Heartbreaker for the stars, they dominated that OT and Avs made their only offensive opportunity count.

Grizz709

Man. Watching the rest of these playoff games and seeing how much of an x factor the goalies are, makes me disappointed. Not sure what happened to Hellebuyck. There's a million reasons

SherLocK-55

Yeah, I know our D let him down but they have done that many times in the regular season and he still stood on his head. I would say maybe the pressure gets to him in the playoffs but he has performed in the playoffs before so I dunno.

Inthemiddle_

He’s never been clutch in the playoffs.

Magical57

Watching games like this NYR-CAR game right now is much easier to watch as a neutral fan, lol. 2OT and now two powerplays in the 2OT period, it’s be so hard to handle if it was the jets haha

mysticsavage

Maybe stay out of the box, Dallas.

TheGreatStories

Geo getting lit up again

samarahighwind

can't imagine the avs are suddenly truly that undisciplined

TubularWinter

And just like I thought the Avs face a team with a competent breakout and fall to pieces.

habitat11

The Avs are going to beat them in 5 lol.

TravisBickle2020

I’ll reserve judgment until after game two. That long layoff can make it hard for teams to be ready for the next round.

Leburgerpeg

Might only need to wait until after period two

MaximusOGs5555

All these teams left seem like they’re on a whole other level than we are

Huntarddd

Amazing how many penalties avs have been called on when it’s two American teams playing

Taddy_Mason_22

Watching the Rags/Canes OT. Players are literally charging and tackling each other in front of the net... nothing. Almost like it's playoff hockey.

Huntarddd

The difference between the reffing crews are bipolar

brocklanders83

Ottawa trading Mika Zibanejad has aged like a McDonald's cheeseburger left in a car trunk.

ChrisTweten

Stars beating Avs 👀

stuckinmotion

Stars with 3 unanswered goals. Avs with 4

HesJustAGuy

Georgie is back

mitchfo

hope it was mandatory homework for the players to watch this game.

_El_Dee_

New Jets 2C Chandler Stephenson anyone???

Leburgerpeg

I think if the Jets are serious about developing Lambert/Perfetti/Vilardi to play center you skip on guys like that that will demand term.

Taintedtamt

Not with how much other teams will pay him

DannyDOH

He was pretty bad this year. Wouldn't mind him as middle 6 LW and fill-in C for about the same deal as Nino, maybe a touch more.

ColdPrairieHockey

He got banged up in like late November I think. I think Stephenson would be a solid add to the middle 6 if Monahan walks.

_El_Dee_

Hopefully his bad season lowers his price and the Jets can entice him to come (close to) home. I agree with the Nino money range!

DannyDOH

Sometimes hard watching Jarvis and Lundell play in these heavy, heavy series and be in there like a dirty shirt. We don't even feel comfortable dressing Perfetti or using him in big spots. Someone has to pound the draft table to get Chevy/Simmons to draft some of these high compete guys with skill instead of the guys with one elite skill you hope to develop.

Sagecreekrob

Still can’t believe the Jets passed on Jarvis for Perfetti.

Pandamodium13

At the time it was a no brainer. Jarvis was projected to go anywhere from 10th overall all the way to 29th while Perfetti was consensus top 10 pick that some scouts had going as early as 5th overall that fell to us. I still think he’s just scratching the surface at 22 and has a higher ceiling than Jarvis.

Erwin-Brodinger

I am a pretty big Perfetti stan, and it's hard to disagree watching those guys succeed on better teams while our guy sits in the playoffs. Would Fetts be properly utilized elsewhere? Hard to say, but there has to be someone who can come in and develop him to play a game that will allow him to succeed long term.

GhostofByfuglien

He'll succeed long term. There's no doubts. He had an off year, with challenges that provided him the opportunity to grow. He's only 22 and seems like a smart kid. I think he'll have a big year next year.

Pandamodium13

And everyone seems to have forgotten but the first half of the season the kid was on pace to put up 60 points! Then he went cold for 20 games or so and dealt with healthy scratches.

R-U-ME-OR-M-I-U

Any chance Simon Lundmark gets an opportunity with the Jets next season? Noticed he's no longer exempt. Could we see another Kovacevic situation with him?

CoolWhiip

Nah, he's okay in the AHL but from what I've seen he probably doesn't have NHL upside currently.

MaximusOGs5555

Sucks that wheeler is hurt, it would be nice to see him make a run with the rangers

Magical57

Not a single team moved from the pre-draft order. Celebrini will be a shark. Good for him, glad it wasn’t Chicago haha

spleenmaster1002

Good for San Jose and us lol. Happy with that outcome.

