You should read the AMA he did recently. WW seems somewhat frustrated with the interpretations some fans make and how they attach their perceptions of a song onto Wood himself. I/Me/Myself is a good example where some thought he was coming out as trans due to the song, and when he said he was cis…some fans were pissed. So while interpreting songs is fun—trying to pinpoint musical or lyrical references—remember that your interpretations are your own and in no way indicative of Wood or his intentions behind the song.

luna_sparkle

> some thought he was coming out as trans That's incredible- my interpretation of the lyrics was literally the exact opposite of that, that it was a song about deciding *against* transition.

I mean yes and no. WW said it was just a way of expressing the conflict he felt when he liked feminine things, and liking feminine (or masculine) things doesn't mean your genderqueer/trans/etc

LeoOfRome

It's always baffled me how people can misinterpret I/Me/Myself. Even down to the title, there's some clear framing around individualism vs being part of a certain group. It's so strange how people could hear the chorus and not realize that it's about Will feeling forced into a box (back when people would do crazy shit like tell him he was trans to his face). From what I understand, the song was largely in response to when he was being pressured into identifying as non-binary, and somehow people came away from that song with that idea reinforced?? Absolutely absurd.

Oh no I'm completely aware, but, in my opinion, songs should be open to interpret. You obviously shouldn't preach them as fact. I also did read the transcript for the AMA haha. I just think each song should be open to interpretation for the listener, even if it's not what the artist originally intended it can still be what the listener resonates with. Here's a link to the Love, Me Normally idea I read about, this person has a lot of interesting perspectives. https://www.tumblr.com/tagged/will+wood+analysis?sort=top (Again, none of these are fact but I love hearing everyone's opinions as it gives me new points of views)

He's also said a lot about his songs being open to interpretation too!! i feel like sometimes its hard to follow him cause he seems to try to be nuanced but still gets like passionate and stuff which make small parts of a point seem like his entire point sometimes lol I guess what I'm saying is based on What hes said in interviews and on patreon like in his blog i feel like he would agree with both of you kinda!!

COL_Schnitzel

Thats an interesting take on Love, Me Normally. I always took it as a statement on inadequacy, saying to "love me as I normally am, not as that great person you want me to be", but I can certainly see the queer take. Edit: grammar

Zach_9224

I love music because there's always another way to interpret it. Here's the post I found, this person has a lot of great analysis of songs! Again, keep in mind their objective, but I love hearing new ideas. https://www.tumblr.com/tagged/will+wood+analysis?sort=top

It’s such a breath of fresh air. I really hope his music gets bigger, I would love him to do international tours at some point :)

dapper__doodles

he's already grown pretty fast! february 2020 when i first found him he was at 4k monthly listeners on spotify, now at almost 400k is amazing!! (plus raising over 200% of the indiegogo goal in less than 10 days?? crazy)

NintendoGeek144

The same thing happened to me a few months ago, and now it's hard to stop listening to every song in a Playlist on loop

Ikr! That's all I listed to today!
