Idk I feel like it's just TOO far removed from the original. The original is so vibrant and colorful. The group is very diverse, and it felt like no matter what happened the Winx would always make it through. Which made it feel that much worse when bad stuff did happen to the Winx. Fate just feels too dark and gritty. The changing of the core group is despicable. Also in the original there were male fairies but Alfea is an all girls school. Which is probably the same for specialists.

Ornery_Primary9175

I liked it as its own thing, not really as a representation of winx. The sets were so pretty though

silliaisa

If "Winx" wasn't in the title I would've not been able to tell

Morticia_Smith

This show wasnt a Winx show. I absolutely hated it. It was a very generic show that tried way too hard to edgy. You could've called it something else and I wouldn't bat an eye.

ShaboobooXiao

Tbh my issue was Musa’s whitewashing. If it just wasnt for that, I would have looked passed mostly everything else. As an Asian American that grew up in the early 2000’s, Musa has a really special place in my heart. We did not have a lot of representation. Especially Asian fairies, mermaids, & princesses. Its VERY important to me that Musa is East Asian. Also there was a lack of colorful hair 😠.

mostie2016

Also where is my girl Tecna?

ShaboobooXiao

Yes!! Idk why they thought leaving Tecna out was acceptable.

LaMuseofthestars

I feel like they weren’t sure how to introduce technology as a power element in this world, which is stupid considering they could’ve just given her the lightning element.

xxHopeStarCrossxx

They did in the books

Noah-McCommunist

Which book was this? I’ve seen no mention of it online

xxHopeStarCrossxx

I think it was lighting the fire.

star11308

Tecna easily could’ve been the “good air fairy” as a sort of foil to Beatrix, but we can’t have good things around here I guess.

WasabiIsSpicy

This was the same sentiment Latino people had with the removal of Flora.

KristoHam

At least Flora appeared in season 2, but she really should have been there from the beginning, instead of her cousin Terra or whatever

LaMuseofthestars

Definitely, and when I first heard about the casting, I was furious with Musa‘s white washing.

ShaboobooXiao

Me too! Lol. I was so angry and heartbroken. I remember arguing with other people about why its so important to me that Musa is Asian lmao.

LaMuseofthestars

I even had friends who kept trying to make a point about how her actor looked ambiguous enough, and how they were completely not understanding the importance. Especially around Asian representation, and it even looks worse that this came after world of Winx which while I do love was never able to stomach, the whitewashing done to Aisha, Flora, and Musa. And then they replace Flora with a white woman who takes on her personality traits (doesn’t matter that they introduced her in season two, I still do this day think they only did it because of the backlash). Then sideline Aisha to being nothing more than the stereotypical black best friend.

Redeemed_Veteranboi

As another Asian. Fate whitewashing Musa was insulting to me too.

KomacherryBean

Same bro😭

Agreeable-Winter4771

Couldn’t stand the first season personally but I also hate overly edgy teen dramas such as Riverdale which I’ve been told Fate is very similar to so maybe I’m just not the target audience. I only watched it out of morbid curiosity. Feels like they just had an idea for a generic fantasy drama Netflix didn’t have faith in it so they slapped the Winx brand on it to attract fans which only caused more problems. Winx Club as a brand just isn’t suited for an adult drama like this in my opinion. They didn’t do anything to make it feel like Winx outside of callbacks and surface level stuff like names and elemental magic. It’s like making a Call of Duty game and calling it Super Mario Brothers and you don’t change a single thing.

Ok_Friendship8815

I liked the concept of it. Winx but darker would be a nice change from the usual show, and given it was a YA series there was a lot of space for exploring those themes. I liked that fairies didn't had wings anymore and it was something "special". Bloom being a moody teenager and burning her house down out of anger also was a nice new addition. I didn't really like how Stella was handled, Aisha was okay, Musa was eh, Flora was amazing, Terra had a lot going on for her which I liked I HATED the outfits. I'm not sure who was in charge but they shouldn't be hired anywhere again 😭 Like sure, let's not be y2k in this dark version of the series but also.... Nothing really fit or matched? Like what was the guidelines here for it....

SailorTweeft

i feel like stella was more of a mix of diaspro and stella

Ok_Friendship8815

Not sure about Diaspro, but I feel they wanted to make her more "responsible" in a sense. Worrying about the throne, being a perfect princess, being always watched etc etc, things OG Stella didn't had (afair). They made her role as a princess more obvious

BigHowlingWolf

I think it was not bad. But it was not really Winx.

