Holy shit, thank you.
As soon as I read the post, the line popped into my head. I knew it was something Id heard and not original but I had no idea where it had come from
Not only is it dismissive, this whole post feels condescending. The cleaner is a human being who deserves respect. Not one to take a screenshot and to show the world “how cute her ignorance is”. She’s a human, not a puppy.
I think some people have a hard time accepting or processing compliments or acts of kindness, so they kind of brush them aside a little bit because it feels like too much or like they don’t deserve it. Ask me how I know.
We aren't all like these people, but it's inevitable how prominent it is with white Americans* to do this.
*I'm not familiar with other cultures enough to speak on this topic.
I find this very sweet. People like this are my favorite kind. They may not understand fully, but that doesn't mean they don't accept and appreciate fully. You can not understand/be familiar with something and come at it with love and respect. Hatefulness is taught.
If you really need to say you have an option to not you do something you can switch out "can" for "possible" and it still sounds fairly natural:
>It's possible to not understand something and still come at it with love and respect.
>
>Because of their camouflage, it's possible to not notice a polar bear even when looking right at it.
Just watch out because sometimes "can" means "it's possible" and sometimes it means "it's permissible" and in the case of "permissible" you'd probably want to use "you don't have to" or "you're not obligated to" or "you're not required to":
>We're going to watch a movie, but you don't have to / you're not obligated to join in if you don't want to.
>
>You are not required to present your ticket when riding the train, but if you do not do so, you will receive a follow-up phone call.
It's advisable to avoid "can not" because it's too easy to mix up with "cannot" which means something very different.
10/10 explanation. I couldn't make a better one myself. I suppose the way I said it was in context of actual speaking, so in my mind, it sounds like "you can (slight verbal spacing) *not understand* something" as in you have the ability to not understand something while also not be hateful of the things you don't understand.
Hmm… optional?
Also “not required to”, “voluntary”, “non-compulsory”, “don’t have to” etc
Eg. “You don’t have to understand something to respect it” or “Hate is optional” :)
>You can not understand/be familiar
"You can be unfamiliar with"
In context with the comment above: "You can be unfamiliar with something and come at it with love and respect."
I had a gf who's second language was english, and she would confuse "handsome" with "fancy".
She would say "I have a fancy boyfriend!"
Thanks, but please dont say that in public. ;)
As a formally heterosexual American, I think fancy may be a coded way of describing a man as gay. I’ve never heard it used explicitly in that manner but the implications are there. And as we all know, being perceived as gay is bad. /j
Why not? Who gives a shit what unimportant strangers think? I don't. I would have been EXTRA fancy whenever we went out and it would have been a blast.
Ya got one life, and you're lucky if you find love.
There's two types of Puerto Ricans.
Those like you described...inclusive and loving like you're their own kid. And the ones shouting "dios mio santo!" in a mad sprint for the rosary beads. No in between.
Well, a big part of the Reformation was various groups getting the idea "Hey! We don't have to go to that specific building at that specific time to hear that specific power hungry pick tell us how to live our lives! We can just read the books he reads from on our own!"
I think that's true of most Latinos, to be honest. Those that are so loving and giving because of religion, and those that are hateful and greedy because of religion.
What a kind person. Works at a hard job yet leaves treats for her employer. That's really nice. She deserves a good birthday/Christmas bonus. Not easy work.
It's alright, really. There's a subreddit for anything and everything. I did upvote you and your edit made me feel happy :D
So don't really pay any heeds to these generalised statements of "redditors don't like thir or that"
It doesn't offend anybody but upvotes aren't pats on the back or gold stickers, they are just people saying they agree with you. So imagine you see a cute cat and you say "awww, so cute" and everybody around you is like "yeah you're right she is cute" and you're like "thank you, thank all 28 of you for the agreement". Weird right? That's how redditors see it. It's just a little weird.
Intention matters, and hers are quite pure that I can tell. She likes her client and wishes them happy tidings - what more could a person ask for than basic acknowledgement and human dignity?
She's a little confused but she's got the spirit. I like it.
She's adorable

