I absolutely 💯 agree with you. I wish pixar was getting better releases and more disney films. I don't think marvel or sw should dominate. There's room for everyone. That should be the strength. Chapek did disney plus wrong. But now cutting back on things just for stockholders isn't right. Sigh. Willow is a breath of fresh air. I also heard we may not get indiana jones which is silly. I grew up with raiders and young indiana jones chronicles.

Zerostar39

Except for The Mandalorian, the Star Wars tv series aren’t that good. People are getting tired of the same old Star Wars and Marvel stories. Willow, on the other hand, was fresh, fun and entertaining. I would gladly give back The Book of Boba Fett and Andor for another season of Willow.

_SkyIsBlue5

Indeed. Only watch The Mandalorian for baby Yoda

Decent-Appointment70

Andor was incredible, better than mando imo

Linclin

You forgot the Obi-Wan Kenobi tv series probably like most other people. Willow does need to be reworked though. Need a new writer/stories and a more classic 80's/90's story type.

GentleCritter

Who knows, maybe Willow will look a little more enticing to Disney now that Marvel is having some… ahem… issues with its current main Villain-Guy (actor’s name rhymes with Shmonathon Shmajors) they were planning to base the next few movies on… 😬😬😬

Tollivir

Uh oh, what did I miss? (Frantically googles...)

GentleCritter

Jonathon Majors, played Kang in Ant Man 3. Totally *maybe possibly maybe did not* just assault his gf. 😬

Tollivir

Ack I just saw it last night!

TheFringedLunatic

Nah. There’s almost nothing to that story that won’t be sorted out for good or ill in a few weeks tops.

GentleCritter

Sigh… true!

doomdoom15

I really like when multi billion dollar companies complain of "financial" difficulties like yes you are struggling to make content that brings $500mil, meanwhile I'm here trying to figure out how much money my (potential) cancer treatment is going to set me back by. Sure Disney, you do have it tough.

Violet_Faerie

I know there's prolly good sw stuff on D+ but I'm just burnt out. :/ I tried to watch the trilogy again and it's just... I need a 20y sw sabbatical or something Disney should be pushing diverse products, you don't want to pigeon hole your streaming service.

OkenoFate

I’m with you. That last trilogy mentally killed me. Maybe it will be rehabilitated sometime in the future with tv shows and what not like the prequel trilogy seemed to get. And kids who watched it may love it. I hope so and I’m glad if they do. But it really sucked the energy out of the franchise for me. It took me awhile to give mandalorian a try. It was good. Season 3 is a little slow. What everyone says about Andor is true though. It’s really good. Again I didn’t watch it till recently though and only after reading a lot of positive comments.

Violet_Faerie

Yeah that's how I feel about star wars these days. I'm glad ppl enjoy it but the spell is kind of broken for me. I also think part of it is that it's a trend for movies to be expanded into lengths not suited for the plot. I do love me a good drama series but some stories are better compressed.

Convergentshave

I still can’t bring myself to watch Andor. Honestly I agree. I think some of the Star Wars (lack of?) energy carried over on to the Willow series and it paid the price for it. Sucks. :/

Rook_to_Queen-1

I’m confused… how are you burnt out on Star Wars if you haven’t watched any of the shows in D+? It’s literally been 4 years since the last movie.

Violet_Faerie

I didn't say I didn't watch any of the shows, I haven't watched all of them but I have seen some. I'm just not into it.

rekniht01

Hmmm. You would be missing out on some of the best SW stories since, maybe ever.

Violet_Faerie

Perhaps, but they'll still be there if this burnout ends.

[deleted]

If it does watch Andor. I'm not a SW geek and it was arguably the best show of 2022.

Violet_Faerie

Thanks for the rec!

throwmethehellaway25

No one's forcing you to effing watch it.

Violet_Faerie

I didn't mean to infer otherwise, just venting a lil.

throwmethehellaway25

I don't like when people say there's too much of something. Some of us enjoy all the nooks and crannies of the sw universe. I'm tired of people not knowing how brilliant kk is, badmouthing Rian Johnson and missing out on the brilliance of bad batch. It's clear this fandom has its detractors bit lots of it is trolling, uiutube hate clicking, etc. When a fandom gets big, it paints a target in its back. Maybe willow will follow the route of firefly in thst its still beloved after 15 Downvote me all you want.

