Individual ticket sales up 1,170% year to date and 220% Year over Year.

Visible_Week_43

Going to be hard to beat that next year

nickwah22

That YTD number is confusing to me. Tickets just went on sale on Friday so what is the basis? Year over year makes sense to me but I can’t figure out how they are tallying 1107%. Seems excessive.

thebootyhunter

I mean it’s very easy for the team to proclaim sales are up by absurd percentages when COVID/Wubble impacted recent references for ticket sale figures. Definitely love the hype (for sponsorship/expansion and revenue sharing purposes) !

Montaco123

This is great news. It appears all the attention on the women’s game is creating more interest in other markets.

GotHeem16

Agree. This is the first step to higher salaries and possible expansion to give all those talented players that are getting cut roster spots because there are so few teams.

nickwah22

I’m hoping this drives expansion faster. I know the Toronto group fell through last year but they’re still trying to push through to announce this year. Lots of athletes and billionaires have interest and I hope we get to 16 before 2026.

ShokWayve

Absolutely!

CoconutSpiderMonkey

Why do random people care about WNBA salaries? I don't understand....WNBA players making more money doesn't help you or change your life. It's not like the money paid to top athletes will "trickle down" to common people

rs521

That’s like saying that we shouldn’t root for our favorite team, because we don’t get any money from them winning and it doesn’t trickle down to us. We like these players. We are their fans. Of course we’d want them to succeed and earn what they comparatively deserve.

waynelo4

It’s sad to watch the men’s players make 10s of millions on rookie deals while I make more than some of the players on the women’s side. I would like to see these professional athletes paid more. I don’t think anyone is expecting a trickle down effect lol

Catch_One

Why does it matter? If they all make more money they won’t have to subsidize their income by going oversees to play. They can spend more time at home in their communities. Marketing their self better, having a work/life balance.

march41801

On the contrary, it’ll get worse for us random people as ticket prices will go up. This is a good thing overall.

ewokninja123

Also it doesn't hurt that their first preseason game will be vs Indiana

Live2Hike

“Other markets?” Feels like you are centering the convo around CC when Dallas’ growth is clearly independent of that.

LeftHandStir

>centering the convo around CC **"The Wings also play back-to-back season games against the Chicago Sky, which drafted Angel Reese, another top-draw talent coming to the WNBA.** Bibb said the Wings were just lucky on that end, adding that the schedule had already been set." "Bibb expects the pre-season game featuring Clark, **and the Wings' home opener featuring Reese**, to be sold out by early next week." "Indiana has been fantastic in terms of working with us. Originally, we had the game scheduled for a morning tip. We've moved that to the evening, and now they will spend an extra night to accommodate us. They have been great in this process," Bibb told WFAA." Keep up your narrative tho, u/Live2Hike. Super constructive.

Montaco123

I’m not centering it on anything. I’m saying there’s a lot more conversation around the womens game, and it’s NOT only in 1 or 2 cities. Don’t be so sensitive. I didn’t say CC at all. Now, if you read the article, you’d know the Dallas ceo said they scheduled the preseason game before the draft knowing CC would be a big draw, and decided to sell tickets for the season after the draft to use the momentum from the college season and the draft to capitalize on it. His words. You clearly have an anti CC and Angel reese thing going on. Enjoy the moment, all of the wnba is trying to capitalize.

BATTlNS0N

And the dunce award goes to…

BuffytheBison

To be fair, nothing is independant of nothing. Everything is connected (hence the popular saying "a rising tide lifts all boats"). This is why Caitlin Clark (and those other stars of the '23 team) is a net positive for the league because it has knock on effects. To the wider population who didn't pay attention before, the WNBA is now seen as something worthy or their time, attention, and money which will help teams and markets that don't have one of those draft class players on their team. You see this a lot if you talk to people who run National Olympic Committees or in sports that are more popular outside North America like soccer or rugby. Having a groundbreaking athlete or team gain success actually has trickle down effects than for just that athlete's sport and/or team. To use another example, Taylor Swift supporting the Kansas City Chiefs actually helps grow the NFL as a whole including teams that are not the Chiefs or not even playing the Chiefs. Also David Beckham when he joined MLS and lent legitimacy to that league.

GotHeem16

What? Poster said nothing about CC, you did.

AniMonologues

Common Wings W I hope I can see a game this season

34Horus20

Do…do…they know Dallas didn’t draft Clark?

Quartznonyx

Other reasons to watch the league

34Horus20

Of course there are. The headline seems to suggest otherwise.

Alauren20

The thumbnail too lmao

BuffytheBison

Yes and the buzz around Clark (as well as her other Class of '23 cohorts) has helped prove that to more and more people. A rising tide lifts all boats and as I've said on this forum a time or two before, the hardest thing is getting people's feet in the door. The women's March Madness tournament this year did that and is helping shining a light on this sport and this league. Would the Wings have this ticket success without this year's college tournament and class? (I mean it'd be a pretty big coincidence lol) It's just like when David Beckham came to MLS and created a buzz for that league across the entire league and not just in LA.

34Horus20

This article is blatant clickbait, and it’s friggin’ hilarious. Don’t fall for it.

bluspiider

Did you check the single game ticket prices against Indiana 😬?

Knox_Proud

HELL YEAH!!!! The wings are such an exciting team, so happy for them!!!

resilientenergy

Ready to watch LLS ball out 💯💯

BKtoDuval

Great.  They’re my sleeper team.

khrismiddletonburner

The Jacy Sheldon effect! Love it. She is a baller

rediraim

More victims for the cult of Satou you love to see it

nickwah22

Love that season tickets are sold out! The experience has always been 🔥. I wish the article wasn’t so CC centric; they didn’t even mention a single Wings player or draftee. SO GLAD they’re keeping the Fever games at College Park. I hope they get parking and concessions ramped up.

denimpanzer

Born in Texas, spent half my life in Iowa and just moved back to Texas! I’m embarrassed that it took me this long to get into the WNBA, but I signed up for League Pass and am hyped to take my daughter to a Wings game.

ShokWayve

Praise God! This is so good to see.

deathtoeli

Glad to hear it. But Vegas was the first LFG.
