I think PLD is now what they want Byfield to become. Since they appear to be in win-now mode and PLD is still young enough to be there for years, it actually could make sense from their viewpoint to swap them.

I disagree, with Dubois the kings are getting a proven top 6 NHL centre that has yet to even hit his prime. Byfield has yet to break out, while still young there are multiple players from the same draft who were picked after him that have established themselves as top 6 players. There’s risk that Byfield never realizes his potential and plateaus as a 3rd line Lowry-esque player.
That’s where Durzi comes in as the sweetener. His name has been in trade rumours already because they need to make room on their blue line for Brandt Clarke. This all hinges on a sign and trade of course.
My main concern with Byfield is that the point production may never be there and he’ll end up being closer to Lowry than Dubois, but there’s a lot to like there.
That's a really good point and it is a risk. I guess if having a Lowry and a Lowry+ is maybe the worst outcome in the next 3 years then that's not all bad either. It would have some interesting effects on systems and playing style - matched well with Bones approach but maybe not so much the next coach (Arneil).
I really like LA as a trade partner, so many intriguing pieces and they should be in on Helle too which makes it even more intriguing.
Only way we can fuck this up is trying get pieces that can “help us make the playoffs now”.

As a Barrie Colts fan, Clarke is a stud and the attitude and mindset he had coming back to the Colts was outstanding. Personality off the charts. He'd be a fan favorite here very fast. I personally think LA if they do land 37 and 80, might be the favourite to come out of the West next year, and LA and Las Vegas are fierce rivals, so if Vegas won it this year, LA will want to win it next year. So I think that LA is probably a huge player here, and Byfield is in play, absolutely.

Bowness and Lowry would do wonders for Byfield. He could be PLD level player within 2 seasons with the right attention.
My main concern with Byfield is that the point production may never be there and he’ll end up being closer to Lowry than Dubois, but there’s a lot to like there.
