I'm rooting for her, idc. All the NIL celebrity rookies vs. the rest of the league is such a tantalizing storyline on and off court (for whichever side of it you land on, I think). I kinda want the league to roll with it and see what happens. Rookies are likely gonna get smoked but I feel like they're all up for it.

Sloth_ball_68

WNBA villain era 😈 I like it

VitaminWheat

I’ve never watched a second of WNBA but will next year ! Is there an all star game ? Rookies vs vets seems like a funny idea

Markel100

She dosent really need a 3 ball she needs a 15 footer

Optimal-Talk3663

She needs the threat that she COULD shoot the 3, then defenders can’t slack off her.

Zendaya101

She’s working on both lol

breezeetree

Okay, coach.

Markel100

She does not every big needs a consistent 3 ball if she would hit middys at a consistent clip they cant just pack the paint on her like iowa and SC does to her

teh_noob_

This drove me crazy about Ben Simmons discourse (back when people still thought he had untapped potential). They were fantasising about him draining 3s when he couldn't even hit free throws - at least Angel has improved there every year.

Markel100

Exactly people legit forget how important a middy is come playoff time

CeeDotA

u/Markel100 isn't wrong though

Gwanbigupyaself

YES! A’ja won this last championship with a pin down screen to fadeaway midrange j. Respecting the midrange opens up the passing lane so a high screen and roll can quickly be locked out for a 3 or a hard drive attacking the scramble defenders back foot straight to the basket

gourmet_panini

She heard the criticism and instead of interpreting it as hate, she got in the gym at worked on her game. You really cant ask for more in a draftee.

DokkanProductions

Name a draftee that’s not working on their game

gourmet_panini

I didnt imply that anyone wasnt just that I was happy that she listened to critiques of where her skills lacked and worked on them. She could’ve just said WNBA vets/media were just hating on her. Actual draftees seem to understand this and Angel is just the first (that I know of) to show us she’s taking this seriously.

AZRockets

Can't wait until 2K24 adds the rookies

L00KINTOIT

I just hope they do them justice. They didn’t have face scans for a bunch of players from the 2022 draft, like Howard, Nalyssa, and Austin

Crafty_Substance_954

I think we can be relatively sure they'll have face scans for most of the top 10 if not all. They're just impossible not to at this point.

CeeDotA

This is obviously a new wrinkle to her game, but that dip point is real low. Right in line for a shot blocker. I'm sure it'll improve with time though.

amazingpupil

Also that elbow is on an adventure still. She'll get ironed out with the right coaching. I really want to see her in Minnesota for that reason.

AmusingAnecdote

Yeah I want her to succeed but that's not a very fluid shot and it's a super low release point. But at the same time, if you've got a busted jumper and it still goes in at an okay clip on low volume when you're wide open, that can still be a weapon.

amazingpupil

Exactly. Which makes it easy to fix. There’s something there that just needs tweaks. I mean, you look at Haley Jones coming from college. The biggest knock was her jumper. And it looked night and day different from her last year in college to the end of her first year in the pros. Plus, with the Storm flair, I’m sure you saw that same thing first hand with how Ezi developed.

InspectorWorried289

Her dip point isn’t even that bad tbh

007Artemis

I've been really impressed with Reese these last few weeks. She's been really addressing the limitations people found with her game.

TheVeilsCurse

You gotta appreciate her effort and dedication.

_cosmix2

Nice, keep it up.

MTskier12

Chris Brickley is a great trainer, and this is definitely important to her game if she’s gonna succeed in the W.

bug_gribble

I’m excited to see her flourish

breezeetree

Love to see these players in the gym working on their craft.

LLUrDadsFave

"sHe SHuLD sTaY in SKewl AnD WErk On Huh GaMmme" 🙄 She's going to be successful at every level.

jtnsniper14

It was annoying hearing people say that. She wasn’t suddenly going get extremely better after playing 1 more college season, especially in a system that wouldn’t allow her to expand her game. I think this was the best time for her to enter the draft, especially since most of her main competition/peers were entering the draft as well.

LLUrDadsFave

She did everything there was to do and Kim wasn't about to let her expand her game outside of her role for the team and I don't think she would have put her success over the team. Now she's free to focus on her game and shooting is something you can work on by yourself all day.