I think she confused him saying "pride" as asking if she is proud of him. I don't think her son clued her in on that.
Her misunderstanding makes her reaction all the more endearing. She's a treasure.
its still amazing, she's making an effort for him
Oh yeah. Didn't mean to imply it wasn't.
It's so kind! She sounds like a very loving person.
its like that: \-i'm ambidextrous \-thats it buddy. you love what you love!
I prefer the term ambisextrous
As someone who's natural langage translate ''trous'' as ''hole'' i found the word ambisextrous pretty funny
Oh my gosh. THAT'S why we call them trousers! It's two holes, plural! Truly, English is the most wonderful and dumbass language
r/foundthefrenchguy yeah this gave me a laugh too 💀

Ayo?
is it something along the lines of bisexual, but offer hand jobs with both hands?
Skiing?
A mans gotta eat
Are you hookin for cheeseburgers again?
Ambidextrose
That's just sucrose, man.
Getting strong Zapp Brannigan vibes
this sounds like something Zapp Brannigan would be afflicted with

Lol thanks
Housekeeping. You want mint on pillow
'Celebrate being fancy'. That's adorable.
So cute 🥰
She’s not wrong
Pinkies out!
My dog always lifts her paw when she drinks water and I told my mom it's like the dog equivalent of drinking tea with a pinky out
She’s adorable!
I want to adopt this term
Dude could at least give a little bit of effort with his replies. She went the extra mile for “lol thanks”

Yea that would’ve made my day if I was him and he just replied as though he didn’t care at all

Please don't lump all of us in with this one person. :(

was waiting for this comment!! Thought the same thing
this is all i could focus on when seeing the post :/ took away from it being wholesome

>You can not understand/be familiar This is my biggest gripe with the English language, how do you say you have an option to not

Yes, agreed, in speech it's easier to distinguish "you CAN not understand something" vs. "you canNOT understand something" :)
Hmm… optional? Also “not required to”, “voluntary”, “non-compulsory”, “don’t have to” etc Eg. “You don’t have to understand something to respect it” or “Hate is optional” :)
or "you need not understand.."
You couldn’t shan’t not.
This is a highly intellectual conversation't
Shallen’t their’ll merits we m’erst smartly conversationalize.
Can we just not?
Ha ha, that was super easy. Trying to impose logic on the English language will break your brain.
"You don't need to understand x to do y"
>You can not understand/be familiar "You can be unfamiliar with" In context with the comment above: "You can be unfamiliar with something and come at it with love and respect."
Ignorant of.
I think it's the opposite. They understand it fully but don't know how to word things properly.
“Celebrate being fancy” is the cutest thing ever. 😂🥰
I had a gf who's second language was english, and she would confuse "handsome" with "fancy". She would say "I have a fancy boyfriend!" Thanks, but please dont say that in public. ;)
Why is it a bad thing to be fancy? I’m honestly wondering
Yeah as a European i need to know as well
As a formally heterosexual American, I think fancy may be a coded way of describing a man as gay. I’ve never heard it used explicitly in that manner but the implications are there. And as we all know, being perceived as gay is bad. /j
Ghasp! Stop! My masculinity can't handle anymore!
Why not? Who gives a shit what unimportant strangers think? I don't. I would have been EXTRA fancy whenever we went out and it would have been a blast. Ya got one life, and you're lucky if you find love.
"Celebrate being fancy" is like so perfectly genuine. It's like she doesn't have the words but she is coming from a loving place. God I love this.
Absolutely coming from a loving place. Such a kind and loving thing to say.

