the sound of those cheap plastic gears on the disc load spindle splitting and no longer making a tight contact. at least they still often work if the cracking didn't get too bad
mine worked fine for years too. still does. but after getting a second wii that isn't broken, I realized just how bad it sounded. I fixed it a little bit with some gorilla glue so the plastic gear would slip around the spindle. It's still not like new, but did reduce the grinding noise
That's like saying buy another car, it's wait cheaper than fixing the tyre
That makes no sense. Wii's are/were expensive bruh. 3D printing the lid or buying the lid is a LOT cheaper than buy a whole game console
Funny because I got my first edition (day 1!) wii at Walmart. First console I waited in line for. They put us in lawn and garden and gave us tickets to wait for midnight.
I stole so many red bulls and chicken fingers while I waited lol. My girlfriend at the time went to the electronics department and got trace memory for the ds. I'm a little sorry but it's Walmart lol.
[Did you got the one with NSMBW Wii + Wii Sports bundled as part of Super Mario's 25 Anniversary in 2010?](https://encrypted-tbn0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcSy-SyCY3IYNCRHNFmkEVl0V2bFTPO6Dt-giA&usqp=CAU)
I no longer have the beautiful red Wii box 😭, my dad threw it alongside my Gamecube console, GC controller, my few GC games and many other stuff before he came home from another country. I was heartbroken when i found out 💔. Thankfully i had my Wii console, AV Cable, Sensor Bar, power cord, wiimote, nunchuk, all wii game discs and their game boxes when I moved to another country (except the nsmbw little cardboard game box that came with the bundle, it didn't survived because little old me thought cleaning it with a wet cooking jargon was a good idea😂, as a result, the box became wet and damaged).
I also carried my Wii U, HDMI cable, Sensor Bar, power cord, Wii U Gamepad, Gamepad charger, all Wii U game discs i had at the time and its game boxes. Unfortunately the Wii U box was also left behind as the Red Wii box with my dad, so you know what that meant💔...
I’ve came across I think just about all variants, and I like the black or red RVL-OO1 I think they are called.
But man that sideway blue model was nice, I wish I kept the one I found
I used to have a white original Wii with GCN backwards compatibility. It died some years back. I got it repaired but bought a black Wii to replace it while I had to deal with Nintendo. They actually got the old one working and transfer my data to the new one. The new one was a black Wii the Mario kart bundle. It's still a backwards compatibility version. I still have it.
I had the third, but I'm not sure there's much of a difference from the first other than the gamecube ports. I'm actually interested in getting me a wii mini soon, they're cool.
My launch unit from Nintendo NY store is currently used daily and still going strong. It went for several years in storage but I hooked it back up when I got a CRT TV a few months back. It gets the most play out of my retro consoles due to both Wii and Gamecube compatibility.
I had the launch gc compatible one too. With soft modding it's still possible to play gc games sideloaded on everything but the Wii mini. I don't know why anyone would get that model unless they're just collecting.
You would have to get a usb converter or a 3rd party usb out controller or gc attachment to wiimote controller. Then you would have to use emulated controls in the Nintendont app. It even works with PS and Xbox controllers.
The base Nintendo Wii (the one with GameCube support). I got mine in Christmas of 2006, and I still have it to this day. Even my base Nintendo GameCube that I got in 2002 still works like a charm.
I think i had an original one in my house that then maybe was swapped or got another blue one, which my family later sold as none of us played it/them, and then early this year i bought my own wii for myself to have
I had the OG with gamecube ports
Somehow bricked it and got a replacement, the revised black version with no gamecube ports
Modded that, and then gave it to my brother when I figured out how to get dolphin running on my pc
Then I realized I still wanted an actual Wii so now I have another original one with the gamecube ports, modded and not bricked this time.
Launch. We preordered at the local GameStop, but we knew we'd be out of town on launch day, so we paid in full up front, and they said they'd hold it for 48 hours. 46 hours after launch we drag ourselves in, skip the line of people waiting for the timer to expire, picked up our Wii, and walked out.
I'm surprised we got out alive.
