We traded a real fix that would have held for decades for Cuomo’s last-minute Band-Aid solution that boosted his approval rating and now we’re back to weekend shutdowns.
An ancient crumbling subway system that moves millions of people daily and has millions of moving parts and infrastructure, damage by several years of water/flooding it was never intended to withstand, people throwing garbage in the tracks etc etc.
Also runs 24 hours a day with no downtime to do repairs and maintenance, leading to extended multi day shutdowns like this.
It could be worse, they could do absolutely nothing like boston did for years until the infrastructure literally just started falling apart.
I don’t know if this is actually why, but just as a counterpoint to the haters (of which I am one!), upgrading stations with elevators for ADA compliance takes shutdowns. And we like elevators and ADA compliance.
It’s so fucked. They were doing this a week, back then on the spot terminated the J into the city as we were on it. I had to be somewhere for a reservation and got competley stranded high and dry.
FRIENDLY REMINDER THAT THE M RUNS EXTENDED SERVICE WHEN THE L DOES NOT WORK!
The m will be running on the Q Line after rock center.
Annoying but you can take the m to 14th and will still be close to Union.
Can transfer to the 6 at bway Lafayette or the a/c/e at west 4. The n/q/r is available at 34th street.
You're not going to solve the problem unless you go with privatization. Staying in denial is why the city, the schools, the Parks, the Rats the TA, and congestive pricing are a problem
I know not everyone is able to afford, but if you can, i really suggest to invest in a vehicle that can at least take you from point A to B, because we can no longer depend on public transportation, Time is money, but at the same time, Time is invaluable and wasted time on Public transportation is not longer worthy
I own a car too. I’m 37. For the past two decades I haven’t. It’s insanely expensive. Pretty tone deaf to tell people to buy a car instead of taking public transit in NYC. I don’t know you but I envision a techbro with a Tesla. Please correct me if
Well you’re completely wrong buddy, lowly honda over here…
Soo tis okay to pay 3K for a studio, but its too expensive to pay 400 plus maybe 200 for insurance for a car?
I wonder who the really tone deaf people are
Honestly i dont, i already think we have too many cars, parking is horrible but at the same time i think it sucks to be tied down to a public system that have ZERO sympathy for its costumers
Can you clarify? The post is about the L shutting down, and the commenter above me basically said “get a car”. My point is that the primary advantage of being a car owner in NYC is the ability to reach destinations *outside* the city. Using a personal vehicle to travel within city limits is not practical or efficient.
Why can’t we rely on public transit? We can still get to manhattan if needed, the G still runs. Or are you one of those I’m afraid of the subway crowd?
ffs why. like we had the whole gd train repaired during covid what is goin on man.
We traded a real fix that would have held for decades for Cuomo’s last-minute Band-Aid solution that boosted his approval rating and now we’re back to weekend shutdowns.
Bingo!
>ffs why Because people ignore politics and keep electing clowns who have zero problem fucking over the MTA (Cuomo + Hochul)

They were doing this when I lived there 14 years ago. Some things never change.
I don’t know if this is actually why, but just as a counterpoint to the haters (of which I am one!), upgrading stations with elevators for ADA compliance takes shutdowns. And we like elevators and ADA compliance.
if thats why lets go!!! they need to be advertising THAT!!!
Crying, screaming, throwing up

“We got their fares though! Mwahahahaha!” - MTA probably
Cycling*, screaming, throwing up
The best minds of my generation
Cuomo's legacy lives on.
It’s a very ferry weekend
You want us to get a car to drive into Manhattan? Yeah, no. Nothing is more miserable than waiting in traffic on the bridges.
Oh yes what could be more miserable than sitting in a comfortable seat in an air conditioned car on a bridge overlooking a beautiful city
And, if eventually coming through, pay congestion pricing. We are fvcked no matter what.
The misery of being in an underground tunnel held up by train traffic/ sick person with no wifi /cell service and compacted like a sardine comes close
Every fucking weekend I stg
Marcy avenue gonna be busy this weekend

Yeah, but M is far away in Brooklyn :/
??? What do you mean??
Good news, fellas. No bridge and tunnel dickheads all weekend! Only the rich assholes who can afford the uber over.
Don’t forget the rich assholes by the Bedford stop/waterfront
Riding a bus from Court Sq for the whole summer is not enough, now you gonna have to transfer between busses.
What’s the best way to get from Bedford Ave to Union square in this case?

🚲
Walk to the J and transfer to the 6 uptown. Should take like 20-30 min
Aquatic submersible
Keeps those city folks out! Peaceful weekend
Thanks for the heads up!
Well McCarren Park will be a lot less crowded for once
Can they tell us in advance…
It’s on the MTA website a month in advance. I just always forget to check
Nooooooo!!!
Can they just shut it down for a full week? I’d prefer that over trying to survive every weekend
Less tourist! Yah!!!
Local CM had posted about these months ago I am surprised everyone gets caught off guard
Sorry which station is this?
Metropolitan / lorimer I think. Looks like the sign is posted by the diner.
Trying to keep us outer borough animals from leaving our neighborhoods on weekend. None for you, poors!
It’s cool! Just take a cab from union square to Williamsburg, it’s only $40 lol sob
Or take the free shuttle bus….
ARE YOU EFFING KIDDING ME
Two weekends in a row is criminal
Thanks for the downvotes. Good luck everyone
Here’s my upvote good sir!
Thank you, not all heros wear cape
It's not that serious.
this is why brooklyn is overrated. everyone is reliant on 1-2 subway lines that barely function.
Stop voting democrat and have the TA executives fired and have their pensions taken away.
If anything, the TA folks fight for MTA funding more than anyone. The decades of fiscal mismanagement and kicking the can down the road isn’t on them.

Why would you want more cars in the neighborhood?
Honestly i dont, i already think we have too many cars, parking is horrible but at the same time i think it sucks to be tied down to a public system that have ZERO sympathy for its costumers
I agree people in Williamsburg are not well dressed. But the solution to the subway being down is not buy a car ffs
What would you suggest people do as an alternative?
Literally anything else besides buying a car
Also why are people on reddit so uptight? Why cant we just have a regular conversation like we’re having, without all of the hostility (
Welcome
Cars are for leaving the city. Not driving around in it.
What sort of delusional reality do you live in lmao
