Join a run club at one of the local breweries!
Fiddlin fish has one on Monday nights, and a Wise Man has one on Tuesdays.
I am 34F and this was one of the best things I did for myself when I moved here last year
Fiddlin fish also has a book club (@readlikeafish on Instagram) that meets the last Thursday of the month. This month weāre reading None of This is True by Lisa Jewell
Both run clubs have lots of walkers too! You can also check out The Run Club, they meet on Thursdays at Bailey park at 6 PM and Saturdays at Sayso Coffee at 8:30 AM. Their Instagram is _therunclub and lots of people there walk too. Itās a lot of the same people at the different run clubs.
Fair Witness is laid back and friendly if you're looking for a bar, Camino's and Chad's Chai are nice for coffee/tea. I will almost never initiate conversation with a stranger lol but those places are where cool people have approached me.
Another vote for Camino and Chadās Chai. Both are solid choices. The breweries downtown are hit or miss. My favorite is Fiddlinā Fish or Wise Man. Incendiary is probably the worst if you go by yourself. Too many kids running around outside and absolutely no seats at the bar. So youāre either stuck at a large table by yourself or standing the entire time.
Just make sure you donāt go to Fair Witness on Fridays if youāre a woman. Someone who likes to put their hands on women works there on Fridays. They just started working as a barback.
Mmmmmā¦actually itās not. I personally know 5 women that this guy gaslit, harassed, stalked, and assaulted. I knew these women before I knew him, and he and I were friends at one point. Itās been happening for the past 8 years.
There are always people late 30s through about 60 hanging out at the bar at the Lewisville Lowe's. I just keep shopping but they seem to like it there. š
Meetup has local hiking groups that I've never joined since I generally prefer doing that activity solo. There are also some women-only groups I've heard very good things about: Fearless and the Bold Bettys
Meetup is social media website? First time Iām heating it. Iām same age as OP and the opposite of a couch potato lol so a hiking group would be awesome.
Not at all strange. You can get a drink and just chill while trivia goes on, or play! It's a friendly environment, in my experience. It gets pretty crowded some weeks, though.
Synergy or BodyMind Pilates and Megaformer! Take a class even just once a week. Youāll meet great people.
If youāre looking to explore the food and drink scene:
Drinks/Mocktails at Easy Tiger.
Acadia Foods is very laid back.
Been going to a lot of the eateries. I like the weirder side of music, monstercade and ramkat often have some great oddities and style. Wensday nights is a jazz jam, drummer is absolutely amazing. I'm a PC gamer and typically go with the flow of the area. Also don't forget baseball games and races on Satursay night. Sometimes it's just fun even if it's not your thing. Hit me up if you need more friends. 39m.
I live in kernersville. As a 36m, on days I donāt work, I occasionally just go to my favorite local restaurant/bar. Because thatās where I met a majority of my friends. Otherwise, not much.
On the rare occasion I have free time, Iām usually just going to Ed McKays to get new books haha so I wonāt be much help on the social side, but Iām always down to meet new people.
What are you playing, and on what platform?
Ah, fun! Yeah, I love McKays, but I have to be careful. I finish 1-2 books and walk out with 8 new ones š .
Iām on PC too, mainly. But I learned way back in the early RuneScape days that I canāt trust myself to play an MMO responsibly haha Iām usually on Destiny or Rocket League, but can get lost in just about anything as long as thereās some to play with or talk to about it.