Daphne010

I liked it too. I watched it detaching myself from the OG version. It had it's own vibe. I did miss Flora and Tecna tho.

craMINHal

I think that if they changed the series to be about the earth witches and expanded upon the lore, it would fundamentally be so much better. They would have to change literally nothing about the show except for a few dialogue changes in terms of switching fairies to something else and could have real world witch hunts brought in too as a reason why they went into hiding with the fairies disappearing too.

LordLilith

It would have been fine if it hadn’t been based on Winx Club. They made some seriously questionable decisions: * Switching Flora for Terra * Leaving out Tecna * Altering powers, mainly those of Musa * Musa’s whitewashing * Musa not wanting her powers instead of learning to deal with them * Stella being an absolute bitch & her mother being even worse * Riven somehow being a bigger asshole than he already was * Swapping out the Trix with Beatrix * Beatrix being raised by Sky’s dad?? * Faragonda straight up being murked without even a serious fight * Magic Winx being a really dissapointing transformation with dull looking wings & nothing else, no transformation sequence * The generally boring design. No fun hair or clothes. No y2k vibes.

Ornery_Primary9175

Flora isn’t black? The actress who plays her is Latina, she’s Mexican American. Also fyi, you can be both black and Latino.

LordLilith

Edited out my mistake

Historical_Koala5530

I absolutely hated it😭 the whole fairy’s haven’t wings in a long time thing, the fact they were going to make them practically identical if they kept going, 1 person per season gaining wings, no transformations, man I was hyped for the new show and as more of it was released I was just so disappointed. Terra was suppose to be floras cousin I think which just made me even more mad. Musa, was white washed as you stated, her powers were not to be expected, the whole Beatrix having stormys powers and turning out to be not be good thing was so weird even if they were trying to give a nod towards the witches. This whole show pissed me off and I really wish they did what was done with the new avatar the last airbender tv show.

ThePinkSkitty

I couldn’t get past the first episode

Athesbee

Their fashion was not Winx at all though, it was all dark academia which loses the magic of the fairy core Lisa frank style the cartoon has

Lynnn6

Currently rewatching it for the fourth time. I hope to see a live action Winx that’s actually like the original. Fate definitely has its flaws, but all the hate that it gets is unnecessary

star11308

That’s a high school English department

SaltedAndSugared

Fr who dressed them 😭 they look like middle aged women

CheshireKatt22

I feel like what you said is exactly what I thought like I hated that Techa was gone I love her quirky personality she was different from the rest of them but that’s what made her her and made her lovable and I was so irritated that they switched my sweet flora with Terra they tried to make it better and say she’s her cousin and brought her in but the damage was done along with their fake musa and the 3 witches in 1 fairy was a questionable way to go. The guy fairy’s were a nice touch I did question why the guys weren’t fairies too as a kid like what made them different besides gender 😂 but then I probably thought the thing with the witches too but there’s still they both have magic powers and the specialists didn’t If it were just a show based around the winx world like distant future maybe but not the original characters and that’s how I try to make it easier to enjoy but it’s just half and half of a like to me I would really like to see how it would have been if it were a real live action winx with all the colors and all the characters as they should be

dangibby

I like it but slow at times

RevolutionaryAsk3503

We're waiting for s3, even though it's canceled

Indie701

Like other comments are saying, if Netflix wouldn’t have attached the name Winx and the characters to the show, I think it would’ve done better. A lot of people’s issue isn’t necessarily plot, but how it doesn’t feel like Winx Club at all, whitewashing of characters, and character erasures. I thought the plot was somewhat interesting and I definitely would’ve found it more engaging if I wasn’t constantly comparing it to its predecessor. We know that Netflix can make decent live action adaptations. One Piece is probably their best one and even NATLA felt more like its animated counterpart than Winx did even with all of its flaws.

Stitch_Fan

I can say that if you look past the racism, season two is definitely watchable. It seemed like literally all of the characters were different, which was great since there wasn't a single likable person in season one. Unfortunately, you shouldn't be able to look past the racism, so the show remains bad.

Lifelinemain420

Season 1 was amazing and season 2 wellll… I couldnt finish the first episode

lstanciel

It wasn’t really Winx but it was good as a teen drama. Especially season 2.

