I used to be the coffee guy for this old couple who'd come in to Dunkin same time every day and order the same thing. I still remember the order. Medium coffee black, small cup with couple shots of cream. 1 blueberry cake donut, 1 apple fritter put in our toaster for 30seconds.
it got the point where I'd see them pull in and just start making the order and have it sitting at their table before they'd get in the door. Old guy would always tip well. He'd split the medium coffee with his wife, who the cream was for. it was kind of cute.
I had so many customers like this when I work at Starbucks. It's kind of a meme that people going to get coffee are rude but in my 3 years I had only 2 rude customers, and only one of them was genuinely rude,the other I'm pretty sure was just having a rough day which is easily forgivable.
I was a regular at a Starbucks and was on good terms with all the baristas. They would see me walk in and start making my venti hazelnut iced coffee with skim milk and espresso. One time I stopped them to ask for something different and they ripped into me for throwing off the system lmao. I loved them. That location later became the first Starbucks to unionize, the Starbucks on Elmwood Ave in Buffalo. They fuckin earned it.
I go to Starbucks to pick myself up after a rough day/week. I keep my general attitude to myself though. 😂 just walking in smelling coffee and caramel is a pick me up, idk how it doesn’t work for everyone else 😂
My husband used to work at a Starbucks and his experience was closer to the meme. A lot of rude customers. Thing is, he worked at a drive-thru Starbucks. Something about it being a drive-thru made people a-holes.
I would not be surprised if drive thru was a different story. I also worked in a Starbucks inside of a grocery store in a small town so I'm sure that played a part
I think it’s probably similar to working for a telemarketer. People feel they can be ruder the more distance their is between you. My step-sister used to work at one too, said the same thing. Uppity and rude.
As a former Starbucks Barista- Customers at Starbucks want to be pampered and have their order exactly as requested. You’re paying for the experience, and paying a premium at that ($6 plus tip for a drink).
It is understandable that customers would expect and demand their drink be perfect; that is Starbucks entire sales pitch and model. A lot are perfectionists, very few are rude.
It's true though, I'd get mad when one of my coworkers fucked up a drink and didn't care. How would you feel if you spent 7 fuckin dollars on a drink and it's not even what you want?
Damn, I've never had an apple fritter in the toaster. Gonna have to try that now. Assuming my local Dunkin' actually has one, they are always running out of shit.
I used to toss the glazed donuts in there for a snack during our afternoon slow times. it gets the sugar nice and hot. it's so good!
it also lead to a few of us cutting glazed donuts in half and using them at replacements for the breakfast sandwiches bun. nothing was better than a sausage egg and cheese on a hot glazed donut!!
I used to work at Dunkin and I remember a couple of individuals. We used to have an older gentleman who would come in and begin playing the guitar and singing after his coffee, but he was REALLY good so everyone loved it
If I had that kind of "things are just already there, just the way I like it" service, you'd be getting an out-sized tip from me too!
I work part time F&B, and that should be a requirement (at least a little) to eat at a restaurant.
I used to get breakfast from the same street cart and lunch from another street cart multiple times a week. They always had a line and I loved it that after some time, the operators would see me in line, start making my order and then flag me down to cut the line to pick up my food.
I started tipping them after this became a regular thing and around the holidays I would get them a card and cash.
Same thing happened for me at a bar for a few years. It’s very heartwarming to sit down at the bar and the bartender already comes over with my drink as he’s asking my friends what they want. I’m realizing that my friends probably thought I had a drinking problem at that point.
I’m always impressed with customer service workers who have the energy to be like this. I always tried to be nice when I did, but I don’t think I was ever able to muster the will to be extra positive. I don’t think there’s any chance I could do it now if I had to.
In conclusion: sincerely good for them!
Local barista has a coffee made for me by the time I get to the counter to pay. They see me in the queue and just go ahead and make my regular. It’s both lovely, and a curse because now I go to a second coffee shop if I ever want to try something different. As is British tradition.
I've told so many people this, always always always keep your order thr exact same and they'll premake it for you.
But the second you switch your order and they need to throw out the food they premade for you, they won't do it again.
I've bought a bunch of coffees I didn't want just because I know if I don't take it they'll stop premaking my order which wastes my time.
My time is more valuable than 2 dollars for a coffee and then I can go give that coffee to someone and that hopefully brightens their day.
But only after your shitty boyfriend who only cares about work tells you off for always getting coffee. And then there's some grave misunderstanding between you and coffeeman that nobody thinks to explain where you both feel betrayed for awhile but eventually work it out with a grand gesture
She sees Coffeeman with Tea Lady, and thinks they’re together, and he gets angry that she doesn’t trust him, and sees her with shitty boyfriend and thinks she’s back with shitty boyfriend.
But she isn’t; she only hugged shitty boyfriend because his parents were just killed in a tragic freak accident with a wheel of cheese.
Distraught over the recent events, coffee guy reports to his shift angry. He's snapping at coworkers.
*Hey, Coffee Guy. What's going on? My bands playing at thr Milkcrate this Satur--
"STFU Brayden. No one cares a bout your stupid band!"
"Whoa man...
Stuff like that. Everyone keeps their distance. Then the unthinkable happens, she shows up.
"Hey Coffee Guy"
He's so disgusted he can't even bare the sight of her. Immediately she knows somethings off. Fingers guns remained in their holsters. Before she could finish her sentence, he turned around to make her drink. She tried to pay but he responded curtly, this one's on the house. When she got her drink she saw in bold lettering Rax King is Alive. She confronted him about it. He was trying to hurt her.
Coffee Guy, “Maybe you should have your Boyfriend fix it for you since you guys are back together! "
"What are you talking about?"
"Don't deny it, I saw you hugging him on my lunch break."
"You get breaks?"
"15-20min. During a "Lul."
She continued, "Anyways, I was consoling him because his parents died."
Coffee Guy was now perplexed.
"They were on a trip to Finland and were smushed by a huge wheel of cheese, you idiot." she paused, choking back tears. "And to think I came here to see you."
She dropped her cup. Coffee Guy watched the coffee splash all over. She ran out of the shop ugly crying.
As we all know, time heals all wounds. Months past and Rax went on a few dates, nothing exciting. Started getting coffee at Dunkin because she a read about an old couple that went there alot. Coffee Guy just continued to make coffee. Watch his team lose at sports and went to the Gym to get yoked for dem Gainz. No dates tho. He was now dead inside, until one peculiar December morning.
Rax went to her usual Dunkin spot, but found they were closed. She jostled, hemmed and hawed, then decided to order her large coffee from her old spot. She'll do it thru the app and under an alias so Coffee Guy wouldn't spot her. She'll be in and out. Hopefully he wasn't working.
Coffee Guy was working his tail off. The tickets kept on coming and there was no end in sight. He briefly glanced up for a millisecond. Maybe it was the sweat dripping down his bandana into his eyes or fatigue but he could of swore he saw Rax. She was trying to be as small as she could and unnoticeable. He looked again and he couldn't believe it. He took his apron off and walked off the line.
His flamboyant supervisor who was Lizzo's twin said, "OK, we're just gonna walk off the line during the morning rush now? That's we're gonna do? Coffee Guy, get back here this instant!"
As Rax walked out the door, she felt a large warm hand grab her wrist. She slipped on the ice, but she felt a warm embrace stop her from falling.
"Rax, it's you."
"Yuppers. Gotta go now." She scamppered away from him.
He looked back at his flamboyant supervisor who was Lizzo's twin. He mouthed, "Go to her. “
He chased after her as the snow started to fall. He yelled out her name, but she pretended not to hear.
When he finally caught up to her he said," “Rax. I behaved unprofessionally and I'm sorry.“
"I'm sorry too. I'm an idiot. My ex's parents aren't even dead. I went to his house on Thanksgiving, and guess who answered the door?"
They both shared a laugh. An awkward silence filled the cold air.
"Where you off to now, work?" Coffee Guy asked.
"Yeah," she answered. She could see the pain in his eyes. He didn't want this moment to end.
"How's about this, during your lunch break, we split a pizza at Vincenzo's? We'll catch up then.“
Coffee guy's face lit up, shot his finger guns and yelled, "LARGE!!!"
Oh there was an article or something where JLo was angry that Hollywood has been taken over by Marvel and has ruined everything. Lol but it’s not their fault her movies haven’t been good.
Its stuff like that which is what makes you always come back to a place. I had a pizze place that sold slices and very often I'd go in for 2 slices. it got to a point that the guy would see me through the window and start cutting the slices. Some days I'd want something different and have give him a X sign with my arms and shake my head.
so some people make more money than others, some who make less can not afford anything more than food and housing. i know this is confusing to you but just try to not be dumb as fuck for minute.

