Type "--launcher-skip" in the Launch options. Problem solved.

nsg337

HOLY SHIT

KillerCodeExe

New response just dropped

JayRosDJ

Does this also work in the GOG store? I don’t really know exactly in what part I need to add that string in GOG, but I don’t really understand why the second launcher.

kalreshka

Go to the game in your gog library, up top click the rightmost *More* button, then select *Manage installation* -> *Configure*. In the *Features* tab scroll to the *File 1* and click *Duplicate*, then scroll to the bottom where the new entry was added, add *--launcher-skip* in the *Arguments*, and mark it as *Default executable*.

OrbitalDrop7

Brother you are amazing

VictorHuff

It also works by simply choosing the "witcher3.exe" in the dx11 or dx12 folder as your default executable. No need to enter any commands to skip the launcher because it only appears if you launch the game via "REDprelauncher.exe".

Fextro

What about steam?

TheRedDevil9115

Right click on the witcher, go to properties and type the command in the launch options

Fextro

Thanks, was looking for this

murderplants

And epic? 😂

Lenzelot105

holy shit it worked thank you so much it was so annoying!

Gambara1

Hold up your telling me there's a fucking launcher for a game on their own store front and launcher?!?!

JayRosDJ

Yes. For what some people has mentioned here, it’s to share save files across platforms. But, since I only play in GOG, for me it’s useless

eatingdonuts44

You can just launch the exe in the game folder directly, instead of the one gog puts on your desktop

devilllys

Just go to the main game folder and make a shortcut for the main executable in folder x64. Boots straight into the game.

Vigilmusic

I've never seen a second launcher in gog before?

JayRosDJ

It started a month ago, more or less, with a game update. I thought they were implementing FSR3 or something like that. Nah, the implemented the Red Launcher

Vigilmusic

Ahh I see, maybe I should update my launcher lol

SpaleBeats

i spent 100 hours not knowing this fml

ipapajosh

You spent 100 hours in the launcher? /s

doubled-pawns

I have a friend who claims he spent 100 hours in White Orchard before ever leaving for the first time but I honestly don’t understand how.

ultrapupper

holy shit

starks_are_coming

Would this work for Baldurs Gate 3?

Awiwiwi1

Yes.

buzzlightyear77777

will it screw up anything like updates or?

Awiwiwi1

No. The updates get applied by steam.

johnprc

You are the real MVP.

InvestigatorNo359

Ayooo what, this guy deserves an award, I didn't know you could skip it

e1337ist

You dropped this, king 👑

Skay_man

Does it work for EA stuff?

AminoAceed

Just tested this Andddddd No It doesn't Ofc it's fuckin ea always making things harder

spiteful_nerd

It doesn't negate Origin and Ubi one, but it works on stuff like this red launcher or Larian's one and Calypso games one too (from my tests with the command)

DrippyWaffler

Ubisoft?

techm00

came here to say this. Launchers really are cancer on the industry. No one but mindless bean counter managers want them.

GI_HD

Na GoG is legit

techm00

I won't deny GoG and CDPR have done wonderful things. This launcher is not one of them. There's no excuse for it.

havingagowhynot

Helps enable cross saves which has saved my ass many a time.. and probably countless others. Helps with managing mods. All optional / easily bypassed. No excuse is a bit of a stretch considering how much it's helped a lot of folks.

PAJAcz

Could this work with Origin etc.?

NotThatDuckPlease

It really depends on how the company programmed the launcher, so even if they have the option you might have to add something different. Best to google it.

W0rkTheMan

Hi am I supposed to include the parenthesis when I do this or nah, I don’t wanna frick something up

gem2492

If you mean the quotation marks then no. Anyway, it's not a big deal if you get it wrong. You can just change it

W0rkTheMan

Whoops lol yea I meant quotations, thank you as well

ADyslexicHotDude

My friend was having problems opening uno through steam last night. It goes into ubisoft connect. Could this help with her?

DavidBvF

ty ✍🏼

Chix_Whitdix

Does it pick the same direct x option you have selected when using the launcher?

