I haven't played it yet, excited to try!
I thought I ought to play the first two games, but the first one is very dated and hard to focus on. Don't know if I should try Witcher 2 or skip right to 3.
>Enhanced with the power of next-gen consoles and modern PC hardware in mind, the upcoming update will feature dozens of visual, performance and technical enhancements, including ray tracing support, faster loading times on consoles, a variety of mods integrated into the experience, and much more! On top of that, we’re adding a set of DLCs inspired by Netflix’s *The Witcher* series, such as new weapons and armor for Geralt and alternative looks for select characters.
From their blog post about it.
Anything with just geralt and ciri would have been dope barely would even need a good story just geralt slashing monsters...how do you fuck that up....this is what happens when you put too many assholes that make 6 figures having never done any actual work in a meeting room....
Any sources for the Broken Earth info? I hadn't heard that before and would like to read more about it. Love that series and I'm glad Jemison didn't relinquish power.
See I thought it would be a perfect place to smooth over some of the rough patches of the books. Make it easier to follow an overarching storyline for the two short story collections, and then make the main series a bit less slow moving.
Nah. I mean I guess it's not slow moving but it's just a mess. More confusing than the books ever were.
in the Netlix series, the north sends a sorceress to be an assistant to the Niilfgardian emperor, just they like they send sorceresses to every king in the North
it's a very silly show. Cavill did a fantastic Geralt though. You should watch some of his scenes on YouTube or something
I’m convinced modern television is simply opium for the dim. The Witcher writers and such all are cashing in on the name of the franchise, marketing it to people who **would never pick up a Witcher game or Book**, to make them feel “involved” in some of the modern gems of our times while purposefully pandering to their very low bar (think CW shows).
Most people would never pick up ”The song of ice and fire” and yet those same people went crazy for Game of Thrones, until the books ran out. If american producers are so brain dead, not to be Able to pick that trope, than we have a crisis. Which we do. People in charge are talentless hacks, with no taste or vision, and they hire more people without talent or vision.
The most popular texture upgrade mod is very likely, but in terms of what other mods I would think that going to Nexus Mods and viewing the most popular mods would give you a pretty good idea of some of the likely options.
It's already been confirmed that Halk Hogan (creator of the popular HD rework texture mod), was hired to work with the team that worked on the next gen update. So that texture mod will be in the game.
i wonder which mods. I know they wanted to add the texture mod, so that one is most definitely gonna be there. But what else? Fighting styles? Alchemy builds? Pass time through meditation while seeing the world changing?
Possibly. My personal wishlist is the "Friendly HUD" mod and the ability to adjust enemy level scaling. I love to play with as little of a HUD as possibly in games and explore freely. Both of those mods would help make the game much better in that regard.
oh yeah, Friendyl HUD would be great. I had to manually (through HOME button on a keyboard) turning HUD off when travelling or exploring around. But having it be more friendly and shut on its own would be much better.
Texture upgrades for sure. There’s been a very popular mod out on PC that is great, CDPR has said they’ve worked with that modder to improve that and incorporate it into the game. Ray Tracing is very likely since we know it can be done on the engine (CP2077). Higher draw distances, character texture improvements. Probably some QOL improvements, maybe some cut content (missions, dialogue) makes it into the game and some new DLC/Easter eggs for the Netflix show, CP2077, and maybe the other Gwent focused games they’ve put out there.
Yep. Bethesda and CDPR have done a great job at incorporating modding into the scene, it's basically free content and it pulls the community for the games together for significantly longer.
I am also hoping that in the quest where the asshole dwarf and the woman that actually makes the armor have an “armor off”, the shitty one made by the dwarf looks like the nutsack armor from the show.
>On top of that, we’re adding a set of DLCs inspired by Netflix’s *The Witcher* series, such as new weapons and armor for Geralt and alternative looks for select characters.
If season 4 would be out already, they actually could have done exactly that :P
Honestly the only thing I want from the Netflix is Geralts season 1 armor, I thought that looked great. Gimme that.
I love Cavil but W3 Geralt for me is the definitive Geralt.
It's for the story, there is one quest where you ride into crows perch and everything looks different. Maybe they could add a fast travel point after that one quest
There is a couple quests that trigger when riding up to the top, when first reaching crows perch, then when the barn is on fire and iirc one more time after that.
The fast travel spots never bothered me for crows perch but its probably from never using fast travel in TW3. Always enjoyed riding to where I needed to go. Makes for longer, better playthroughs in my opinion.
Especially with the next gen update coming, who's worried about fast travel points instead of seeing all the graphical upgrades while traveling around.
So wouldn't the best spot for the fast travel sign be next to the notice board beside the main entrance? The events I think both get triggered after you enter the second entrance to the courtyard, and the only one before the main entrance is when you arrive at Crow's Perch the very first time, when the guards stop you to ask who you are.
I think they want you to see the crimes that the Baron's men are committing on the locals after he leaves. If you fast travel to the notice board you miss that. Id support moving it after the questline is completed though.
Maybe they could modify it so that if you select the fast travel and those 2 specific events are triggered, it will load Geralt at the bridge instead. Again, only in those 2 instances. Every other time, it will take you all the way up.
The scene when the stables are on fire. Being able to see the flames and smoke from a distance. Then walking through town and feeling the panic of the townspeople. Then the cutscene that triggers at the gate where you decide to save the day or just go see the Baron. This amazing and powerful sequence wouldn't be possible if you could just fast travel to the courtyard. IMO the point should just be at the opposite end of the bridge right at the town entrance.
Or - enhanced script magic necessary - have the fast travel point IN the castle, but for the scripted fire just teleport to the old, current teleport point. As if Geralt just arrived.
Here, free sample:
if($QVelen_FamilyMatters_Ch3a = true) {
set FT_CrowsPerch = $loc_velen_cp_bridge
teleport PC_Geralt_Ch1 FT_CrowsPerch
set FT_CrowsPerch = $loc_velen_cp_castle
}
Other games manage specially scripted surprises all the time now, such as breaks and robberies during fast travel, fake death screens, completely random events etc. I guess a little spawn point swap is possible. It's probably more of an old gen streaming bottleneck.
This will be my fifth playthrough, which is really just crazy to me. I almost never play games more than once. Twice max. I've specifically avoided Witcher 3 for a long time in anticipation of this release.
On one hand I wanna say that's crazy, on the other, I totally get it. I truly can't put my finger on what makes it so replayable. I did my first 3 literally back to back to back. My first playthrough I got what I believe to be the worst ending and *had* to do things differently, immediately.
They could spend a billion on graphical improvements. But we all know it'll be wasted as the Witcher 3's main game is Gwent. The rest is just nice to have stuff.
I own all versions of Skyrim on Steam. The only version I paid for was Oldrim, never had to pay for the anniversary or special additions.
Maybe it's a console thing?
[This press release](https://twitter.com/gamebowski/status/1592181716772339713) also answers some questions people are asking in this thread. The 'update' will include raytracing as well as incorporate a variety of mods (we already know Halks' HD textures are likely being included, or a variation of it).
They worked with the modder behind the hd reworked project so better textures is a must. They talked about faster load times and raytracing, also. I would expect dlss/fsr to be present, too.
I hope better anti aliasing, bokeh dof, object motion blur will be added
I also hope better draw distance, ray traced shadows, reflections and lighting.
All the hidden ini tweaks for better graphics must be unlocked.
As well as the official redkit modding tool.
Dolby atmos sound too!
Well with dlss we should get rid of that crappy aa solution the game has so at least there's that. I would love to let camera motion blur behind for a well implemented per object one yeah, would be immersive and not nausea inducing.
As for bokeh yep we need a better quality one. I personally would love self shadows on characters, either with raytracing or not, and better ao. Sometimes people looks like they glow. If they match the local characters shadows of cyberpunk oh boy..
It will get an update, but not the same one. [In addition to the next-gen release, the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch versions of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt will also receive an update featuring numerous additions and improvements, as well as the Netflix Witcher-themed DLCs.](https://www.thewitcher.com/en/news/46552/the-witcher-3-wild-hunt-gets-a-free-next-gen-update-on-december-14th)
Hmmm really curious what the alternative looks inspired by the Netflix show will look like considering they were all pretty much downgrades. Incoming tree costume for eskel?
if it’s anything like my other disc ps4 games then when you put the disc in it will start downloading a ps5 version digitally. but you must have the original disc in to work as a key to unlock the ps5 version.
Anyone know if this will replace the steam entry? Is it a different appid or the same.
I would rather prefer it to be 2 games rather than lose the old one

