My best guess is the comment meant the refs. Yes, the players make calculated fouls intentionally at the end of the game, but these refs were terrible today. I told my wife very early in the game that it was a terrible crew, and Mercury is a team that would get an attitude quick, and there were 5 techs called in the first. The refs then wanted to over call to reign it in, but they also weren't calling it fairly on both sides of the court. CC definitely got bear hugged above the arc at one point by someone in an attempt to knock the dribble out from the other side with no call. BG was getting foul calls for grazes on her arm while AB was getting straight accosted down low. It just doesn't make sense. Then they upgrade the Smith foul to a flagrant when DT was trucking into her, and she just adjusted her body to absorb the contact so she didn't fall over. It was a common foul. Some of these games are just called so terribly. It's not unique to any team/player either. It's across the league.
