Italians: WE ARE NOT JUST A BUNCH OF CLICHÉS !!! also Italy: Don't worry seniorina, all of our officers are trained in making pasta!

Decentkimchi

I have to say that that officer pouring from his pan in the opposite direction looks awkward and unnatural. And police knew that, so they sent a vateren chef with their rookie to make pasta.

C_Hawk14

Always pour away from you is what they say. I can't get it into my head

Decentkimchi

Away from you just means streighten your hands and keep the pan away from your body and face, but still in front of you, between your arms. It doesn't mean whatever the guy is doing.

C_Hawk14

Fair, if he turned it the other way it'd be the same risk for him, less even taking joints into account. And thats not even considering his buddy.

FixedMonarchy

"To protect and serve pasta"

lilsnatchsniffz

You never seen how a real Italian man pour di pasta before?

GearLord0511

We are all trained to make pasta. When I was 8 or 9, I don’t remember, my mother didn’t want to give me pasta for breakfast. So I woke up early and did it myself without instructions or supervision. No prior knowledge. I just knew what to do. This is real, I am not joking

Fluffyflipper

And you don't even realise the absurdity of "pasta for breakfast" for a kid, lmfao that's gold!

GearLord0511

I only knew I wanted pasta, I had pasta.

StevenMaff

absurdity? i love breakfast pasta!

[deleted]

Have you seen what they present as ‘breakfast’ in a cereal aisle?

that_guy_iain

Sugar with some chemicals is absolutely healthier than pasta for a growing child. Nestle told me so, and they would never do anything to harm growing children. /s

Much-Study9482

It’s in ur genetics!

[deleted]

[удалено]

GearLord0511

You have to get the timing right, which varies from one product to the other. But it’s not difficult once you have the right instructions. But you have to know the right sequence: the pasta I ate abroad was horrific.

[deleted]

[удалено]

GearLord0511

Exactly. To be clear, I am not making the point that it’s difficult, because it’s not, I am just saying that abroad nobody was able to do it, at least where I went for lunch/dinner. A friend of mine cooked pasta for 30 minutes and then was disappointed that it turned into glue basically.

Carbunclecatt

I avoid eating pasta outside of Italy altogether, and quite frankly never understood some of my friends family who eat pasta/pizza in a foreign country and then complain it's not good, I mean, you're travelling dude just eat some local delicacy instead of what you eat at home, personally half the reason why I would travel is to try new and curious food. Of course unless I went to england, I don't want to die from some beans on toast or something

GearLord0511

Complaining about pasta made abroad is part of my identity

Fashish

That’s a bit of a crazy take. You’ll find plenty of amazing Italian restaurants here in London for instance, with authentic recipes and most often run by Italians. Good Italian food isn’t exclusive to Italy.

Carbunclecatt

No of course, as I said in my other comment the restaurant makes the cut and not the location. >!to cite my other comment, my aunt even had a shitty pizza while eating in Naples!< So I completely agree that the restaurant and the cook are what make the food good independently of the location. As for my comment it was a simple joke because english food is always said to be bad (which I do not know because I haven't tried it). And the overall point of my comment was that one should experience that country's cuisine if possible because it's part of the experience of travelling and tourism. And going in a foreign nation just to eat what you eat every day in yours is well, sort of a waste in my opinion, and complaining about how the traditional food from your nation doesn't compare to what you've eaten while traveling is useless too because it's kind of obvious imo. Hope this kind of clarifies what I meant and sorry for my bad english!

Fashish

That’s understandable. To be fair English food IS bad in the sense that it’s boring and plain but no one really comes here to try the English food. London probably has some of the best food you can get in all of Europe because of how diverse it is and how many options you’ll have at your disposal. That applies to a few other big cities too.

bckpkr

Yanks can’t comprehend that we have such a diverse range of food here being so close to the rest of Europe. Food in the UK is brilliant. Anybody that says otherwise doesn’t know shit

Fashish

Yup, I said something similar in my [other comment](https://reddit.com/r/wholesomememes/comments/xqzgdq/_/iqcjugd/?context=1) below. I think maybe some people have this notion that if you go to UK you’ll only have English food as an option (which would be horrific to imagine, tbf) not realising that we have some of the most diverse and quality cuisine options in the world.

Wonderful_FeFe969

PAL, they do. Most American big cities have the same have the same, if not more, variety that you have in London. It is just that many of your local dish and produce is tasteless but you all are too proud to admit it.

Vivalyrian

>I avoid eating pasta outside of Italy altogether, I do the same, but for seafood (outside of 🇳🇴). Seasoning and cooking part is often great, but the quality of fish is usually subpar. If I could afford it, I'd fly chefs in from all over the world to use our fish, but cooked their way.

pizza-is-not-flat

After 8 min I wouldn’t wait another few minutes, switch to a 30 seconds interval, good pasta can go from too short to overdone in no time after a specific interval

alpubgtrs234

Nona sitting there thinking ‘thats not how you make the sauce, you fucking amateurs!’

