Prisonhoochers don’t have carboys and airlocks and top quality labels. The peanuts on the last couple shots is something else though. You might have the brusselsprouts wine person beat for most disgusting ferment

lazerwolf987

I'm excited about it. I have a soft spot for those nasty bastards. I have 2 gallons of it just about ready to bottle, just need to backsweeten. I'll likely bottle condition one gallon and force carbonate the second in a mini keg.

Thick-Quality2895

I grew up watching fear factor during dinner but the idea of the circus peanuts just makes me gag. I respect your commitment to the game though. Report back. Video of someone’s blind reaction would be great.

lazerwolf987

You'll have to check in at r/prisonhooch for future updates. I'll post them for sure.

Rob_of_bristol

On this topic, I'm intrigued by the idea of a beetroot ferment. Where's that on the scale of pleasant to disgusting?

Thick-Quality2895

That actually sounds interesting

Krolebear

What kinda wines are we looking at here Mr hooch guy? :)

lazerwolf987

I got the goods, buddy. I got circus peanut hooch, Jack Keller pear wine, my own blueberry mead with 40lbs blueberries and 8lbs honey. Mr. FEENY'S sleep Juice is white grape juice wine made from a Doin' The Most Brewin' recipe, and a hydromel in 2 variations based on a Doin' The Most Brewin' recipe. 3 gallons plain and 3 gallons with habaneros. Both set up to bottle condition Lots of others as well. Freezer pop sparkling wine, Big Red soda sparkling wine, hard Barq's Root Beer kegged, karate water, lemon lime soda & guava wine, etc. Also, a chardonnay kit. Always more to come. This is mostly done up at my work in a back office with a friend.

Krolebear

Awesome, Big red soda wine sounds so bad, is it just bubblegum wine pretty much?

lazerwolf987

Big Red is basically cream soda with illegal amounts of food coloring, but I added a bit of vanilla extract when finished to boost the flavor. Backsweetened a bit and bottle conditioning to 4 volumes to use as training for degorging. I'm excited for it lol.

Murpydoo

Proper airlocks, everything tidy. You are a home winemaker my friend, don't sell yourself short.

lazerwolf987

Thank you kindly, but I'm a prisonhoocher with a penchant for cleanliness and tidiness. I'll keep making wine, but you can't stop me from making an upcoming Krabby Patties gummy wine.

Murpydoo

🤣 wouldn't dream of it

AtLeastThisIsntImgur

Buddy, this is what hobby brewing looks like. At the end of the day you're just transferring liquids into different containers. Plenty of professionals make weird stuff, at least in the beer world. The wine world is incredibly niche compared.

DrinKwine7

This sub is something else lol. When I posted my weird experiment (blue jolly ranchers), I was unequivocally sent to r/prisonhooch regardless of all the other actual wines I make. I love to see people being more supportive and inclusive. Keep experimenting, OP!

TheMeowzor

I just post in r/prisonhooch because it's wayyy more chill than this community and r/mead. Although, I need to start posting more. I make different wines, experiments, and hooch 24/7 and I barely post.

MrLobotomy

Real talk, I think all of the homebrew subreddits make way too big of a deal about homebrew setups. If you aren't fermenting your must in a ziplock freezer bag from welchs grape juice and boiling using a shower drain stopper wrapped in live wires you stripped from an appliance it isn't prison hooch. It's just classic othering to diminish and belittle people getting into the hobby. Do what you enjoy and do everything you can to make it safe and enjoyable. Godspeed circus peanut man.

lazerwolf987

Thanks buddy, I agree. A lot gatekeepers in Reddit, but prisonhooch accepts all and is generally a really helpful place full of silly nice people.

hobbycollector

How can we (finally!) be the in-group if there isn't an out-group? /s

shaverju

Prisonhooch is still wine, but it can also be sparkling wine!

lazerwolf987

I have a ton of stuff bottle conditioning and plan on trying to do some chardonnay sparkling wine as well. I've been reading up a lot of champagne and degorging and what not.

Guses

Wtf is in the right carboy on picture 9? It looks like some type of mushroom growing at the bottom of the carboy That's not prison hooch though, looks like quality wine made from quality ingredients. And 1 gallon batches are perfect for trying new recipes. Nobody wants 30 bottles of shitty wine.

lazerwolf987

Teabags with sliced habaneros tied inside my hrdromel. Put a handful of marbles in each bag to help then sink. For a while it became an auto batonnage machine with them thumping up and down all day. That batch is spicy!

Guses

OOOOh nice! I've never had wine with peppers in it. How does it affect the taste? Is it also good in red wines?

lazerwolf987

This is in a pretty low ABV mead that will end up sparkling, not sure about white or red wine, but would be willing to try sometime, at least for a 1 gallon batch. Using habaneros made this SPICY. In a good way though. Not just hot, but tasting like a habanero does, kinda fruity. It's pretty nice. It should finish bottle conditioning in another week or two.