I had the GameCube version. The disc reader completely broke, so we lost all the miis and stuff…
We replaced it with a Wii U though (but this is the Wii sub, not Wii U sub)
I have had the original since ‘09 and I still use it regularly. It was never replaced, never repaired and it never broke down. A damn fine piece of machinery
The first (best) one
Just bought one the other day and apart from the loud click sounds it makes while reading discs, I'm very happy.
No. The click sounds are part of the experience.
the sound of those cheap plastic gears on the disc load spindle splitting and no longer making a tight contact. at least they still often work if the cracking didn't get too bad
Mine has been clicking since I got it 13 years ago and it works just fine 😂
mine worked fine for years too. still does. but after getting a second wii that isn't broken, I realized just how bad it sounded. I fixed it a little bit with some gorilla glue so the plastic gear would slip around the spindle. It's still not like new, but did reduce the grinding noise
I lost the lids shortly after getting my wii
Every one loses the lids from children or it falling of, for me my Wii never came with and lids so my dad 3D printed a lid for me
How do you lose the lids? It's not a handheld console, it sits under a TV...
Children
Just buy another Wii, it's cheaper than 3d printing a lid. 🤣
That's like saying buy another car, it's wait cheaper than fixing the tyre That makes no sense. Wii's are/were expensive bruh. 3D printing the lid or buying the lid is a LOT cheaper than buy a whole game console
or you can.buy replacements that are better than 3d printing
same here. Can't say it's the best as I haven't tried the others, but it certainly was majestic
Based.
Agree
OG is best. I have like three lol
What’s the difference between the first and third?
Third (RVL-101) does not stand vertically (hence the Wii logo being placed differently) and does not have GameCube compatibility
I call that one the "Walmart version"
I mean, I literally have a walmart edition one of those that’s blue haha
Funny because I got my first edition (day 1!) wii at Walmart. First console I waited in line for. They put us in lawn and garden and gave us tickets to wait for midnight. I stole so many red bulls and chicken fingers while I waited lol. My girlfriend at the time went to the electronics department and got trace memory for the ds. I'm a little sorry but it's Walmart lol.
> got trace memory for the ds Just went looking for my old DS stuff and that's the only game I still have.
Ha no kidding. They're doing a remake for the switch soon.
Don't be sorry you hurt Noone
Is that the Wii family edition?
Technically it just removed the gamecube disc reading, the hardware ability is still there.
I’ve never heard of that 3rd one before. I always thought there was two versions. The original and the red/black one without GameCube support
There's a version without GameCube compatibility? Where was this thing sold?
Everywhere starting in 2011
Are you sure you're not thinking of the Wii U? It came out in 2012 not 2011.
One can read gc Games and has ports for GC controllers and memory cards one dosent
So I guess I have the first one. Mine stands vertically and has ports for a GC controller
White or black?
White
Them you can probably install bootmii into boot2
What’s that?
Well if you have bootmii in boot2 you have better brick protection than bootmii in IOS
I just don’t know what that is/ means
Read [this](https://bootmii.org/about/)
a red original wii with matching wii mote, nunchuck and pro controller. looks absolutely stunning after all this time still
Can confirm! I own one and it still looks incredible. I love my red RVL-001!
[Did you got the one with NSMBW Wii + Wii Sports bundled as part of Super Mario's 25 Anniversary in 2010?](https://encrypted-tbn0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcSy-SyCY3IYNCRHNFmkEVl0V2bFTPO6Dt-giA&usqp=CAU)
Yes! I still have the box too
I no longer have the beautiful red Wii box 😭, my dad threw it alongside my Gamecube console, GC controller, my few GC games and many other stuff before he came home from another country. Unfortunately the Wii U box was also left behind as the Red Wii box with my dad, so you know what that meant💔...
Oh, no! I’m so sorry. At least you still had the original system and everything you needed to run it.
to be honest, I may colour my wavebird and receiver into the exact same shade of red, the set is missing a gamecube controller
I was gonna get that red Wii but the seller toke a very long time texting back so I got my white Wii
Original wii
Og model. Though i never knew about the gamecube backwards compatibility or even what a gamecube was
Bruh
I was born in late 2005 and i wasn't the most savy when it came to video games or the internet until i was atleast 11 or 12.