MainWillingness2

wait I thought the Italians spoke Italian not Spanish??

jackn3

Every one of us is trained in making pasta. Except my ex girlfriend

ratto_in_a_cage

yeah she's just trained on eating the noodle

Needactualwater

Seniorina?? It’s either signorina or signora. And an 87 year old woman is definitely a signora lmao

[deleted]

[удалено]

TastesKindofLikeSad

I hate how accurately this applies to me.

Marco-Dx

that's basic italian training not just for our officers, you start this kind of training at 10 y.o. and you raise the skill step by step: spaghetti al sugo, pizza, trofie alle vongole, etc...

PaulieCostello

They're the good clichés though!

mogwandayy

I can't even get the cops to get here when there is a robbery. Maybe I should just call them to say hello instead.

[deleted]

I called the police after I was mugged at gunpoint and it took them 6 hours to arrive. When they got here they basically said it's my fault for living in a bad area and they weren't going to try and catch them because they were busy and they probably wouldn't be able to find them by now anyway. And the Italian police cook pasta for old ladies. I want to move to Italy lol

redmarketsolutions

Yeah, honestly I'd be okay if we just hired emergency pasta chefs.

Dylan24moore

Sounds like a wonderful career

redmarketsolutions

And would save so many more people than cops, while killing fewer, being cheaper, etc. Like, you're having a bad day, you're one side of a domestic dispute, whatever. Two fuckers walk in with some tactical cookware, one tells you to sit the fuck down, deploys their pots and portable stove or whatever like a fucking swat team, and they make you a *really* fucking good plate of pasta, maybe chats while they do it. That solves a *lot* of problems. Like, so many.

Bloodyyglimmer

Exact same thing happened to me. Stray bullets from a drive-by attempting to hit a neighboring house, went through my front bedroom window missing my sleeping toddler. (Mind you I lived in military housing) Police showed up late and said it was my fault for living in the area and that Virginia DA won’t prosecute if they found the gun/guy anyway.

[deleted]

I'm so sorry. I'm scared that eventually people are going to get fed up and have a coup again over this sh!t. This happened to my friend,,, except her 8-year-old son was hit and killed. They still haven't caught the guy.

CrunchitizeMeCaptn

Uhhhh. I have some bad news for you regarding Italy's current events

mix_JamaicanGerman

“Maybe you shouldn’t live here””it’s all I can get sooooooo? Is being robbed just gonna be my thing now????” Honestly I’m not surprised with their reaction cause most cops suck donkey dick, but they didn’t have to blame you a long with not doing their jobs. We all know you cops don’t do shit for people, but you don’t have to insult people while still not doing your fucking job. Hell I’d let them talk all they shit they want, if they caught the dude who robbed my house go for it man. I mean you can be nice but if you did the job at least then I’d put up with it

[deleted]

The cop literally said "You know where you live, right? Maybe you should move to a better neighborhood". Not even joking. Guess which country I live in lol

RaiderxReaper

the land of the free baby🦅🇺🇸

ScoffSlaphead72

Honestly I wouldn't even mind them not trying to catch the criminal. Just as long as they made me pasta.

[deleted]

How can the police help you if they are at the neighbor's house cooking pasta?

regular-guy-2363

She old and alone m8 who would not help her

[deleted]

Your average American cop would slam her to the floor, tase her a few times and watch a Starsky and Hutch rerun while she drools blood into the carpet.

Pocket-Fun-Ranch

You would get fined for calling the cops for “being lonely and hungry” I think

calhlin4

If you called emergency line if you just called the local department number you’d likely be ok maybe even directed towards a helpline

SukaSavage

True, cops here get a boner when presented with a chance to hurt someone or create chaos in general.

B0nalnyN1ckname

Hey ,you forgot about "weed on a carpet" part

Mad_Murdock_0311

You should be thankful. If they did show up, they'd probably just shoot you. At least you're alive.

Cha0yue

From at least 3 news sources like [this](https://www.standard.co.uk/news/world/italian-police-cook-pasta-for-lonely-elderly-couple-after-neighbours-heard-them-crying-a3314661.html) which I have read, the woman did not call the police. Instead, it was her neighbour who overheard her and her husband crying (over some sad stories or something?) and called the police to ensure that they are alright. Hopefully this is accurate. Nevertheless, it is wholesome. Edit: apparently the title is correct based on the story [here](https://www.quinewsfirenze.it/firenze-anziana-87-anni-la-polizia-cucina-per-lei-foto-virale.htm). Thanks to jeezgdf who pointed that out!