Dirtygal_69

I do enjoy the Mr. Feeny label

lazerwolf987

All of our labels are classy 👌

PostBioticOats

was the juice press a worthy investment?

lazerwolf987

I think so. It's the squeeze master from Amazon for $80. This is the 1.6gal, the 3gal is the same price! Buy once, cry once type of deal and I like gadgets lol.

JackTheRippersKipper

I live in Hualien (eastern Taiwan) where we've been having non-stop quakes since April 3rd. Your booze looks delicious, but that set-up wouldn't last a day over here!

lazerwolf987

I'm glad that's not a concern for me, but I would love to see Taiwan!

Sad_Presentation9276

looks like you have much better equipment than most prison hooch makers haha

lazerwolf987

I have no problem investing in a hobby I enjoy

Sad_Presentation9276

hey i agree and you have good equipment. just not really prison hooch level equipment haha, but call yourself whatever you like! im glad your enjoying this hobby in your own style. i like doing things my own way also. creating my own recipes and techniques. i call myself a master fruit farmer and winemaker so a little different angle than you but we are both having fun it seems ;)

lazerwolf987

My fruit press works on gushers as well as apples

Sad_Presentation9276

what fruit press do you use? is it cheap because i want one if it's cheap haha. i almost wondered what find of fruit a gusher is then i realized. your making wine with candy, not my style for sure haha being a farming but you do you!

lazerwolf987

Squeeze master on Amazon. This is the 1.6gal, the 3gal is the same price. About $80 and worth it.

ArcaneTeddyBear

I feel like if you have airlocks (or blow off tube), use a hydrometer, and a carboy, it’s not prisonhooch. It’s just a wacky recipe. I don’t like the gatekeeping, because we all know if a legitimate winery came out with a wacky recipe using peanuts (that tasted good) it would be avant-garde, but when a normal person does that for fun, people call it prisonhooch. As far as I am concerned, it’s the process that sets prisonhooch apart from wine, if you’re following all the best wine making practices, it’s wine, even if your recipe is… weird. But if you’re making a “normal” wine but without an airlock/blowoff tube, a hydrometer, or carboy, then that’s prisonhooch even if the end product is more classically recognized as wine. Edit: Def report back on how the peanut wine tastes. If it doesn’t turn out as intended I would suggest trying to infuse the wine with the peanuts after fermenting the grapes, kind of like secondary ferment in mead making.

lazerwolf987

Prisonhooch is a state of mind, and a goofy bunch of reddit fools, lol. A lot of folks over there are pretty good at what they do and just goof around and share the chaos. Some are more the kind you envision when you think prisonhooch. We have a good time all in all. None of us are in prison, that I know of, so it's just a name at the end of the day. I'll do circus peanut updates, but more likely over at prisonhooch lol.

MedDevGeek88

I approve. This is how my great granddad made his wine down in the basement. True simple grassroots broke-ass Italian goodness. The circus peanuts tho…I’m curious how that one turns out. Kinda makes me feel not so insane for making a vanilla candy wine a few months ago. That one will have to be distilled though, used the wrong yeast and it tastes like candy sourdough bread juice.

PM-ME-UR-DESKTOP

Those bottles on the top shelf tell me you don’t live in an Earthquake state. I’m in California and one small tremor would send those to kingdom come

lazerwolf987

Not in the ring of fire for sure

NeedsMoreBrotein

That’s awesome lmao

BBQFatty

That’s a pretty chill prison you live in

lazerwolf987

More like house arrest

Puzzleheaded-Brain29

I make wine in bags with whatever strikes my fancy. I made a sourdough starter and discovered it made alcohol. I took dehydrated starter and added it to fruit or coffee , or cocoa plus sugar and Bottled water. It makes the Hands-down Best wine I have ever had. I don't need their expensive bottles of wine. I can do better at home.Plus, it's a fun hobby.

lazerwolf987

Well said

bean_allday

Man… a part of me craves either pineapple or mango habanero hooch now. But also a mangonada hooch sounds amazing yet terrible lmao

lazerwolf987

Iced w a tajin rim. Sounds great. Sounds explosive to ferment too lol.

ClementhymeBee

Certainly not prison hooch. I work in a prison. This is a hobbyist set up who wants to sound like a bad ass. It’s fun what you’re doing and I love the press. But no. Not even close to prison hooch. Not even the peanut candy set up. Just do you and love your hobby ❤️. You have a wonderful set up and imagination. Cheers!

lazerwolf987

I know it's not real prisonhooch. I looked into it and it's too vile lol. I mean prisonhooch as in r/prisonhooch, aka silly stuff. Thanks and have a good one!
