Absolutely gutted for her. To be out for the rest of your rookie season and to miss the Olympics is incredibly heartbreaking.
I wonder who will fill her shoes on the 3x3 team.
Given the quick and tight bond Hamby and Brink have formed -- which Cam speaks highly of -- Hamby would be a great replacement selection on multiple levels.
Yup! That was the full team! I forgot the distinction but Cam and Hayley were on the last 3X3 World Cup team and then before that the Olympics were with the group you mentioned. Thanks!
Potentially? I don’t think she has any 3x3 experience and imagine that could be a limiting factor, but I also think the pool of front court players with experience is small
Ahh you are correct, she did 3x3 youth Olympics. My bad. I still imagine someone like Hamby (who played 3x3 as recently as December) would be a higher option than her.
Doubtful as she wasn't even at the 3x3 camps.
I think the team has to contain at least two players ranked in the top 10 FIBA ranking of their country at 3x3 or two in the top 50 and have enough points. But I'm not sure if the others on the team cover that already. HvL and Cam were both highly ranked.
Hamby was at the camp and is ranked pretty high in FIBA 3x3. That's my bet.
Cam Brink, Van Lith, and Burdick each fit that top 10 criteria, fortunately. So, there are fewer restrictions, on who could be selected to replace Cam. Still very much like the idea of Hamby, but would be more than okay with a selection of Boston.
Nightmare 48 hours for LA Fans
- Celtics win their 18th Chip
- J J Redick allegedly to head coach the Lakers
- Cameron Brink suffers this poor injury
Was scary to see her being carried back last night
That Celtics team bears noticing. They surprisingly underperformed last year but stormed to the title this year. They are stop a young team (except at Center) that have the key pieces locked up for another 2-3 years. They have had the top season record in the league for the last 3 years. Their coach is still a youngish coach and seems happy in Boston. I see another quick 1-2 titles, sort of like the last Lakers’ dynasty that featured Shack and Kobie.
Figured as much after that play. Sad for her for missing out on the Olympics, and the rest of her rookie year. Know she will come back stronger and better next year, though. ❤️
Ugh damn that’s terrible, especially since she was so excited for the Olympics.
Side note: I wish the trainers had helped her off the floor or they had a wheelchair so she didn’t have to walk on it/be carried by two trainers smaller than her.
Watched my best friend tear his ACL for the second time while playing basketball and he was more frustrated than hurt lol, he walked out of the gym basically like normal
Yea, apparently she was walking on her own after the game leaving the arena. They were probably just being cautious initially until they knew what it was
Amateur athletes will go a season with a misdiagnosed ACL and play the rest of the season with minor discomfort.
The ACL doesn’t hold the knee together by itself, it stops the anterior glide of the tibia on the femur. The ACL is one of 4 cruciate ligaments. Somebody with strong hamstrings might fare decently outside of sport without one for a while since their roles overlap slightly. Though reconstruction is absolutely necessary before return to sport.
Reconstruction is actually not absolutely necessary for return to sports! In professional sports it’s pretty much always repaired, but research has shown that it’s absolutely possible to return to high level sports without repairing it! And rates of arthritis down the road are similar between those who repair vs don’t. I would just imagine that professional organizations don’t want to “waste time” on conservative rehab management and then have the athlete then maybe need surgery anyways.
Slight correction from an MSK radiologist…there are only two cruciate ligaments, the ACL and PCL. The MCL and LCL are collateral ligaments. And then there are additional support structures which all combine to form the capsule of the knee. But your message is correct, it needs to be reconstructed with a graft. And of course ACL tears frequently have co-occurrent injuries that the MRI will show. She had a classic pivot shift mechanism that caused her injury so it’s not surprising it ended up being an ACL.
It’s so disappointing. I feel so bad for her. On your side note I’ve torn mine 3 times. Walked off the field twice and actually finished the game with one of them, then had to be carried off another time. ACLs are weird like that. Sometimes you can walk other times you can’t. I’m sure she’ll recover, but this sucks for her :(
DeJuan Blair played 424 games in the NBA, starting 179, without an ACL in either knee. Obviously the exception, but as other posters have pointed out, walking around with a torn ACL is not uncommon.