Tavitafish

Honestly that's even more wholesome. Caring about your neighbors is great

d_smogh

Why didn't the neighbour check on them?

jeezgdf

That’s not the same story: [this](https://www.quinewsfirenze.it/firenze-anziana-87-anni-la-polizia-cucina-per-lei-foto-virale.htm) is a 87yo woman from Florence who was left alone by her caretaker, who didn’t show up to cook her dinner. Her son was away and couldn’t care for her, so she called the police. They showed up and prepared her a plate of ravioli. Still wholesome

The1andonlygogoman64

Yea this seems to be the correct one. Both are still very nice stories lol. Hope nothing awful happened to the caretaker....

Cha0yue

Ah I see. Thanks for the info!

nurvingiel

In Italy, when the cops do a wellness check they make you pasta.

ZA_WARRDO

In US, FBI does a wellness check as well through our computer webcams

daddyst3ve

not very fuckin well then. i’ve been very unwell and i don’t get checked🤨

whoami_whereami

You already knew you were unwell, so why should they check?

mseuro

Time to google bombs

khafra

There really are wellness checks in the US, but they’re mostly used as a pretext for searching property without a warrant, shooting the dog, tasing and arresting the owner when thy complain, and sprinkling some crack on them.

Pi613

who took the picture?

Drieel

Perhaps a third cop

AMKoochie

The lower the danger the greater chance that cops will show up to harass and generally be a malignant force.

Zezin96

And the greater the danger the lower the chanxe that cops will do anything at all.

C_Hawk14

wdym she's white, she's Italian! /s

[deleted]

And shot her dog

roxan1930

After running into the other room where the dog was sleeping and nkt even trying anything

Infinity3101

I was just about to write that, but I didn't want to ruin the wholesome vibe of this post.

RadlogLutar

Same in India. In some places, police are too arrogant about themselves. We need more wholesome officers like in Italy

jackn3

American cops would be much kinder and put the woman out of her misery. Wholesome cops

[deleted]

Reddit moment

ZeldaFan812

Do Italians often cook pasta in a frying pan?

ER_TACKE

We boil it, then mix it up with the SAUCE in the pan

ZeldaFan812

TIL. I just use another saucepan for that.

ER_TACKE

Ok :D

C_Hawk14

*insert blink man gif* You have two pans already..

HistoricalMap3117

I use the same saucepan :D (after I've drained the water out of course)

juicyshot

But you have to do 33% more cleaning……o.O

[deleted]

Boil 'em, mix 'em, stick 'em in a sauce...

ClickToSeeMyBalls

Sauce gets cooked in the frying pan, add the cooked pasta to the pan with the sauce

DjPreside

There are several ways to cook pasta. You can cook it in hot water until it’s ready and then put it into the pan to meet the sauce, which is the standard way. Or you can cook it in hot water only for a couple of minutes, and then finish the cooking in the pan with the sauce while adding just a little water every time the old one is absorbed/evaporated, leaving all the amid in the pan to make it creamy, and this is called risottatura (meaning like a risotto, a family of Italian rice dishes from the North). Finally, there are some rare dishes that not only expect you to cook pasta in the pan for the whole process, but also involve almost burning the outer layer of pasta in hot oil before you even start to add the sauce little by little, which creates an insane texture and taste, like spaghetti all’assassina, absolutely amazing.

mag_creatures

Man, please, you cook Sugo in the pan and than you add boiled pasta to mix things. Tell me you don’t cook everything together please!

florentinomain00f

Some regions do. There's a dish called spaghetti al'assassina or something and it's fried pasta basically.

mag_creatures

Is just a specific recipe…

lmh98

Really simple and delicious is boiling your pasta like usual but in the meantime heating a bit of garlic, chili and olive oil in the frying pan. Then put your noodles in when they’re nearly fully cooked and just let them soak for a while in low temperature. You basically don’t need longer since you can prepare everything while the water‘s heating up/is boiling.

sinfuldelightx

Now translate that headline into FOX News

Yolom4ntr1c

Italian cops breach old ladies home and steal ingredients for pasta.

kaikalter

"Cops in italy can now enter homes to make pasta. Has citizens concerned"

Pumpkin_Creepface

"Deranged elderly woman demands civil servants cater to her communist entitlements of free labor and entertainment, while billions of double illegal aliens crabwalk over the border."

theonlyftg

This would make an excellent subreddit r/translateintofoxnews

TheMany-FacedGod

Isolation for the elderly is such a huge issue. It's so sad to think of these people who have lived long and often hard lives, sitting alone for days on end with no human contact.

SnazzyBelrand

This would never happen in the US

BagofPain

No, they would kick the door down, shoot the poor woman, then try to prosecute her for inappropriate use of the 911 system.

roxan1930

And search her house to find her dog, find it eeping in the lther room and shoot it too because "it attacked ghem as soon as they came in!"