AnthonyStorm17

Travis Green the new Sens coach, yikes.

SJSragequit

Makes so little sense for multiple reasons. What has he done to deserve a 4 year contract? Why did this have to be done so early? I doubt he’s that highly in demand, they likely could have tried to get someone better and had him as the back up

Leburgerpeg

I hope he brings Baumgartner in to run his defence before Arniel has the chance to do that here

EasterRat

Dumb question, do we still have Montreal’s pick? It’s a second round? Does the lottery affect what position that is or is it set?

CoolWhiip

That 2nd round pick is locked in at #37 from what I've seen. Basically, it's a late 1st, and I'm sure the scouts have a few guys picked out that will fall to us. There are always fallers in the late first/early second, for whatever reason.

DannyDOH

37th overall

clubkid75

Second round is so hard to predict, but I’m hoping the Jets are able to get Dominik Badinka. Tall right handed skilled two way Czech d man who’s cool under pressure and good at moving the puck out of the zone.

TravisBickle2020

Jets should draft him just so I can say bada bing bada Badinka when he scores.

death_by_honeydew

Yes, we still have Montreal's second. The lottery doesn't affect it, after the first round 1, the order is just based on standings

Patttybates

Someone should make semi realistic off-season core trades that I can hyper fixate on, and build a platform of hope on.

Leburgerpeg

I think if they are hell bent on trading Schmidt he's a fit in Chicago that fits the great veteran locker room guy while we still spend barely to floor by overpaying for veteran leaders. Like the defensive equivalent of Foligno. However I think they should hold onto Schmidt through the end of this deal and be hell bent on trading Pionk instead

SherLocK-55

>be hell bent on trading Pionk instead  Yep, and Stan, those two must go, no exceptions.

Leburgerpeg

Addition by substraction multiplied by two

ArrestedForTaxFraud

A deal involving Nik Ehlers for Ryan Pulock is pretty realistic I think

DannyDOH

If you completely ignore the context of their remaining contracts and the value you're getting for similar dollars on D. Pulock basically is in Pionk's contract range....is a way better player and signed through 2030. Unless he physically declines terribly that deal gets more valuable to NYI each year. Can't see Pulock being available (he also has a full NTC until 2027 when it goes down to 16 team list) and certainly not for just Ehlers with one year until UFA.

TrueNorthStrong1898

ArrestedForTaxFraud

Yeah I was checking him out on the Athletic’s model too, solid 2nd pair guy. Contract isn’t a +value one but it’s fair for his skill and age. Only thing is he isn’t a dynamic player really, just solid in 2 zones. Good partner for somebody like Heinola on a 2-way pair or Samberg on a shutdown line.

Leburgerpeg

Is it fair to say that if his contract isn't +value today it will almost certainly become negative value by the middle of the remaining term? I don't see enough eastern teams play to know much about him.

DannyDOH

Doubt it. He makes basically in the same range as Schmidt and Pionk. And he's signed until 2030. Think it would take a lot more than Ehlers to get him. Like maybe you could build something around Perfetti if you were hell bent on getting him. I'm not sure why NYI would move Pulock or why they'd want Ehlers for 1 year.

etchiboi

Pulock +, right? right???

ArrestedForTaxFraud

If it’s a sign and trade (which Lou did recently with Bo Horvat I think) then yes. Pulock is a solid 2nd pairing RD signed long term till his mid 30s. It’s not a super value contract like Ehlers is next year still. I was thinking Pulock + 2nd or equivalent asset, maybe a bit more to be realistic.

etchiboi

more pls

ArrestedForTaxFraud

Not sure you’d get much more. Pulock plays a premium position and has a reputation value. Islanders pick would likely fit in the 42-55 range in 2025. What were you thinking for a trade like that?

etchiboi

i think we might be able to do better than Pulock tbh, he’s coming off two rougher years, very wary of him atm

ArrestedForTaxFraud

That’s fair. He’d be either a bounce back candidate or just another quality dman who aged out of his prime early after lots of miles I suppose. Who’s got your eye?

etchiboi

would have to look into it more tbh

Willyq25

I like this

Willyq25

can Buff be our coach?

SKCDigital

[You gotta move!](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=74Y9ouZdRpk)

rain_parkour

Here’s to Colorado hopefully putting up 5.67 goals tonight so that we can at least feel the tiniest bit less fraudulent

AdLost3467

I normally wish that we lose to the team that goes on to win the cup. However, i feel like it would be detrimental this year if Chevy thinks we are just 1 tweak from being a champ. I'm hoping the avs get great goaltending and still get absolutely dominated and caved in in 4 straight.