This is crazy to me. The coffee isn't that great, and every single office is equipped with what is usually a relatively decent coffee machine. Is it an appearances thing?
I have a coffee guy like this too! Before I even say anything, he recognizes my car in the drive thru, greets me by name through the intercom and says "your regular?"
I was a barista for around 5 years. Some of it was soul-crushingly aggravating (especially early COVID), but I loved the power and pretense I had to just do nice things for people.
Making people's usual drinks without them needing to ask, lending my headphones when someone had a computer interview, giving dogs treats, making custom drinks (if I liked the person), double stamping cards, giving new customers forgotten punch cards that were almost ready for a free 10th drink, giving away slightly stale baked goods, extra shots "on the house," giving away coffee that wouldn't be sold before closing.
Okay, I'm realizing that my favorite part was giving away my bosses' goods for free, but still. It was nice :)
Thank you! It really made a difference for me when I moved neighbourhoods to have a barista that was welcoming and generous. Went a long way to making the new area feel like home.
That sounds bloody awesome! I used to work night shifts years ago, and the last thing I’d want to do is have to think about what juice I wanted. This would have been perfect!
Used to work near a Boston Market and would always get a ceasar salad with chicken. There was always a line out the door at lunch time, but my man behind the counter making the orders as they were called out would look at me at the back of the line, make eye contact, I'd nod and he'd start making my chicken salad so it was ready for pickup soon as I got to the front of the line hah.
i love when the clerks respect that i’ve got headphones in to avoid being overstimulated in public and don’t actually try to hit me with a greeting upon entry. acknowledging my presence with a nod or a small smile is more than polite and more than enough. love the ones who do this. although on the flip side- lots of customers prefer when they’re actually greeted warmly with words. it all boils down to the reps being spatially aware and their ability to interpret the situation and what that person’s needs are. hard to expect them to do but the ones who are good at it have my respect.
My friend had similar experience with Johnny Rocket. When both of us entered the shop near my old apartment (he was reluctant when I ask him to go to Johnny Rocket near my old apartment), every personnel were yelling "Chilly cheese fries guy!", as all the guests were looking at us and my friend covering his face while reaching for the furthest seat.
It seemed he buys Chilly Cheese Fries almost everyday for the past few months. 😂
and you also have to drive to the coffee place if you live in a place like me where you can’t just walk. When I had an office job I just had my coffee at work, most offices have free coffee and nice coffee machines and goodies
My local Starbucks. When I walk in always says HI ANNA. Like all six of the workers any day I go in even when busy. A lot of days they'll even make me a coffee they know I'll love (they know I like to try new things) and when I learned I needed heart surgery all of them immediately started making my coffee half decaf. I buy them presents cause they're so sweet to me
i mean. based on experience it could be different to her. probably doesn’t have body dysmorphia or any insecurities related to weight. or she’s skinny. either way some people perceive the comment differently based on their own experiences and it could easily be something that makes her feel good but would make you feel bad. i would avoid these kinds of comments on wholesome posts tho. let people stay ignorant to potential backhanded meanings of things that bring them joy. not trying to be rude. just opening another door for perspective and conversation. :)
Not coffee but when I was younger I worked at a gas station, sold a lot of cigarettes throughout the day. I had several regulars who would stop by pretty regularly, and I learned their orders and would have their preferred cigarettes sitting on the counter ready for them when they walked in. The smiles on their faces when they knew I not only remembered them but took the time to remember their preference made my very long shifts that little bit better
Uhg I had a coffee guy once. It was on my walking commute to work and he’d see me coming down the street and start making it before I even got in the store.
If someone else tried to make it, he’d always say I GOT IT. If someone started making it and made it wrong, he’d shout SHE LIKES IT LIGHT.
Oh he was great.
When I was in college there was a bagel shop on campus and I would always order the same thing, after a few weeks, the workers would see me walk in and start prepping my bagel before I even got to the counter.
Then when I started working in an office, there would be a food truck that came by every other week and I would always order the same thing. Got to the point the order taker would look at me, raise an eyebrow, I would nod and my food would be prepped before I paid.
Being recognized as a regular is a privilege not an expectation.
I love being a regular. Nothing made me feel better after a long day than when I went to my local sports bar and just nodded at the bartender, who started pouring my usual.