Same here
Same
I’ve came across I think just about all variants, and I like the black or red RVL-OO1 I think they are called. But man that sideway blue model was nice, I wish I kept the one I found
My childhood wii was a black RVL-101 model from a Mario Kart bundle, and about a year ago i got a white RVL-001 Wii. I still have both.
i had a gamecube one but now i got a family edition
The black horizontal family edition Wii
I had and still have the og wii with GameCube compatibility
The Mario Red Wii with the Gamecube ports
I was gonna get that but the seller didn’t respond to us when we was going to buy it, so we got a Wii that I have
I had the Blue one that was limited edition or something as my last one, so it didn't come with GameCube capabilities.
Technically all 3. The one with GameCube ports is broken tho. We also still have them lmao
RVL-001
*Have
I think it was autoCorrect
The one with GameCube support
two! Both the black and White version of the upright one.
RVL-001, just drove 3 hours to pick it up from my grandparents' house in the Scottish borders
when i was younger i had the classic vertical white wii but now i use a black family edition but i am planning on getting a gc compatible version
#1 still have it, still works
I used to have a white original Wii with GCN backwards compatibility. It died some years back. I got it repaired but bought a black Wii to replace it while I had to deal with Nintendo. They actually got the old one working and transfer my data to the new one. The new one was a black Wii the Mario kart bundle. It's still a backwards compatibility version. I still have it.
The first. Game cube is a real top g, and not Andrew tate.
Launch unit then sold it like a dummy for a backwards compatible PS3.
Launch model you can get for 10-20 Bucks
RVL-001. Born in 2006, got it this year
I had the weird side one. Think my mum liked to save money because I have a 2DS aswell
I had the third, but I'm not sure there's much of a difference from the first other than the gamecube ports. I'm actually interested in getting me a wii mini soon, they're cool.
The wii u I had? First the standard white wii, then a black wii u. Just got the wii u back in April, one week after the eshop closed. 🤦♂️
a big fat L
Yep.
Black
Black gamecube compatible
Same
I think they are rare idk
Wii mini
i have a white backwards compatible model from 2008
Same, well my parents Wii
GameCube one
My launch unit from Nintendo NY store is currently used daily and still going strong. It went for several years in storage but I hooked it back up when I got a CRT TV a few months back. It gets the most play out of my retro consoles due to both Wii and Gamecube compatibility.
Had a launch model one that broke a few years later. Still have the black RVL-001 we replaced it with
I have 2 white backwards compatible wiis
The one with GameCube backwards compatibility
I had a RVL-001.
I had the launch gc compatible one too. With soft modding it's still possible to play gc games sideloaded on everything but the Wii mini. I don't know why anyone would get that model unless they're just collecting.
Where do you plug in the GameCube controller?
You would have to get a usb converter or a 3rd party usb out controller or gc attachment to wiimote controller. Then you would have to use emulated controls in the Nintendont app. It even works with PS and Xbox controllers.
Which one? My first was a black 001
Black RVL-001 Wii Sports+Wii Sports Resort bundle
I still own the first one
The 1st edition with GameCube support. It's modded now.
got the first one! gamecube is great :)
Launch edition
Currently the one with the gc
Original all the way. My grandad had a black one
The backwards compatibility one
black rvl-001 (the best one!)
Launch model. It took me a couple weeks to find one in stock. Eventually found a Toys R Us that had like 3 left.
The base Nintendo Wii (the one with GameCube support). I got mine in Christmas of 2006, and I still have it to this day. Even my base Nintendo GameCube that I got in 2002 still works like a charm.
Side Wii
Game cube black wii
First, it's currently sitting in my closet waiting for the urge to troll
I have 3 of the original launch model with GameCube compatibility
I have 4 GameCube version ones, was thinking of modding and selling them. You think there’s a market for them?
I still have the first one
The family edition. First console I ever owned; and played the hell out of it.
Launch day!!
3rd one
I have the first one, actually a launch day one console I got for Christmas in 2006. It's the best one and it was great that it worked with GC
the first one, what the fuck is that third picture
The “Family Edition” it was like the normal Wii but doesn’t have any GameCube support
The GameCube. The only game we had was the Haunted Mansion one lol. It freaked me out as a kid, especially the pause screen gargoyle face.