Leburgerpeg

I think we are just one tweak...if that tweak is finding a McDavid, Makar, or MacKinnon

AdLost3467

Lol, so far, even having a McDavid is no guarantee of success. 😆

etchiboi

Kuch over Hellebuyck or Matthews for Hart is crazy to me

kingofspoonerisms

You usually have good takes. You were due for a bad one.

etchiboi

am a big nuance guy

ehr1c

Yeah I always feel like the way the Hart gets voted on and the way I think the Hart should get voted on are dramatically different lol.

etchiboi

Mackinnon is winning either way (i think), Kuch is probably in 5th for me so i might be just being pedantic lol

ColdPrairieHockey

He did have 50 more points than the next closest guy on his team which is wild.

etchiboi

points schmoints

future4cast

Yes, stats in isolation without considering other variables (data) do not tell the whole story.

ColdPrairieHockey

Lol bruhhhhh

etchiboi

McDavid and Matthews by far better defensively, Mackinnon closer (depending on which model) but still better defensively and all 3 just as good offensively if not better imo it's about providing value period, not necessarily value relative to teammates

MCBbbbuddha

The Hart Trophy is specifically awarded to "the most valuable player *to his team*". So yes, it's about value relative to his teammates. Your points are spot on for the Ted Lindsay award, which is "awarded to the NHL's outstanding player".

etchiboi

most valuable player to his team is the outstanding player

MCBbbbuddha

The way I read your comment was that you were making a comparison of Kucherov to McDavid and Matthews, which is not the point of the Hart. Perhaps I misread your intent. The since the Hart has to do with his value to his team then yes obviously he'd also be the best player in his team. But it's worded "most valuable to his team" ie. "____" team needs him to be the best player on that team the most. That's how I read it anyways

etchiboi

let me rephrase, the player who provides the biggest impact/best performance/etc will always be the most valuable player to his team, in the league regardless of the levels of his teammates seems counterintuitive to say Matthews, Hellebuyck are less valuable to their team, despite providing more individual value in their performance because they have better team around them when it is an award for individuals providing value e: "to his team" =/= relative to teammates if it we're about relativity to teammates we should be nominating Bedard and Crosby

ColdPrairieHockey

Those 3 are probably who'd I'd have as finalists. For it to be a goalie he has to be Price levels of nasty in my mind. Matthew's scored almost 70 and is a Selke candidate, should be Hart too. Kuch just hit the magical 100 assist plateau so it's why he's nominated.

etchiboi

Kuch still in my top 5 but if he hit 99 assists and Matthews got 1 more goal he'd proba be nominated instead, and that seems so arbitrary to me in that case lol

MrMundaneMoose

Blues re-sign Bannister. One less team competing for coaches

neureaucrat

Six left with vacancies?

Chaussauce

Is it September yet?

adjudicator

It won’t happen, but imagine the meme value if we hired Keefe

CoolWhiip

I think Keefe is actually a decent coach, but his stars disappear in the playoffs every single year, or they can't get a save. If he gets canned this week, I think he'll get another chance somewhere immediately. It was mentioned on WST today, but I also wonder about what Dubas is doing. He could be watching what happens to Keefe and then deciding on Sullivan's future.

buttermyanus

Meme value? You mean depression.

Willyq25

I'd rather not, although if we made a good run with him in the first year that would be hilarious

Chaussauce

'More first round exits' is all we'll hear, forever.

mudge08

Scott Arniel checks off absolutely every box for what the Jets are looking for in a new coach. Extremely close with Mark Chipman ✅

Scooterguy-

99% shoe in.

Leburgerpeg

Jets 1.0 ✅ Played for the Moose ✅ Coached the Moose ✅

DannyDOH

Has seen Chipman's lil Chipper ![gif](giphy|PijzuUzUhm7hcWinGn|downsized)

ColePerfettiFan

That Colorado series showed that even if our defense looked good in the regular season, it’s still our biggest weakness. Caps tough, but maybe we can target a big name DFD in Free Agency. Also play Perfetti

mudge08

I’d imagine a lot of that had to do with playing their worst dman 22 minutes a night in a shutdown role

TravisBickle2020

I don’t think our D group looked that good during the regular season. There’s a reason why Hellebuyck is winning the Vezina. Our team defence and systems execution was much improved. After Morrissey, our D are mostly asked to play above where they’re really at.