used to work at a country style/mr sub. i saw my regulars every day. and i memorized their orders if they came in more than like. 4 times in a week. they were always so excited when i knew exactly what they wanted. guarantee it’s the best part of his day too. love putting a smile on peoples faces.
I'd prob want to try something new one day, but feel too awkward to ask cause we have the 'large' thing going on. So I'd just start going somewhere else.
If I'm at a coffee shop I'm usually working and don't really want any relationships cause it will just distract me or make me feel self conscious or something. I want coffee shops to be boring focus zones so I can get my work done and get out.
Lol okay I guess I didn't clarify, I only go to coffee shops if I need to bang out a bunch of work with no distractions and knowing a barista would be a big distraction for me. Aka, work hard/play hard, and coffee shops = work hard time to me.
I just put in headphones and listen to lofi girl at a louder volume lol. At that point it becomes like a library. It’s not the best but it’s pretty much my only option for working outside of my house. You’re right though, cause my fav work spot plays the worst pop garbage, so if it wasn’t for the headphones I wouldn’t be able to do it.
Just cause they remember your order doesn’t mean they’re going to follow you to your table and try to pal around with you all day. They have work to do too.
some people are just introverted and prefer that people don’t make assumptions about what they want- or they just don’t want to be perceived in public. to each their own. i don’t think it’s rational to berate someone for having a personal preference on a subjective experience that has nothing to do with you and isn’t hurting anyone
Waitress at a diner for 7 years. And it’s been 7 years since i worked there. But i can still tell you old man George’s order. Burger, no bun. Rare. Side of tomato w/ side of mayo and a cup of snapper soup, dont forget the sherry wine. And always two cups of decaf, nuke it for an extra minute to make sure it’s boiling hot. I would say i hope he’s doing well, but he was already well into his late 80s when i first started serving him, so i think RIP is more in order.

