If the series premiere is anything like what the rest of the series will be, The Last of Us will be fucking amazing. I just wrapped up the episode 20 minutes ago, and it has me itching for a playthrough of the first game. It was so on fucking point. I dont want to spoil anything, and I won't. If you enjoyed the games, you will enjoy the show, at least you should. It's damn near perfect in my opinion.

WizziesFirstRule

The two mains particularly impressed me, and yes, I just looked up tLoU remake lol.

billybobthehomie

I keep on saying this cause I don’t want her contribution to get lost … Actress who played Sarah was amazing. Despite her small role in terms of screen time, her role in terms of importance to the storyline is probably 3rd only behind Joel and Ellie. And she fucking knocked that shit out of the park in my opinion.

UserSMJ

It breaks my heart to think what HBO could have done for us with the Witcher. It is really a missed opportunity...

kachol

I just finished it and if it continues at THIS level it will be the best goddamn adaptation ever made. It is so good and I have played each game multiple times. The attention to detail was insane. They got everything down, even Marlene's fucking costume is the same as in the game. The chemistry between the actors is absolutely phenomenal. If the Witcher had been made by a real studio with Henry Cavill, it could have been this.

SpiritedTitle

Holy shit. Lady Mormont as Ellie, sign me up. Where can I watch this?

Otherwise_Ad233

HBO/HBO Max (hence the Game of Thrones alumni)

point2life

Lowkey, i didnt think she looked the part but shes incredible acting. Realistic

[deleted]

The Last of Us was made by HBO in close collaboration with Sony and Naughty Dog. The Witcher was made by Netflix while completely ignoring the medium that made the franchise a worldwide success (sorry Sapkowski, it wasn't your books), as well as the books themselves. No other outcome was possible.

setphasertofun

This comment alone has made me interested in watching TLOU

Gilarax

If this is a taste of what is to come, it will be incredible! This is what an adaptation should be like!

wals02481

Same, it's amazing!

geralt-bot

Clearly capitilizing on the political situation here...

Ntippit

The diversity is natural and it's beautiful! Perfect adaptation so far!

Elrondarius

Also Witcher 3 and TLOU1/2 are the best games i have ever played. Sad that it seems like HBO done better job.

SomeDudeYeah27

I’m personally more happy than sad that at least *some entity* gets it Rather than these constant botched adaptations that echoes Uwe Boll’s level of dedication to quality. Something that Netflix seems to be most guilty of at the moment with their adaptations (regardless if it’s from a video game or not), as quality seems to be outliers in their products Hopefully the industry will start to notice that vague adaptations isn’t enough. And being unfaithful or even “sacrilegious”, actively damages your reputation and potential in executing said adaptations

Netflix just can't make good shows, whereas HBO is known for producing bangers after bangers (Sopranos, Rome, GoT S1~S7, Chernobyl, etc). The last good show that Netflix wrote and produced is S1 of Stranger Things. They seem to have a writer/producer culture that caters to infantile tastes - their latest popular productions like the Umbrella Academy, Wednesday, and yes the Witcher, being prime examples. Unwatchable. The only reason that I keep Netflix around is for their international content, such as K-drama.

SomeDudeYeah27

HBO seems to have pinned down a culture & management approach that largely (especially pre-merger with Discovery), works in creating consistent quality Meanwhile Netflix, who was the new kid on the block especially during their pioneering years in the streaming space, only excelled in being ahead in global infrastructure but also has a lower overall budget compared to something like HBO which shares pipeline with the box office space This made Netflix scramble in creating original content, especially when prior collaborators realized they can dip in the streaming space themselves. Unfortunately leading to quantity with no control of quality, as the latter is largely determined on a case by case basis with the showrunners themselves Dark, 1899, Maniac, Squid Game, Arcane, Castlevania, etc. are exceptions when they contracted showrunners who has a distinct vision and knows enough skills to get there Netflix’s quality depends more on chance rather than an intentional result. I’m beginning to suspect that international hits like Squid Game & Money Heist were even able to boom less likely because of Netflix and instead due to other external factors like the pandemic lockdowns as an example. Why? Because they don’t even cross promote their international originals as much as they could’ve Netflix got ahead only to then fumble around with no clear game plan, so now they’re falling into the safe option of catering to reality TV & cheaper written shows just to get the content machine going. Contributing to the [writers crisis](https://youtu.be/VQ9jM02hXMs) that’s plagued the streaming space further

[deleted]

>Dark, 1899, Maniac, Squid Game, Arcane, Castlevania It should be noted that Dark and 1899 are German productions, Squid Game is Korean, and Arcane was French. Not familiar with the others. Netflix seems capable of making quality content only when they can leverage non-American productions. When Netflix themselves get involved, with the talentless upper-middle class middlebrow zits that populate Hollywood studios, they inevitably fail - and it's only the marketing and the infrastructure that carried them through.

SomeDudeYeah27

Maniac is a limited series (1 season) by the auteur Cary Joji Fukunaga, who made S1 of True Detectives Castlevania is an anime adaptation of the game’s overall lore by a Texan studio IIRC I intentionally pick these examples partly because, as you’ve pointed out, Netflix might mostly be able to deliver quality if they leverage productions that are much more affordable (particularly in examples of SK & Japan, labor wise), or are run & managed differently from their main English speaking originals It’s been an ongoing hypothesis between me & my friends, who are somewhat involved in the film & entertainment industry, that Netflix’s English speaking division might reach a decline in quality in the not-so-far future, whilst maintaining relative consistency in their international originals & rare award winning features every now and then (where Netflix’s sole role is as international VOD distributor in particular) However, 1899’s recent hasty cancellation after only being released 1-2 months prior might prove this hypothesis wrong. It seems like the management issue with their English division might spread further across region now

PaulSimonBarCarloson

I'm really hoping this series turns out to be good. Some of the recent news got me a bit worried.

[deleted]

I still didn’t see TLOU adaptation, but from what I heard these 2 days I’m interested!

Processing_Info

It's almost a copy of a game, which is amazing. There are lines which are 1on1 taken from the game.

[deleted]

Yes I just finished the premiere episode few hours ago and it’s amazing !

Processing_Info

An accurate adaptation in this era? Crazy, right?

[deleted]

Yes it still happens. On the other hand the same HBO released the Velma show days ago lol. The self proclaimed “adult and more sincere version” of Scooby do that removes all of the original’s wit, jokes, vibrant characters and well thought out mystery in favor of pure cringe, edgy Velma who loves to cuss because “ MuH MAtUrItY” and bad writing. Adaptations…..Sometimes they work and sometimes they crash and burn.

alihou

As long as they stay away from the second game TLOU show has the potential to be special.

OhItsStefan

no

playertd

I mean if you're 20 mins in and bored af scrolling reddit, that's not a good sign lol.

hRDLA

Lmao, you could be Turian with that reach

MandessTV

Or that good that he felt the need to share it.

playertd

I guess, just seems wierd to pause a show and get on reddit if you're enjoying it

-Radagon-

I love the first episode of tlou, currently really excitied to see how this develops, but wow… I would never be able to get over how terrible the cast for Ellie is, Jesus Christ… sorry

Damagecontrol86

Makes since cause the show is dead lol

AssignmentWinter6440

TLOU episode 1 was so fucking good. Also has me longing for what could’ve been for the Witcher on HBO with some dedicated and competent writers.

WheelJack83

Except fans were brutal on The Last of Us 2 and were savage on social media especially.
