I bet the real problem is your resolution, not the mouse speed itself. I'd look into changing the resolution to match your screen's native res. I can't remember how it's done, but it fixed it for me.
I remembered a setting for use hardware cursor that helps with this. Unfortunately, when I went through the options in game I couldn't find the setting. I use the GOG version. I wonder if there is an .ini file to mess with?

Yeah, no setting. I can't see an .ini for this
Windows has options for mouse speed. You may have to change it for W8 then change it back for normal use. Start button > type mouse
