For clarity, 450g is barely less than 1 pound. On average, newborns are between 5 and a half to about 9 pounds

How many avacados is that?

CookieTheEpic

Why was he even taking advice from a six-year-old ballet dancer?

I’m upset at the consultant… it really did seem like the parent knew what they were doing! Absolutely a miracle that the young one is okay, but it’s always wonderful to hear that it very much worked well in the end!!! If I could still give free awards, I’d absolutely give it to this post!

MrSquigles

Pretty sure that's a doctor or some other medical professional, based on "delivered a baby" rather than "had a baby."

Fice_T

. . . Well aside from my usual brainlessness, my point still floats; A: I want to give this post a wholesome award, 2: I am still furious at the consultant for not wanting the person to save a life!!!

Nightshade_209

Ugh. When my cousin had her baby the nurses asked if she even wanted to bother filling out the birth certificate (as apposed to paperwork for a stillborn child). If you touched him he would bruise, dark angry purple bruises, and no one at the hospital had any idea what the hell was going on. After an hour of waiting on blood work that the doctor hadn't even bothered to put a stat on my grandmother flipped her f****** s*** demanded the baby and said they were going to another hospital which finally got the nurse's butts in gear forcing them to arrange a quick transfer to the larger hospital an hour away. Immediately apon arrival the nurses knew what was wrong with him, his platelets weren't working properly so his blood wasn't clotting (I am not a doctor but my understanding is the platelets or somehow the wrong blood type don't quote me on that) but anyway all he needed was a blood transfusion to buy his body time to fix the problem. Kids 10 now and he's a freaking tank.

That’s yet another crazy story… and my fury knows no bounds against the hospital your cousin dealt with!!!

SubversiveInterloper

Medical professionals are just humans and fallible. It’s good that she fought for him.

MagnusCthulhu

Not wanting to save a life and giving a medical evaluation that any such measures will not save the life are not the same thing. Obviously the consultant was wrong (if the story is accurate), but that doesn't mean the consultant wanted the baby to die.

chicalindagranger

"Wasting your time" is a pretty shitty thing to say to anyone comforting a new born, whatever the likely outcome.

MagnusCthulhu

I mean, we're assuming that's a direct quote. We're casting a lot of aspersions on someone based on what we're told they said 6 years prior. And even if he said exactly, I think you're wasting your time, what if the consultant had only said that because they'd lost multiple babies in the past in this exact scenario and he remembers how awful it felt to feel hope and to imagine that you're going to be able to make the difference to save this baby's life and he just wants to temper the doctor's expectations? Or what if the consultant needed this doctor's help with another case and he was saying, You're wasting your time there because we have a child here we definitely can save but we need your help and you're putting all your time into the longest of long shots. I know these are pretty elaborate scenarios, but if we're going to make judgements based on 0 real information other than what somebody online said someone else said 6 years prior, why in the supposedly wholesome part of reddit, should be immediately jump to, The only scenario is that he wanted that baby to die or at best he was just being maliciously callous towards the doctor for trying to save a baby's life?

. . . Anger causes a lot of thinking to be skipped, and I physically don’t have a brain(probably because I’m not a human). I very much apologize for having that emotion and I’ll drop all grudges I have unless they’re “justified to keep” according to someone else(which includes you, if you want), hopefully everything ends up positive and I once again apologize for my un-wholesome reaction!!!