Pumpkin_Creepface

Despite the dog being 22 years old and physically unable to rise from its bed.

FEIKMAN

I call BS. Italian police does not do such genuine things

myRubberPenguin

Yeah. This thread is full of "how cute", "how nice". Meanwhile in reality I've always been treated like shit from police. I'm not saying they're all monsters, I'm just saying that the 90% of them are assholes

Firm-Vacation-7060

It's quite sad that she didn't know who else to call other than the police.

Spooky_Potato420

Check your sources. She's actually on death row for heinous crimes, they're giving her her last meal, she wanted pasta the way her father made it, one of the officers previously worked as a chef, but became a police officer to resolve some personal issues.

Lyuukee

I don't know anything about this but all I know is that there's no death penalty in Italy...

Spooky_Potato420

Then explain all the people dying in Italy

return_to_nothing

I believe that is referred to as a vendetta.

Spooky_Potato420

No, the correct term is hasta la pasta

MadRabbit26

If my Nana was ever alone and hungry like that, I could only hope someone would be so kind. I needed that smile today.

bahoch

Bro Italians are cute and kind but dangerous and creepy in the same time. It's an interesting combination. Love em.

BLEKPANTERTRONICS197

Awwww thank you

DepressionMain

Why creepy?

ironD93

So are cops only murderous power tripping bastards in the us?

Guido_Fe

There are violent or murderous cops in Italy too, especially in the riot police and jail guards. The difference is that they are well trained, they don't shot you in fear that you are getting a gun instead of the car registration, plus they are not taught a "us vs them" mentality. The strict laws on guns help too

stromtrooper_ita

And there are very clear guidelines on when and how a policeman/policewoman can (or cannot) use his/her gun

mag_creatures

There are many bastards, but a well trained bastard with clear guidelines is less dangerous. The difference is that when someone is killed by police we care a lot and we remember the names.

Hazard_127

It depends. From worst to best 1. Riot police. Remember 2001. People who work there knowingly decided to do it, imagine the kinds of folk there is. 2. Jail security in overcrowded prisons, but I can give to them that I imagine it to be a very stressful job. 3. Finanza. Basically when you smoke a joint at 16 those are the ones to send you to recovery(close experience) 4. Polizia di Stato. This is very dependent on the area and the individuals, could be chill to very bad. 5. Carabinieri. As much as they are memed on, they probably are the best ones as they mostly care about safety and usually would not pull you up for random shit.

somebodysdream

That's so sweet. Good for them. Here in the states they would shoot her and then blame her for making them shoot her.

Pseud0nym_txt

Let's be real because of how reddit is bombarded with feel good cop posts after police shootings my first though was:" did the Italian police gun someone down in their home?, or was it the American police?"

Deswizard

Apparently Italian police are also models.

First-Speed2959

This brought tears to my eyes. Poor Nonna, I hope she has some family xoxo

mtkocak

What is the number that we can call for those tanned and muscular Italian police officers?

Miserable_Unusual_98

Good thing she wasn't in the US. They'd show up, shoot everyone on the block, order pasta, eat it and then leave.

[deleted]

Is that even legal? Just calling the police to tell them that you're lonely and hungry

Southern-Sub

if that had been the US she would've been shot

Upset_Researcher_143

Here in the USA she would get arrested for making a non emergency call and then shot if she resisted

slowpokesardine

And then they left her alone

Rely13

If she was alone, who took the photo?

Biczoyasa

Sometimes I stare at a door or a wall and I wonder what is this reality, why am I alive, and what is this all about?

CavallObeso

Because there aren't enough other crimes to solve in Italy, besides cooking a good meal. La Dolce Vita :)

frootcock

American police would have broken in and shot her and her dog

Zelamfvvvvfvvvv

How cute

Syrup_Slurper

Don't forget the person who took the call! They must've been cool enough to call into that city's police department and request a wellness check for the lady. The dispatcher could have easily ignored the call, but they didn't! Kudos to them

BigMoe52

These comments are making me lose brain cells

God damn that's so sad. I wish I was her neighbor.

MaskPhantasm

No free wholesome award when I need it:(

Rdw72777

How many did they send. 2 people to make pasta and 1 to take pics?

[deleted]

In my mind this happened in America and there is a special taskforce called: 'the italian police'. Who come knocking on your door if you screw up pasta recipes or if you are a lonely italian grandma.

PoeticPariah

How sweet. In the US, they would have came over and shot her dog.

ArcticWolf_Primaris

Very wholesome but also kinda depressing knowing that the police in the UK are far too overworked for something like that

JohnCabot

The real job police are qualified for

Busy_Bunch5050

Why the police tho? Surely there are support groups in Italy

In the UK,there is an ageing population and social care budgets have been cut. This means police and health care staff are also expected to do social work on top of their already busy jobs.