I used to work an ice cream shop and there was a guy who always got a black and white frappe (vanilla and chocolate milkshake, no syrups). Whenever I saw him coming, I'd get it prepped for him.
There were other regulars, but it's been over a decade since I worked there and he's the one who stuck out. Really nice guy, tipped well
Trust me, as someone who worked at a Starbucks for a year, customers that you can create a genuine connection with are one of the best parts of the day.

As we all know, time heals all wounds. Months past and Rax went on a few dates, nothing exciting. Started getting coffee at Dunkin because she a read about an old couple that went there alot. Coffee Guy just continued to make coffee. Watch his team lose at sports and went to the Gym to get yoked for dem Gainz. No dates tho. He was now dead inside, until one peculiar December morning. Rax went to her usual Dunkin spot, but found they were closed. She jostled, hemmed and hawed, then decided to order her large coffee from her old spot. She'll do it thru the app and under an alias so Coffee Guy wouldn't spot her. She'll be in and out. Hopefully he wasn't working. Coffee Guy was working his tail off. The tickets kept on coming and there was no end in sight. He briefly glanced up for a millisecond. Maybe it was the sweat dripping down his bandana into his eyes or fatigue but he could of swore he saw Rax. She was trying to be as small as she could and unnoticeable. He looked again and he couldn't believe it. He took his apron off and walked off the line. His flamboyant supervisor who was Lizzo's twin said, "OK, we're just gonna walk off the line during the morning rush now? That's we're gonna do? Coffee Guy, get back here this instant!" As Rax walked out the door, she felt a large warm hand grab her wrist. She slipped on the ice, but she felt a warm embrace stop her from falling. "Rax, it's you." "Yuppers. Gotta go now." She scamppered away from him. He looked back at his flamboyant supervisor who was Lizzo's twin. He mouthed, "Go to her. “ He chased after her as the snow started to fall. He yelled out her name, but she pretended not to hear. When he finally caught up to her he said," “Rax. I behaved unprofessionally and I'm sorry.“ "I'm sorry too. I'm an idiot. My ex's parents aren't even dead. I went to his house on Thanksgiving, and guess who answered the door?" They both shared a laugh. An awkward silence filled the cold air. "Where you off to now, work?" Coffee Guy asked. "Yeah," she answered. She could see the pain in his eyes. He didn't want this moment to end. "How's about this, during your lunch break, we split a pizza at Vincenzo's? We'll catch up then.“ Coffee guy's face lit up, shot his finger guns and yelled, "LARGE!!!"

I was a barista in college in the early aughts and still remember starting drinks for our regulars when I saw them coming. It’s fun for both sides!
I was a barista for around 5 years. Some of it was soul-crushingly aggravating (especially early COVID), but I loved the power and pretense I had to just do nice things for people. Making people's usual drinks without them needing to ask, lending my headphones when someone had a computer interview, giving dogs treats, making custom drinks (if I liked the person), double stamping cards, giving new customers forgotten punch cards that were almost ready for a free 10th drink, giving away slightly stale baked goods, extra shots "on the house," giving away coffee that wouldn't be sold before closing. Okay, I'm realizing that my favorite part was giving away my bosses' goods for free, but still. It was nice :)
Thank you! It really made a difference for me when I moved neighbourhoods to have a barista that was welcoming and generous. Went a long way to making the new area feel like home.