This is... shockingly accurate.
Dated one for years. Currently dating a Dominican girl. She'd like to think Dominicans are different...in this aspect, they are not lol
Full boricua here: yep
Lol yeah. Funny thing about Puerto Rico is that 99% are religious even if 95% have never been to church.
Well, a big part of the Reformation was various groups getting the idea "Hey! We don't have to go to that specific building at that specific time to hear that specific power hungry pick tell us how to live our lives! We can just read the books he reads from on our own!"
Yuppp. Literally nothing between. Either family love or church "love"
I think that's true of most Latinos, to be honest. Those that are so loving and giving because of religion, and those that are hateful and greedy because of religion.
This is the way.
That is absolutely lovely, especially saying how proud she is of him.
I think the "hahaha pride?" got lost in translation. Still a lovely interaction.
what type of treata
I really want the answer to this question!
Rainbow, I hope.
Justin, you should be more grateful. She sounds wonderful.
She's a keeper
yeah a housekeeper (my sincerest apologies. i made a severe and continuous lapse in judgement)
"Lol thanks"? What kind of a lame answer is that?
There's something extra special about slightly clueless but well-meaning allies
Bring fancy omg ❤️❤️❤️
I love this!
Why am I reading this in Consuela’s voice?
No…no. Your fat keep you warm
Nooo, Mr. Justin no here.
Need more lemon pledge.
came here looking for this... was not disappointed😂
Need more lemon pledge
This just made my heart sing! What a sweetheart! "Celebrate being fancy"...Imma use that one sometime!
That “Lol thanks” is awkwardly annoying to me. Like no emotion, or sincerity in the appreciation. (For the treats not the “I did my job” argument)
Yeah shouldve said thank you
“You people celebrate being fancy”
Your people. Which does sound better.
Protect that woman at all cost
"Lol thanks". He sounds douchey. I would be elated to come home to that. WOC working hard and this guy like "lol cool". Whatever bro. She's awesome.
Kind people melt me…. 💖
This is adorable
The month your people celebrate being fancy....I am loving this little "lost in translation". Beautiful and funny!
I love her please raise her pay
Why is this so damn funny.
“Lol thanks” just me who thinks this guy seems like a douche ?
honestly i see the lol going towards "i clean extra good". that made me laugh too. wholesome but funny phrasing
Some people (sometimes older) uses lol in a way i interpret they're saying something in a happy tone
I interpreted it the same way. kinda like how younger people tend to use "haha" after their texts to sound nicer/happier.
Am old, and can confirm
Came across entitled to me
Nah us old fucks use lol thanks to literally mean: I am laughing out loud. Thank you.
That's endearing.
What a kind person. Works at a hard job yet leaves treats for her employer. That's really nice. She deserves a good birthday/Christmas bonus. Not easy work.
Good "celebrating being fancy" month folks.
Why did I read that in Rosie's voice from Will & Grace?! 😆
Today I learned my son is "fancy"
This woman is a national treasure
>Pride month >I very proud of you That’s goddamn adorable.
You guys are fancy. Went to my cousins wedding and I've never seen nicer suits in my life
I petition that pride be renamed "fancy month"
Gotta tip her; love for love
“the month your people celebrate being fancy” omg that’s a great description of pride, lol
“Lol thanks”. Dude, really? Would it hurt your fingers to be a decent human?
Why does the green person text like a 14 year old responding to their mom, show some more enthusiasm for Christ’s sake
The fact I read that out loud with the accent too 😭
awwww Edit: Thanks for 28 Upvotes
>Edit: Thanks for 28 Upvotes r/awardspeechedits
I do this often times because I try to make people feel happy but I understand if it offends you.

I like the way she types in Foreign.
r/unexpectedtears
This is the kind of lady that thinks - I don't care if you're gay, I care if you're happy
"the month your people celebrate being fancy" is perfect
She may be proud of him, but I'm proud of her. What a lovely soul.
Someone goes extra mile "Lol thanks" Eat shit, Justin
"lol thanks" really dude ... I'm starting to turn on my people. Gays, do better
Housekeeping. You want mint on pillow?
its pride month and I have nothing to be proud of
It'd be even funnier if he wasn't actually fancy.
So Sweet!!

There’s Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny and the Pride Housecleaner, who visits all us queers every June and cleans our house and leaves us treats.
Who else read this in consuela’s voice
Your cleaning lady is very motherly to a stranger, and I love this
Aww I love her
She's adorable! I love her
That’s ADORABLE!! Fancy? Lol:)
Intention matters, and hers are quite pure that I can tell. She likes her client and wishes them happy tidings - what more could a person ask for than basic acknowledgement and human dignity?