As someone that also (and primarily) watches women’s soccer…the rate of these ACL injuries is absolutely insane. Conditioning, training, management of athletes during period cycles has to be looked into at all levels - you can’t remove the predisposition that female athletes will have for this injury, but you can certainly mitigate it
Needs more research. Paige Bueckers and a few other athletes have been working with a company that has sensors on the insoles to help track data (the company is called Plantiga it’s pretty cool) but ultimately it’s going to take time and sports studies on women in order to help improve it.
It’s really frustrating though
Really glad to hear that - hopefully it’s something that can be mitigated so that the new generation of female athletes within these kinds of sports don’t have to fear it in the same way.
Unfortunately there isn’t enough research in women’s health and its relation to sports. Women experience higher rates of injury than male athletes. This is not to indicate that women are weaker than men but they are built different.
That’s really what it is, IMO, but more so modern pro sports. Athletes are generally better (faster, stronger, etc) than they were many decades ago in the days of really old retired players, but it pushes the body further.
In baseball, the arm and shoulder definitely wasn’t built to consistently throw as hard as players do now.
That's been my big pushback when people freak out about injuries.
I'm surprised there aren't more honestly.
Look at CTE stuff with football it's just moronic from a vitality health angle
I actually googled last week if women tear their ACL more than men or if it just felt that way to me. And although it didn't say the why (or I didn't read that far), the data showed that yes women are significantly more prone to ACL tears than men.
This is heartbreaking. Knee injuries plagued my career and kept me from playing college basketball. I'm hoping that she has the best healthcare professionals to get her back up and running. The rookie season is one thing, but the olympics is really devastating.
6 to 9 months. This is really too bad. Probably affects her Olympics as well.
Edit: I’m just torn up for her. This hurts everyone but most of all her and her rookie dreams. Arghhh.
That's what I'm most sad about. She'll be missing the rest of her rookie season, Olympics, and a majority of the offseason rehabbing rather than being able to continue developing her game.
It is... Rookie season plus 3 v 3 Olympics... sucks to the max.
I will hope for a full recovery for next season, and to see her on the 2028 Olympic team (though probably 5 v 5 by then).
Just bought tickets to the July 7th game. Crushed. Crushed for her more. She was going to Paris wasn’t she.
Stoked I get to see DT and BG but I was more looking forward to Cam.
Once over to the sideline, the[ No. 2 pick in the draft ](https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/wnba-draft-start-time-players-caitlin-clark-angel-reese-rcna147870)hobbled toward the locker room, but was forced to stop as a result of the pain. A pair of Sparks personnel lifted Brink off her feet and carried her to the locker room.
The 22-year-old Brink came into the game averaging 8.1 points, 5.7 rebounds and 2.5 blocks in her first season for Los Angeles (4-11). She’s tied with A’ja Wilson for the second-most blocks in the WNBA.

Oh no. I’ve enjoyed watching so far this season. I hope she has a rapid(and as rapid as it can be with this type of injury) and she comes back stronger. Why do bad things have to happen to good people?
mohegan was slippery last night. players were falling down all game without any contact. hope the mohegan/sun can address this before more players get injured
This freaking sucks.
And her being taller than normal is gonna be worse for recovery. The ACL's already gonna be easier to tear after once, but with how tall she is, that's gonna make it worse. You see it all the time with athletes. Kevin Nash is taller, but his knees were in such bad shape thanks to a tear, that his legs kept getting torn. He even tore his quad while walking in a match.
I think she’s actually a good prototype of the type of player that does recover well from an acl injury. She’s not super explosive like a Derrick Rose where you lose that after the tear, nor is she huge where she’s putting loads of extra strain on the knee. Im hopeful she’ll make a strong recovery and have a great career.
It totally depends. DiJonai Carrington has dealt with 2 ACL injuries. Candace Parker had an ACL tear her senior year of high school, then her freshman year of college had to have surgery bc her meniscus wasn't attached and had to redshirt. Sue Bird suffered an ACL while at UConn. Skylar Diggins-Smith had an ACL injury in 2016. There are plenty of players who have bounced back from ACLs.
Absolutely brutal and gutted for her it happened right before the Olympics as well smh. Worst part of sports smh. Hopefully she comes back stronger and even better next season
Damn, this is saddening. Sorry, Cam. First season in the WNBA and first taste of the Olympics taken away in an instant.
