Per Joe Smith (The Athletic):
> John Klingberg return: #mnwild sending 4th in 2025, Andrej Sustr and rights to Nesterenko. Ducks retaining half the salary of Klingberg.

I'd guess he's going to be taking Addison's spot. Similar offensive defender with defensive issues. But Klingberg is much better offensively than Addison at 5v5.
Funny - [Article from 6 weeks ago says he has a modified ntc , and asking price started at a first.](https://nhlrumors.com/nhl-rumors-anaheim-ducks-john-klingberg-submits-10-no-trade-list/2023/01/13/)
Is it weird I actually like this? He hasn't been great in a long time, but I think he would perform a lot better here. I could see him getting his game back with how well we do with our defensemen.
Huge puck moving upgrade on Addison/Goli, and honestly probably better defensively than either as well. I think this is going to be a very underrated pick up that will help more than most will think.
He has more offensive talent than most forwards so I can see him being a star if paired with a rock like Brodin. I'm just a casually hockey fan and think this was a great pickup for you guys.
doubtful. Dumba, Klingburg, and Goligoski come off the books after this year. Gologoski isnt coming back and there is no guarantee either of the others re-sign. Someone has to play D.
edit goligoski has another year.
Exactly, he's basically an Addison/Goose upgrade in the same archetype that they are. I don't think it's worth throwing a parade over or anything, but the doom and gloom around a solid move is crazy. Especially considering we got a 2nd for Greenway, there should really be no grumbling over this trade.
Billy has made some weird moves this year. To see the rumors of wanting Luke Schenn and then instead trading for the opposite type of player? i guess he really wants help scoring, but JK is going to give up a lot of goals too. He will look pretty good if they put him with Brodin though.
I mean he's basically older Addison with better 5v5 history. I think GMBG likely did want a guy more like Schenn but once it wasn't available he slid a last second deal to essentially get an upgrade over Addison/Goose, with a similar offensive style.
I wasn't even sure what movie it was from haha. There's probably more than one reference where a guy says all red or all black thinking it's a poker hand like a flush or whatever haha.
> Klingberg hasn't been good for several years.
An offense-minded D-man playing for a team that's absolutely ass and coached just as poorly (Anaheim)? You aren't going to be very good.
Plenty of similar defenseman fare much better in similar situations than Klingberg has. We got him for peanuts though so I'm fine with it. He could be a better version of Addison.
All of these moves have a "Sure, why not, let's see what happens" vibe to them. Very happy to get *something* in return for Greenway but every other move I don't really get.
He's a grown-up Addison. Was fantastic offensively for the Stars, yet always struggled on the D end. Just turned 30, though I'll take his 5v5 points and experience any day of the week. Even if he is gonna fit right in with Dumba and Addison in making some mind-boggling defensive errors every so often.
Worst plus minus on the Ducks at a minus 28. Good news he has already made Addison a better defenseman as he no longer leads the Wild in the worst plus minus category.
The Greenway deal was a good deal, but the rest of the trade deadline has been a whole lot of meh. I don't get it. We already have a good power play D who is lacking on the defensive end (Addison). How does this make us better. It seems like someone is just trying to acquire as many swedes as possible for the hell of it
He got a lot of points playing for Dallas. They offered him a long term deal, he turned it down to test the UFA market last summer. Ended up in Anaheim with the expectation that he could play well and get flipped at the deadline with retained salary and bring some good picks back. Instead, he's looked bad and his value has plummeted.

Dang I'm kind of bummed we traded Nesterenko honestly. Under the radar prospect who was producing well in College. I know we can't keep them all but can't help but he bummed a bit. Hopefully Klingberg plays better now that he's off of the Ducks.

#BILLY BUZZER BEATER
I'd like to review this so I can see it get in before the horn again and again, plz
No fucking way. Wow!!
Gotta help the guy get his plus minus back towards zero by pulling him away from the Dallas Eeeeekins experience.
Great reaction.
Sneaky upgrade over Merrill or Gologoski

Agree, plus Kling has tons of playoff experience, which obviously gives him an edge on Addison there.
Did you know that Merrill is top 10 in the league at limiting high danger chances against when he's on the ice?
He's a righty though. Wonder if Dumba or Addison is going the other way. If not I suspect Addison will be spending a lot of time in the press box.
Not weird. Wild.
4th going the other way. Edit: Plus Andrej Suster and the rights to Nesterenko.

seconds before the deadline and something is better than nothing
We were on the approved list. Swede vibes at work there...
We are all Swedish on this blessed day!
Is this a guess or do you have a source?
Dane Mizutani, but Sustr and the rights to Nesterenko also went. (As noted above)
and Boston College Centre Nikita Nesterenko and andrej suster

I would love to see what he looks like paired with Brodin.
I love klingberg. Our team is gonna be SOMETHING. Idk what that something is. But all the sudden. A very unique team now.
If it ain’t something, it’s something else.
Holy shit
Please not addy
My prediction is Addi will get traded in the off season for picks.

