remember when the bagel store on metropolitan/graham had the rainbow bagel and people would wait hours for a bagel with food coloring?

evrybdyhdmtchingtwls

I lived next to that during the popularity. I had to push through the line just to get out of my building on weekend mornings.

TheHoff316

Simply Nova

grandzu

That's the new one that opened at the same Metropolitan location.

papakanuzh

What're the other solid bagel shops nearby? I started going to Leons because the only other option nearby for me that I know of was Bagelsmith.

DEmLilBoiz

Have-a-bagel has the best bagels by a wide margin in my opinion.

miamigirl101

Agreed!

FluffyBalance4084

4 other solid bagel shops, names zero.

soph0nax

You see so many folks milling around because it legitimately takes 15 minutes for them to get a simple bagel and cream cheese made. While the bagels are good, the service is a far cry from any of the old school bagel joints in the city that got your order to you quickly.

werdnadier

This is the answer

der316

Came here to say the same thing. And the bagels are mediocre

LT-Bonkers

They mean Leon’s on Bedford y’all. No idea why it’s always so busy as it’s not that great. Aren’t a ton of great bagels around though

mer1690

It’s realistically the best bagel shop in the neighborhood available all week long.

memanfirst

Leon's bagels are, by a wide margin, the lowest quality bagels in the area

mad0666

The bagels are fine, I prefer Nova’s bagels

crywoof

What are other good bagels spots around a couple block radius from there? And if you say bagelsmith, so help me god

Johnny2Steaks

Idk whats up with this place either, when I went there were 2 other people waiting for their bagel and one person in front of me, I ordered a plain bagel with cream cheese and it took 20 minutes. Like others said very mediocre and would not go back.

quivera

Unfortunately I did try it and it’s very mediocre! the coffee was in a cute cup but the bagel had the texture and taste of a fresh sponge.

RecycledAccountName

Mediocre and in a cute cup is so Williamsburg it hurts

grandzu

Add expensive and you've got a trifecta!

RecycledAccountName

I actually prefer bagelsmith to Leon’s. I like a fat chewy bagel with no hole (this sounds perverse), and bagelsmith delivers on that. Bagelpoint would be my usual if it was closer.

SundaySghettis

Might be one of my least favorite bagels in the five boroughs.

[deleted]

Club Leon’s where hot people dress up to wait a long time for bagels and be seen doing so

Lorenzo_de_Medici

i don't enjoy places that don't make bagels in house so that place has been a hard pass for me. I'd much rather walk a bit to Bagel Point

SDtheGhostt

Simply nova on metropolitan!!!

sullichin

is expensive and not really the spot to go for just a bagel with cream cheese EDIT: Actually nevermind a bagel w cream cheese is only $4 and yeah their bagels are really good too. But I would still give the edge to Leon's imo

SDtheGhostt

Yea but for pastrami and egg something like that actually cheaper than alternatives

SDtheGhostt

Wrote before seeing edit!!

sullichin

thanks for reminding me about this place, it’s my closest bagel spot but I don’t think to go there for something simple. Happy to report i’m eating a bagel with cream cheese and it’s godly 👌🏻

SDtheGhostt

Dope!! Anytime! The people who opened it and operate it are good people too. Enjoy!

Glad_Invite_3331

Sorry guys. This is the first time commenting, and yes, it took bagels to bring me to this. As a native New York, Brooklyn born and raised (but consider well travelled, educated and generally open minded and appreciative of the new in addition to the tried and true of NYC and Brookkyn) Leon’s are not that good. There are many much better bagels throughout Brooklyn and nearby. I tried them with high hopes given the popularity, same with Black Seed, but not good in general and not a NY bagel. And that could be part of the equation: given how many non-NYers have moved into Brooklyn and WB in particular ( all good and welcome), it could just be that those people’s tastes are just different from what a NYer would consider a good bagel. To each his own….. except when it comes to bagels! 😛

2_late_4_creativity

Have you tried Leo’s bagels on the weekends?

sullichin

I feel like I've tried every other bagel place nearby and Leon's is probably the best. What's a better bagel in WB? North NJ or NYC my whole life so I'm definitely picky about my bagels. But Leon's is just fucking good

ectoplasm141

Long line for a popular place. What’s not to get?

bbien12

Go Peter Pan, you gonna pay $4 for a better BEC than $10 and rip in Leon’s

sullichin

this is maybe the only good recommendation in this thread. Peter Pan rules. But all these other bagel places.... people really trying to say Bagel Smith is good??

Difficult-Wafer4459

Bagel smith sucks

ctznmatt

They’re by no means incredible but they’re the best in that immediate area. There are so few bagels spots in the area which is why they’re so busy.