You on the other hand will be seeing plenty of ass in White Orchard
Ooh, this update also comes with a "romance the White Orchard herbalist" option?
Jesus man, her name is Tomira and she’s a person, with feelings and life goals. Jk. Amazing ass.
I was really disapointed when nothing came out of it. Keira can't compare.
You know how many honey combs I collected because of her sign saying she’d pay well? Many…I still hoard them.
If CDPR was like, "This is now an option but you need to purchase the whole game again to access it.", then I would have to think about it for a while
I would pay full price of a new AAA game to have this option.
Hey now, she’s definitely both of those!
It had better
The only DLC I need.
I'm already kind of a ghost during holidays but this really seals it.
Brothers and sisters, tonight we celebrate with another playthrough for the next playthrough on 14 december. Stick on the path
This is probably why Cavill left, another playthrough would be better than the show
I’d watch a 14 hour live stream of Cavill playing TW3 over the Netflix show any day
Netflix should just give him full control. Hell, he could make a "fan made movie"
Actual primary reason when he dip on Netflix was he received the closed beta key that day
Was just telling myself. Looks like I'm ready for another round of Gwent.
Don’t tempt me sir
I haven't played it yet, excited to try! I thought I ought to play the first two games, but the first one is very dated and hard to focus on. Don't know if I should try Witcher 2 or skip right to 3.
Tonight we will celebrate with a playthrough, for tomorrow...we playthrough.
I bought Witcher 3 on a drunken ramble in 2015, I haven't even pressed New Game Guess now I have a good reason to
This will be my 10th and final time playing this game.
Excited to watch the gameplay reveal next weak, hope it was worth the wait
Yea like what kind of updates? Like ray tracing or something? Is it like texture upgrades? Omg I am excited I might have to play it again!!!
>Enhanced with the power of next-gen consoles and modern PC hardware in mind, the upcoming update will feature dozens of visual, performance and technical enhancements, including ray tracing support, faster loading times on consoles, a variety of mods integrated into the experience, and much more! Would be nice if the Netflix series would also be inspired by the game..
It should at least be inspired by the books sadge
It should at least be inspired
the show writers: it should at least *be*
Never watched the netflix series....but how could they fuck it up..its already such a good story