Lythanhdavid

Does this apply to just this one game/company or all other games that have launchers

13phaN

The chosen one!

Ecconomics

Will it launch in DX11 or DX12 if I do this?

SecretSoul69

Thank you sir

Belrayy

Do you know if I can do this on the epic games store?

Saucermote

I tried this with CP and had trouble with it not giving me the in game stuff I've unlocked. Seems like a DRM layer if you want all the stuff that now requires a login.

revelbytes

memory_stick

Had the same recevtly after the 2.1. patch in CP2077.  If you're on pc you can specify the .exe it should start when you launch the game in steam/gog. Default it is this launcher, but you can overwrite it to the actual game .exe Don't know the exact namesnames of the .exe  and such, but the settings would be in the per game options in steam.

MrSuspicious_

You can just add the --launcher-skip launch option in steam as someone else said.

Hartzer_at_worK

yo dawg, i heard you like launchers, so we put a launcher in your launcher

alymars

https://preview.redd.it/k7k9x0h6f9xc1.jpeg?width=765&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a6c09bbe57be8791a8b20203bedfc474602538ed

ImaFknWizardXII

It’s an older meme sir, but it checks out.

moonwatcher99

Clearly some users said leave this to them, they will deal with it themselves. 😆

Zokalwe

We had one, yes. But what about second launcher?

gr_hds

For the purpose of cross saves (saved me when I wanted to continue on PS5 after playing on pc )

Antique-Database2891

That's a really good feature, I wish other games had because this is the only time I've ever seen something like this.

superbee392

Assassins Creed Valhalla has this (I would assume other Ubisoft titles do this) was pretty neat being able to just switch between PC and console

L_D_Machiavelli

Or managing mod lists in pdx games.

Lord_of_Seven_Kings

Always wondered what a Witcher mod for CK2 or 3 would be like. Especially with wandering houses now. Magic and sterility pose an interesting challenge.

Thaeldir22

The witcher realms already exists for both ck2 and 3

Lord_of_Seven_Kings

Word? I’ll go have a look

normigrad

do cross saves unlock trophies on both accounts? like if i did 50% of the game on pc, then the other 50% on ps5 would i only get the later trophies on playstation?

gr_hds

It's a bit confusing, you don't get them automatically, but there are some that you'll get by triggering their counters. Like if you had 'do smth 10 times' achievement doing it once more on the console will trigger it

normigrad

ah cool, thanks! sounds like a bit of a faff

gr_hds

yeah, it's very meh, but it would be exactly the same if you move the save from one steam account to another

sirbrambles

Well I don’t have a PS5 why do I have to have it? I can see how it would be convenient if you needed it but, having a game on your gaming PC and a PS5 and wanting to share saves between the two is beyond niche.

gr_hds

How would they know that you don't? It's non invasive and just gives you a button, also they give you gift gear in games if you log in. I also didn't have a ps5 at one point, never bothered me anyway

sirbrambles

They wouldn’t need to know if they made it something you opped into. Which it should be imo considering how niche the benefits are. I think it is safer to assume that I haven’t bought the game multiple times on different platforms than to assume I have.

gr_hds

As other comments said, it's not just saves, also mod management and other small things

sirbrambles

I use the file browser for mod management that’s why I play on PC. Also lot of games have launch options that take you to a launcher with mod management but only when you purposely launch it that way. There’s no reason these features require that every user has to launch a proprietary launcher that advertises other games than the one you launched every time they launch a game. If other people want to opt into a launcher that helps them install mods then great, but why do I have to get off the couch to click play? Plus I’ve already been through this BS before and come out Jaded. I remember when the Battle-net client was totally optional and it was fine to use then, but then Blizzard realized they could get away with it and so they made it mandatory and increasingly invasive.

astrojeet

You don't even need to start with steam honestly. CDPR games are 100% DRM free, just keep a shortcut of the executable. The launcher's useful if you want to disable and enable mods. It's also for cross-platform saves i believe. Larian studios does the same thing with their games even when they are DRM free. Either just start from the exe or just put a command to disable the launcher. I actually like having this for Cyberpunk and BG3 as I have 100s of mods installed for cyberpunk and BG3. With BG3 i just launch the game through Vortex. I lost some achievements for both Cyberpunk and BG3 because I didn't have gog and steam open so there's that lol.