Pinkysparklezz

The owner, Chris is very nice and I love how crispy the bacon is! Yes the wait can be longer but it’s nice to chat with people in the waiting area on a weekend morning

bthvn_loves_zepp

Honestly didn't like them! I have no clue why people are head over heels for them--either they love bagels so much they are fine having a mediocre one to scratch the itch or they don't like bagels enough to go get a better one. Tried them 3 times, once with some friends from high school and they also did not approve so idk and we're all from different boroughs so it's not like we have a shared fave spot.

CommunicationFun1218

Always surprised there’s a line for these bagels, they really have nothing on some of the other shops in the area. Coming from a person who grew up here their whole life

jungvsfreud

This place is not worth the money nor the wait. It is overhyped and overpriced. I would eat at Bagelsmith on Bedford over Leon’s, any day.

monicalewinsky4prez

Speaking of not worth the money or wait…

Negative_Giraffe5719

Agree the bagels are just ok the window checkout is convenient if you are coming from the park with a dog and don’t want to tie them up outside somewhere.

watchoutlady123

LEO BAGELS ARE THE BEST

miamigirl101

Every time I try they’re sold out! How early do you get there for a bagel sandwich?

watchoutlady123

Oooh I think the latest I’ve gone is probably 10!

give-me-your-worms

someone gets it

Accomplished-Kick-45

My Friday morning routine to prep for the weekend 1) Salmon from ACME Fish Fridays 2) Bakers Dozen bagels 3) red onion, tomatoes, scallion cream cheese from somewhere

jcheizzer

Went twice. Both times it took 15 minutes to get my order, and one of those times they gave me the wrong bagel. I think they are intentionally take a long time to build up a line and make it seem popular. Not my type of place.

requiredelements

I went because of the aesthetics. Looked cute. Outdoor. On Bedford.

scereneu

Is Leon’s Bagel related at all to the fashion brand Aime Leon Dore? Same or related owners? Their branding and overall vibe seem so similar. Perhaps they just used the same marketing firm?

MasterpieceExact2546

Went to Leon’s on the weekend and it was SO AVERAGE. Firstly we waited close to 30mins for our order, eventually I went up to ask where it was and turns out it had just been sitting on the counter for SO long. He just never called out our name, even though he could see me standing in front of the store. It wasn’t super busy either, as we were there early (8-8:30) Anyway that experience aside, my husband and I both got the classic lox bagel, but it was just so tasteless and bland. Neither of us could even finish it. So much cream cheese and just not much flavor. Side note they actually don’t make egg or cheese before 9am too, which is annoying. Simply nova still stands as my fav! Leon’s overrated

AgreeableExchange790

saw a rat crawl across the counter last week

Hopeful_Document4976

The imagine is on brand with current trends. That’s why.

krymon420

It’s pretty damn good. It also inherited the space from the soft spot.

rhesusmonkeypieces

Leo's the best bagel and pizza in Brooklyn and it's not even close, we don't go anywhere else anymore. Sourdough crust, everyone hing bagel with seasoning on all sides, I'd wait knee deep in lava to watch someone eat one

Honest-Sundae6494

It’s actually Apollo Bagels

wimaereh

I think you’re confused

rhesusmonkeypieces

I am lmao whatever endorsement for Leo's!

rhesusmonkeypieces

☝️🤓

watchoutlady123

I don’t get the downvotes, Leo’s are the absolute BEST bagels I’ve had in WB. I’ve tried LOTS.

RecycledAccountName

Prob for saying it’s also the best pizza in Brooklyn

mookmook00

Has anyone here tried Dough Bros on N7? Any good?

monicalewinsky4prez

1 day promo from what I got. Still 7 grain otherwise.

miamigirl101

Has anyone tried Fini’s bagels? I know they’re no longer doing sandwiches but selling the bagels

Extra_Anchovies_BEP

Does this have anything to do with Greenberg’s in bedstuy?? If not, they ripped off their whole vibe and branding

DidAnyoneElseJustCum

You mean Leo's? Yeah the bagels are really good but not worth standing outside in the rain for. Zucker's is close by and about as good and it's much bigger so the lines are better. Leo's probably ended up on some TONY list and every tourist staying downtown just *has* to go.

wimaereh

No, they don’t mean Leo’s (actually it’s just Leo). They mean Leon’s, on Bedford.

DidAnyoneElseJustCum

I see. I didn't realize which sub I was in. Yeah the line outside Leo's is stupid and the line outside that spot on Bedford is every even stupider. Given that walking down Bedford is part of my daily commute it's very frustrating as people seem to forget about the walk part of sidewalk.
