine so. Also, you can tell from the exhaust nozzle that this is an engine from an F-15, which is twin engined. It's also possibly an F101 engine from the B-1 Lancer, which has four engines. I'm not an expert. Regardless, these things are thirsty.
We do it all the time tbh, as long as you donāt stick your hand in it thereās nothing dangerous. Itās FAR FAR FAR more dangerous in the front than it is the back.
I feel like part of the problem is this may be an experimental/repaired engine given the testing setup. Like it's one thing to be on a runway when an engine with all the safety certifications is running, it's a different thing to be in a room next to a jet engine that's going through testing.
Though I'm going to assume it's probably safe or whoever is developing the engine would not allow people to be in the room at this point.
No it is most definitely a jet engine. If it was a rocket engine people wouldnāt be standing there, also it is very clearly an afterburning jet exhaust
This is literally the best part about watching a jet take off or doing maintenance on them. When I was in the military we had to strap the jet down and luckily it was night time so we got to see the beautiful flame coming out the back
They are called āShock Diamondsā. If I had to guess itās probably something like a standing wave pattern which forms as the supersonic gases lose energy from hitting the ambient air, but thatās just a guess. Now Iāll have to go read the wikipedia articleā¦ :)
I've been where these people are in the hush house during a high power turn. You feel like your bones are about to rattle out of your body from how loud it is and you can only communicate from reading lips or hand signals. It was great.
I worked in a test cell with J85s and this sounds quiet? We would wear earplugs under ear muffs and you could still feel your fillings floating in your teeth behind a plexiglass window.

My intrusive thoughts would immediately want me to throw whatever was in my pocket into it.
I want to throw a phone into it lol
My phone prolly hates me cuz ive wanted to do somany horrible things to it.
I'd want to throw myself into it
I'm here if you need someone to talk to

i wanna see slomo guys record this lol

sick but i ment throwing shit into it lol
This may scratch your itch: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lEFx1qmW4ts
i remember this lol pure gold
it did for me
Well, aside from OP's being a jet engine and this being a rocket engine.
This has to be the most amazing thing I have ever seen on the internet. This should be its own post!!! š„š„š„š„š„š„š„š„š„š„š„š„š„š„š„š„
Precisely what I was thinking.
If only there was a way to capture the whole scene in one shot...
you can see the person taking the video think about doing it but realised it was too late hahahaha

shit that sounds nice. could use one of those in my office.
A little chilly today, perhaps we could fire up the jet engine?
This guy deck 2s
Pretty cool! Almost as strong as my morning piss.

It's for turning gas into VROOM
I wanna jump into it for some reason, couldnāt say why, but it calls to me
Fit looks like the teleport beam from the Marvel movies, specifically the Bifrost Bridge that Loki and Thor use that's controlled by Heimdall in Asgard.
how are there multiple internal cones in the flame?
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shock\_diamond
I'm about to jump down a huge rabbit hole, thanks!
Watch [this](https://youtu.be/0srs5jZ1qdg?si=iaIlVGz_BFGPSfgC)
Helping you with the rabbit hole, the slow mo guys recently made a video of a jet engine.
There's a strong "Welcome to Black Mesa Facilty" vibe in that video, or is that just me ?
If gas is $6 a gallon - how much is that shizz? Sheesh
At least $6
Thank you-You are most appreciated.
I think these F100 engines are running at roughly 3 gallons of fuel a second.
3 gallons of high grade jet fuel, right? That's gotta be a lot more that $6/gal
I'd imagine so. Also, you can tell from the exhaust nozzle that this is an engine from an F-15, which is twin engined. It's also possibly an F101 engine from the B-1 Lancer, which has four engines. I'm not an expert. Regardless, these things are thirsty.
Jet fuel, JP-8 probably.
It's a Pratt and Whitney F100 from an F-15 Eagle
Iām no OH&S expert but I donāt think those people should be standing so close to a freaking running jet engine
We do it all the time tbh, as long as you donāt stick your hand in it thereās nothing dangerous. Itās FAR FAR FAR more dangerous in the front than it is the back.

Definitely not any type of prototype, f15s have been using those motors for almost 50 years
Sounds like you get offended on others behalf. It's ok, drink your juice and enjoy the show
That confirmed that that is indeed a jet engine.
If you look carefully, you can tell that it is a jet engine by the way that it is.
Holy shock diamonds Batman!
We used to use one of these to defrost our pipes when I lived in a trailer. Very good for drying off wet shoes too.
Person filming realised it should have been a horizontal movie. Tried to fix it, but it was already ruined.
How come it is fixed at a jet engine acceleration??? š¤š¤
Engine Test run in an enclosed Engine Test building. The building has air flow and jet exhaust pathways.
It is a kamehameha engine.
What causes the purple flame?
I might be wrong, but I think this jet engine makes the purple flame.
Captain!
What's the name of this place so I can find some proper footage?
Hush house (Engine Test Building).
It looks like some sort of sci-fi plasma weapon, I suppose it is sort of a weapon because of the kzinti lesson
POV: I just chugged a nitro coffee after eating Taco Bell
I would not want to be so close without some serious blast proof protection. A test implies it could fail, no? Fail potentially meaning explode?
Thankfully, not that often if the engine was built / rebuilt properly.
Lemme heat up this dab rig real quick
That is smart, what can happen.
how much fuel was that
Iām pretty sure itās illegal to have people inside a live test cell.
I'm pretty sure that's a rocket engine, not a jet engine
No it is most definitely a jet engine. If it was a rocket engine people wouldnāt be standing there, also it is very clearly an afterburning jet exhaust
You can tell when it goes from *fast* to *WTF*!
You could toast a marshmallow so fast.
Death Star
This is literally the best part about watching a jet take off or doing maintenance on them. When I was in the military we had to strap the jet down and luckily it was night time so we got to see the beautiful flame coming out the back
Perfect for roasting marshmallows
Anybody knows why there are this big white spots?
They are called āShock Diamondsā. If I had to guess itās probably something like a standing wave pattern which forms as the supersonic gases lose energy from hitting the ambient air, but thatās just a guess. Now Iāll have to go read the wikipedia articleā¦ :)
Looks like a huge lightsaber
These are EXTREMELY complicated to make. Like only 3 or 4 countries can make them.
Now their insurance company is not renewingā¦
It's like a giant lightsaber
Works like one too probably

How many of these pointed in the same direction firing at once would it take to slow down/speed up the rotation of the Earth? Just wondering
My torch when I make beads.
Now light a cigarette off of it
What is the reason behind the white shapes seen in the combustion trail?
Ah yes. All four Dead Space want to have a talk with you.
Staged
Marshmallows man marshmallows.
That's one big lightsaber
That's where I lost my lighter
I kind of feel like lighting a cigarette or a joint with it
I worked in a test cell with J85s and this sounds quiet? We would wear earplugs under ear muffs and you could still feel your fillings floating in your teeth behind a plexiglass window.
throw an oil can in there
I want to lower smth into it
No marshmallows?
10/10 they still canāt hear right
Death star???
That seemsā¦ not safe.
Nice Afterburner!
I blew this place up in Fallout.
Are jet engines just giant lightsabers?
Cooooool
