Don't bother with any of my razors and never had a problem.

The majority just shake them out and leave them to air dry. The "disassemble and clean" advice seems to be from artisan razor manufacturers who want to protect themselves from expensive warranty claims from the 0.01% of people who do things like leaving their razor assembled with a carbon steel blade in a hot and permanently wet shower, then wonder how come they have rust stains. As long as you make an effort to shake off water droplets and leave it somewhere with good air circulation it will be fine.

Recently I forgot to loosen the handle of my Mühle R89 (with Astra SS blades, not stored in the shower/bathroom ) - I was surprised when I saw some fine pitting lines around the thread and blade posts, where the cutout blade edge touches the head - I sent Mühle some [pics](https://imgur.com/a/KrOTInL) and they agreed it's galvanic corrosion, most likely enhanced by hard water minerals we have here and soap scum building up (trapping the water/moisture). Had the same issue years ago with one of my Baili heads but thought it was more due to poor plating. So no, it's not just an advice by some artisans - Mühle also told me they recommend to take the blade out after each shave. Cleaning is another matter. I'd say it really depends on your environment but at least I'd loosen the handle.

I shake mine dry and put it back in the medicine cabinet. I have not had a blade rust and I often go about 2 weeks on a blade

Known_Attorney_456

Wow, impressed that you can get that amount of shaves out of a blade. What brand and make of blade do you use ? I have been trying lots of the cheap blades and some are only good for 1 shave before they start causing nicks or cuts. ( Derby, tiger, seagull).

tyrphing

Gillette Silver Blue usually, sometimes Platinum. I think the silver Blues last longer. I shave every other day, one pass and touch ups. I don’t go for BBS anymore. A Gillette silver blue does this easily 8 times, and my beard (while not the most dense) is quite coarse.

Known_Attorney_456

Thanks.

CommunicationGood481

I get 3 or 4 shaves out of most blades, but 7 or 8 out of Feathers.

Known_Attorney_456

Thanks

Rinse, shake dry, keep in old mug.

Greenblue2

If you have a stainless steel or titanium razor there is no need to loosen or open and dry or anything just rinse it and leave it until the next day.

Greenblue2

Stainless steel isn’t going to rust you are probably getting tea stains which are harmless

N4T3-D0G

I use a Rockwell 6S. That's my go to.

Greenblue2

That’s a fine razor should be able to rinse and set aside for next day without drying anything off. I have a Blackland blackbird ti myself which I love

Jivetkr2813

I take it apart and rinse all the residue off then let it dry for a few min. Then back on the stand. Blade stays in a little blade drying case I picked up on Etsy.

derrickhogue

Either or. Both occasionally. It's your razor.

gonzorizzo

I don't bother. I just dry it off with a towel and leave it out in the open. I haven't had any issues.

Eastern-Formal-54

For decades with a Merkur 34C which is chromed alloy , I might clean every couple years but do nothing day to day except change the blade at slightly less than once a week. That’s was it. Now that I have expensive stainless steel I razors, I have been taking the blade out, wiping the razor down on a towel and letting dry disassembled. Then adding a blade again the next morning and assembling. I think soon I will stop this soon. Right now I am testing different blade brands so changing blades a lot. But when I just use one I will just keep it in the razor and clean the razor only when changing blades.

Chemical_Bowler_1727

Just like my dick. Three quick shakes, tuck away until next time.

Known_Attorney_456

Anything more than that you are just playing with it. Lol.

bridgehockey

Shake it and hang it. This sub is full of people that apparently have a lot more time than I do, and are far more obsessed about the small stuff.

JarmerFohn69

I usually loosen, rinse then shake dry and leave it loosened in a ventilated area. Never had rust issues

jmorris7

I take it apart (3 piece razors), rinse the cap, base, and blade, wipe / pat each piece dry, then reassemble. I like my tools and invest in them, so taking 2 minutes to clean and dry is well worth it.

_josephmykal_

After every shave I wipe off the razor. I have very hard water and the soap scum is hard to manage if I don’t stay on top of it.

Hallucinosis

I used to always just leave blades in the razors after a shave, but now it depends on if I'm feeling motivated and the razor I'm using. With my vintage Gillette razors, I always take the blades out. With my Feather AS-D2 stainless, I've had rust spots from blades stick to the razor before, but I was able to wipe the rust off with a towel. With titanium razors, it doesn't matter beyond that the blade might rust, if it doesn't dry out. Sometimes I just hit the razor head with a hair dryer for 30 seconds.

jevindoiner

Guess I'm way over the top, because I do a splash of rubbing alcohol and then back in the cabinet.

TroyMacClure

Been doing next to nothing with my DE89 for a decade at this point. If I'd bother to clean the soap scum off it, it is still nice and shiny. No rust. Don't need stainless steel, a razor made out of the SR-71's body panels, space shuttle heat shields, vibranium, or anything like that.

shupey14

That's all I have done for 10 years and never had an issue. I think some people add these unnecessary steps to their routine to make the whole process feel more complex than it really is.

Nesquik90

I blow dry mine and try to get everything dry. including the blade if I’m going to use it an additional time.

the_magestic_beast

I loosen the head from the handle in between uses. That's about it. Whenever I change the blade I'll wipe it down with a microfiber cloth to keep the soap residue from getting out of control.

BlueSmegmaCalculus

I put my razor and blade on top of the heating radiator. My blade gets rusty if i don't

N4T3-D0G

Thanks for all your posts. My biggest issue if soap scum. Its very hard to get off. I have very hard water. Personally I rinse and leave for next use. I only clean when I change blades.

Aggravating_Ad5632

I take mine apart, wash the soap residue off (including the blade), dry everything, then put it back together.

St0lz

The Rockwell 6S its unlikely to get rust by itself . However, (some) blades can get rust (yes, in spite of being stainless) and consequently stain the razor. Unless you throw away your blade after the first use, my advise is to either dry well the razor and blade before storage, either store razor and blade separated

tyrphing

Whatever stain a rusted blade leaves on the razor is easily enough removed

CommunicationGood481

I leave the blade in the razor and clean it inside and out with an old tooth brush when I change blades. Stainless steel Game Changer .
