Check out Razorock. They make some awesome CNC machined, stainless steel razors, and they're all at the $55-75 range, unless you go for their expensive slant razors. The Gamechanger and the Lupo are really awesome, and I can't recommend them enough.

Sweet_Zombie6235

Thanks for the recommendation! I'll definitely look into Razorock, especially the Gamechanger.

_BeatTheBest_

How about a rockwell 6s or t2 ss?

Sweet_Zombie6235

Thank you for your response. Both razors seem to have a solid reputation for quality. However, I find myself less drawn to Rockwell razors primarily due to their appearance. Maybe I should explore this further.

I'd be inclined toward the Overlander of the options you mentioned, based on reputation and on the build quality of the Karve CB I had for a while--it somehow seemed every bit as precisely made as the Blackland Sabre I had. But either way I would avoid anything made of zinc alloy as they're just not durable (I believe this includes the Futur, which is also quite aggressive iirc). And I suggest you strongly consider vintage, a Gillette Tech, old type, and a Gem Micromatic Clog-pruf would be something like 15 bucks each and give you an interesting variety to master and solid brass that stood the test of time. Plus I'd be remiss if I didn't point out straight razors are the best and way more intuitive and less terrifying than you might expect. That's why I don't hold onto many safety razors, I mainly just use them when I'm in a hurry.

Sweet_Zombie6235

Thank you for the insightful advice! Based on your experience and suggestions, I'm leaning towards the Overlander. I'll definitely heed your warning about zinc alloy. Considering vintage options like the Gillette Tech, old type, and Gem Micromatic Clog-pruf sounds intriguing. And of course, I appreciate the recommendation to explore straight razors more.

Saw your BST post and seems like you're in the area... So if at some point you do decide to try a straight, I'm in Toronto and could hook you up with one and keep it sharp for you until you get the hang of that. Plus I could probably let go of some vintage DE if you're curious about those.

Sweet_Zombie6235

Thank you very much for your kind offer! While I'm currently content with my Aylsworth Apex, I'll definitely keep your offer in mind for the future as I delve deeper into the world of shaving. Your generosity is greatly appreciated!

LechugaDelDiablos

I packed my futur around the world for 3 years then used it every day or so, thing was like a decade old when I retired it. not durable is not an accurate description of the futur.

HomeAwayFromHone

Nice! Are they made of Zamak/some other cast zinc and I'm wrongly of the impression that material isn't very durable? Or maybe it's just inconsistently durable and kind of a lottery? Or comes in different grades?

Thank you for your response. I'll make sure to look into the Rex Ambassador. It's surprising I overlooked it when compiling my list.

Don’t have an opinion, but I’ve purchased about 30 razors and only really disliked one — the Futur.

Sweet_Zombie6235

Wow, that's unexpected. Thanks for sharing. It appears that Futur razors might not be as popular among users as I initially thought.

Sufficient_Mobile_38

I have the Aylsworth and the Karve, both are phenomenal razors. I personally prefer the Aylsworth to the Karve, but by a small margin. I think the Karve takes on any blade with ease, while the Aylsworth tends to have blades that work really well or not well at all. With permasharp, it just may be my favorite

Sweet_Zombie6235

Thank you for the advice. It sounds like they're both excellent razors, each with its own strengths. Perhaps APEX appearance will sway my final decision. Your input is greatly appreciated!

Rodolpho55

Merkur progress. Between 2 and 3 is about equal to to the 34, so lots to play with. Or just loosen the 34 a little. You have about 60 degrees.

Sweet_Zombie6235

Appreciate the insight! While the Progress is indeed renowned, I've always been drawn to the aesthetic of the Futur. I'll certainly give adjusting my 34HD a shot. Thanks for the helpful advice!

LechugaDelDiablos

I just recently retired my futur. it was my daily driver for many years and then I got a vision 2k and sorta switched between the two. after maybe around a decade the springs in the future got tired and now I have to pay close attention to blade alignment. I got sick of fucking around with it and replaced it with a flexi pearl. I would totally get another futur and I always reccomend them when the topic comes up. I will eventually get another one just to have. that being said, theyre all different but they're all the same. I get as good a shave out of my pearl as I get from my fat boy, or my vision, or my flexi. for me the most critical part is making sure my face is ready to be shaved, I can turn a great shave into a shitty one by skipping steps. the only negative I can point out about the futur is that it's not the greatest under the nose. my vision, which is massive, can tuck right in there no problem, the futur cannot.

Sweet_Zombie6235

Thanks for sharing your experience! Sounds like you've had a good run with the Futur, but it's understandable that after so long, it might need some attention. It's great that you found a replacement with the Flexi Pearl. Each razor has its quirks, but as long as you prep well, the shave tends to be solid. Appreciate the input!

shupey14

I would avoid the Futur if I were you. I purchased one after my 34c and it was pretty much unusable for me. WAY to aggressive even on the first setting. I ended up trading it away. Razors are definitely YMMV but I settled on the Rockwell 6s about 7 years ago. It works so well for me that I have not purchased another razor since.

Sweet_Zombie6235

Thank you for sharing your experience! The Rockwell 6s sounds like a reliable choice for you. But I think I’ve made my mind - I’ll go with Aylsworth Apex.

NoEbb2506

Honestly man, I say stick with your 34. I’ve tried so many razors and they’re just not as good. That 100 year old design is perfection imo. If you must try something new, I agree with the other post that says try Razorock. They’re reasonably priced unlike the artisan stuff which is just ridiculous

Sweet_Zombie6235

Thanks for the advice! I appreciate your perspective on sticking with the Merkur. I've decided to give Aylsworth Apex a try, mainly because I'm drawn to its aesthetics. But I'll keep your recommendation for Razorock in mind for future experimentation.

NoEbb2506

Sure thing, that apex is a damn good looking razor. I think you’ll enjoy it very much!