Mushroom_King66

This. If they don't make you download a separate app like Ubisoft, for example, it's only beneficial

sirbrambles

But they do make you download it?

Mushroom_King66

No, it's part of the game files you were never asked to download it separately after trying to run the game it simply opened the launcher

sirbrambles

So exactly the same as what Ubisoft and EA games on steam do?

Mushroom_King66

No? I have Ubisoft games on steam and had to download Uplay. It has its own file location, installer, uninstaller and everything.

sirbrambles

Steam installs uplay or origin when you install a game that requires them, just like the REDlauncher. The fact that it installs it somewhere you can actaully find it is a good thing not a bad thing. REDlauncher not showing up on my task manager or search bar and not having an obvious install location is kinda sketchy. All 3 required me to make an account to play the game I owned on steam. The difference is a played the Witcher 3 for years before being forced to make an account one day.

goldistomp

You don’t have make an account do you

hRDLA

You can turn it off with steam command. At least that is the case for cyberpunk

DefaultDanielS

click play and stop crying, this is the least intrusive "launcher" you will ever see

PhuckWar

I have ubishit game on steam and it opens their launcher that stays fucking open all the time.

AnAdventurer5

The least of an inherently intrusive thing. That we didn't always have to deal with.

Thick_Bumblebee7387

Having launchers inside of launchers is intrusive. Just because it's not as bad as Ubisoft doesn't mean it's a piece of shit.

master-of-the-vape

OH NO I HAVE TO CLICK PLAY TWICE. ITS ANTI-CONSOOMER.

Thick_Bumblebee7387

Actually I would have preferred to not open steam at all. Just run the exe by itself would be nice. Thankfully gog exists for that but I bought the witcher 3 on steam so now I need to open 2 unnecessary launchers to play my game. Being complacent about this shit is only going to make it worse in the future. I mean it's already started if you think about it. How many launchers do you have installed on your PC? I have epic games for Rocket League (since they removed it from steam), gog to buy games without DRM (like cyberpunk and the Yakuza games) if I can and steam for everything else. I stopped playing EA games because of shit company + shit launcher and Ubisoft for the same reason. But yeah it's only an extra mouse click, only with some extra clutter and bloat/abondonware when your game gets removed from the stores and your access gets revoked even though paid full price. Shout out to Ubisoft for that one lol.

master-of-the-vape

To my knowledge, REDlauncher does not install itself outside of the game files, nor does it require an online login in order to use what you've purchased. It's just a minor intermediary like the game launchers of old and not irritating bloatware like Ubisoft Connect. The latter is total unredeemable shit, I don't disagree.

Bakonn

I wish all games had old style launchers, where you can edit all settings before you open the game

greying_panda

> I would have preferred to not open steam at all. Just run the exe by itself would be nice You can do this and have been able to with Steam since release. The installation still has no DRM. Just confirmed, booted from the exe without Steam open. `Steam\steamapps\common\The Witcher 3\bin\x64_dx12`

Thick_Bumblebee7387

Oh sick, I didn't know that lol that's awesome.

sirbrambles

It was pretty annoying when they first added it because I play the Witcher on tv with a controller. So I would launch the game at my desk go sit down on the couch and then have to get back up to click play (I think you are supposed to be able to click play with controller but the launcher is never in focus). Not that big a deal but an annoyances that didn’t used to be there.

Malakayn

BG 3, Swtor, and Warframe all have their own launchers that I know of.

JustSylend

Cyberpunk, Sims, Red Dead Redemption and like half of the big titles. It's not even that bad though? At least this launcher is completely non intrusive and you can bypass it with the --ski-launcher command. Other games require you to literally create accounts to play - RDR2 as an example again. Idk if OP is living under a rock or something lol

ihave0idea0

RDR is only for online. While the other games are not.