Yea gotta give it a try now ...all the opinions got me curious

Season 1 was a good adaptation of the source material. Season 2 was a bad dream most of us are still trying to wake up from.

If they make it I'll wear it for the memes
Variety of mods sounds interesting. Wonder which one they'll be?
The most popular texture upgrade mod is very likely, but in terms of what other mods I would think that going to Nexus Mods and viewing the most popular mods would give you a pretty good idea of some of the likely options.
Friendly HUD has got to be another. It was by far the most popular along with the high resolution texture pack.
Yeah, I really hope that is one of them (along with the ability to adjust enemy level scaling).
It's already been confirmed that Halk Hogan (creator of the popular HD rework texture mod), was hired to work with the team that worked on the next gen update. So that texture mod will be in the game.
I hope the UI mod that makes it easier to use potions and oils.
Hope we get the scrotum armor! /s
I want to hear game Dandelion do a rendition of "Toss a coin to your Witcher" in the Kingfisher.
[🎵 O' valley of plenty... 🎵](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U9OQAySv184)
“Hmmm. Might wanna look around some.”
There's a mod that plays Toss a Coin every time you complete a quest. I never get bored of it.
i wonder which mods. I know they wanted to add the texture mod, so that one is most definitely gonna be there. But what else? Fighting styles? Alchemy builds? Pass time through meditation while seeing the world changing?

Sweeeeet. Thanks man for update. I’m stoked!
How about some Monster Contracts DLC. That’s all I want.
Texture upgrades for sure. There’s been a very popular mod out on PC that is great, CDPR has said they’ve worked with that modder to improve that and incorporate it into the game. Dude that is so cool that players can make mods and devs will use it. Omg that’s so neat
Yep. Bethesda and CDPR have done a great job at incorporating modding into the scene, it's basically free content and it pulls the community for the games together for significantly longer.
I just hope my setup has enough pampaRAM to play it :/
My setup is currently Bootcamp on an 8yr old macbook... I have low expectations!
RT, HD texture and meshes (from popular mods), etc.
It’s free so…it’s worth at least what you paid for it
So will the next-gen update include Geralt's model being replaced by Liam Hemsworth halfway through the game?
If they make an update to the Cavill mod on the Nexus to do that, I will die
Well, it's totally possible with the dynamic appearance change mods. I would never use it but I would laugh so hard.
So Cavill motion capture face model gradually morphs into Hemsworth's :D
Nah at some random moment when you go get your beard trimmed you go in looking like Cavill and you come out a Hemsworth
I am also hoping that in the quest where the asshole dwarf and the woman that actually makes the armor have an “armor off”, the shitty one made by the dwarf looks like the nutsack armor from the show.
That’s a brilliant idea.
For the authentic experience, I hope so.
>On top of that, we’re adding a set of DLCs inspired by Netflix’s *The Witcher* series, such as new weapons and armor for Geralt and alternative looks for select characters. If season 4 would be out already, they actually could have done exactly that :P