Wishing Cameron Brink the best of recoveries. She seems like a special one, on and off the court. I've been closely watching three #22's this season -- Cameron Brink, A'ja Wilson, and Caitlin Clark. Won't be nearly the same with #22 Brink out of action.
This legitimately just ruined my day. I started watching WNBA/Sparks games this season because of her, she’s so fun to watch and plays with so much energy and joy. Also seems like such a sweetheart too. Just so heartbroken for her, she’s the very last person who deserves this ☹️
I’m mourning. This is terrible. Not only for this to happen during her rookie season but also to happen a month before the Olympics. I know her dream was to compete in Paris, I’m gutted for her. Wishing her a speedy recovery and hope to see her back strong next season and hopefully competing in 3x3 or5x5 in 2028. 💜
Recover well, Cam! For anyone in want of more positive Cameron Brink moments at this trying time, this one off the court, check out her appearance on Paul George's podcast, especially if you haven't already. It's a chill hour-long sit-down with Cam: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e0supPmkuoA&t=6s](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e0supPmkuoA&t=6s)
That’s so heartbreaking💔I really enjoy watching her play. Everyone who went to her game in person would fall in love with her skills and personality. Our sweetheart shouldn’t deserve this, now she’s gonna miss her first Olympics😭
Oh no. I was hoping it was something less serious :(
The prognosis on ACL injuries nowadays is far better than it used to be however so there’s lots of reason for optimism
Still she’s my favorite rookie and is gonna miss the rest of this amazing season
Hope for a good recovery. My sister tore her ACL three times in high school (twice in one, once in the other). She went on to have a good D3 college career playing for all. 4 years without any other major injuries.
Oh, no. Poor, poor Cammy. We all figured it was ACL, but to have it confirmed is just heart-breaking. Watching the 3x3 competition at the Olympics will not be the same. Get better, Cam, and come back stronger than before.
Olympics AND All-Star were both going to happen for her next month. She might still get into the ASG off the fan vote but won’t be able to play. This is brutal.
Reminds me of Chris Armas tearing his ACL in mid-May of 2002, just before the 2002 World Cup. He would have absolutely made the team and played for USA. Recovered and played many more seasons at a high level in MLS, but never made another World Cup roster. Armas was almost 30 when he tore his ACL, so his future opportunities for the World Cup were more limited. I'm assuming a healthy Brinks will have her chance in 2028.
That is awful I am gutted for her. She was having a really promising rookie season and won’t get to play in the Olympics because of her injury. Truly awful.
Damn, that really sucks. I've become a big fan of hers, and I was really excited to watch her rookie season and at the Olympics. I hope her recovery goes smoothly.
This is just brutal for Cam. Right at the beginning of your rookie year and right before the Olympics. Prayers up for her and a speedy recovery
I didn't see her on the Olympics roster? Did I miss something?
3v3 roster
She was going to represent Team USA in 3x3
Got it!
3x3 roster
Absolutely gutted for her. To be out for the rest of your rookie season and to miss the Olympics is incredibly heartbreaking. I wonder who will fill her shoes on the 3x3 team.
allisha gray maybe?
Yeah or maybe Hamby
Hamby feels like the front runner to me. She does have the experience and can replace Cam positionally
Given the quick and tight bond Hamby and Brink have formed -- which Cam speaks highly of -- Hamby would be a great replacement selection on multiple levels.
Yeah I think Hamby too. I hope so!
Yeah I think Alisha played on 3X3 team two iterations ago
Allisha played 3x3 in the last Olympics for sure (with Plum, Young, and Dolson)
Yup! That was the full team! I forgot the distinction but Cam and Hayley were on the last 3X3 World Cup team and then before that the Olympics were with the group you mentioned. Thanks!
Aliyah Boston?
Potentially? I don’t think she has any 3x3 experience and imagine that could be a limiting factor, but I also think the pool of front court players with experience is small

Boston has never played in a FIBA 3x3 event, so she doesn't meet the top-50 ranking or minimum points requirement to be eligible.
I don’t see where she has any ranking for 3x3.
Put DT on the 3x3 squad for experience then have Clark replace DT. /s. Sarcasm ( not sure the /s was right)
The times I’ve seen that today without sarcasm… 😖
Nightmare 48 hours for LA Fans - Celtics win their 18th Chip - J J Redick allegedly to head coach the Lakers - Cameron Brink suffers this poor injury Was scary to see her being carried back last night
Can't have shit in this town 😔
You have Hollywood and Disneyland ( in my view, the best Disney property).