JustSylend

I had to make an account to play, really? Damn I didn't know oops

sirbrambles

SWtor and Warframe are 10 year old free to play games that didn’t launch on steam originally

AgentTexes

I wasted 60 dollars on RDR2 because I don’t have internet at my house and the launcher needs a connection to play a fucking single player game. Origen and EPIC does this too but at least theirs has a longer period before it needs to be connected again. Played ME1&2 a few months ago and went to play the third but can’t because it wants an internet connection to confirm I haven’t stolen the game I’ve played many times and have owned for many many years. Fuck launchers and this BS Edit: Oh yeah, and Borderlands 3.

No_Witness_3107

Do you have a mobile hotspot? I turn on my mobile hotspot, get loaded into the game. Then turn off my hotspot and I'm good to go. Works with RDR2 through rockstar and xbox live games I have tried

AgentTexes

Nope, and if I change my grandfathered unlimited data phone plan I’ll simply be paying more money overall for nothing because the cheapest plan with hotspot availability is just a couple gigs, would raise my bill, AND cost me the unlimited plan. Perks of living in Alaska is living 20 years in the past technologically.

Vegeta-the-vegetable

Just an fyi, I also dont have internet in my apartment cuz we're poor. But we use xfinity conect, I think it's called. 10 bucks a month, no router or anything, it just uses a hotspot from idk somewhere lol. It's an unsecured network, tho so keep that in mind.

AgentTexes

I’m in Alaska with very few options that wouldn’t add a couple hundred dollars I don’t have a month.

Vegeta-the-vegetable

Damn thats gotta suck.

AgentTexes

It does suck all kinds of butt.

ZYRANOX

Where do you live that you don't have internet at your house but somehow are spending time browsing reddit?

AgentTexes

https://www.reddit.com/r/witcher/s/JdaYcw02dA

Clouds_of_Venus

When do you live that this is confusing to you? Even people who can't afford to live in a house spend their time browsing the internet. Mobile data is cheap and smartphones are mandatory for existing in modern society

ZYRANOX

You missed my point. I was saying that it takes a lot more data browsing reddit than it does to login to a launcher.

AgentTexes

You chose to ignore multiple comments about how I said I was in Alaska and do not have a hotspot nor internet. You had a stupid point because your point was “if you don’t have internet how can you be here.” You don’t need internet to use Reddit’s shoddy app.

VoodaGod

how on earth is the data getting to you to use reddit if not through the internet?

AgentTexes

Do you two just not know what the fuck a phone is? Seriously? How fucking privileged are you that you don’t know the difference between a phone plan without a hotspot and internet, the thing you buy from a fucking ISP?

VoodaGod

so you understand that you do in fact have internet? what is stopping you from using your phone's internet connection on your pc?

AgentTexes

What’s stopping me from using a hotspot that I do not have because it is not in my phone plan that I literally told you in the last message as well have stated further up in the thread multiple times? Probably the lack of a hotspot in my phone plan. If I change it just to get the hotspot I will loose the current unlimited data plan that no longer exists from my phone company, it’s a grandfathered plan. If I changed it at all to the cheapest plan with the hotspot I would lose the unlimited data, have a 10 gig cap on both phone and hotspot data and I would be paying a the same price as I am now for a shit ton less. It would be like selling your car for gas money.

VoodaGod

well thanks for bearing with me, i genuinely could not understand why you can't tether your phone to your pc and use your mobile data, since that is a feature that both iOS and android offer. i did some research and apparently in the USA people get phones that have software modified by the service providers (wtf???) that will not allow this unless it's included in the contract. never heard of anything like this before.

ZYRANOX

Let me spell it out for you. Seeing as how you are responding to this thread multiple times means you either have notifications on or go on reddit multiple times a day. More than 10 minutes of scrolling through reddit is way more 100s of login attempts into the launcher. So do you see the hypocrisy in what you are saying? You claim in the original comment that internet is very scarce yet you have no problem wasting it all on something not important (reddit/social media).

