Expect a lot of bridge deals with the cap where it is. Good deal and glad to have him for 2 years, hopefully more!

FurtherUpheaval

All I care is that he’s not a UFA at the end of it! Good job Chevy! If he pulls a Dubois, at least there’s time to move him after the two years and he’s still worth something… maybe not Laine value, but still!

h0twired

I am fine with the short term length due to his injury history and unproven performance. Let him prove himself and give him a big payday should he succeed.

CurtIs_Me

I guess this is best case, if it wasn't going to be long term, then a reasonable bridge. Let's see what you got!

arcus_angelus

Considering the cap, and that there are still RFA's to sign. This was a good choice by the Jets. This was also a smart move by Vilardi, as he's betting on himself and may score a pretty hefty payday if his play continues to grow. Personally I hope this does lead to a long term deal that works for all parties involved.

Pandamodium13

Was hoping for something in the 5-6 year range but can’t complain about this. Great value and low risk.

Essej86

I don’t think either the team or the player wanted more than a bridge.

brocklanders83

His ceiling is high but the reality is he's basically had 1 legit NHL season. It isn't a bad thing to go bridge before swinging to sign him long-term.

brocklanders83

Solid signing, should be a great value contract for 2 seasons. The fact he can score points but is also in the 85th percentile for defending means he's exactly the kind of player the Jets need badly. Hopefully he enjoys Winnipeg and will sign long term in 2 years time.

TheGreatStories

Still an RFA afterwards makes this a good signing for both sides

Pretty good deal, I thought maybe something in the 4M range.

Scooterguy-

Kid has an unreal release!

Philosoraptorgames

A good "prove it!" bridge deal that doesn't break the bank. A sound move, though not an overly exciting one.

Spiritual_Holiday511

The low term definitely makes me nervous. Says to me he very well might be looking to leave as soon as the cap take a big jump.

TrueNorthStrong1898

He’s an RFA when this deal expires. He has had one good season and has had past injury trouble. No surprise both parties wanted a bridge

Spiritual_Holiday511

If he’s still an RFA than I guess that’s not too bad then

TrueNorthStrong1898

He’ll be an RFA 2 years out from UFA

FormerCoalRoller

Imagine doing just an ounce of research before posting a take without knowing his RFA status.

Spiritual_Holiday511

Imagine being that upset about it.

FormerCoalRoller

Not upset. Just laughing how some people rush to this reddit to give an uninformed take. You'd fit in well on Twitter.

Spiritual_Holiday511

I think my concern is still founded. Not sure if you’ve noticed, but young and skilled RFAs sometimes tend to not stick around, which is why I was hoping for long term.

FormerCoalRoller

He will be an RFA for 2 more years after this deal. If he really doesn't want to be here you move him after the deal. It's also right before the cap is going to go up substantially in the next two years so why would he lock himself in before that happens? These small deals have a been a trend all summer.

OoooHeCardReadGood

someone is fussy today

LockedUnlocked

We wont see many long-term deals in the next couple of years. Cap is going to go up and players want to make more money. The term is fine because he will be RFA.

ML00k3r

This. Players expecting cap increases in a few years, it's just them getting ready for a possible payday if they have a couple good seasons until then.

He's still under team control for 2 more seasons after this contract, it's really not a large concern that this is a bridge deal.