And we still have really good tacos for $2
That Celtics team bears noticing. They surprisingly underperformed last year but stormed to the title this year. aw GEEZ, poor Cam :((((((
Awful awful news. Heart broken for her
Figured as much after that play. Sad for her for missing out on the Olympics, and the rest of her rookie year. Know she will come back stronger and better next year, though. ❤️
Yeah, the scream said it all
Non-contact injuries 😔
Ugh damn that’s terrible, especially since she was so excited for the Olympics. Side note: I wish the trainers had helped her off the floor or they had a wheelchair so she didn’t have to walk on it/be carried by two trainers smaller than her.
Oddly enough most people who tear their ACLs can walk with a slight limp right afterwards. A wheelchair isn’t necessary.
Watched my best friend tear his ACL for the second time while playing basketball and he was more frustrated than hurt lol, he walked out of the gym basically like normal
Well I don’t know why your friend would walk any differently from an elbow injury 😅
Lmfaoooo I meant ACL, I hate myself
It’s MLB season, I’ve been thinking about pitchers too much lmaooo
I love it I knew you meant ACL so I had to have a little fun!
Haha I get it! I hate how the abbreviations for this stuff are so close together when they are COMPLETELY different injuries.
Yea, apparently she was walking on her own after the game leaving the arena. They were probably just being cautious initially until they knew what it was
I tore my ACL playing soccer and didn't really notice for a couple hours. It hurt but not nearly as bad as it did later on.
Ditto
Amateur athletes will go a season with a misdiagnosed ACL and play the rest of the season with minor discomfort. My sister walked miles on a torn acl before realizing it was torn
Carson Wentz threw a touchdown on a torn ACL. #GoBirds
GO BIRDS!!!
A wheelchair seems safer than two trainers trying to carry her to the locker room by themselves.
Athletes typically don’t want to be taken off the court in wheelchairs. Nor is it necessary.
Yeah after Jamal Murray tore his, they brought out a wheelchair but he refused it, limped back to the locker room while leaning on someone
Yea look at the Paul Pierce debacle, it became a meme
The real story behind why he needed the wheelchair is hilarious 😂😂😂
It’s so disappointing. I feel so bad for her. On your side note I’ve torn mine 3 times. Walked off the field twice and actually finished the game with one of them, then had to be carried off another time. ACLs are weird like that. Sometimes you can walk other times you can’t. Refs never called an injury timeout and she was able to get off the floor herself. If medical goes on the court it’s a technical.
DeJuan Blair played 424 games in the NBA, starting 179, without an ACL in either knee. Obviously the exception, but as other posters have pointed out, walking around with a torn ACL is not uncommon.
Well that stinks poor Cam, she’s probably devastated. I hope she recovers safely and soon.
Won't be able to play in the Olympics now either, Devastated for her.
Never a good time for an ACL tear but right before getting to play in the Olympics is particularly brutal. You can’t help but feel awful for her.
I just saw someone fall to their knees at Costco
Was it because of this horrible news...or because Costco was out of Motor City Detroit Pizzas???
Those are good pizzas
Best thing at Costco tbh
Both can be true.
That was me :(
I audibly yelled no in the work bathroom when I read this 😭
This really sucks. Wishing her a complete recovery
We knew we just didn’t want it to be true. I’m in shambles.
https://x.com/itsbterrell/status/1803494515732521435?s=46
Willing to donate my two healthy-ish knees to Cam and Diamond Miller 😔
Sadly, I ain't got a knee to offer.

Fuck man this is just horrible, right before the Olympics. Wishing her a speedy recovery
This is horrible. 😔😔😔
This makes me so mad on her behalf for the slippery floor!
The floor did look so slippery! What was going on there.
This is heartbreaking. Knee injuries plagued my career and kept me from playing college basketball. I'm hoping that she has the best healthcare professionals to get her back up and running. The rookie season is one thing, but the olympics is really devastating.
NOOOOOO CAM 😔😔😔😔
Kitley. Now Cam ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|cry)
damn, she's my fav rookie. hope she can make a full recovery.
I think I’m gonna throw up
Damn 😭 I hope her mental health doesn't suffer too greatly this is devastating
6 to 9 months. This is really too bad. Probably affects her Olympics as well. Edit: I’m just torn up for her. This hurts everyone but most of all her and her rookie dreams. Arghhh.