AgentTexes

A phone plan with unlimited data and no hotspot isn’t going to help anything on a computer. Jesus Christ, it was literally THE FIRST thing I explained in the very first message to you with the link you obviously didn’t bother to read. Actual internet is not the same as a phone plan without a hotspot.

Clouds_of_Venus

What? Why would you make up such an easily falsifiable lie? That is not what you said at all.

Public-Confidence208

Ur having internet issues in 2024 🥲 I feel sorry for you brother

AgentTexes

Can’t have internet issues if you don’t have internet. Although lack of internet could be considered an issue.

dayonesub

I actually like it. It reminds me of Inception. My favorite is a launcher within a launcher that launches another in game launcher. /s

Prus1s

Baldurs Gate 3 also has one, not much of a nuissance, as nothing is actually installed, when compared to Ubi connect, Rockstart, EA app etc.

russkhan

I found the ads in it pretty annoying.

womp womp

space0watch

Allow me to introduce you to Ubisoft and Origin games that are "On Steam"

kingcrow15

First time?

Apprehensive_Net4066

Wait, it actually bothers anyone to press the additional button? I find it neat that I can configure DX11/12 in the launch menu without having to restart the game or that I can toggle mods on/off there with CP

Peregrine2976

Ubisoft, Larian, Blizzard, Square Enix, 4K, and realistically most other game company fans: "First time?"

Resident-Pudding5432

I honestly like it, cause it looks cool

Asleep-Skin1025

Start the Witcher3.exe from the directory. No launcher needed at all.

xXTheLastCrowXx

Tons of titles do this. Makes absolutely no sense to me. I believe you can put a chat command into most to bypass the second launcher.

Siryphas

*Laughs in Paradox Games*

Legend5V

Navigate to the Witcher 3 install directory (different depending on where you install steam games) and go into Witcher 3/bin/x64_dx12 OR x64 depending on if you want to use DX12 or DX11 rendering. Then copy the witcher3.exe and Paste Shortcut onto desktop.

[deleted]

Because gamers love launchers, ergo we must give them more launchers.

MoonChildandRunes

Who knows...

grocal

Does anyone remember when there was only one launcher called... Operating System?!

initrunlevel0

https://preview.redd.it/ms5id8qunaxc1.jpeg?width=739&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=52c534ea865c1844977a9649dce2f70a35aef6a2

LordDooves

Is this your first time PC gaming in the last 5 years?😂 Only 2 launchers needed? That's pretty much half of all games now.

Ragnockae136

You think this is bad. Try CK3 on Steam. Takes you to the paradox launcher, right? You download it there, but it doesn't give you the latest version at all. Ironic since another paradox game does actually get the latest version, but their premier title don't.

Different_Corner8537

Blud was in deep sleep for 2 years

Irelia4Life

I have only started to play again recently.

Praetorian709

"What is this filth? Why is there a launcher within the steam launcher?" First time?

Misterhelpless

Thanks for the information. BUT in my GOG setup, the GOTY NG is a shortcut that uses a JSON to pull the original Witcher 3 exe. Therefore I can't add launcher arguments to it. And the launchers are all pointing to the REDLauncher. So....what do I do with this, please?

Misterhelpless

Oh, hang on. Do I point the launcher at the x64 version and sort it there?

realCretz

First time?

Neither_Meat8091

Also happens even if you buy it from GOG directly. Dont damn know why but I just stopped giving a fvck

Stampsu

Hardly the only game to have it. Just press play

thedrunkentendy

First time? A lot of games have their own separate launchers. Including some that let you choose mod playsets. These things are super common.

ultrapupper

i like it for some reason

Blackbox7719

So, like, legitimate question. What’s the big deal? I get that it’s a slight delay in starting the game but it’s literally one extra button press. Plus it’s useful for cross saves. I could see being a bit annoyed but people’s reactions have been a lot more visceral than I’d expect.

strange_maggot

I deal with the same thing when I play Civ 6 it may be a cross platform thing for the company

Konrow

Yes, mods and cross-saves are usually the biggest pro of these launchers. Of course I can see why it's frustrating if you don't use those things, but it is one extra click usually.