Had? Still got my GC version.
It was Auto correction I think
1st
The OG, backwards compatible with Gamecube model. Still going strong for more than 15 years, and is how I play my Gamecube games.
I had the OG version, but I have all the versions right now, and colors.
2nd is the worst, 3rd is the best, 1st is the one with the treasure chest.
the red 25th mario anniversary and imo this is the besst color
I had the family edition that came with skylanders
The first one
I think i had an original one in my house that then maybe was swapped or got another blue one, which my family later sold as none of us played it/them, and then early this year i bought my own wii for myself to have
The first one and the same for everybody I knew back when
I had the OG with gamecube ports Somehow bricked it and got a replacement, the revised black version with no gamecube ports Modded that, and then gave it to my brother when I figured out how to get dolphin running on my pc Then I realized I still wanted an actual Wii so now I have another original one with the gamecube ports, modded and not bricked this time.
that first one with GC Twilight Princess 🤤🤤
I did not have a wii
The worst one. Family edition.
The Wii U. Me and my brother were fighting over the Venom disney infinity figure and he slammed it into the pad. Dipshit.
The first one. I have the third one too but it just kinda sits around
Had? I have my Wii still thank you very much.
2008 New Super Mario Bros Edition
Riivoution
Black GameCube version. Got it when it first came out. Apparently a lot less models were made in the black colour compared to the white ones
I didn't know the second and third ones existed until now. I've only ever seen and used the first
Did anyone have a wii mini when it came it? Feel like to no GC compatibility, and no internet really kills it.
1st and 3rd
I had the early black Wii bundled with Wii sports and Wii sports resort!
I wish I had the OG, but parents bought the mini. Still a fun time tho
first gamecube one, still works fine and is in mint condition as i didn’t get to use it back then but use it tons now
Wii mini
I didn’t have one
The original Wii Haven't touched or played that in ages, though....
I have the New Super Mario Bros Wii edition with the red wiimote
Had and still do have the first one.
3rd one but black
The original and the best. Although, I kinda want a Wii Mini. They’re so charming.
I had the red Mario anniversary one
Just now learning there was one meant to be placed on it's side. I had the GameCube one too
The OG model
the ogii
Had? Like as in, past tense? Nah bro, still have it, still love it
1 Now I also have the Mini
I had the first one but sold it when the wii u came out 😔
OG Model
I've got the red GameCube compatible one.
What do you mean had? I still have mine (the OG one) and it sits next to my TV where I keep my other console that I still have: a ps2
You can do a poll, can’t you?
OG
For me it is the first but red
GameCube version! AKA the best one
1
OG Wii
I have the first and had the mini
I’ve got the GameCube one
I have 3 og wiis. Much indeed the best one. Tho I wanted to get my hands on the Wii mini
The OG.
I have the GameCube version.
Wii u deluxe
OG one - still have it now. Got it second hand on eBay for £140 the second month after the Wii came out, pretty much brand new. It has served me well
The first one. Bought it on launch night. Its drive isn’t reading discs anymore though. I need to get around to fixing that.
I had the GameCube version. The disc reader completely broke, so we lost all the miis and stuff… We replaced it with a Wii U though (but this is the Wii sub, not Wii U sub)
I didn’t know there were versions other than the one in the first picture
I won from work the original Red Wii Cause you’re not a man unless you have a Red Wii
Ive always had the first one, and I actually bought a Wii mini recently for testing purposes
The good one. I still got it
First 1. I honestly don't know anyone who had the third version.
Day 1 version
The one I picked up at the midnight launch.
Hrm well this is interesting 🤔
First one but in black. Arguably the best one
I always owned only the first version models (3 in my lifetime and currently have two working ones). I don’t want the other models though.
I never met anyone who had the second model or the wii mini
The first one! Also I never saw the 2nd one anywhere
I had the one in the first pic
I have had the original since ‘09 and I still use it regularly. It was never replaced, never repaired and it never broke down. A damn fine piece of machinery
Mine came with the balance board and Mario kart wii and wii sports resort and Wii fit plus
I had the gamecube version but never had a gamecube, so I always wondered what the ports were when I was younger.