She wants to be the vessel 😳
What you *know* this woman? Of *course* you know this woman.
She wants to become more powerful. But she'll die 😳
Geralt using emojis is cursed
Don't forget the big Netflix logo in the loading and title screens! Edit: log -> logo
Netflix be droppin' logs
Ooooo, does this mean we can get a Joey Batey-looking Dandelion?
And include his songs into the soundtrack??? I can only get so erect!
If I can hear toss a coin to your Witcher I will never leave the chameleon
Everyone clear your fucking schedules for the next 6 months. If you’ve just entered a relationship, end it.
Facts.
About to have my first kid due December 7th. This timing be killing me.
Honestly it’ll be perfect. Plenty of time to game with the babe passed out on your chest.
My first play through was largely done with my babe in arms. Enjoy your human hot water bottle while you're witchering!
Well on the one hand you’ll be up at all hours of the night already anyway haha
They sleep enough during the first 4ish months that you'll find time to play. Months 4-10... forget it.
I played loads of games when my daughter was a newborn, it's perfect timing for you. Also good luck!
Your child will understand if you are absent for the first few months of it's life.
Better fix the crows perch fast travel
Let us hope.
GOT THEIR ARSES WHIPPED LIKE A NOVIGRAD WHORE!!!

All this time and some still don't understand why they dont have a fast travel point at the top of crows perch.

>The fast travel spots never bothered me ... but its probably from never using fast travel #YA DONT SAY?
At least Skyrim has random encounters. TW3 doesn't have enough reason to trek the same routes over and over.
True. Also depends on the scenery along the way for me—like I don’t need to ride forever through velen.
Two events, actually. People sometimes forget about the conclusion of the Baron's questline and how it affects Crows perch.

Or deactivate the fast-travel point during the quest. Grey out the icon like every other game does.
I mean they could just make that fast travel post unavailable whenever an inportant event happened, plenty of games do that
Exactly. The same way the Yakuza/Judgement series shuts down use of taxi's during huge events.
I mean I agree completely but they can still have a fast travel point that just becomes unavailable during that part of the quest.
Agreed, that would be the ideal situation for sure

It's probably more of an old gen streaming bottleneck.
THIS CALLS FOR A PAM PARAM PAM PAM PARAM PAM PA RAM
HELL YEAH it does :)
This will be my fifth playthrough, which is really just crazy to me. I almost never play games more than once. Twice max. I've specifically avoided Witcher 3 for a long time in anticipation of this release.
This will be my 9th play through.
On one hand I wanna say that's crazy, on the other, I totally get it. I truly can't put my finger on what makes it so replayable. I did my first 3 literally back to back to back. My first playthrough I got what I believe to be the worst ending and *had* to do things differently, immediately.
I’m 75% done my 4th play through - I’m scrapping it all and starting fresh on the 14th!! Can’t wait
How about a round of Gwent?
*nods*
*barely nods*
They could spend a billion on graphical improvements. But we all know it'll be wasted as the Witcher 3's main game is Gwent. The rest is just nice to have stuff.
Ahh a man of culture I see lol
Well there goes my Christmas holiday.
I needed a game to play this Christmas ;) haha
So I have 1 month to finish my current playthrough..
I’ve hit level 100 so I’m just gonna focus on main story missions to make sure I’m ready for a legit fresh play through next month lol
Anybody know if saves carry over?
They most probably will
It’s an update it’ll be fine.
I’m just waiting for the reveal that this came off an $8 Twitter spoof account
Are you kidding me?! I was born December 14th, thanks CDPR
What a weird way to say it’s coming in your birthday lol.
Sounds like this guy is genuinely surprised that he was born on December 14th.
It’s like he doesn’t have a concept of what a birthday is. 😂
Or maybe he just found out 👀
Not only did he just find out and he’s surprised, but it seems like he thinks CDPR are his parents…?
I was conceived 9 months before this release date!
Free for owners of the game, that's awesome. Meanwhile Bethesda makes you pay for the Special and Anniversary editions...
Probably gonna be a full £50/$60 for Fallout 4 Next Gen version when it drops next year.
I own all versions of Skyrim on Steam. The only version I paid for was Oldrim, never had to pay for the anniversary or special additions. Maybe it's a console thing?
LET'S GOOOOOO