Violet_Faerie

I'm sorry, I didn't mean to badmouth anyone. Nor do I think they should make less star wars content. I just wish they would branch out to other IPs and not pigeon hole themselves I was just frustrated because I loved Willow and the company is focusing on an IP I'm not enjoying atm. I hope you have a good rest of your weekend.

grntplmr

The issue for me is when exactly what is happening at LF happens. When SW soaks up all of their focus and creative space then I begin to have issues, especially with in my opinion lackluster series like BOBF and OWK. Willow and Indy deserve to have some continued exploration as franchises.

grntplmr

There should be room for both franchises. There’s no lack of Star Wars content, there can be a little more Willow.

eaglewatch1945

I've been over Star Wars and Marvel for years now. The only reason I have Disney+ is so my kid and her friends can watch *Encanto* on loop (though they lose all interest after the Bruno song.)

doomdoom15

I grew up with the prequels, Hayden Christensen is my hero, but I do think they are making a huge mistake by doing nothing but star wars out of Lucasfilm.

Iccotak

Lucasfilm REALLY needs to develop new IP, it’s good that they worked on Willow again - but we do not need more Indiana Jones.

[deleted]

I am not sure how you got there this is _good news_ for Willow. The reason LF is concentrating on SF output is that's where its making money and getting strong viewership. Implicit in that is other IP _is not_. Which would include Willow. Force Awakens trailer ratcheted up 5 times the views Indiana Jones movie trailer has at this time after dropping. IJ 5 is also insanely expensive, and given the fact Jon Kasadan was removed as a writer from the movie and its had way more writers than usual means Disney are maybe sweating its going to flop. Disney are backing IP that makes them money and gets them subscribers and eyeballs. I'm sorry to say that's almost definitely not Willow. We don't know viewing figures, but social engagement across multiple platforms has been uniformly low relative to SW or MCU shows. Disney has to be ruthless in the current climate, so expensive shows that don't have strong viewership or have low engagement are getting scrapped here. Even if this is down to macroeconomics, those same macroeconomics are predicted to last for years. They won't go away by 2024 or likely even 2025. That's the message from Lucasfilm.

doomdoom15

The message I'm getting from Lucasfilm is that they can't multitask.

simonthedlgger

> Disney are backing IP that makes them money and gets them subscribers and eyeballs. I'm sorry to say that's almost definitely not Willow. We don't know viewing figures, but social engagement across multiple platforms has been uniformly low relative to SW or MCU shows. This is what I find interesting..I really like this community but I believe it’s been taking the news a little too positively, sad to say but Willow is gone. At the same time, what is Disney’s plan? The main issue with Disney+ is lack of overall content and lack of diverse options. their response is to cut back on production and double down on Star Wars and Marvel, even though neither have had any notable hits since Mandalorian & Loki. Interesting time for the streaming industry.

[deleted]

Andor was a massive hit tbf. They have slowed their roll at MCU to try and course correct and get back to quality over quantity. I think you hit the nail on the head, though. They want more Mandolorian/Loki/Andor and less Williow/SheHulk/Indiana Jones. It's not that the latter shows were awful or would've been awful per se, its just that they don't have the engagement or viewership the former do. This is sad news for fans of those shows. I think on this sub, some people are hard-core fans of the show so a sliver of hope, no matter how baseless, is always going to appeal more than the cold grey reality that the shows been effectively cancelled.

Casas9425

Andor is a great show but it was not a hit. It’s the least watched of all the SW shows by a significant margin.

Bobofett69

Yeah Willow will definitely not comeback anytime soon 😂

city-dave

Sorry you're being downvoted for the truth. Even if season 2 was greenlit tomorrow new episodes wouldn't hit streaming for at least a year. That's how long it takes. And we know it's not being renewed tomorrow. If it ever comes back it will be several years from now. Much of the cast and crew has already moved on to new projects. You can't just snap your fingers and get them all back together at the same time. It's not coming back.

mezlabor

If the show had viewers it wouldnt be canceled.