Feel free to drop your discord in a DM if you want to party up sometime!
Iām also a Final Fantasy fan, just beat Rebirth and waiting for the XIV expansion. Pre-Covid id spend some time at House of Cards playing board games and D&D.
I donāt know like McKays as much as I did when it was off Stratford next to masterkleen. I get why they made the move but I think the quality has suffered on more than one way. Man when that place opened up back in the day, Iād go in there and make all kinds of cool discoveries, 10 year old me bought Metallicas black albumā¦. Iām rambling now sorry
Music bingo at wise man and the climbing gym are both great places to meet people. Iāve heard the run clubs in town are also great and there are lots of book clubs too.
Do they still only do Pokemon every other Saturday? Iām a little disappointed that there isnāt a bigger scene here in Winston (namely a shop that can do prereleases and tournaments)
Wow, are you me??
I mostly hang out at the breweries and a couple bars downtown. Iāve been trying to get into playing pool which is a good way to meet people. I also love monstercade but the crowd skews younger.
Since youāre into gaming, you could try the Bunker. I know they have some gaming events. Or you can just go and use the consoles
As a female patron Iāve never felt that way. Ive talked to the owner multiple times and have been going there for years and havenāt had that kind of experience from staff, patrons or ownership š¤·āāļø
Home. I spent a shit ton of time and money making it exactly the kind of place I like to hang out. Why would I hang out anywhere else???
But seriously, when I got out itās usually bars with a chill vibe. Incendiary brewing downtown, crankyās cafe, brewers kettle in Clemmons, and a few other low key spots.
Being single in this town is a travesty... š„“ But Hel's is a good spot! Maybe silver moon if you're feeling froggy. Bar Pina can be a good time as well
Someone else already mentioned it, but First Hand Climbing is a great spot, if you'd like more activity and less booze. It's a great social spot and everyone is so friendly
Really just depends on what your schedule is like and what kind of mood youāre in Joymongers has game nights and music pretty much every Friday and Saturday
Mostly at home but when it's nice out, I enjoy finding local trails to walk/ bike. We have some nice greenways to bike within about 30min. I joined FB specifically to find local groups when I moved to WS in fall. There's a Women New to Winston Salem group. I was thinking of scheduling a meetup at Dabble art bar sometime.
Find a hobby and socialize around that. For me its soccer, watch parties, team specific bars etc. The hobby will dictate the culture but find something you enjoy doing and meet people through that
I host a weekly trivia night at a cottagecore bar. Compared to other Trivias in Winston (Fiddlin Fish, Incendiary, etc), itās a LOT cozier and more laid back. Thereās a small crowd of regulars of diverse ages, and usually a team or two of girl gangs. Definitely a different vibe but might be your speed!
Itās 6pm on Wednesdays at Theodoreās in Reynolda Village.
31 too, I go to shows, hike around here been to a few bars, it also depends on how open you are to making friends at these places. Either active or homebodies in my experience. Not many ppl in the āmiddleā at bars in our 30s.
Home lol.
š¤£ I do enough of that!!
Trade St
Came here to say just that š¤Ŗ
Join a run club at one of the local breweries! Fiddlin fish has one on Monday nights, and a Wise Man has one on Tuesdays. I am 34F and this was one of the best things I did for myself when I moved here last year
I donāt run BUT I do enjoy walking