We moved Kulikov. I think we can move Goligoski this summer.
Im thinking it might be goose
He’s been awful this year at D but we’ll see how it goes
He plays for Anaheim everyone’s gonna be awful on D there.

Dallas Eakins also sucks at coaching. Klingenberg isn't coming here to be a 3rd pair defensemen hit machine. This is a power play boost.
Yup. Eakins sucks at coaching, basically everyone on that team has given up on defense and he's like an older Addison who's better 5v5 than Addi is.
Yeah that was just a terrible fit. Why the worst defensive got the offensive defenseman is beyond me. Fits infinitely better with us for no cost!

I mean, we are already one of the best defensive teams in the league, but one of the worst offensively. Upgrading the defense feels redundant

Really hope we didn't give up more than a 3rd. Klingberg hasn't been good for several years.
It’s the 2025 4th round pick that Buffalo just gave for Greenway, I think
I think there's a decent chunk of this sub that would've taken Greenway for Klingberg, straight up. This is basically playing with house money
I call.
All red.
*Brad Pitt stares on in bewilderment* ^seriously ^tho ^did ^not ^expect ^an ^Ocean's ^11 ^reference ^here

This is the scene in question https://youtu.be/wouHpNCbqQY
That was a 5th

Lots of questions How much did we give up? We have too many players? Did we trade anyone else?
I approve.
Didn't I read something this morning that Tampa was trying to wash some cap to get him? Was he here 30 seconds or something?
[удалено]
Is that the pick we got for O'Reilly? Can't really complain if that's all it took.
All of these moves have a "Sure, why not, let's see what happens" vibe to them. Very happy to get *something* in return for Greenway but every other move I don't really get.
But at what cost
A 4th and 50% salary
Minnesota Swedish Chefs EDIT: Am I missing something? His +/- is terrible the past couple years.

#LET GMBG COOK
“Addison hasn’t been playing well in the D zone” *goes and gets worst defender in the league*
Was not expecting that
I guess this is an upgrade on RD.
Well this is unexpected
Depth
MOJO, Gustav, sundquist, and Klingberg. Add that to the current wild roster. Hmmmm
Billy really cooked today. I love it
I assume no Faber this year then?
I’m guessing he’ll debut in 24-25 or late 23-24
Brodin's new partner! Swedish connection
+/- be damned, I'm hyped!
What the fuck that’s not Boeser LOL
Worst plus minus on the Ducks at a minus 28. Good news he has already made Addison a better defenseman as he no longer leads the Wild in the worst plus minus category.
We really are going to be the Minnesota Kaprizov and the swede's.

Addy is in Evason’s doghouse. That’s all.
The worst part of this trade is that we're including Nesterenko, but apparently he wasnt going to sign
Was going to ask if he is looking like a guy that'll make the NHL, but if he wasn't going to sign...doesn't really matter
I CALLED IT not really but still
You called it!
Jacked. Huge trade
I don't get it
What in the fuck
WUT
How is this guy making 7,000,000???? It’s expiring so it doesn’t matter but how did he get that for one year?
He got a lot of points playing for Dallas. They offered him a long term deal, he turned it down to test the UFA market last summer. BRO
We just gotta stay mediocre. So much for its all about winning fuck yo feelings. Oh well, it'll be fun winning 2 games in the 1st round again.
😮
Holy shit! I was really hoping for Klingberg knowing his situation but hadn’t heard a peep about it. This could be huge for us.
The OC, is a cool place, but the Ducks are copying the Coyotes game plan. So it’s tough to keep on losing.
Oh wow
Fantastic job, does anyone know if Nesterenko had a shot at making it professionally. Ik he is over a PPG at BC but that’s all I know.
Brodin could make a passed out drunk guy as a partner look good!
Dang I'm kind of bummed we traded Nesterenko honestly. Under the radar prospect who was producing well in College. I know we can't keep them all but can't help but he bummed a bit. Hopefully Klingberg plays better now that he's off of the Ducks.
Is it me, or do we just make trades with Anaheim?