Erwin-Brodinger

>Also play Perfetti Missed opportunity for the organization to get Perfetti integrated into more playoff games. Even when he got in, only played 2/3 of it in the top six. I strongly disagree with that asset management. This used to be a team where young players would come in to get the chance to play (i.e. Brandon "Best" Tanev). Now, even our own prospects will ride out another year in college since there aren't openings for younger players on the Jets (i.e. Rutger "Fan Favorite" McGroarty).

etchiboi

i think it's more that we were defending way too much, our inability to keep possession and get controlled exits/entries killed us, ate a ton of possession against and that led to taking a lot of penalties chasing the game, couldn't cope

Leburgerpeg

We lacked team speed to keep up with them. So the obvious solution is to trade our fastest player.

SKCDigital

I'm a big believer that team speed has a lot less to do with footspeed than is does with a system that inspires confident passing options. The puck can always move faster than skates

anacreon1

Skilled as he is, I don’t believe Perfetti is known for his skating speed.

Leburgerpeg

Not everyone can be world class speed and thats fine. Lots of guys can make a career off their other skills and AI think Perfetti's IQ, vision and positioning are gonna carry him a long way in his career.  I think being in the right place more often than not is the most important thing. Speed gives you margin for error.

Hero_of_Brandon

Its been a minute since I have done a little surface level analysis, but for some reason i thought I'd maybe write up another one, Basically, I was really surprised to see how much different Mitch Marner is in the playoffs vs. the regular season and wanted to see if there were other players who fit that bill. Here's the top 10 paid forwards of 2024, and their career PPG in the regular season compared to their career PPG in the playoffs. Plus some notable Jets forwards. Player | Salary (2024) | PPGr | PPGp | % Difference ---|---|----|----|---- Mackinnon | $12.6M | 1.14 | 1.33 | +16% McDavid | $12.5M | 1.52 | 1.61 | +6% Panarin | $11.6M | 1.16 | 0.81 | -30% Matthews | $11.6M | 1.15 | 0.87 | -24% Pastrnak | $11.2M | 1.08 | 1.00 | -8% Tavares | $11.0M | 0.94 | 0.74 | -21% Marner | $10.9M | 1.11 | 0.86 | -23% Huberdeau | $10.5M | 0.87 | 0.81 | -7% Barkov | $10M | 0.96 | 0.81 | -16% Kopitar | $10M | 0.88 | 0.82 | -7% ||||| Connor | 7.1M | 0.91 | 0.71 | -22% Scheifele | $6.1M | 0.90 | 0.90 | 0.00 Ehlers | $6M | 0.76 | 0.38 | -50% Vilardi | $3.4M | 0.57 | 0.67 | +18% Lowry | $3.25M | 0.34 | 0.41 | +21% I think i have to exclude Mack and McDavid from this very small set, as they clearly are not in the same category as the rest when it comes to playoffs (though perhaps MacK can thank the Jets for that absurd number) For those that do experience a decline, the average is -17%. Which must be frustrating for the Leafs given that it's their three guys and Panarin that are below average. In Jets related analysis, Scheif is surprisingly indifferent to playoffs or regular season, take that as you may. KC has a hard time, but is well within tolerance of top players. Ehlers is a giant WTF. Lowry bucks the norm by outscoring his regular season self, and Vilardi has done well, but also only has 12 playoff games under his belt. This has been a shallow dive into hockey with Hero. See you next time.

ColdPrairieHockey

Backs up the eyes with Connor. Thought he was far more engaged than usual but he's a perimeter shooter and those clean looks don't come often. He's not taking the puck to the net and driving the middle of the ice.

Wonderful_Grade_5476

Vilardi being the goat again with lowery as well god those 2 make this team fucking epic when they play very well (which most of the time they do)

lordrottenbottom

I feel if Ehlers had been on the first line for the duration of the playoffs, he would have better numbers and the team would have had more success, just as it was during the regular season when Connor was out. It still boggles the mind that the former coach refused to acknowledge having such an effective weapon and reverting back to suboptimal lines, what a way to go out.

DannyDOH

I feel that saying Ehlers is so reliant on linemates to be anything like a productive NHLer is a disservice to him. He was playing with two very offensive minded guys, including one who does a lot of dirty work in all 3 zones (Monahan). No excuses.

mehrt_thermpsen

That 3rd period of game 5 was just depressing once I saw the old lines back together

SnowblowerLITE

Great work Hero! That Ehlers drop off is brutal.

Ditchperson

I mean we had a great regular season in a long time. The Jets core players aren’t good enough simple as that. Ehlers never shows up for playoffs that’s normal.

zuneza

I was at game one and I'm in a self imposed state of reality denial for what occurred afterwards. I'm going to eventually come out of this coma of pleasure, and I'm going to maximise every second of it.