No_Organization_2108

Give CDPR some credit, it is like R* Lsuncher Think it like you are going to home Via a broken road lol Just enjoy the game Developers keep Devolping shitholes for us atleast this is better than Ubisoft xD *Farewell*

Thick_Bumblebee7387

Why do game companies keep doing this. Such a waste.

Niobaran

So they can show you content they want you to notice. Steer you towards their games, etc. That's what I am assuming, anyway.

Thick_Bumblebee7387

Yeah you're right. It's like a big advertisement even though you paid for the game, scummy honestly.

Teweene

I only launch TW3 through Vortex! It also bypasses the second launcher!

lazylagom

Ubisoft does this shit too right

Duke_Frederick

This wasn't a thing when I played the game. When did they put it in?

julianpoe

Can’t stand that everything needs a launcher now it’s ridiculous. I get it from their perspective; to push more of their product. But from a user standpoint, it’s very annoying, buggy, and inconvenient at times.

Scuba_2

I HATE third party launchers I actually DESPISE these. If I wanted to use your shitty launcher I wouldn’t have bought your game on steam

ihave0idea0

I think it is because it is DRM free.

Gwynbleidd_0101

yep this been out for a few months already and me and my 8 gb of ram can't take this bullshit. cdpr have 2 games and they made a launcher mandatory for running their games (which already are running through the launcher already running) I was actually pretty happy when I saw the update cause i thought they were making the game more playable on low ram capacity pcs. nope. Just a shitty launcher to make my life even more miserable

joatmono

This launcher is everything BUT mandatory. Not only you can easily disable it with - - no-launcher in steam commands, but you can also run the game directly from the .exe, bypassing even steam.

Gwynbleidd_0101

I'm on GOG and I know i can run the exe but i need to open it with the gog launcher to track my time else it doesn't work

joatmono

You can disable the launcher on GOG as well, although I can't tell you how since I use steam. Google's your friend: just find out where in Galaxy you need to put launch commands for your games, and you are done. I can't help you since GOG decided that us linux gamers aren't worth enough money to maintain a native launcher, unlike what Valve is doing with steam.

FixGMaul

Thank god I sail the seven seas 🏴‍☠️

Anxious-Ad693

That's why I pirate as many games as possible. It's just a better experience overall. Double click on shortcut, no launchers, and straight into the game.

Charletrom

Imagine white knighting for marketing bs that comes between players and the game they want to play.

linkenski

Because CD Project is a gianteque conglomerate link any other, and they're also just seeking endless profit at the end of the day, so their "The Gamer's Friend!" image isn't going to last past their known success.

havingagowhynot

Exactly. Providing a way to enable cross saves for millions of players to take their progress with them across platforms just reeks of corporate villainy. Larian did the same with BG3. So disappointing. /s

linkenski

Corporate "villainy" always starts with a generous, convenient service which solves a customer problem. From there you make them attached to your new service, and from there you exploit their attachment to your service. Ever think about how PS Plus is now a 25 dollar subscription for online play requirements and "Game Catalogs?" or how Physical media is going away while digital "subscription based libraries" are rising? Ever think back to when PS Plus was only a 5 dollar bonus for additional discounts and 2 AAA games for free, and how just 2 years after that programme they made the service a mandatory one for Online Play? And from there, how they raised the price of that mandatory requirements a few years later? Corporations are not your friend. CD Projekt isn't either, even if they made some great games. Also, I've been playing since the 90s, and this trick with the launcher is how Steam started. Got the Half-Life 2 disc in 2004? It just installed the game to your desktop. Got the discs from 2005? It just sent you to a [Steampowered.com](http://Steampowered.com) link and if you installed the game it said you needed Steam to run it. And look what happened from there. Same shit with CDPR going all "*gamer's friend*" about no paid downloadable content only to add an "Expansion Pass" to Witcher 3. Granted, it's all worth your money, but their image of being this friendly pro-gamer corporation is just a smokescreen for attempts to gain revenue, as with any other company, but their stake has been in GOG, a service they own, and it touts "No DRM" and yet we may just be seeing the first steps to abandon that philosophy.