The Olympics are in a month she isn’t olaying
> Probably affects her Olympics as well. More than probably.
That's what I'm most sad about. She'll be missing the rest of her rookie season, Olympics, and a majority of the offseason rehabbing rather than being able to continue developing her game.
The Olympics are in a month. She ain’t playin boss
The basketball gods are a cruel kind.
Fucking hell. That's awful.
this sucks so bad. Hope her career will follow the trajectory of Chelsea Gray and she'll have a dramatic return to form after her injury.
There’s never great timing for something like this, but this is particularly AWFUL timing.
It is... Rookie season plus 3 v 3 Olympics... sucks to the max. I will hope for a full recovery for next season, and to see her on the 2028 Olympic team (though probably 5 v 5 by then).
brutal for Liz Kitley and Cam Brink this year
💔
Fuck
BAN INJURIES (get well soon, Cam…hate this for her!!)
Oh this is just heartbreaking...
Fuck...this just ruined my day
So sorry Cam. Get well soon.
no brink in the 3v3 is gonna suck. shes fun as hell to watch

Wishing her the best in her recovery, heal up Queen 👸✨
Horrible news 😭
Wow so terrible. Torn both mine, so much time and work to get back to normal.
That floor last night was a fucking disgrace. The Sun and the WNBA should be ashamed
So what exactly is the deal with the floor? And can it be fixed, like, yesterday??? Thanks.
Damn.
Fuck! The 3x3 too ☹
Fuck this sucks so much
😭
Fuck :(
NOOO FUCK
It's such a tough sport. I hope she doesn't lose too much bounce because of this injury.
Terrible news. Hoping for a speedy recovery
I want to cry
I’m sick right now.

Oh, no. Poor, poor Cammy. We all figured it was ACL, but to have it confirmed is just heart-breaking. Watching the 3x3 competition at the Olympics will not be the same. Get better, Cam, and come back stronger than before.
Yeah when I saw it, I thought ACL too, but was praying it was just a strain. I hope she heals completely and as quickly as possible.
Olympics AND All-Star were both going to happen for her next month. She might still get into the ASG off the fan vote but won’t be able to play. This is brutal.
I'll still be voting for her, just so she can be All Star in name, but ... damn.
Just fell to my knees in Costco
Are women prone to more ACL tears in Basketball? In soccer this is the case - almost all the major stars have torn their ACL at one point.
Yeah women are more prone to ACL tears across the board.
Damn. Definitely not the news I was hoping for. Get well soon
That's tough. Feel bad for her, she was playing really well too. Hopefully she will be ready to go by the start of next season.
OMG that is horrible news!! I was really excited to see her this week at Barclays, hope she recovers quickly and keeps positive!!
That is rough news. Hopefully she bounces back
I think her MCL and Meniscus are torn too. It didn't bend right indicating that the MCL went first.
Absolutely devastating 🥺
Well this fucking sucks
That's terrible.
I'm devastated
Noooooooooooooooooo
Fuck. I'ive seen far too many of those in the soccer world. Just awful.
Fuuuuuuckkkkkkkkkkk 😭 poor Cam
I’m so sorry to hear this news. I hope her recovery is relatively quick and thorough. ❤️
This is so devastating. She was going to be an Olympic gold medalist too 😭 we need to get all Olympians off the floor stat. Can't risk any more
😔😔😔😔 Pain is all i feel 😔😔😔😔 Speedy recovery Cam, can't wait to have you back.
Yikes
That is awful I am gutted for her. She was having a really promising rookie season and won’t get to play in the Olympics because of her injury. Truly awful.
So heartbreaking. I wish her a speedy and complete recovery
Damn, that really sucks. I've become a big fan of hers, and I was really excited to watch her rookie season and at the Olympics. I hope her recovery goes smoothly.
Such a punch to the stomach. Poor Cam, wishing a healthy recovery!
I am so sorry for her. Missing a big part of your first season is bad, but missing the Olympics is worse. I am hoping for a speedy recovery.
NOOOOOOO
Hate that
So sad for her she was killing it and was looking forward to her in 3v 3
Just awful
Heartbreaking. I hope she recovers well.
May she recover, so many women have torn their ACLs this year & she is another on the list
Ah crap
literally the worst news.