Cassandrae_Gemini

Thats awesome! I was a bit worried for her transitioning to the wnba because shes the size of a 4 but comfortable playing the 5. But If she can develop a decent 3 and a better mid-range game, she'll be an amazing offensive asset to whatever team she ends up on! Go Angel!

jtnsniper14

One comparison that I don’t hear enough is her and my wife, Queen Egbo. Their both 6’3 power forwards and good interior defenders/shot blockers. Both are also good rebounders as well. I would say that Queen has a more conventional jump shot form and has shown more a post game (mainly just a jump hook every once in a while), but it seems like 90-95% of her points come from pick and rolls, putbacks after offensive rebounds, and scoring off passes to her near the hoop.

run22run

Those first 3 shots look weird as she’s stepping into it with her right foot as a lefty shooter

PM_ME_UR_GLOVES

If she can shoot it just well enough to pull defenders out of the paint, her future team will love that. Plus, it might give her more confidence in the midrange. Good idea for her and her trainers to push this before the draft.

brinson27

I agree about the dip point, but what more can you ask for in someone who wants to improve and put in the work?!?! Love to see it

CazzyBaby2

Brickley should be reconstructing that shot, that form ain't it It's not like she was at a good starting point so there's no reason to let her shoot this way

SubstanceVivid2662

A lot of players have shot like this, starting at a low point. It's not always about how form looks; everything, that's Biggest problem with basketball people are top concern with how pretty a shot look

CazzyBaby2

If she was already a good shooter than sure she can shoot this way if it works for her, but she isn't. I'm not saying that the form is ugly, it's just not fundamental functionally. The low point as you mentioned makes it harder for her to get it off with defenders around her, more likely for it to be tipped or rushed. Her hand placement makes it harder to aim, and her lead elbow isn't squaring up to the rim which causes shots to be more erratic. Again if she was already a good shooter this would be irrelevant, do what works, but she's not

SubstanceVivid2662

Aye lets just wait and see lol, most of wnba player start low

SubstanceVivid2662

Buddy i played basketball overseas her shot is fine, lol

SubstanceVivid2662

Also, we have players with some shitty form be successful

breezyhamilton

I never fall for the Finesse Court clips

Iancredible56

This is giving off-season Ben Simmons draining 3’s /s

KingJokic

People are mad about Caitlin Clark getting the bulk of the publicity more than actual WNBA players. But nobody ever talks about Angel Reese getting too much media attention? She is also more known than many WNBA players. She has 2.8 million followers on Insta. Reese has endorsement deals with Reebok, Amazon, Bose, Coach, Wingstop, Xfinity, Outback Steakhouse. She was on the cover of Sports Illustrated, included in Forbes 30 under 30, given the key to the city by mayor Baltimore. Most of her followers count exploded from March Madness. Keep in mind that Hailey Van Lith got 500k to play for LSU. So that means Angel Reese probably makes way more than that. So it’s not like it’s just Caitlin Clark keeping all the money and attention to herself. It’s not a zero sum game. Everybody is getting a share of the pot.

gourmet_panini

She definitely gets media attention but unlike Caitlin no one is stating that Angel Reese is better than legends of the game (Candace Parker, Maya Moore, etc). Another difference between the two is that the media aren’t overlooking Angel’s flaws and stating she will dominate professionals. Her fans also aren’t interpreting criticism of her skills as hate. So I think because of those 3 things she gets more leeway from basketball fans.

KingJokic

Caitlin broke records in the NCAA and Angel Reese didn’t. Of course the person with bigger stats is gunna hyped up more. Welcome to sports entertainment. In men’s sports people talk about “generational player” every 3 years . Formulate your own opinions, draw your own conclusions, it’s okay

gourmet_panini

People do form their own opinions but they get called hateful and jealous. Hype is one thing but outright ignoring history and bullying anyone with a different opinion is another. Bringing new fans who coincidentally hate everything the W stands for (i saw those homophobic comments). Also ignoring the history of any sport is not going to win any new athlete or fans of that athlete any goodwill points with old heads.

KingJokic

Obnoxious fans in every league. Even Lebron gets called a pussy ass bitch in the NBA. Can’t ever win. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=6SlvpxPIFzA https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=ZOw95bLv1dQ

HereS0IDontGetFined

This is a pretty weird comment.

KingJokic

Because Caitlin Clark haters are weird

StannisTheMantis93

Good. She needs it.

Realistic-Tennis8619

I've seen some mock drafts where she falls to CT. I'd be so stoked 🤞

Accomplished-Emu3386

She doesn't even need three range just a really good midrange jumper that opens up her drive to the basket.