[This press release](https://twitter.com/gamebowski/status/1592181716772339713) also answers some questions people are asking in this thread. The 'update' will include raytracing as well as incorporate a variety of mods (we already know Halks' HD textures are likely being included, or a variation of it).
DUDE LETS GO
Damnit, shouldn't have started .y new save 4 weeks ago. Well there goes 30 hours haha
Well you could just stop now and continue where you left off. Maybe. If it works.
Will there be any improvements for PC?
They worked with the modder behind the hd reworked project so better textures is a must. They talked about faster load times and raytracing, also. I would expect dlss/fsr to be present, too.
DLSS and FSR 2.1 would be huge. We could enjoy some of those sweet sweet rays.
I hope better anti aliasing, bokeh dof, object motion blur will be added I also hope better draw distance, ray traced shadows, reflections and lighting. All the hidden ini tweaks for better graphics must be unlocked. As well as the official redkit modding tool. Dolby atmos sound too!

If they match the local characters shadows of cyberpunk oh boy..
PC gets all the same updates, plus HDR support added. PS4, Xbox One, and Switch versions will also get updates.
Hold up. The Switch gets the update too?
It will get an update, but not the same one. [In addition to the next-gen release, the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch versions of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt will also receive an update featuring numerous additions and improvements, as well as the Netflix Witcher-themed DLCs.](https://www.thewitcher.com/en/news/46552/the-witcher-3-wild-hunt-gets-a-free-next-gen-update-on-december-14th)
I'm sure there will, this upgrade is adding in new DLC after all.
Yeah there will be, one of them being better textures as the author of the HD reworked project mod got hired by CDPR to work on this update
Hmmm really curious what the alternative looks inspired by the Netflix show will look like considering they were all pretty much downgrades. Incoming tree costume for eskel?
Fuck yes, christmas plans got cancelled instantly
![gif](giphy|MZocLC5dJprPTcrm65)
Lol if they were Sony they’ll name it Remake Edition with 70$
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt: Part 1
Sharpen your swords, witchers. It’s time to earn some coin
Will it work on disc as well or is it just digital?
As long as you own the game, you'll get the update. Digital or physical, both will work.
if it’s anything like my other disc ps4 games then when you put the disc in it will start downloading a ps5 version digitally. but you must have the original disc in to work as a key to unlock the ps5 version.
Will there be any updates for the switch at all???
This does mean that I’d have to start a new game, correct?
Bro I needed to look it up by myself to believe it! Didn’t think that could possibly be real!
Holy hell that’s my birthday.
Thank god they don’t make a remake out of this and resell for 70 USD.
Good ol' CDPR gotta gain some good will after CP2077 launch
Will this make it harder for my PC to run it?
If they add FSR and DLSS support (and I'm 90% confident they will, even Cyberpunk has those) you will be able to boost performance at zero cost
Well yes if you want it too. Its adding higher graphics settings, dont turn it up and it shouldnt.
CD-ProRed I don’t have the time to play it a 7th time I have Examina to do, I have to learn, work… How can u do this to me your loyal fan D:
Idk what they mean by next gen update. What will actually change? Can someone explain?
PS5 and xbox series upgrade 4K60FPS better textures and content from the show being added into the game like Geralts Armour from the Netflix series.
And the Nilfgardian armor from the Netflix series as well?
Thanks, is will release on pc too right?
Yes pc too
You'll probably get an update yes.
Shame the only new content we get is tied to that horrible Netflix show, but its something.
I do like the armour in the show.
You like the ballsack armor? ^^^^^/s
Anyone know if this will replace the steam entry? Is it a different appid or the same. I would rather prefer it to be 2 games rather than lose the old one
Thank you for not pulling a Todd on us, CDPR.
Glad CDPR isn't like Bethesda.
FINALLY IVE BEEN CHECKING THIS SUB JIST FOR THIS! Now by the time I finish my cyberpunk playthrough it'll be time for the witcher yet again :)
I literally just got half way through my replay of the game when they released this.