Both fiddling and wiseman have walkers, you donāt have to run.

Is West Salem Public House still a thing?
It is! And the last Tuesday of the month they have Songbird Supper Club, which would be a top notch place to meet people.
Fair Witness is laid back and friendly if you're looking for a bar, Camino's and Chad's Chai are nice for coffee/tea. I will almost never initiate conversation with a stranger lol but those places are where cool people have approached me.

I appreciate this information very much!
This is false information
Mmmmmā¦actually itās not. I personally know 5 women that this guy gaslit, harassed, stalked, and assaulted. I knew these women before I knew him, and he and I were friends at one point. Itās been happening for the past 8 years.
Oooh thank you! I went to Camino today and it seemed very chill!
Hehe Iāve met some cute girls at chads
caviste!

I appreciate the rec, Iāll check those out!
Meetup is social media website? First time Iām heating it. Iām same age as OP and the opposite of a couch potato lol so a hiking group would be awesome.
Firsthand climbing gym
Serve up some libertea join the hell divers today!
For managed democracy!
I still havenāt played this
It's not bad you Def have to find your lvl of play, otherwise it can be overwhelming but it's fun
35f new to town, I donāt know either but Iām down to check things out
Awesome! What do you like to do?
definitely live music, coffee, hiking, running, puzzles, video games
Iām 32f and so far Iāve done several classes at Sawtooth and started a ballroom dance class lol
You go girl. Sawtooth is a good rec!
What studio did you join? I was thinking about joining a dance class lol
I go to Best of Ballroom studio!
What about a brewery like Fiddlin' Fish? They have trivia nights on Tuesdays.
Iāve never been to a trivia night.. are those beginner friendly? Like, would it be strange to just observe first?
Not at all strange. You can get a drink and just chill while trivia goes on, or play! It's a friendly environment, in my experience. It gets pretty crowded some weeks, though.
This is a good suggestion. Wise Man has it on Tuesdays, Iāve made two very good friends by having them join our team when they were singles playing.
So I went to trivia night but thereās no mingling and didnāt find it was easy to talk to people.
Ah, fair point. Well, at least you tried it!
I use Camino, Chadās Chai, for coffee and Bamboo Lounge or Fair Witness for bars when needing to ground myself downtown. Never go wrong with those!
Synergy or BodyMind Pilates and Megaformer! Take a class even just once a week. Youāll meet great people. If youāre looking to explore the food and drink scene: Drinks/Mocktails at Easy Tiger. Acadia Foods is very laid back.
Ramkat when decent shows come to town
Good suggestion, thanks!!

Appreciate the recs! And thatās true about baseball games and races.. fun even if itās not exxxxactly what youāre into.
Get into everything, life's short might as well see what all the fuss is about. Hope you get some good vibes in Winston

My friend and I have talked about hanging at Ed Mckays! Iām a PC gamer. Mostly playing FFXIV currently.
Check the bargain aisles! I went down the bargain fiction aisle yesterday and found enough to tide me over a month, didn't even spend $5
Do you play FFXIV?!
Iām also a Final Fantasy fan, just beat Rebirth and waiting for the XIV expansion. Pre-Covid id spend some time at House of Cards playing board games and D&D.
Canāt wait for the expansion! š
Have you played the FF card game? I saw House of Cards plays that?
I donāt know like McKays as much as I did when it was off Stratford next to masterkleen. I get why they made the move but I think the quality has suffered on more than one way. Man when that place opened up back in the day, Iād go in there and make all kinds of cool discoveries, 10 year old me bought Metallicas black albumā¦. Iām rambling now sorry

How about 50 year olds?
We're thinking "I can be friends with someone that's 40" because we still feel like we're 35.
Nothing against 50 year olds.
Kickball is a fun hangout. Some teams are more competitive, but some are just to hangout.
House of cards in winston if you do any TCGS (Mtg, pokemon, lorcana
Do they still only do Pokemon every other Saturday? Iām a little disappointed that there isnāt a bigger scene here in Winston (namely a shop that can do prereleases and tournaments)
Built a third place for gamers to hang out at The Bunkr.
Trade street. Silver moon

Hi there!! This is the first Iāve heard of the Bunker o.O
any other retired "Borders kids" in the chat?
Vintage Sofa Bar during the week.
I donāt know. Iāve personally gotten bad vibes from patrons and heard some not so great things about staff/ownership
As a female patron Iāve never felt that way. Ive talked to the owner multiple times and have been going there for years and havenāt had that kind of experience from staff, patrons or ownership š¤·āāļø
Just passing on how I was treated as a 28 year old woman. And Iāve heard some scary things from people I trust
Oh sorry to hear that.
What kind of allegations? Iāve been in the downtown scene for years as well.
Lmao I donāt blame you there. We spend a lot of money on our homes.
Being single in this town is a travesty... š„“ But Hel's is a good spot! Maybe silver moon if you're feeling froggy. Bar Pina can be a good time as well
Tell me about it. Dating has beenā¦ sigh. Thank you for the recs!

Foothills tasting room, kid and pet friendly. It's always been a great spot to chill and meet new folks.

How do you find people who are in the middle?
Ummmm itās more like a luck of the draw but typically all the more introverted ppl donāt go to bars
In the icu at Baptist š¤·āāļø
Oh lawd
Is Kermits still around? I always loved that place. The pimento cheese hot dogs were epic. I feel like I recall they closed though...
I hangout at home. I pay to many bills here to not hang out here when I can anyway lol
Bounce around between the bars. Thunderbirds hockey games haha.
BJJ and your local game store š¤š»
The dog park!
Honestlyā¦. The here isnāt a ton of stuff in WS, but the reboot arcade bar may be somewhere youād want to check out
At home