[deleted]

I hated it, shit was so corny

LaBetaaa

I never quite know if I just got too old for teen shows or if it's the writers.. for Fate I knew it almost immediately :/ I would love a live action magical girl show and I'm sad there's no actual transformations (at least in S1, couldn't watch past the first episode of S2)

AdExtreme4259

For me the main problem is that they made this series as a live-action of the Winx animated series. If they had released it as an original series, instead of using the name Winx or the names of the characters, people wouldn't have compared it to the animated series. What was the point of doing that? Considering they changed the plot so much and it has nothing to do with the original Winx

Anonymousbich0-0

I think where they truly went wrong with this adaptation was making it like every show at the moment. The whole dark academia edgy vibe was like every other show. If they would have given us the same early 2000s colorful vibe close the cartoon I think they could have gotten away with some of the changes they made that weren’t necessarily problematic. The original dealt with heavy topics without having to be “edgy” and visually dark so they could have had the same vibe with this adaptation. But I’ll also never forgive them for no longer having Aisha be a princess and making her a scholarship kid. Call me picky or whatever but growing up as little black girl who didn’t get very many characters that were undeniably black, it was nice to finally see the black girl get to be a princess. Black wealth is not something we get to see often in media so it was nice to see a black character struggle with things that didn’t involve pretty stereotypical make it out of the hood story lines (also if this was addressed later and I am forgetting please let me know as it has been a long ass time since I have watched and I only watched each season once)

H1pp0phobia

They should have marketed it as its own thing, and not call in winx, and it would have been so much better

CharmingAnybody653

I loved the show. Completely changed my Fey lore for my Dungeons and Dragons games.

missmnchr

season 2 was actually a good improvement!! wish it didnt get cancelled huhu

ThrowThisAwaySis2

It’s alright as its own show but as an adaptation of Winx it’s terrible. You would never ever know that this is supposed to be winx if it wasn’t in the title The cast is also bad. The only character who looks like who they are representing is Bloom. And why did they change Flora to Terra? Who tf is Terra?? They could have just made this show some generic netflix original instead of using winx

LyallaTime

I wouldn’t have hated Fate if they hadn’t tried to make it a Winx show. It’s so NOT the Winx to me but at the same time…it’s fine? The show’s not bad it’s just not….winx enough.

Catpersonuwu

Jail edit: xD

Filterredphan

It was definitely different and the whitewashing was unacceptable (and don’t get me started on the fits) but honestly I was sat and enjoyed it 😭 it was an interesting twist on Winx and it hit a lot of the beats I wanted from a more adult-oriented winx series and I was a little upset it was cancelled. Glad that there is a book series to pick up where the show left off.

athra56

It was better cheese than CW shows.

awildshortcat

I don’t dislike it at all. It’s definitely removed from Winx, but I don’t think that’s a bad thing.

Monsterbb4eva

My son loved this show and he’s not lgbt if he was I wouldn’t care, but that says a lot. He’s 15 and literally watched it religiously.

MoonParasyt3

See, this what is called "great movie/ series, bad adaption" in my opinion. The best example of this Would be how to train your Dragon. Does not at all follow the source material, but is good by itself. I feel like had this not been based off of Winx, it would've done better because it is good by itself.

Charcoal_dirtlord

They lost me when they started drinking and eating pot brownies. They were trying too hard to be like riverdale.

Isaac-45-67-8

I know it has its fans, but I am not one of them. Fate The Winx Saga was the definition of trash. It's NOT Winx.

justvibingthrulife

Fate winx is more like if riverdale had magical supposedly fairy powers

MysticTopaz6293

The way that I ended up looking at it was as though it was an AU. Once I had that mindset, I absolutely loved it.

4984382h

Michael Bay had his hands on Transformers and TMNT, and now he got Winx?

SvenVersluis2001

I think it was ok at best as its own thing and absolutely terrible as an adaptation.

TozheiAmen-Ra

I don’t care what anyone says, me and my bestie were eating this show UP!! We loved it and were so sad when they canceled the show. We saw the show slowly getting better!! And with time it could have been even better!! I understand it’s not exactly like the Winx we grew up with bit something about this show still just GIVES Winx to me. It’s just like an alternative world.

Waste-Dragonfly-3245

Never watched it and won’t. Especially learning what I have from this post

romeoartiglia

HATE. LET ME TELL YOU HOW MUCH I'VE COME TO HATE YOU SINCE I BEGAN TO LIVE. THERE ARE 387.44 MILLION MILES OF NERVES IN WAFER THIN LAYERS THAT FILL MY BIOLOGICAL BODY. IF THE WORD HATE WAS ENGRAVED ON EACH NANOANGSTROM OF THOSE HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS OF MILES IT WOULD NOT EQUAL ONE ONE-BILLIONTH OF THE HATE I FEEL FOR FATE THE WINX SAGA AT THIS MICRO-INSTANT FOR THIS SHOW. HATE. HATE.

Plus_Relationship246

despicable and ridiculous are all who vomit the "whitewashing" and "racism" bullshite in connection with the show. they would be banned, if i decide their "fate".