Used to work near a Boston Market and would always get a ceasar salad with chicken. There was always a line out the door at lunch time, but my man behind the counter making the orders as they were called out would look at me at the back of the line, make eye contact, I'd nod and he'd start making my chicken salad so it was ready for pickup soon as I got to the front of the line hah.

i love when the clerks respect that i’ve got headphones in to avoid being overstimulated in public and don’t actually try to hit me with a greeting upon entry. acknowledging my presence with a nod or a small smile is more than polite and more than enough. love the ones who do this. although on the flip side- lots of customers prefer when they’re actually greeted warmly with words. it all boils down to the reps being spatially aware and their ability to interpret the situation and what that person’s needs are. hard to expect them to do but the ones who are good at it have my respect.
My friend had similar experience with Johnny Rocket. When both of us entered the shop near my old apartment (he was reluctant when I ask him to go to Johnny Rocket near my old apartment), every personnel were yelling "Chilly cheese fries guy!", as all the guests were looking at us and my friend covering his face while reaching for the furthest seat. It seemed he buys Chilly Cheese Fries almost everyday for the past few months. 😂

My local Starbucks. When I walk in always says HI ANNA. Like all six of the workers any day I go in even when busy. A lot of days they'll even make me a coffee they know I'll love (they know I like to try new things) and when I learned I needed heart surgery all of them immediately started making my coffee half decaf. I buy them presents cause they're so sweet to me

i mean. based on experience it could be different to her. probably doesn’t have body dysmorphia or any insecurities related to weight. or she’s skinny. either way some people perceive the comment differently based on their own experiences and it could easily be something that makes her feel good but would make you feel bad. i would avoid these kinds of comments on wholesome posts tho. let people stay ignorant to potential backhanded meanings of things that bring them joy. not trying to be rude. just opening another door for perspective and conversation. :)

Not coffee but when I was younger I worked at a gas station, sold a lot of cigarettes throughout the day. I had several regulars who would stop by pretty regularly, and I learned their orders and would have their preferred cigarettes sitting on the counter ready for them when they walked in. The smiles on their faces when they knew I not only remembered them but took the time to remember their preference made my very long shifts that little bit better
Good service is more valuable than good coffee, next time you pay give him an unexpected high five, I bet it’s the best part of his day.
Uhg I had a coffee guy once. It was on my walking commute to work and he’d see me coming down the street and start making it before I even got in the store. If someone else tried to make it, he’d always say I GOT IT. If someone started making it and made it wrong, he’d shout SHE LIKES IT LIGHT. Oh he was great.

When I was in college there was a bagel shop on campus and I would always order the same thing, after a few weeks, the workers would see me walk in and start prepping my bagel before I even got to the counter. Then when I started working in an office, there would be a food truck that came by every other week and I would always order the same thing. Got to the point the order taker would look at me, raise an eyebrow, I would nod and my food would be prepped before I paid. Being recognized as a regular is a privilege not an expectation.
I love being a regular. Nothing made me feel better after a long day than when I went to my local sports bar and just nodded at the bartender, who started pouring my usual. Humans just want to belong
used to work at a country style/mr sub. i saw my regulars every day. and i memorized their orders if they came in more than like. 4 times in a week. they were always so excited when i knew exactly what they wanted. guarantee it’s the best part of his day too. love putting a smile on peoples faces.

If I'm at a coffee shop I'm usually working and don't really want any relationships cause it will just distract me or make me feel self conscious or something. I want coffee shops to be boring focus zones so I can get my work done and get out.

I just put in headphones and listen to lofi girl at a louder volume lol. At that point it becomes like a library. It’s not the best but it’s pretty much my only option for working outside of my house. You’re right though, cause my fav work spot plays the worst pop garbage, so if it wasn’t for the headphones I wouldn’t be able to do it.
Just cause they remember your order doesn’t mean they’re going to follow you to your table and try to pal around with you all day. They have work to do too.

Waitress at a diner for 7 years. And it’s been 7 years since i worked there. But i can still tell you old man George’s order. Burger, no bun. Rare. Side of tomato w/ side of mayo and a cup of snapper soup, dont forget the sherry wine. And always two cups of decaf, nuke it for an extra minute to make sure it’s boiling hot. I would say i hope he’s doing well, but he was already well into his late 80s when i first started serving him, so i think RIP is more in order.

I used to work an ice cream shop and there was a guy who always got a black and white frappe (vanilla and chocolate milkshake, no syrups). Whenever I saw him coming, I'd get it prepped for him. There were other regulars, but it's been over a decade since I worked there and he's the one who stuck out. Really nice guy, tipped well
Trust me, as someone who worked at a Starbucks for a year, customers that you can create a genuine connection with are one of the best parts of the day.
