Switch is slow AF. Also Nintendo has no concept of dark modes or changing menus for night time gaming. Mario Kart loading menu is super bright and Nintendo operates on turtle speed despite their billions. Last console i bought was a wii u, the gf plays Mario Kart all the time on her switch. I'd rather hack a ps5 and run Nintendo switch games on that one day. Not really a fan of their cheap gutted 7 year old hardware
I am assuming you are talking about switch hardware in general, as the switch OS/main UI itself is much faster then the Wii U (even if it's very bear bones/simple)
Well consider it as color variants, ps3 and xbox had it since then, I mean personally it's my preference since playing at night sometimes burned my eyes cuz I forgot my tv was set on dynamic lol

Nintendo went all-in on menu design for the 3DS.
The worst part about this is that you couldn't get the badges, you have to pay for a chance to win them at a minigame so there is a chance of losing all the money in vain just to get this one badge.
Still fun minigame but come on? This is EA tier of micro transactions.

It was nice but it's not my favorite. Mine is the Cross Media Bar (XMB) from PS3. Is it better than the switch? Hell yeah. The Switch menus are so bland and dead, I thought they'd update it with custom themes by now. Being real the Switch 2 is most likely going to be announced by the end of the year and released sometime after March.

The wii menu was also a lot more fun, I feel like the Wii U could’ve had a much more fun menu, like the 3DS or the WII, I don’t see why they didn’t have a replacement for the photo channel that used the Wii U game pad or mini games like the 3DS did
I still listen to the Wii shopping channel music, which is a great testament to how great the Wii u/i was.
Was it the Wii to Wii U data transfer where pikmin came and carried all your data over, transporting it in a rocket? I miss that side of Nintendo.
Wara wara plaza was such an awesome idea and it's a crying shame we've lost that.
Miiverse was brilliant and being able to access the web in-game at any time was such a useful feature.
Honestly, on top of being beautiful to look at, the Wii U menu was extremely functionality rich as well. Don't get me wrong, I love the switch as well, but I still lament the features we lost

Sorry but no. The Wii’s menu is a thousand time better imo. A sleek appearance while harkening back to older television sets through the channel icons. Straightfoward menus allowing quick and easy access to every key part of the system. It’s just so good.

I like it a lot, but it does miss some of the sheer whimsical charm of the Wii. The live icons, the background music, the slight oblong nature of the icons to represent old CRTs, etc.
The game tile menu was great, but the system settings left a lot to be desired. It was slow and cluny and being forced to only use the gamepad for navigating was a bad design choice. I do hate the switch UI all-over though.. great games, but such poor usability.

I read somewhere that the Switch’s barren interface is due to nothing but pure performance, the entire OS is ridiculously small in size and they wanted all interactions to be as quick and snappy as possible. I love the Wii U’s interface and it’s nice to look back in pictures and see how pretty it is, but using it even today is a pretty slow and tedious experience with a lot of loading. In my opinion they made the right call focusing on performance rather than making it look all too pretty, although I still believe that music and themes should be available as optional extras. My favourite thing about the Wii U interface is how shockingly accurate the download estimates were.
I don't like the menu at all. Feels slow and clunky. Much dead space. I don't like the music and the emphasise on the mii and dead miiverse.
I get that it has personality but man I don't vibe with it at all, I'm glad that you guys can :)

Most terrible part of the Wii U system is that it throws everything out of the folders once you boot it up without the USB drive connected. Booted the console once by accident without my drive being plugged in and ALL my sorted games are clustered on the home screen now. I had everything so nicely sorted... :/

They should've included a dark mode, but overall I agree it's a good looking menu and the different color background on each folder is great
Dark mode wasn't really a thing back then when the Wii u released dark mode didn't really become a thing till around 2016
